If you still want 2.40 you can download it here:
http://games.internode.on.net/filelist.php?filedetails=18672

However Sony has pulled it and their official board says it's because of reports of bricked PS3s that won't turn on immediately after installing the update.

phew.
Are you serious? I got the update last night... The bricking part freaks me out... *turns on ps3* Mine did the exact same thing relentless the icons was just white.

I installed this at 2am last night and worked just fine for me, even played a few games. Thank god i didnt brick my trusty 60gb.

Any other games currently out other than super stardust supporting trophys.

I think the issue with themes are since there are new icons added, the previous theme wasn't sure what to do.

I don't like Kotaku much, but PS3 Fanboy posted it:
http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/07/02/has-2-40-been-removed-from-update-servers/

There was reports of a few had their console freeze when pressing the PS button to check a message. For the most part, there seemed to be a network problem this morning (I believe it since I had problems getting SSD HD to update). It seems like something happened to the update, which is why it has been pulled.

Oh course people would just call me Sony fanboy (Sony defender) over this, but I told people over and over again (not so much here as some other places), the last thing you want Sony to do is rush out in-game XMB. Because I wanted them to assure there wasn't a problem (it more so seems like a problem with the network). If those who kept complaining they wanted them to rush the update, had their consoles bricked or whatnot, I guarantee they'd be more upset over that then no update at all. So far on my end, things seem okay.

I was going to wait to download 2.4, but I'm glad I got it when I did.

Wow. That's bad news if a major update is bricking systems. I'm also glad I was able to fend off my fiance from my PS3 (watching a DVD) to get the update.

Hopefully they'll iron this problem out soon.
Hell yeah, phew.

I'd be fucking pissed if my brand new PS3 bricked because of the update. Everything is working fine for me so far.
As long as you got the update downloaded and installed, you are okay. There appears to be a network issue going on where it seems that people aren't getting their download complete (meaning, part of the update is missing), and when it tries to find the update, nothing happens (because it's not the complete file).

From what I found out, if anyone has issues, there seems to maybe be some fixes. Some tried removing their HDD (like review the blew screw to pull it out), then put it back in, and the PS3 will ask you to format the HDD. I need to look more into it, but I could have sworn I heard it (only issue is game saves will be erased if you never backed them up, which I try to do often).

I wonder just how many people are having these issues and what hard drives are they using?

Anyone here use a different hard drive and updated just fine?

I thought my PS3 was bricked when I updated. It said the correct hard drive couldn't be found. I turned off my system, then turned it back on, and it was fine.

EDIT: WOW! IT GOT PULLED! Weird.

I am glad I heard about the bricking thing after I installed it or I would have been to scared to download it. Phew my 20 gig PS3 is safe.

Hmmm, I guess I have to wait now.....I had no time to download the upload today until now :(

Not sure if I want to download the random site one also. I through Sony was making people downgrade back to 2.36
new feature nobodys said anything about unless it was in an old FW:

go to time zone change and it gives you a global view.
Yep, I think it was in 2.20 or somewhere around there.

Despite all my bitching I was still looking forward to trying this out. This is what I get for going to work. I need to be independently wealthy so I can be home during the daytime.

Well I don't gameshare. So this situation's different. Still, that could explain why SSHD doesn't show up as a full game bought for me under the PS Store.

Odd. I updated my 40 as I did homework in my bedroom and then I finally fired up my 60 in the main room and it said I had the most current version. I wonder when the update will come down.

I don't think I have an immediate use for it anyway.

I am going to download Super Stardust HD and get all the trophies =), I am bringing my dirty achievement whore ways to the PS3!

I'm glad I worked the midnight shift , I downloaded it in the morning with no problems .

My 60 GB survived , even with a custom theme .

Anyone else feel that this is approx. the Sony equivilant of Live breaking over the holidays ?

I know it didn't effect everyone but , the almost 3 year wait , and then this ?

I'm sure you guys will take Sony's side but I'm just curious .

I wonder how long it will take to fix [v 2.41] .

Awesome. The moment every PS3 owner has been waiting for and it gets freaking pulled (and is also entirely underwhelming...but that's beside the point.)

I was not waiting for it, nothing in it is anything special to me.

I only just got my PS3 on saturday, installed the new firmware without any problems. I would have been beyond pissed if I had it for less then a week before it died.

The download link on the PS3 works again, but I'm all but sure it's the old 2.36 update. Oh well, better safe than possibly bricked.

LOL at all the people over at GameFaqs and such complaining that people were lying and saying it was bricking their PS3s because their Xbox fanboys. And then, Sony pulled it, and its shhh....

Bummer its not available for me now when I got home. Curious to see the new crap even though I have never played a single game on my PS3.

Hmmm so it was bricking PS3's eh?

Thankfully I've never experienced any problems with my 60GB that everyone has at one time reported, except for the Assassins Creed freezes.

Where's that tough cookie reward at? :D

I had my PS3 download the update last night...I left it on all day and just updated to 2.4 a couple hours ago.

So far so good on my 60GB launch unit. I downloaded Stardust HD and I'm about to embark on my journey to become a Trophy Whore.

Oh damn, CheapyD forgot to fix one bug when updating to CAG2.0.

I got the message that said something along the lines of "Incorrect hard drive", but it was fine after I restarted the system. I think to the uninformed, it may have appeared that the update had bricked their PS3, when in fact it was nothing.

One of my USB ports started acting funny after the update. I have to replug in whatever USB device (keyboard, USB mic) on one USB port. All the other ports work alright though. I can't complain, but since I use a keyboard, eyetoy, usb hookup for my sixaxis, and a mic... I had to pass through my headset through my keyboard for the time being.

My 60gb has worked fine with the update. Downloaded it last night and played some Warhawk, yesterday. Played some more today. Everything worked fine.
I don't want to have to redownload it later on but I don't know how different the redo will be or if the system wouldn't recognize the new 2.4 if I have the old 2.4. Dang, hopefully it's up again by the end of the week.

my 60gb ps3 worked fine with the update, however my ps3 crashed twice while playing MGS4. i was just playing and it turned black, thought it bricked or something. flicked the power switch and waited 10 mins then turned it back on and it worked.
you got custom soundtracks in GT5 Prologue, I played that game all night, couldn't get any custom soundtrack. Tell me how you did it, so I can stop bitching.
Seems I was mistaken. :error:. So am I correct when I say that as of now, not one game that previously did NOT support custom music before 2.4, supports it now?
