The Official Wii Play thread (It's out this week!)

Bumping this back up to see how my scores compare to that needed for medals. Shooting Range was intense. It's missing only the dog.

High Scores (first attempts right now):

Shooting Range: 534
Find Mii: Level 14
Table Tennis: 50
Pose Mii: 573
Laser Hockey: 9
Billiards: 57
Fishing: 1530
Charge!: 0
Tanks!: 37

I actually like this game, I think it's worth as much as $20-25. I basically got mine for free since I only paid $42 for the package, but $10 more than the remote is damn good.

Here are my high scores:

Shooting Range: 586
Find Mii: Level 51
Table Tennis: 100
Pose Mii: 749
Laser Hockey: 11
Billiards: 45
Fishing: 2640
Charge!: 320
Tanks!: 47

Despite poor reviews, I admit this game is fun and addictive. The tank game is great for single player or double player. Most of the other mini games are pretty fun too. For a $10 title, or a $50 w/ remote, it is a must have for the Wii.

But I can see myself going back to Shooting Range, Table Tennis, Laser Hockey, Billiards, and Tanks a lot.

Laser Hockey - like many Wii Sports - offers a surprising amount of depth to those willing to explore.

I hear Cheapy and Wombat always talk about how they can only play Wii Tennis for a few minutes, while I'll spend hours playing trying to perfect my spin shots and serves.

The best thing about Laser Hockey is the fact that you can trap the puck by quickly turning your wiimote 180 degrees (so it lands on the back).

That alone adds so much dimension to the game. It just sucks that the computer is a really weak player. But against another person... the replay could never end.

Not bad for a $2 game.

Honestly, most of these should be offered on the Virtual Console channel for a couple bucks. Do that and people would probably be more open.

I wouldn't mind if the VC offered some XBLA functionality, even without online play.
I think Play doesn't deserve the not-so-good reviews it's gotten. I think most of them think of it as a fullprice game with a free remote, or that they (being reviewers and all) already have a bunch of remotes. I'll admit, that's a big caveat, an extra remote that isn't needed, but that should be taken into account with the review.
If you need/want another remote, and especially if you have people you'd like to draw into gaming, or you like 'pick up and play' games, Play's a nobrainer. If you are a totally single player, no one else even ever watches you play, and you already have all the remotes you need, then yes, Play probably loses a few points.

So I had time again this weekend. I went to level 20 "the final level" where the tanks disappear and you have to kill them.. It only netted me a gold and quite the game after I beat them..

Saturday afternoon I had some more time got 219 tank kills and close to level 50 or so.

Then I played an Sunday and got to level 69 or something.. I am hoping this has an ending (maybe at level 100?) when I got to level 50 they introduce more tanks (tanks 219 and 220 respectively) which are basically the fast green tanks and they can shoot missiles very quickly.. I have died at them because my 5 bullets are still in the air and I have nothing to block their missiles.

Anyway where is everyone at in tanks?

It deserves those reviews, as this is a launch titles that's coming way too late to the party to serve its purpose. Luckily, remotes are still hard to find, so there's still some demand for it, but if this had come out at launch, the scores would be better.
