Welcome to the Official CAG Gamerush/Blockbuster video game deal thread.

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals, of which there are none currently).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
There will be absolutely NO DISCUSSION of the recent doctored coupon. Do not discuss what you bought, what you traded it for, or anything else - all such posts will be deleted. Any discussion of that should be done here.

Also, it is bad form to discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arrive (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell new and used video game hardware, with the exception of the occasional new controller/memory card spotted at regular stores. (Edit - Some recent exceptions have cropped up: many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and a few stores have been reported to sell DS Lites).

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of new games (though, it seems, many of those have even stopped taking preorders).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later.

Heh, so much for the system not allowing more than 2 copies per transaction.

I put in an order for a few copies of Two Worlds. I can always use more credit to prepare for the Amazon gift cards. So Kunai, whats the total amount of credit that you have so far?

Ban? No no no. I'm pretty sure that BBI (Corperate) would hire mercenaries and put a price on your head. You better watch out for trip wires, bear traps, and make sure that Al Pacino is not in the car behind you fiddling with a remote detonator.

Well when you posted you ordered 24 copies I was like this clown just keeps making his stories bigger and bigger. But then you post a receipt where you traded in 8 of them all at the same time..... WTF is up with your store? They all going to get fired when a DM eventually gets wind of this! Well I now doubt you alot less as this was very impressive.... Post a pic with times of when you bought all the Beowulfs with credit and then traded um all right back in for double without leaving. Then all will believe in your powers. :D

EDIT: Insane when you use that zip in the GR store finder you get 10 stores in 10 miles... :drool:

I got a MUA/Forza 2 to trade in today but I am afraid my BB won't take it without the cover etc. So where is the best place to go to print off the cover art for those two games? Thanks for all help.

As well as being greedy you're proving yourself to not be very smart. You're receipt has the store identified on it, I know for a fact that BB corporate has been known to monitor the forums, I actually had the DM quote a post of mine once, after I was banned from the huntington beach GR. I'm not sure what you're gaining from being so boastfull, but I guarantee it's not attracting many fans.
 
Stoned we all know you don't care for Kunai, give it a rest. Others have asked to see receipts of the deeds because they sound so outlandish.

Posting a receipt isn't the smartest thing but it doesn't hurt you at all, so why the tone? As far as I know, Kunai has helped out a couple other people with flipping at his local stores (RageKod for one), which is more than I can say for myself.

He's got a good deal going. Am I jealous? Sort of, but it seems like his part time job. If he sets off a system wide alert so be it. If you are worried about being banned, slow down and spread out the trading. Truth is you can be flagged for doing as little as IO did, which really sucks, but thats life.
 
so i went to another BB last nite i never been before, and signed up for membership w/ same card i had @ previous store. i expected the flag to carry over, but it didnt. is it because i never been there before? so anyway i traded in some games & put it on the current value card i have.

when i traded in MUA/Forza, i just put the games in separate cases & cut the litho in half. the manager was like he cant take this,since no barcodes. but i was like as long as the game/booklet is in there, u can just look it up. then i pointed it out to him in "line 6". he was like yea see need cover art, then i said look over to next part w/ games. he was kind of tight.
walked out w/ $137 in credit.

You have no idea what you're talking about. I was banned from three GR's in the very early days and it took me two years to undo the ban. I have every right to be pissed off by his behaviour, and the more he draws attention to himself the more he directly impacts me and everyone else. I have worked hard to create friendly relationships with the managers of my local GR's, and if corporate or the DM intervenes there is nothing they can do. I trade simply to buy more games, he is going way beyond that threshold, he's running a business. If anyone want's to take pot shots at me for my opinion it's kunai, the rest of you can only hope he doesn't piss in your pond.
 
djkunai pretty much got away with murder. i wouldn't have taken that trade. kudos if you don't get caught though.

yea, you should have censored that pic more. also, you should have got it on a value card.
 
I have store credit at the Blockbuster in Norwalk. But lets say they don't have a game I want but the Blockbuster in West Covina has it. Will my store credit from Norwalk transfer over to the one in West Covina?
 
No, the credit is store specific. you could try and buy gift cards, that works to transfer credit, but some managers may know the credit was from trades and refuse to do it. I don't think they can put it on a value card after the fact, but my expreience may have been due to a poorly trained employee and not any specific system limitation. The final option is to try and get the store to do a store to store transfer.
 
Does anyone know if they take games without barcodes? I got the white PS2/Singstar bundle for Christmas and I reeeally don't want Singstar. I know EB will take it but Blockbuster generally tends to give more.
 
^ Tough call. I know that they don't take the PS3 guitar hero 3 game only because of that reason. It isn't in their system to look up, only the bundle is.

Back in the day, I was banned for flipping as well. I've never been shy about letting people know which store I trade at (I've posted it several times, answered PMs regarding it, and even listed it at the bottom of the trade wiki), so if you're even remotely in the area you can take advantage of it as well.

Granted, I didn't need to trade in 8 copies at once, since I planned on doing 6 over 3 accounts like I typically do. It was a one time thing that saved the employee time and hassle (and the 2 copies would have been traded in today as another 6 over 3 accounts, and again on Sunday with the remaining copies). All the employees know me, and they all know the games are legally purchased, so while I have been pushing BB to the limit with my trades, I do so courteously, respectfully, and (of course) consistently.

In all honestly, as a CAG, I'm willing to have you guys ship me your games so I can trade them in, get the $5 bonus, and ship the value card back to you. I'm not trying to screw anyone over.

I adhere to their rules (which they can alter at any time as most of you know, except it's always in my favor), and I help out the employees there on a regular basis (got the manager his PSP, buy some of the others candy, Rockstar- it's schmoozing, and it's a small price to secure large profit). If they ask me to stop trading in a certain game, I do (HoV, Darkness, Madden 06). I've been doing mass trading for months, and the number I've flipped hasn't affected any CAG around me, and the fact Darkness and HoV haven't dropped, I don't think I've affected anyone.

Like most retailer expereinces, YMMV.

I'm either a CAG Villain or CAG Hero. YMMV.

is two worlds still $37? forza is still $32, darkness is $32 still right? Hour of Victory is also $32 correct?

Are there any ohter good flips right now. I don't flip very often but with the GS B2G1 sale (1 day left) I think I might have to take advantage. I'm not going to go and flip 6 of the same game, but 3 games would work for me. what are the best ones to flip now? thanks.

Two Worlds is $32. My store gives out a $5 bonus (check the wiki for details).
 
I see. so are the one I listed the best trades?

I just hope that they don't go under sometime soon. I have $110 on a card now and hope to amass somewhere around $200 for $80 cash.
 
Bought 3 copies of The Darkness on 360 and 3 Forza/MUA bundles from Gamestop with the B2G1F, traded 3 sets (1 Darkness, 1 Forza, 1 MUA) to 3 different BB's/GR's.

The BB nearest to me told me there was a "warning" on my account that showed I traded in 3 copies of Monster Madness, and that it's Kentucky law to not accept more than 1 copy of the same game for trade in a 1 month period at any store in KY. As this sounded like it was something completely made up and the "warning" didn't stop him from accepting the 3 games I brought in, I shrugged it off and said I traded multiples because I trade for my cousins who are under 18. Amusingly, the store I traded 4 copies of MM to made no mention of this warning when I traded there tonight. :D

I now have over $500 in credit, enough for a PS3, which is my goal. Wish I could find a BB/GR in my area that still has a 60GB in stock.

I just stuck the manual for each in the front of each case. They looked up the titles in the system. Pretty much painless, except for one noob employee who had to check with another employee to make sure they could accept MUA and Forza. He kept looking at the manual and the disc trying to find where it showed "not for resale", would've been hilarious if he denied me considering I had already successfully traded 2 copies of each to 2 other Block Busters...
 
I have taken back 3 sets of MUA/Forza 2 and not a peep as of yet. 2 different GR's though, last time I took in 2 of each and the person a the counter asked if it was ok to trade in 2 of each and the manager said it was A OK!!This is by far the best flip I can see. Gonna go and raid the other GS's tomorrow.

You know part of me admires your success, but what I do .have a problem with is the boasting, it pushes others less established / capable to try the same BS without laying the ground work. If you have a good relationship with the GR manager thats your best protection, but be wary of pulling the same stunts at stores your not so freindly with. I say this hoping others will take note of that advice. Watch out for the corporate flunky manager hoping to gain promotion points by outing you as a devil customer (remember the BestBuy BS). Say hi to Jan in Huntington Beach, she's still grinding the manager axe, I guess she wasn't pretty enough to climb the ladder (sic). (sorry that was childish, but I needed to vent).

Kunai, go underground with the details, stick to xyz is a good trade type of advice.

The current B2G1 used promo is still the best deal at $16.19. After the promo ends next week, $17.99 for a new copy (minus the usual 10% off coupon) or $14.39 for used (hopefully $17.99 minus 10% off coupon & 10% off for Edge) will still be a nice flip at GR. Here's hoping the trade price holds!

Ah good point. I just don't bother with mail order for certain things, takes too long to arrive. It's also easy enough to check the discs or return to GS if necessary.

How long does it take the gamefly games to get to you that you purchase from them? I havenever used gamefly but might consider them once brightspot starts back up, is it worth it?

do all you guys continually flip things at GR? I am so used to looking for CC and BB deals, but GR usually has newer games in stock. What do you use your credit on?
 
I got my two worlds yesterday and I ordered on the 25th. They processed it and shipped it on the 26th so it was pretty quick.
 
I wish I could trade games @ BB/GR. I used to filp lots of games @ BB/GR. I stopped for about a year and then found out that my account was banned a few months ago. One local store manager said that my account was banned by the DM.

My question is: Can I open a new account using a different credit card? Did they input the driver license # when you open a trade account?(sorry, I opened my GR account long time ago) By the way, I moved to a different city. I hope that it will help me to open a new account.

Got tired of running around with so much store credit so I bought two :360: Pro Holiday Bundles after verifying they have 175W power ratings. Now I just gotta decide if I'm gonna keep one or sell them both.

If on the application form you have a different driver's license # or you just write down a different one and they don't double check (you know write one incorrect #) then you can always get a new account. When ever new memberships are done we look them up by the license # for previous accounts. I've got some where around 25 BB accounts now...

Man that pisses me off. I ordered on the 25th too and I received a call Friday confirming that I ordered two copies. They finally shipped it Saturday and I'm hoping to get them on Monday. If the value holds I'd like to order more but I have no confidence in their shipping.
 
Apparently, I missed my GameFly shipment (three Two Worlds and one Darkness). What sucks is that I ordered Shadowrun a couple of days after my first set and I just got that in the mail today.:roll:

Stopped by a BB/GR in Garden Grove and traded in my MUA/Forza 2 bundle (substituting manuals for covers) and PS3 version of Darkness without a cover (not entirely accurate, I printed a 360 cover and used that;)). What I noticed was that employees new to trading (meaning first time they've had to process a trade) are more willing to accept trades. I was shot down at a BB/GR because of the MUA/Forza 2 missing cover art and the PS3 Darkness. The BB/GR I went to today simply said "check the disc" and didn't blink an eye to the missing cover art:D.

Oh, and the main reason I'm typing this is to say that I scored a fairly decent condition copy of Pikmin 2 at this particular BB/GR (sorry, no more). No manual but the cover art is there and the disc is in excellent condition. Suffice to say, I severely regret trading my brand new copy of Pikmin 2 that I purchased from GR more than a year ago (when certain GC games were half price new). It's in the past though, and sending a hoarde of red pikmin into the water to drown has never felt better:twisted:.

Now, if I could just decide whether or not to pull the trigger on a 80GB PS3 or the 60GB version...........
 
Nothing big but MAYBE a new double your money flip game in Speedy's ads starting next sunday. Tried to call 3 stores but all left me on hold so I said screw it since price could change again tuesday anyway. Might be worth it if you get the 110% price adjustment buying at other stores.

Doesn't look like TMNT will be very good. It's listed at $15 on the wiki and that was a few months ago so im guessing its gone down a few bucks as well.
 
Well in my defense I posted that I tried calling a few stores and it was probably a double up on your money spent at best. Unless you have a Djkunai store that gives the extra $5 still. If you PM and get the 110% at a competitor it should be around 7.50 with tax. I'm spoiled like everyone else and $.50 on the dollar credit isn't what it used to be... lol :D

$.50 on a dollar isn't too bad, just not that great on a lower value game when you take into account time and gas doing all the dirty work. Too bad its not $16 = $32.
