The Official PlayStation Vita Thread - 11/4: FW 3.00 Coming Just in Time for the PS4 Launch!
The fact that one one is saying anything at all about it, the delay, and the current track record for Silent Hill games makes it seem like a disaster waiting to happen.
Well, I was extremely skeptical about this game initially as well. It sounded to me like they had taken a different game and slapped a Silent Hill coat of paint on it.

That might still be the case, but my interest jumped up quite a few notches when I heard who was developing it. WayForward is developing this game, and I freaking love WayForward. They've made so many great games over the past six-seven years that I pretty much give them a free pass at this point. It's also worth noting that WayForward has a stellar track record for taking other peoples' IP and working wonders with it. They've done it with A Boy and His Blob, Contra, Double Dragon, and Bloodrayne. I don't see any reason why they can't do the same with Silent Hill.

Now that I have a Vita, I'm seriously considering picking up Book of Memories.

Rainbow Moon has been announced for Vita:
Role-playing on the go! Today, eastasiasoft—the Hong Kong–based developer and publisher of interactive entertainment—and developer SideQuest Studios announced that their recently released role-playing hit Rainbow Moon is heading to the PlayStation®Vita system in 2013.

“We've been asked this question many times, so I'm very happy to finally announce that we will bring Rainbow Moon to the PS®Vita,” said Marcus Pukropski, CEO of SideQuest Studios. “All the feedback that we have received for Rainbow Moon during the last few months has been tremendous, and I hope that today's announcement will make a lot of PS®Vita owners and Rainbow Moon fans happy.”

Oh Yeah, I don't either anymore.
^ THIS!

Also, when browsing the things I've purchased on PSN, STOP SHOWING ME STUFF I CAN'T DOWNLOAD like my PS3 games, themes, etc. I also want to be able to sort by content type (Vita games, PSP games, PS1 games, Minis) so I can quickly find the game I'm looking for.

The current PSN UI for finding purchased content is beyond stupid and shows a massive laziness and disregard for the user experience. Obviously nobody at Sony working on this stuff actually uses any of it themselves.
I agree, its lazy to say the least. Why the flying dunkin donut can't they add a freaking "sort by" button at the very least in my downloads list? Or....HOLY CRAP write this down, its golden....A FREAKING SEARCH FUNCTION!

It looks like the Vita PS Store is starting to include screenshots on game pages, which show up below the ratings and ESRB info and are clickable to see bigger pictures.

Just played through the Silent Hill demo.

You know, it isn't half bad. In fact, It's kind of good. Seems like a kooky dungeon crawler that is good in small doses. Definitely try it out before you knock it. I think I'll be picking this up at release, burn up some GS credit.

Got emails about the release dates and prices of Dokuro and Orgarhythm:
GungHo Online Entertainment America , a multiplatform publisher for the international gaming community, today confirmed that the company’s first title, Dokuro, will be released as a digital PlayStation®Vita system download on the PlayStation®Network on October 16. A creative blend of quirky puzzle and platform gameplay, Dokuro is a unique action puzzle game that utilizes both front and back touch panels to allow players to transform back and forth between character forms to utilize various skills and abilities, as well as manipulate the environment around them.

Players will take control of Dokuro, a stoic and diminutive skeleton who serves as a minion in the Dark Lord’s army. After witnessing his master’s kidnapping of a helpless Princess for a forced marriage, Dokuro resolves to free the Princess from the Dark Lord’s treacherous, monster-infested castle. Though invisible to her in his normal form and somewhat limited in his abilities, Dokuro finds a mystical blue potion that contains the formula to transform him into a dashing hero with enhanced physical prowess.

Dokuro must be aware of the Princess’s every step as she will continue to walk forward on her escape from the castle, until she encounters an obstacle she cannot overcome on her own. In order to facilitate her escape, Dokuro must use his skeletal form to stalk about in the shadows and quickly double jump from platform to platform. When the battle gets hairy, Dokuro can drink his formula and battle the armies of darkness with his saber in hero form. Players will escort the princess through the various traps and dangers of the Dark Lord’s castle, confronting sinister forces as they jump, run and battle their way through approximately 150 levels of increasing complexity and difficulty.

Developed in Japan by GungHo Online Entertainment, Inc, Dokuro will be released by GungHo Online Entertainment America on October 16 for $19.99 in North America as a digital download on the PlayStation®Network exclusively for the PlayStation®Vita system. GungHo Online Entertainment America will also be releasing Dokuro in Europe this winter.
XSEED Games, an independent-minded publisher, today announced that the upcoming music and real-time strategy rhythm game, Orgarhythm, will be released on October 23rd in North America on the PlayStation®Network as a digital download for the PlayStation®Vita handheld entertainment system, for a retail price of $29.99. Orgarhythm was developed in Japan by ACQUIRE in conjunction with Neilo, the new studio founded by Takashi Hirai who is best known for his past work on Space Channel 5 and Rez.

In Orgarhythm, rhythm and sound act as the user interface, allowing players to control their armies and protect their god through rhythmic interaction with on-screen prompts. The result is a truly hypnotic mobile gaming experience unlike any other. Playing as the God of Light, players will battle the forces of the God of Darkness by deploying elemental soldiers for rhythm-based attacks synced to a hypnotic mix of rock, club and tribal music.

In the game, rhythm is a weapon and different attacks occur on different beats, making the game’s catchy soundtrack dynamic to user input. Each unit type is based on one of the three elements of Earth, Water and Fire, and each elemental troop has a “rock, paper, scissors” relationship between the opposing elements. With these dynamics in mind, players must choose how to effectively deploy their forces while keeping beat with the music. Players use three taps to choose the unit and attack type, then a swipe of the finger across the screen to choose position and formation. Using the same interface mechanic, players can also unleash their divine powers to boost attack, defense and healing, or slow down enemy troops. The game also includes both versus and co-op two-player modes via ad-hoc network play.

Additionally, XSEED Games and ACQUIRE hosted a fan music submission contest in September, which is now closed. Submissions are still being evaluated, and announcements will be made shortly.

XSEED Games will publish Orgarhythm exclusively on the PlayStation®Store on the PS®Vita in North America on October 23 for $29.99 – look for more updates in the coming weeks. The game is rated E10+ by the ESRB, and additional information can be found on the product site at www.orgarhythm.com

I just noticed that Motorstorm RC is now costing $9.99 and not showing up as purchased if you picked it up when it was free. I guess Scion's sponsorship was a limited time deal.

It ended in August and they uploaded new versions for the PS3 and Vita that now support Cross Buy support. If you bought the PS3 version at launch when it was on sale for PS+, they're not giving you the vanilla Vita version, as well.

So, I keep thinking about getting a Vita. How does everyone enjoy theirs? What games are you looking forward to? I have a number of PS1 games I'd enjoy having on it alread through PSN, a few cheap PSP games I never got around to playing, along with a few Vita games that are already out.

Someone local on Craigslist has a Vita for $200 w/ a 16GB memory card, Uncharted, and Rayman. I know it's a good deal but it's still a decent amount of money for me right now. Convince me, CAG - should I pull the trigger?

Assassin's Creed III: Liberation, Persona 4: The Golden, NFS: Most Wanted, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, COD: Black Ops Declassified...

And Sony says they have a fair number more that haven't been announced yet. Rumor also has it that the God of War may be coming to the Vita next year.

I'm really looking forward to littlebigplanet karting. The ps3 beta was loads of fun. It seems like a fun game to kick on when i'm watching TV.

Hi,

I have a question about downloading games onto the Vita:

Let's say I have a US PSN account on my Vita, but what if I download something from the UK PSN using the PS3? Can I transfer the downloaded "bubble" to the Vita, and play the content from the UK store on my US account?

Thanks!

Nope. At least not in the direct way since I don't keep track of the multi-memory card tricks. You need to buy stuff from the same region that is activated on your Vita.

3 games + the system and memory card for $200 is a fair price. You'll want to upgrade the card to at least an 8GB at some point, but starting out, that's a good deal.

I just got a Vita for $200 with a 16GB card, Rayman, and Uncharted. I'd say go for it.

If you have a PS3 and already have digital PSP games, PS1 games, etc. then that expands the content you have access to already. Rayman is an absolute joy and feels right on a handheld - great to play a level or two and put it to sleep versus sitting down for an hour to play on a console.

You probably will want to upgrade the memory card eventually, but with the holidays coming up you might find a good deal on one. A lot of good games coming out and you'll have everything you need to start playing at $200 with that bundle from your coworker.

I picked up a copy of Silent Hill: Book of Memories today. I will give impressions later. I'm rather busy at the moment, and can't be certain of when I will have time to give it a spin.

FYI: Target will be having a B2G1 sales starting 10/29. Since PS3/360 games drop in price so quickly these days, I think I'm going to grab 3 PS Vita games. Thinking AC3: Liberation, NFS: Most Wanted, and LEGO LotR. Might grab Ragnarok Odyssey if Target stocks it by some miracle of a chance.

A video of ACIIIL
A bit of advice for Assassin’s Creed fans: get some sleep this weekend. Come Tuesday, you’ll get to immerse yourself in the Revolutionary mythology of Assassin’s Creed III both at home and on the go.

If you’ve been keeping up with our coverage of Aveline de Grandpre’s portable adventure, you’re likely already aware of Assassin’s Creed III Liberation’s open-world gameplay, its crossover with the PS3’s Assassin’s Creed III, and it’s PS Vita-specific features. But showing is better than telling, so have a look at some of Liberation’s (optional) touch controls in action, as AC3L Writer Richard Farreese tells us how the team adapted the series’ new control scheme to PS Vita. Spoiler: they didn’t have to change much.

You’re forgiven for gawking at that Crystal White PS Vita. I haven’t washed my hands since we recorded that footage. Assassin’s Creed III Liberation arrives this Tuesday alongside Assassin’s Creed III, both in stores and via PlayStation Network.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012/10/26/ratchet-clank-full-frontal-assault-out-1127-for-19-99/

Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault will be out on 11/27 for $19.99 on PSN with Cross Buy support for both versions. You can even grab the newly-announced retail PS3 version to also get the digital Vita version if you want to go that route, but there's no retail Vita version. It has a platinum if that is important to your purchase decision.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012...erview-under-the-hood-of-the-ps-vita-version/

An interview with the producer of the Vita version of NFS Most Wanted:
Next week sees the keenly anticipated release of Need for Speed Most Wanted, the latest release from Criterion Games – the legendary UK racing specialist behind the Burnout series and Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit, the phenomenal 2010 entry in EA’s long-running street racing franchise.

That the PlayStation 3 version is very, very good should come as no surprise, but somewhat more unexpected is the amount of care the studio has lavished on replicating the experience on PlayStation Vita. Producer Matt Webster and his team have squeezed almost the entire experience onto the handheld, and even found room for a little bit of extra content exclusive to the system.

We sat down with Matt earlier this week to find out exactly how Criterion has pulled it off.

PlayStation.Blog: What was your goal when you first started developing the PS Vita version of Most Wanted?

Matt Webster, Producer at Criterion Games:
It was to make the same game – that was the goal. As much as we possibly could, we wanted to deliver all the great things about the console version of the game: an open world, freedom, choice, variety, highly connected. All those principles looked like they were achievable on the machine, so that was what we set out to do.

PSB: What were the main challenges you met during development?

MW:
You just run across performance challenges. Some of those are fundamental, which you learn to overcome as development progresses, and others you have to make some compromises.

PSB: What kind of compromises are we talking about exactly?

MW:
It is exactly the same game [as the PlayStation 3 version] apart from traffic density and number of players online. But I think that the asynchronous play is actually going to be more important.

PSB: How exactly does that work?

MW:
So, if you play the single-player game, and then play muliplayer, any Speed Points you earn in SP also drive your MP progression, and that’s true when you play the game on PS Vita too. Anything you earn on PS Vita carries across to the console version. It’s a unified scoring system.

Everything you do in the game earns Speed Points. Speed Points determine your position on the Most Wanted list. Am I outscoring my friends; have I reached the necessary score threshold to take on one of the Most Wanted drivers in the solo game; what speed level am I at in MP; what have I unlocked, and so on. I can push up my Speed Point level on PS3 multiplayer when I’m mobile with PS Vita, and vice versa.

PSB: The easy option would have been to contract an external developer to work on the Vita version but you decided to keep it in-house. Why?

MW:
It was something we wanted to do. It looked like the machine was going to be capable of delivering what we wanted to do. And the way that we work is very iterative – build, play, change, build, play, change – that’s how we work. When you go external it generally only works when you’ve got a finished game, otherwise there are too many moving parts.

So, it looked like something we’d be able to do and we were going to be able to push ourselves in some new directions. It was difficult, but we’re not ones to shy away from a challenge.

PSB: Do you think a massive open world racing game like Most Wanted is a good fit for a portable gaming device?

MW: I do.
The game is about freedom and choice. We have a saying – ‘not playing the game is the game’. What that means is that not playing the authored experience that most games deliver for you actually is very important and a really significant part of the game.

The way that these devices are used – they’re picked up, they have some play, and they’re put down. It might be high frequency play, but not necessarily high amplitude, where I’m spending long sessions with it. Our game can work in either of those scenarios. I think the asynchronous part of it is going to be really powerful on that device – do something, have Autolog pick it up, and send it back.

I think it will turn out to be something that PS Vita owners didn’t realize was possible on that machine – it is quite a significant achievement to do an open world game to the level of quality that we’ve managed. And then to have something as highly connected as it is – that’s something fresh and new. I think it will find a really good home on PS Vita.

PSB: What kind of exclusive PS Vita content have you included?

MW:
There are some exclusive PS Vita races and events in there for players to discover. It’s another way for players to earn exclusive SP – it’s an extra reward for having the game on multiple devices and it allows us to do something specifically tuned to that device.

PSB: Have you used the PS Vita’s unique features in any way?

MW:
We’ll use the touch screen for changing music tracks and in some parts of the interface but the rest of it… you have to use those things where they serve a purpose, otherwise they’re just a gimmick. You run the risk of it not being taken seriously. We’ll absolutely use it when it makes sense to use it.

PSB: Presumably you’ll be supporting the PS3 version post launch with DLC. Will that also apply to the PS Vita version?

MW:
Well, we’ll clarify that when the time comes.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012...earth-defense-force-2017-portable-on-ps-vita/

Some new info on Earth Defense Force 2017 on Vita:
The Earth Defense Force is back, and I’m here to tell you what to expect when it lands on PS Vita this winter! Earth Defense Force 2017 (“EDF3” in Japan) launched in 2007 as a third-person shooter developed by Sandlot and published by D3Publisher.

In Earth Defense Force 2017 Portable for PS Vita, the core of the game (the 3D arcade action and the system features) remain the same as in EDF2017, but by adding many additional features the game feels completely transformed and remastered. These additions include an online co-op mode, new missions, enemies and weapons, and a new playable character in Pale Wing.

The story is set in the year 2017. The Ravagers — a vile alien race — are coming to Earth, and they have one thing on their minds: the complete destruction of mankind! In Earth Defense Force 2017, you are Earth’s last line of defense. You’ll be dropped into the shoes of a member of the Earth Defense Force. Your mission: stop the Ravagers from conquering Earth.

With the added online play, you can now play a co-op game with up to four players on your PS Vita, without giving up three quarters of your screen. New tactics and strategy are required when playing with friends, bringing a whole new experience to EDF2017 that I think players will love.

Every player can select their weapons, so the key to effective teamwork is to take advantage of each soldier’s attributes. There are also many new weapons that specialize in cooperative gameplay, including tools that assist and revive your fallen allies. You can chat with your friends in multiplayer, so it’s key to keep in contact and make a tactical battle plan. There is also a PvP multiplayer mode where you track your opponent on radar, then make the most of your weapons to go for the win.

You can also unlock Pale Wing, the flying female playable character, after certain conditions are met. Pale Wing did not exist in the world of EDF2017, but she came flying from EDF2 into EDF3 Portable to help the troops out against the new threat. This character requires you to play the game differently, with her flying ability and new gear, so be prepared! Pale Wing has her own set of gear, such as the rapier and laser rifle, adding even more variation to the game’s 150+ weapons. You can even have all four players play as Pale Wing in multiplayer to create a complete Pale Wing Unit.

Earth Defense Force 2017 Portable is packed with new features. I think fans will be most excited about being able to play online with their friends, as EDF has always been a game that players have enjoyed sharing with others. For those new to the EDF world, welcome! I think you will find an over-the-top action arcade experience that will keep you coming back to your PS Vita for more. We look forward to sharing more of the game with you in the future, as we prepare for a PS Vita-exclusive winter launch. Let us know if you’ve played EDF, and which new features you’re most looking forward to!

This is kind of a small thing, but did anyone notice PS Vita advertising/marketing (at least in the U.S.) now includes tag lines about "console gaming"? Check out the ACIII:L launch trailer below and watch the last few seconds:

The latest emails from PlayStation also have "Console Gaming in Your Hands" as a slogan for the Vita as the boilerplate.

Seems awesome! I'm getting myself a Vita this week just for P4G. I finished P4 a few weeks ago and have been wanting to play it again, but the extras in Golden have been making me hold out on another playthrough. The additional stuff in the beginning seems pretty cool. I'm mostly excited about the new dungeon and the ability to go out at night.

Oh, and since P4G isn't coming out for a few weeks, I'm trying to decide on what game to pick up for now. I'm debating between VLR, Disgaea 3, or Gravity Rush. Any input? :3

disgaea 3 is an incredible value for the vita, as it comes loaded with every piece of dlc from the ps3 version. it'll definitely hold you for those few weeks. haven't played the other 2, but those aren't really my type of game.

Damn straight it is. One of the only games I paid full price for and have I regrets. Only complaint is how the DLC trophies are part of your overall.

BTW to anyone, I need some help:

I had a launch Vita with a 32gb memory card. I just bought the white AC Vita. How do I transfer my data.... is it just as simple as slapping my old memory card in? Is anything saved to the internal memory (if any)?

Been playing NFS and really enjoying it. Funny, I was playing it while listening to the CAGCast while Cheapy was saying he can't imagine the Vita version being very good or worth playing, but its a really solid game. The environments at times have some really ugly, last-genish textures, but when you consider how massive the city is and that the cars look pretty nice, it doesn't really matter.
