The Official PSP Pre-Order Information Thread

I am thinking if we hold out a while the bottom will fall out and the price drops will occur because sony and sanddisk will be selling a ton more of them. I bought a 512 mb secure digital card a year ago for $100 after weeks of searching for the absolute best deal. Now not quite a year later they can be had for $30 if you look hard.

PC Connection is now selling the value pack for $269.99. At this point, it doesn't look like it's possible to purchase just the value pack online at the MSRP price ($249.99).

Yeah I preordered on PCconnection and e-mailed them. They said they expected to ship out on the 31'st. so if they dont ship by the 24th i'm just gonna cancel my order.

I pre-ordered my PSP this weekend at Gamerush (Kalamazoo). They told me they only had a total of 5 preorders available. I was the fourth to pre-order. They required a $50 deposit.

Perhaps Buy.com will presell PSPs at the MSRP, so far they are just selling the games. They are probably the only major outfit that might sell it without inflating the base price, subjecting you to local sales taxes, forcing you to buy bundles, or gouging you on expensive shipping costs.

I've had some bad experiences with buy.com in the past however. They are very bad about canceling orders and even once an order never got to me because they used a cheaper carrier to ship. The funny thing is the box the item that was supposed to get to me the first time around arrived with the replacement. It was an identical box with no product and was beaten up....

Still better than ecost.com tho.

From my online buying experiences; I think Ecost, Buy.com, Dell.com, PC Connection all use the same distribution warehouses when shipping out items. Where they ship from depends on availability and where you live. For instance I live in Georgia and I gotten orders from Ecost, Buy.com, and Dell.com from the same Memphis address.

I think the only difference between the online companies are their pricing policies and level of customer service.

Hmmm, well I know that Ecost, Pcmall and Macmall are the same company. PC connection's customer service has been rather good so far.

It would be strange if they use the same warehouse, maybe that's like a pickup point for items shipped. For the Belkin Tunebase FM, It actually was shipped from belkin directly which was strange.

Dell stuff always seems to come the quikest out of those vendors.

I called a bunch of EB's, GameStops, Game Crazys, Game Rushes...all in my area (SoCal) have stopped taking pre-orders completly, or if I do preorder, will be in the 2nd shipment. So if you want a PSP at launch, and didn't pre-order, best bet would be to wait outside Bestbuy/Target/Walmart.

However, they still are taking pre-orders for games, which shouldn't be too tough to get.

So I just preordered a PSP today at the local EB. I had initially went in to trade in my GBA + 4 Games to get the DS for 100, but had 2nd thoughts and used the credit as a deposit instead. Are only the first wave of PSPs going to come w/ the Spider-Man UMD? First 1million, right?

Good News: Amazon/Toys R US has the PSP back for preorder.

Bad News: Now they are forcing you to buy a bundle with 5 preselected games.

Worse News: Total cost (before local sales tax and shipping): $449.99

This is just wrong especialy since just a few weeks ago they were preordering just the value pack, and then decided to cancel them all. Now we know why!

Expensive Ass Link
Anyone think Circuit City, Comp USA, or Target Will have them on launch day or for Preorder in Store?
I was just at my local CC today. They had a few empty boxes of the games and the hardware up for display. I have my system reserved at Gamestop already, so I didn't really give it much of a look. So, I guess you might be able to reserve it there.

I don't think so, I think you have to return the whole thing. I'm just getting twisted metal with it since that game looks pretty sweet. I'll just pick up the rest of the games with my BB gift card heh.

I just hope they ship on release date. Oh yeah. You can also use fatcash to get 3% back and I used coupn"KBSH" to get 5 dollars off. Hopefully it counts, thouh it doesnt show in cart.

Anyone know if TRU's are doing any kind of pre-orders yet? I got my PS2 from them and that worked out well. I'm pretty nervous about my "second shipment" EB pre-order and want to try to get my hands on a PSP Launch day. I plan to hit the other retail shops around but it would be nice to know I can get one.

No pre-orders at any TRU's in my area for games or systems. And two of the three I checked said they might not get any systems at launch only games.

Neither did I. I did get an e-mailwith $70 in RZ certificates though.

I don't believe Best Buy offers in-store pick up on pre-orders.

Hmmm.... did they run out of preorders. All I see is this

"Your chance to pre-order the PSP comes on March 10!

The special Reward Zone program PSP Pre-Order offer is not yet available. Please check back sometime after 10 a.m. (CT) on Thursday, March 10 for your chance to pre-order the eye-popping new portable.

For information on how to become a Reward Zone program member — and to participate in offers like this in the future — visit a Best Buy store near you."

NM... stupid roomate with reward zone is sleeping so I can't wake him up to preorder ugh....... I wish I signed on that promo thing oh well.

I just placed my BB order via my RW link. This is the email I got:

Status: Order in process of being fulfilled. Estimated arrival date: 03/16/2005 - 03/21/2005.

So we'll see I suppose...

Just a heads up folks!

I received a call from Gamerush today and was told that they are still taking preorders from 5 PSP to 15. Hurry because they won't last long! This was from a memo they received this morning from corporate office.

I give up on preordering. I'm just gonna get one at Target in the morning since they open at 8am. That way I won't have to skip any work. Then during lunch i'm gonna goto Best buy, pick up any games I didnt get at target with my gift card and get another PSP, and return it to Target. That way I can use up all my giftcard heh.

I think that Best Buy online preorder was executed poorly. I am a charter member of the RZ program and I didn't receive that preorder email. From what I saw it lasted less than three hours before it was cut off (assuming you could get through), so the allocation for this event must have been quite small.

I'm avoiding purchasing from B&M stores because of the hassle and sales tax (about $17.50 where I live). If you didn't preorder with PC Connection when they were charging $249.99, IMO the best bet if you still want to preorder is with kbtoys.com. Assuming you like one of the games they are bundling with their PSP packages; you are not paying any surcharges, shipping costs are realitively low ($5.66 ground), and no sales tax for most states. Also if you change your mind or have a problem with you PSP, you can return it to a KB B&M for a refund/exchange.

You may need to check your account settings and see if you opted out of the marketing e-mails. If you did that, you would not have recieved the offer (it has the standard disclaimer for unsubscribing from the e-mail list in it, so it would apply).

As for how many people got in, I have no clue on how it worked. I managed to get in before they all sold out. There are probably a lot of RZ members out there by now - but still, they should have put in a limited quantity disclaimer or something.
Draccius:

Is the opt-in/out on the RZ website or the Best Buy website? I can't seem to find it on either site.
The opt in/out is on the main Best Buy website under your account. Once you sign in there is communication option under "my account" that you can sign up specifically for incentives (coupons, rebates, etc.). That is the only option my account has selected and I recieved the offer.

The RZ offer never actually asked for the RZ number at BB's main site, so I am assuming the RZ account has to be linked (otherwise anyone with the RZ link could have preordered yesterday).

Is circuit city doing any kind of pre-orders?

I think I'm gonna go do some running tonight and see what I can come up with. Probably hit FYE, TRU & Circuit city at least, just to see if there's any info or PO's available.
-G

Naw Reward zone is jacked. My roomate has all his settins right and he NEVER gets any of the e-mails or promotions. However Best buy keeps on sending me coupons but not him. poor fella he's so pissed lol. I really should have signed up for RZ when they offered a 10 dollar gift card when you did. I would have used it on the psp anyway and I wouldve gotten points.

Looks like BB will be open in the morning so I don't have to miss work :)

"But that doesn't necessarily mean you'll be without a PSP come launch day. On Thursday, March 24, Best Buy stores around the country will open their video game departments at 8:01 a.m. to sell the PSP. Customers will have the opportunity to pick up what is sure to be one of the hottest gaming products of 2005, Sony's PSP, the revolutionary, all-entertainment handheld, along with games and accessories."

So now I can not miss work and get my PSP with my gift card... sweet :D
