We've had a few random threads on here about the game, so I thought I'd start an official one since the game is about a week out.

I have to say, I've been back and forth on this game, but all signs point to us finally having a good 3D Sonic game. I just replayed Sonic Rush and enjoyed it much more than I did the first tiem around when I played it last year. I never really gave the Sonic Advance games much of a chance so I'm playing through them as well in anticipation of Secret Rings, as well as the Adventures, to be able to fairly judge how the Wii game "feels."

Offical Nintendo Magazine (UK) has a Q&A up about it. They've never been known for their accuracy, but it over-all sounds very positive (with just enough negativity to make me belive they're not in Sega's pocket). Check that out here: http://forum.officialnintendomagazine.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=57096

For usability's sake, I'm mirroring some videos. They're at http://www.daroga.org/SonicWii/

I'm hesitant to get too excited, but as I was a Genesis owner and not a SNES owner back in the day, Sonic has always had a special place in my heart. Some of that has even survived, despite the whoring and destruction of the franchise that Sega has seen fit to do lately. In the end, I'm really looking forward to it, but glad I have a $10 Best Buy coupon to couple with a BB gift card to get the game. :)

Read Daroga's post...

No seriously he said exactly what I would of said (minus some things like the videos) amost exactly and yes even the BB gift card (which I actually have from buying a router for my Wii and plan to use on sonic, lol) and not owning a SNES.

I can't decide whether or not I want to get this game. The inclusion of all those party games is an excellent bonus though.
I can't decide whether or not I want to get this game. I've never been one for the Mario Party / Sonic Shuffle type of minigames, anyway, but I'm glad to see them as a tackon to a solid single player Wii game rather than being the meat of the game themselves.

But, hey, for "free"? Sure, whatever. Sonic Minigames, Wii voting channels, I'm not too picky. ;)

Falls into the same category as pretty much every Wii game thus far besides Zelda...will check it out when it hits $20 or maybe give it a rental.

Never been a huge sonic fan, the 3D games after the first Adventure all sucked (and even the first one was mediocre). On top of that the game looks like it will be a pretty short, arcadey game with little replay value.

So in sum, a far cry from a $50 purchase for me. But to be fair I'm not willing to pay more than $20 for much of anything. Just stuff like Mario, Metroid, Halo, that I can be pretty sure will be a personally 9.0-10.0 game.
I'm going to let you guys be the guinnea pig on this one ;-)
I'll be sure to post impression as soon as I get my hands on it. I just about chucked my Wavebird out the window at a "Find the Emerald!" level in SA2 this afternoon, so I think I've gotten a good feel for how good and bad the Adventure games are. ;)

If I hadn't been a huge Sonic nut back in the day or if this bore any resemblace to the previous 3D Sonic games I'd be in exactly the same boat. I'm going to brave this one out and hope I don't get burned. But my newly-rediscovered disgust for many elements in the Adventure games, my newly-rediscovered love of a lot of elements in Sonic Rush and the Genesis games, and the fact that my purchase will be made with gift cards, should hopefully ensure that I, with other CAGs, can give an honest, balanced take on it when it hits, rather than feeling the need to justify a purchase.

Just a note, all the videos I've gathered in the last few days are up. I'm redownloading the Trailer from a few days ago that I somehow don't have anymore to put up. They're all at: http://www.daroga.org/SonicWii/

I thought the 3D sonic games were excellent. I'm really looking forward to this as well. I think Sega will finally be doing Sonic some justice.
When does this come out again?
Next week, 2/20 or 2/21 depending on when a particular store gets stock I guess.

I hope this turns out well, Sonic deserves some good games.

One thing that irks me is the way Sonic loses his rings in those videos. They seem to spray out in one direction and then disappear.

Thanks! I usually trust user reviews over magazine/web pages.

I've got my fingers crossed for this one. It looks good, but I'm not completely sold yet. Waiting for impressions and reviews.

I have never bought a Sonic game and only played the first one briefly and I must say this game looks fun. Right now I'm definitely picking it up, but it worries me that it comes out in 5 days and there is nary a single review on the net. What's up with that?

THIS is why Nintendo will never listen to anyone suggesting that voice acting should be included heavily in sequels to their classic franchises.

Sonic's voice is horrid or at least the diaglouge was lending itself to bad inflection.

EDIT: It seems Sonic's voice is the same guy who does the Sonic X cartoon, so the dialogue is to blame, but it stll seems "out of place" in terms of editing in the middle of the game.

Coming to PS2 4-20.

1. Does my post have any bearing on anything in the thread I'm viewing?
2. Am I actually able to come up with a coherent thought?
3. With a coherent thought, am I able to actually string two or more together?

Your post fails these 3 criteria. Thread crapping is not appreciated.

On topic, IGN's new trailers are going up on my mirror directory.

I preordered from Amazon for $45. Same as a GGC but no tax/free shipping. I think my expectations for this are pretty low, so it will probably end up being very awesome. If not, I will probably kick myself for early adopting. Sigh, I don't know why I put up with you, stupid hedgehog! :)

I'm buying into the hype on this one. I'll be happy to take one for the team and give some early impressions when it hits stores.

Let me say this though: if this game ends up sucking, I'll prolly never buy another sonic game unless it's $5 or less.
GoNintendo.com has early impressions of the game here.

So far, so good.
Very true. I guess the 20th embargo would explain the lack of reviews yet. I wonder why though.
Has anyone seen even one review on this game yet?
Checked gamerankings and nothing. I want to know if this game is fucking good, but well we will have to wait.

Embargo until the day it comes out? Wow. That's not good. The above article makes it sound good, but hard to tell since it really isn't a review, but more of a breakdown of what's going on in the first level.

Yeah, having an embargo until release date in never a good sign.

If its a game they think will get good reviews, they want the reviews out first to build up hype.

Embargos are used to keep shitty reviews from killing sells.

Yeah that is what is making mad you can't trust Sonic games as always quality so you just have to wait. I'm really pulling for this game to be good though b/c my wii is a dust collector at the moment.

Wow--I'm glad I didn't preorder this game as I had wanted to do for the last month or so.

An embargo on reviews usually points to bad reviews.

Just watched today's 1up show and they have a segment on Sonic that's very review-esque (it starts at 21:30 and ends around 29:50, if you just want to see that part).

Sounds like they really liked the regular levels, but had mixed feelings about the missions you do (ie, going through the stage without dying, ending the stage with zero rings, etc.). Overall, they felt that although the game doesn't live up to their hype, it's a solid platformer and the best 3d Sonic to date.

Also, looks like the multiplayer is pretty much garbage.

Watching the 1UP show pretty much solidifies was I was thinking (hoping) would be true. It's not the greatest game ever made--but it's at least fun. The mission thing sounds a bit wonky, but 4/10 seems like you'll be able to find something you enjoy in each one.

I'm guessing an average of around 82-85%, which for a 3D Sonic game, might as well be 99%.

I think his references to weed help show us why us that is. Someone might be smoking a little too much.

Mark Bozon's blog on IGN says it's good, but flawed. He won't elaborate, but sounds like that's gonna be the consensus. Ah well, still a good rental with the free GameCrazy coupons I got for buying a $15 GameBoy Micro last August.

I just saw it and it's convinced to not touch this game anytime in the near future. Maybe in the fall when this will have dropped will I pick this up, but not touching it until then. It seems like a solid 7-7.4 to me.

I disagree. It's pretty standard operating procedure in game journalism -- though I have the fact sheet in front of me right now and see no mention of embargo.

I just played it for review on Yahoo this weekend (retail, boxed copy). Not a bad little game. Fast, fun, and the first platformer that controls almost like a race game. RPG elements are neat, the story blows, and the camera perspective is as it should be. If you like Mario Party (I don't), you'll dig on the multiplayer Party mode.

I preordered this game through some random website for I think $18 a while back. Most peoples orders were canceled. I never received a cancelation from them, so I have no clue. Does anyone remember that website?

I never got a cancellation either, but I'm pretty sure it' dead.

So I wonder if this game will be worth $30? I have that $10 coupon at BB + a $10 giftcard...Hmm...that coupon expires at the end of the month so I have to use it towards something!

Meh, that's faulty logic and it's still $50 more or less since you could put the coupon and gift card toward any other $50 game that may be better than Sonic.

I'd wait for the reviews to come out (as I disagree that embargoes aren't usually a forebearer of a shitty game, movie, album etc.--again if its quality they want the hype from early positive reviews).

For what it's worth, I don't know how reliable "Game on" is, hope this has not been posted already.
