The Official Super Paper Mario thread | Got what it takes to save the worlds?

Yeah... I might go for the card collecting... since I have at least 1/2 the collection right now.

fuck recipe collecting though, I was going to attempt it until
I found out that there were more recipes in Flopside as well. :bomb:

I'd card and recipe collect, but I don't have time to run around and find cards and recipe things in all the worlds.

Oh well.

Just finished 8-1. The end of World 7 and 8-1 have been wonderful- really making me love this story. Off to try 8-2.

Beat the game.

The lack of Tippi is quite disappointing. You get quite attached to her through the story. In fact, the whole ending is sort of sad.

I finally got this game (actually funny story I got it at a Comp USA while at a programming contest, lol), anywho I was originally weary about buying it but now even just after getting through act 1, I am loving it. The thing that really makes this game awesome for me, is well the puzzles. I really like the challenge of the puzzles and it feels like a old school game. Unlike the previous mario outings of here get to finish this is more here solve this puzzle and use this special form to get to finish. I love how the 3d has been made for the whole game not just certain points, and I am just loving it. It just brings back the old school fun of a 2D classic for me.

Now I do hate 10,000 lines of text and the wait times between the damn elevators, but other than that I love it. The levels are just huge and I love it. Can't wait to play more.

Check out 3-4 again.

I found the end of Chapter 7 to be pretty sad.

Yeah, I know, I already picked up Tiptron. But... it's just not the same! The emotion of Tippi when she realized who Bleck was was so great. And now they're gone. I dunno. I loved how Bleck turned out to really be a good guy, in the end.

And yeah, end of 7 was definitely quite sad. A turn I didn't see coming. All in all I really enjoyed all the text... The only text I whizzed by without reading was the Sammer Men's text in Chapter 6. It was a great story, IMO.

A lot of people seem to be complaining about the text, it's really not that bad. The same complaint was lodged at Hotel Dusk, which is another terrific game.
But I expected that from Hotel Dusk, not from a Mario platformer.
...

You haven't played Thousand Year Door have you? Super Paper Mario is a platoformer with RPG themes. Hence the fact that it has a story... like all the other Paper Mario games...

Just got the final Heart and am getting ready to beat the game. It's the best game on the Wii, but Thousand Year Door was definitely the more inspired adventure. Graphically, Thousand Year Door was better than Super Paper Mario. The adventures, between Rawk Hawk, train rides, and pirates, were more varied and the characters were more interesting. Hearing Luigi's misadventures rate comparably to your own were hilarious.

Super Paper Mario feels more vapid on the whole. It doesn't mean I'm not enjoying it, but Thousand Year Door was definitely deeper.

Yes, I played (and finished) Thousand Year Door. I loved it, and loved the text and deep story line. All I am saying is that I think SPM had more "pointless" text, especially since it was supposed to be RPG-lite. I still liked the game (just finished it yesterday), but I was commenting that there was more text than I expected since it was billed as more of a platformer than TYD.

I hate the reading part... i brought the GC's Paper Mario and didn't really play it all. Mario type of RPG is not my type, really... However, before i brought Wii's Paper Mario, i did my research. I was told there are some texts, but the playing part is very "Mario" like. After getting over the annoying dialogues, boy, the game is pretty slick! 2D to 3D got me... i couldn't figure out one of the puzzle (the bridge thing), until my kid told me to do 3D (he doesn't like controlling the game, a bit difficult for him, but he's pretty good telling me what to do).

Overall, it's well worth the $38 i paid (new, i wish i can locate a used copy, but it's too new). I don't think it worth $50... hell, all Wii games should start with $45 price tag!

Oh lastly, the thing i hate in Wii's Paper Mario is the annoying choice option. I don't see the point of it at all! I selected bunch of "NOs" in the beginning of the game and guess what? GAME OVER... I was like, what's the point of the questions beside some jokes (like soap instead of hope)? They should not force a GAME OVER for various choices, the whole point of choices is to define what kind of gamer are you, i.e. you like to be told what to do, you're a good doer, you're a rebel etc...

Worse of all, you can't skip the story once you GAME OVER and restart the game (another annoying five minutes of replay if you're not really into the texts). Yeah, i can avoid that if i select "YES sir, i will save the world." but being a curious gamer, i almost always anal about what happens if i select this and that?

Fortunately, once you start chapter 1-1, it's quite good... P.S. after the inital GAMER OVER experience, i select the "YES sir, i will pay 10,000 coins" option (i really want to select the "NO *ucking way" option, but i don't wanna start the game again).

Hahahahahahaha. You told Merlin you didn't want to save the world. What did you expect to happen? For him to get on his knees and start begging you? Technically though, you got the fast ending in the game. ;)

Oh and play Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door. Once you get past the initial level, it becomes quite entertaining especially in the Bowser, Peach, and Luigi level.
Just beat
Flipside Pit
. That was a bitch.

for Flopside Pit
.
Yes. Yes you do.
Flipside I breezed through. Flopside kicked my ass. BTW, you dont get the guy selling stuff until room 50. He sells Ultra shroom for 300, and the regenerating life thingy for 30. Bring some of your own food is what i'm saying.

^_____^

yeap, i just beat the game in 10 minutes ;)

i was expecting something similar in Phenix Wright DS games... you know, you're giving choices and free to go about, but ultimately, the game kinda "humor" around your decision and move on with the game.

Oh, i think it's Merlon, not Merlin... At first i thought it was Melon (hahahaha).

Oh, and now that im just doing the end of game stuff
What the hell do you do with the Large Music Stone and the Block that "has something on it"?

:whistle2:s

This is a platformer.

Unless, of course, your grammar is so terrible I'm not comprehending what you're trying to say.

No, seriously, i'm not offended, but i would like to know what i did wrong, i.e. please correct my grammar mistakes. Hey, if i get to learn proper English, why not? I'm all in for learning something new everyday :)

Please fix my mistakes, thanks in advance :)

What i meant to say is, Wii's Paper Mario gives you choices, and you can end up with GAME OVER if you make some bad choices. Unlike the Phoenix Wright Attorney games (DS), where you don't end up with GAME OVER when you make obvious bad choices.

Oh, I see what you mean now. I didn't mean to come off as such a condescending asshole when I posted, sorry about that. Just a miscommunication with some mixed up "your"s. ;)

Well just beat the game at 18 hours exactly and haven't touched the "End Game+" save file yet. Great game, I would give it a high 8.8/8.9 just shy of a 9. My only two real complaints were the bosses were way too easy and you could only flip as Mario. I know there is room for improvement that could have been made, but I can't quite mark what areas those would be. Even at a high 8 I would have to say this is a must have for the Wii and truely a killer ap.

Don't worry about it dude... misunderstandings happen, no hard feelings... English is not my native language so i'm used to the criticism. Seriously, if they hadn't made me took Spanish as the 2nd language back in HS, i think my English is much better.

Till this day, i still don't understand why they forced me to learn Spanish while i was struggling with English...

Of course, after turning back the Paper Mario game case, i realized why... Oyi, so i can read the Spanish as well...

Wow - don't know how people are finishing this in under 20 hours. I'm at 20 and just got through 6-1. Of course, I'm slowed a bit by having to read all the text to my boys. That was getting *HIGHLY ANNOYING* in World 6-1, if you know what I mean ;). Don't tell me what they said I'd have to do in that chapter is what I actually have to do!? If so,...

sigh. I need help and I'm confused :(
In Chapter 7-4...
Where is this blue gem? I found the red & the yellow..and I've been all over to each sector..obviously I'm doing something wrong LOL..so..help :(

to lilboo, i hope this helps.
Did you unfreeze the guy in the secton below where you found the red and yellow?
You should have unfrozen him, and he didn't remember where he was. It's right before you go into the room that leads to the red and yellow, there should be a way to drop down to a door underneath, and in that door is the guy.

I'm starting Chapter 8, and clocking in at about 21 hours.

There are still a couple of side quests and card collecting to do after I finish the game, overall I think it was a good value for the $45.00 I paid for it.

At least it gave my Wii some use, it went unplayed after finishing Twilight Princess and unlocking everything in Warioware.

I didn't see him before..was I supposed to? LOL
Finally cleared that level. Weird and kinda sad ending to that chapter :(

Just finished Pit of 100 Trials :D (flipside)
And I guess I'm about to either do Pit of 100 Trials Flopside.. or..beat the game.

What do you get when you beat Pit of 100 trials on Flopside?

Cards

It's $45 at BB after coupon, and this is most certainly a game of such calibur that $5 should not be the deciding factor.

Good lord, there's TWO pits of 100 trials in this game?? That was the only thing I didn't complete in TYD (I got to 90 I think).

I spent some time cooking the other day. Do you ever get to hold more items? The very low limit on holding items is really annoying. I just found out that I could store things at the shops . But that only helps a little. I'd love to be able to load up on ingredients and knock out a bunch of stuff, but it is starting to look like it will take a lot of running around to stores.

And I haven't gotten very far with the cards either. I also just discovered the maps - looks like that whole sidequest will take some time as well (though it is probably the most interesting of the bunch).
io, what maps? Are they in the game or from a guide book?
It is the last "collectible" in your '+' button screen - doesn't show up till you find the right guy though (and buy them from him). They are maps to hidden treasures - specifically, they are pictures of areas within the game and you need to figure out where that picture is from and then go there and use a certain Pixl to extract the treasure. To me, that picture-matching aspect makes it the most fun of the sidequests. It would be best to get this sidequest done right after (or during) playing through the game as you will remember the different locations better.

Don't know if this has been posted yet, but there is a really cool fan forums site at www.digibutter.nerr.Biz

Many of the members roleplay as the Super Paper Mario Characters. It's very entertaining.

Francis has posted pics of a Schweet Butterfly he caught before some plumber came into his fortress and stole it away.

Thanks. Can you give me any "hints" as to where I can find this guy... (and maybe his exact location in spoiler tags)?

I am going to complete this game today..
I have a few questions for those who have finished it completely..
I already have Barry, and Piccolo. I did Flipside 100 Pit of Trials and got Dashell. I DIDN'T do the Flopside. After I beat the game and go back--are there anymore side quests? Or are the only things left to do in the game (besides Flopside 100) is to complete the cards & recipes?

Minor Spoiler:
after the story is over You can go back to Sammers Kingdom and finish the tournament that you were in before that world was destroyed

Warning Major Ending Spoiler dont read this untill after you have completed the story:
After you beat the game you will not have Tipi anymore, you can go talk to Francis at Chapter 3-4 and buy a robot Pixl for 999 coins called Tiptron that has the same power Tipi Does.

I couldn't remember earlier but last night we went and found him again. In Flopside, near the Cafe:

Go past the cafe and flip to 3D, then dive into the small water hole. This is the equivalent of the water hole in Flipside where you put the goldfish (except that one is visible in 2D). After you go through the water tunnel, you find the guy and another "Itty Bits" store.

Help Please ! Where can I get those two Pixls you mentioned in the spoiler? I thought you only got one from finishing the Pit... Are they all from the Pit of Trials? What do they do? (We finished the entire game, but never ran into those.)

Thanks.

Only in world 4-3, but I'm starting to agree with some of the problems people have with it.

Primarily, the reading does indeed get tiresome after a while. There doesn't need to be 3-4 minutes of text in between each stage. I'd say they could cut that out. Or at the very least, perhaps make it happen as you are travelling in the stage. It wouldn't be hard for Tippi to say some things here and there as you are walking around. We as gamers don't need to be told "Mario and friends looked out at the vast ocean before them" before they go out into the damn ocean. We just sort of put that together.

Honestly, this would have been a great game for Nintendo to have tried to do voice work. It would make the game much easier to digest. That way instead of several minutes of text, you could begin the stage and have a short speech as you are walking around from Tippi. So instead of "we need to find the pure heart bla bla bla," you just get a short recap from Tippi as you are bouncing on enemies.

Then cut out some of the pomp and circumstance. That was always a big problem I had with the Mario Party games - you could make the game half as long if there wasn't so much fanfare. Just let me move and get into the minigames - don't Knights of the Round it up every damn chance you get.

I think the deal here is that they want to kind of tell it as a story the whole time - kind of like Hotel Dusk, where it's always reminding you that you're more or less filling out actions foretold in these Light/Dark Prognosticus books. Like you get the feeling if there were a character in this universe reading the story of the Four Heroes and the Pure Hearts, they'd actually read "oh wow this is the part where Bowser fried the Cheep Cheep." It's kind of deterministic in that respect - like you exist as a means to the end of the stage at times, which is there just to keep the story moving.

And after a while, that just gets on my nerves. Axe the descriptions between levels and just give me a short "end chapter" sequence like in Thousand Year Door - where some loose ends got tied up while still moving the story forward. This feels much more start and stop (and quite abruptly, I might add) than TTYD.

Some of the characters can get a little tiresome also. At least this dumb little squid guy does. I dunno about some of the later people.

At any rate, the pacing needs work. Game needs to be faster. Either let me progress through stages like a normal 2D Mario game - quickly and efficiently - or at the least cut out some of the fluff/useless text.

I do think it's a great game, and absolutely gorgeous. I still have next to no complaints about the graphics (outside the occasional "camera can't see you" problem in 3D, as well as the sometimes anemic sparseness of the 3D).

Wonderful, beautiful game, but it needs to be faster paced.

Barry is back in 3-1 behind a bush. He was the one that hid after Tipi was kidnapped.

Picolo is obtained through a rather long side quest. to start the side quest talk to the fortune teller in Flopside. You have to hop over the counter and talk to her from behind.

Dashel is from the Pit of 100 trials in Flipside.

The second pit over in Flopside has no Pixl just some rare cards after you complete it two times.

Hope that helps :D
