Let's have one concentrated Wii Play thread for everyone to post about the minigames they like, hate, or whatever. Feel free to post high scores, too, and we may have a CAG leaderboard if we get enough interest.

I've only gotten through the first two mingames (Shooting Range and Find Mii) and I'm liking it so far. Find Mii really uses the Miis very well and was pleased that they're a lot more animated than they are in the Plaza.

Medal Lists:
Game-------------Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum
Shooting Range ----- 200, 400, 500, 600 (Changed Bronze to 200 from 250)
Find Mii -------------------20, 45, 60, 80
Table Tennis ----------- 40, 70, 100, 200
Pose Mii ---------------100, 250, 600, 1000
Laser Hockey ------------- 5, 7, 10, 16
Billiards ----------------- 30, 40, 50, 60
Fishing -------------1000, 1500, 2000, 2600
Charge! -------------- 100, 200, 300, 325
Tanks! ------------------- 20, 40, 84, 160

My high scores:

Shooting Range: 547 pts. (gold)
Find Mii: 37 lvls. (bronze)
Table Tennis: 91 times (silver)
Pose Mii: 329 pts. (bronze)
Laser Hockey: 6 pts. (bronze)
Billiards: 45 pts. (silver)
Fishing: 2030 pts. (silver)
Charge!: 264 pts. (silver)
Tanks!: 39 tanks (silver)

Find Mii videos (just some captured videos my crappy digital camera):

See if your Miis appear on here (if you're on my friends list).

This is a repost from the "WiiPlay ... rare?" thread.
There's only one minigame that, after having played them all (picked up WiiPlay this afternoon at Best Buy with $10 off coupon -- they had three on the shelf, now two), I would call a trash game. That's Pose Mii. The rest are either average or spectacular. Tanks! alone is worth $10.

Honestly, don't believe any naysayers. Considering the $10 price tag (+ $40 MSRP for a Wii Remote -- even better if you use a $10 BB coupon, $5 GGC, etc etc.), you get more than your money's worth.

Buy it.
Yeah, I'd say that the twisting is too sensitive. I was expecting 1:1 when I first tried it, but that wasn't the case. At E3 they had a demo like this game, but you had to twist your Mii as you went through a obstacle course, which was two players, and you had to pose your Mii at certain spots, so both players raced to see who could pose their Mii first and get the points. That was pretty neat, but I don't see it here, which is disappointing.
does wii play come with a case this time? Or is it another cardoard case like wii sports?
It comes in its own case inside the box. This is pretty much everything that's inside:
This game is shit! but for $10 bucks (being as the wiimote is 39.99) I don't care!
Don't listen to this guy. Tanks! alone is worth the price of admission.

And 2-Player Tanks! is co-op (could be a mix ... only one human player needs to live to advance), so ... yeah. Dude.

Tanks is pretty cool, as is laser hockey and pool. I would not pay 40 bucks for the game by itself, but I just got my Wii so I needed another controller; after using the 10-off coupon at BB, it's like I got Play free, which of course is a good price. Play would be a good demo disk to show people what the controller is capable of.
I opened up all the games last night in about 40 min or so.

It sucks that this didn't come out at launch because I'm not too fond of it assuming I'm a moron when it comes to using the Wii Remote.

I'm planning on picking this up tomorrow with the $10 off coupon at BB. According to BB.com they still have some at my local BB, and from what I've been reading about most stores having lots of copies I don't have to worry too much about them being gone by tomorrow.

I too am trying to use the $10 coupon from BB (AND I got a $10 giftcard since I bought DKR & FFVI)..but all the BBs near me are sold out

:(

worth 50bucks since u get a game and a extra remote thats hella hard to find right now! get ur hand on wii play if you can!! i personaly dont really like those mini games hehe

I'm hoping to find this game used at Gamestop sometime, as I really don't want a third controller.

However, I'm glad to see the praises. Can't wait to pick it up.

Only reason I got this was for the extra remote. Im glad I did though because my son likes the Cow racing game.

I figure it's a game he will like down the road when he is old enough to do it by himself. You can't beat that for $10.

Im dissapointed it doesn't have the hidden depth of Wii sports though. Oh well. Really can't complain about something that is $10.

most of the games are mediocre, tanks is above the rest. i would say its worth the price, especially since you get the controller.

nintendo sent me this, so now i have 5 wii remotes.
d'oh! should've held off on that fourth one.
what they really should've sent me is a classic controller...

anyway, i think it's worth it if you need another controller.
i like the find a mii, tanks game, and air hockey.
the rest are blah.

i doubt wii play will get much time in my wii.

All of the games are a blast for my kids! For me, however, the best are Tanks, Shooting Range and Find Mii. Tanks is an advancement over the Atari 2600 combat games. Shooting Range is great with two Wii-motes on single player mode. Find Mii is just funny with the wide variety of levels. I like the escalator and the flashlight levels.

I also like Billiards... it's pretty responsive and gives great hope for a full-fledged pool simulation... much like Wii Sports gives hope to baseball, tennis and golf simulators.. Tiger Woods 2007, anyone?

I'm surprised at all the "game-only" copies of Wii Play on Ebay right now. Then again, many bought this because of the boxed in Wiimote.

I'm semi-interested in the game, but I don't need another Wiimote. Might have to go the Ebay route.

I can't find a copy of this game anywhere. I thought everyone was saying they saw tons and tons of copies at their best buys and targets.....wtf?

Sold out over here.. The question I have is what will happen if they cant keep up witht he wii remotes for this... I mean its crazy.
Has anyone made a Wii Play cover yet? I found these, but they're kind of ugly.
Those are just the UK and USA box art covers.

Haha, I thought I wasn't going to get this for awhile but I pulled the dastardly deed of getting it at EBGames by waiting for the preorder holds to expire and zipping in for the kill.

I have actually found all nine games to be entertaining. I'm not sure how much replay vaule they will have but I well satisfied with the game. I think the best way to play is to go head to head with someone through all 9 games.

I pre-ordered from Amazon way back in November, and got it yesterday, which brings my Wii Remote count to three. I played through all the games with my kids, and later played a few games solo. Overall, it's a blast for two players, and ok for one player.

Shooting: Controls really nicely, but at four levels is indeed short. It's fun trying to snipe out more targets than a second player. On my "good, ok, eh" scale I'll rate this a 'good'.

Find Mii: My kids laughed a lot with this. Just ok for single player where all you can do is try to improve your score, but with two layers this is great fun trying to catch the Miis first. Good.

Table Tennis: We found this really hard to control. I suspect we just need more practice, but it feels really twitchy and our motions are too "big" at the moment. Just 'ok'.

Pose Mii: We played a few rounds, but the majority opinion here is that Find Mii is better. I'll rate this 'ok' as it's not bad, just not as good as the finding game.

Billiards: I like this a lot, but for a seven and six year old it's bit complex. Good.

Laser Hockey: This is brilliant. The ability to twist the puck rather than simply "pong" a puck back and forth allows for a lot of quick deflections to catch someone off guard, and the bright colors makes this a lot of fun. Good.

Fishing: We got bored with this pretty quickly. Some might like this better. I'm leaning more towards "eh" than ok.

Cow Racing: This is hilarious. My kids love it. Good.

Tanks: We haven't bothered to hook up the nunchuks, and I think this will improve when we do. Even with just the remote, my kids and I all agre this is another good game. I'd say this is our third favorite after cows (the kids favorite), and laser hockey (my favorite at the moment).

So let's see: six rated good, two ok, and only one eh. Considering that the game is ten bucks more than just a remote, about a dollar and change for each game here feels like great value to me. I suspect we'll play this a lot in the next few weeks, then get distracted by other stuff, and eventually we'll pull this out when we're in the mood for a quick challenge: "Cow race to see who gets to put away this dishes? Deal!" :)

I hadn't thought of it that way (cost/game). I would definitely have bought these for 200 Wii points apiece if they were Wii Shop downloads. So that makes the compilation seem like a pretty good deal.

I actually have spent about 3-4 hours now playing it by myself to get the medals (I'm at about 3 gold/3 silver/3 bronze). Unfortunately it looks like my least favorite games (Pose Mii, Ping Pong) are going to be the hardest to get golds in. I improved my score a TON in Pose Mii and Find a Mii and still didn't hit silver in either.

Add that time to the multiplayer my kids have done and it has definitely been worth it. I would have bought it for $30, to be honest (though I still wish it had a few more games).

Whoo-hoo! Got my first platinum tonight - in the shooting range. That is definitely the easiest to medal in (got gold first try, platinum after 2 more tries). They key in going from gold to platinum is to get combos (don't miss if you can help it). Also, make sure you nail all those alien ships at the end for all the bonus points for each Mii that is left over.

I hit *exactly* 600 points, which I think must be the cutoff for platinum.

On laser hockey, the cutoff for gold is 10 goals - 'cause I kept getting 9 and when I finally hit 10 got the gold.

The ones I may *never* get even gold on are Ping Pong rally and Mii Pose. Those are fucking impossible. (I have yet to get silvers out of those but I'm probably close). I also have gold on cow race, fishing (just got that tonight - I think 2500 is the cutoff there), and pool. Silver on tanks and Find a Mii, and bronze on ping pong and Mii Pose of course.

Once again, you don't need to make a cover for this. Inside of the larger box with the wiimote, the game comes in a regular retail white Wii DVD case complete with full cover art and even a barcode.
My bad, I meant these. I fixed the other post.
That's ugly as hell. Why not stick with the cover that comes with it?

Are there any other plans to release a game/accessory combo pack in the future? I hate spending extra money on accessories when I could be spending them on games, so getting the two packed together is a good excuse to pick up extra controllers and the like.

No news that I can recall. I believe in Japan, the classic controller came bundled with a Wii points card, but given that the controller is out already here without that bundle, I doubt we'll see that happen anytime soon.

On the other hand, I'm in no rush to get a fourth Wii remote, so if Nintendo does have plans for another combo I'd probably get it. :)

it comes with a wii box, it's not a cardboard insert like wii sports......

Check out the first FAQ for the game here to see what you need to get medals for each minigame.

I'm disappointed that you don't get anything for getting medals, either in the game itself or for getting all bronze, silver, gold, or platinums.

Interesting. I was only 3 points away from platinum on pool and only 30 points (2570/2600) on fishing. D'oh!

However, the FAQ is wrong about 2 scores, at least.

It says you need a 50 for silver in Table Tennis. I got a 67 and still only have bronze. That's a huge difference too because it starts to get way more difficult after 50. So that must be 70 or 75. (Edit - just completed it at 100 and got gold!).

On Pose Mii it says you get gold for 500. Wrong - I got 568 and still just have silver.

Another error in both FAQ's: platinum for Charge! (cow racing) is 325, not "315 or 320".

I'll email the guy who wrote it...

Was that on the first playthrough, where you have to just play each game to unlock them? If so, those don't count for medals at all.
Was that on the first playthrough, where you have to just play each game to unlock them? If so, those don't count for medals at all.
No, I did all that in the first 10 minutes. These were all subsequent play - I ALREADY had the lower medals in most cases and did not get the newer ones as the FAQ says I should.

The one on Charge! I had to try 3 times to get from 323 to 327 to trigger the platinum (and the FAQ says it is 320). Doesn't seem like much, but the difference is huge in that game as it means you have to be "perfect" - hit every scarecrow and Burger King guy (which is what we call the bouncing ones) AND make very good time.

But they are WAY off in some of the other ones (table tennis and Mii Pose in particular). The second FAQ listed on that page is even worse, though it does seem to have better ranges for the Mii Pose. Note that the 2 FAQ's disagree almost entirely with each other on the medal score levels .

I wonder if there are differences in the Japan/UK release vs the U.S. release? The first FAQ seems to be written based on the UK version.

We should put together a REAL list here.

I'll make a start:
Game----------------Bronze----Silver----Gold-----Platinum
Shooting Range-----250-------400-----500-------600
Find Mii----------------20---------45-------60--------80
Table Tennis---------30?-------75?------100------200 (FAQ is wrong on first 2 at 20,50 - is at least 26, 68)
Pose Mii---------------100-----250?-----600?-----1000 (FAQ is wrong on gold at 500 - is at least 569)
Laser Hockey---------5----------7---------10--------16
Pool--------------------30--------40--------50--------60
Fishing----------------1000-----1500-----2000-----2600 (1500 might be wrong for Silver)
Charge----------------100-------200------300------325 (FAQ says 320 for platinum)
Tanks------------------20--------40--------84--------160

I am now up to Platinum in Shooting Range, Fishing, and Charge; Gold in Table Tennis, Laser Hockey, and Pool; Silver in all the rest.

I can verify the 600 on Shooting Range and 325 (not 320) on Charge! as valid platinum levels. And I'm pretty sure 2600 is correct on fishing. 10 on Laser Hockey is definitely the gold level (as I hit 9 3 times before getting a 10). 16 would be damn near impossible on that one ;). The hardest to get gold and especially platinum would probably have to be the Pose Mii game. It is also my least favorite, so that makes it hard to spend a lot of time trying on it . I am definitely going to try for the platinum in pool as I came within 3 points. And I can't seem to get over 60 in Tanks but that game is fun enough that I will keep trying. I came very close to gold on Find Mii so I'll try that some more too. I'd like to at least hit gold on all levels.

Oh, by the way, the Gamespot page that Frisky linked to has this useful tidbit:

Different paddle for laser hockey
Press A and B together to switch to a different circular paddle before the game timer starts.

Give it a try, especially if you are playing 2-player ;).

Anyone else notice that the Wiiplay remote is slightly different than other ones?

My Wiiplay remote has a product code screen printed on the side with FCC ID and what not - my other ones do not.
My Wiiplay remote has a product code screen printed on the side with FCC ID and what not - my other ones do not.
Mine is exactly the opposite: the Wiimote I got with my launch console has the FCC ID on the side, but my WiiPlay Wiimote has nothing printed on the side.

Yeah, the guy mentions in the FAQ that he mainly knows the platinums and most of the gold scores for real and guesstimated the rest. I'm not sure why he didn't just work his way up to see where the lower limits were.

I'm checking what I can with a new Mii and see where anything is wrong. The bronze and silver scores for Table Tennis is 40 and 70, respectively. I just played over and over, increasing my score by about 5 and seeing if I got rewarded with a new medal. I'll add to the OP and see what we can get hammered out. What I'll do is list the scores we do have and when we can confirm them, I'll bold them.

OK, definitely add (and bold) 325 for platinum for Charge! as I danced on both sides of that line for a while ;).
I'm also positive gold on Laser Hockey is 10 (got 9's before I hit gold). And I got exactly 600 on shooting range and got platinum, so I'm pretty sure that number is right. I'm also pretty sure about the 2600 on fishing as I had 2570 with only gold, and got 2630 I think for Platinum.

Got those confirmed now. I've been able to confirm the other Shooting Range scores, with the bronze needing to be changed.
