Welcome to the Official CAG Gamerush/Blockbuster video game deal thread.

First and foremost, please check out the
GameRush Trade-In Prices Wiki.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals, of which there are none currently).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
There will be absolutely NO DISCUSSION of the recent doctored coupon. Do not discuss what you bought, what you traded it for, or anything else - all such posts will be deleted. Any discussion of that should be done here.

Also, it is bad form to discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arrive (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell new and used video game hardware, with the exception of the occasional new controller/memory card spotted at regular stores. (Edit - Some recent exceptions have cropped up: many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and a few stores have been reported to sell DS Lites).

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of new games (though, it seems, many of those have even stopped taking preorders).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later.

Reported Trade-In Prices

Yay for Darkness! I'm going to assume no drops again this week, but I still have to doublecheck.

I need to get these checked-

360
Cars
Fuzion Frenzy 2
Open Season
Madden 06

Just confirming, Untold Legends PS3 $12.59, Need for Speed:Carbon PS3 $18.89 at EB/Gamestop. These prices are after 20% coupon and Edge card.
GR gives $23 for Legends and $30 for Carbon. I did this trade early this afternoon(tues. 11/13).

On another note, has anyone here on the west coast been able to get Mario Galaxy from TRU yet? And score the $25 gift card? As of 2 p.m. mine says they haven't received it yet but are expecting it.

My store said Thursday for Galaxy. In other news...

:360:
Forza 2 $32
MUA $15
Fuzion Frenzy 2 $15
Open Season $15
Cars $8
Madden 06 $8

Hmmm..... my local GR/BB just told me they're getting Assassin's Creed in on Friday, but their board lists Mass Effect as 11/20 (the actual release date). Seems kinda odd they'd get AC 3 days late and ME on time.

Do they ever get games shipped in early like everyone else is getting Mass Effect early? Did they have Halo 3 or Crackdown or any other release date labelled games available on release day because they received shipment early? Just an idea.

They also said they're getting Rock Band on the 20th.

Perhaps it has something to do with Thanksgiving? Makes sense that they'd want to have items stocked by Friday; I imagine BB sees a lot of traffic over holiday weekends.

ROCK BAND BUNDLES SPOTTED IN GAMERUSH

My store was unboxing a shipment of 4 and I preordered 3 of them. They have a sticker that says not to be sold until 11/20.

HOLD THE PHONE!!!!!

Okay so my wife and myself are in one of the local BlockBusters a few minutes ago, going to rent Spidey 3 and Shrek 3. I am bringing in my second copy of The Darkness for Ps3 Will give me just enough credit to buy a DS I currently have $102.

The girl runs into the back room and gets on the phone after she scans my membership card.

Comes out and claims that BlockBuster across the country is no longer doing game trades at all...... Claims this is in force until after the holidays. I "can try later".

My wife starts to question her as to why she had to go to the back room to "get a from" and then comes out claiming this..... just then the cashier gets a call and picks up.... Talks about "Michigan Law" and says I will be getting a call from the District Manager due to trading in too many of the same titles and he wants to contact me about reprocussions.....

My wife flips and asks for a managers number the girl refuses to even talk to her ("she is working with the primary card holder") and goes into he back room to get me the District number (which no one will answer as I have tried 3 times now to call). She then wants an updated phone number so the manager can call me and again "talk about the repercussions"

I have traded in 3 darkness (2x 360 & 1x PS3) the most of any other title I have traded across 3 local stores is Superman 360.

What in the world is going on. Are they going to try to take my credit that I have left? I this past weekend bought 2 DS's and was going in for my third this week after this final trade in....

Woah, thats bad news. I can see them cancelling game trades during the holidays as I am reseraching what I can flip on Black Friday.

Sorry about your scare, we're here to listen if you could keep us updated.

I think they were just making up some BS because they didn't want him trading anymore games. Seems like some stores get these rouge managers that decide to go on a power trip and start banning people.

Don't sweat it, as long as you didn't commit any crime's, the worst that will happen is they will ban you from trading. Just point out even their own trading agreement allows for multiple copies of a single item per day. I'm talking from experience as I was banned a few years ago. They can't revoke you're credit it is yours legally. Basically pawn shop laws apply. You do need to talk to the DM/Manager though, talking to the clerk does seem a little silly.

Yeah, you've probably got some manager trying to be clever and thinking he caught someone trading stolen goods (thus the "Michigan law" nonsense). It seems to be completely incomprehensible to some of these people that games can be bought cheaply and traded in at a profit at their store. Ergo, multiple copies traded must be stolen. Just explain to him where you got them and that you followed their own rules (2 copies per day).

But the story about not taking trades till after the holidays?? If they made that up that is a BS move. If they expect you to be honest with them then they need to start off that way as well .

If anyone can check Lego Bionicles for me that would be much appreciated. I am a bit harried with the almost birth of my kid today (cancelled because the hospital was too busy) and now having to go through all the preparation again for another 6am wakeup tomorrow. Plus I don't want to call my local stores about game trades any more as they have been giving me the evil eye every time I go in there because of the coupon. There is another BB close to the hospital though and I have multiple Lego Bionicles I need to unload so I wanted to bring one there maybe Thursday afternoon after I leave there.

To my knowledge FYE (and affiliates such as Saturday Matinee) are the only "trade-in" stores I have known to suspend trades around the holidays (and weekends). A number of years back Gamestop (before the merger) was not taking trades on weekends. The only problems with trades I ever encountered at gamerush was when a seperate "Gamerush" employee was not present to do game trade-ins- but for the past 2 years or so that policy seems to have changed, giving regular employees the authority to do game trades.

I'm not entirely sure whate is going on with all these seemingly Gamerush "vendettas" that seem to be popping up so frequently. Granted, I have never built up the amount of credit there as 2/3 of the people on this board have, but I just can't understand why basic employees (and not managers) are starting confrontations with customers over trade transactions...

My local BlockBusters have been getting more adamant about putting the trade-in credit on my account versus putting it on a Value Card. They don't like their money walking away to another store.

I can see that happening more and more...since some are franchise owned.

I have a few more games to trade in then I "think" I might be done for a while. Still debating to keep WarHawk or not. It was ok....but not great.

Now I have about $72 in BB credit and nothing to do with it. I already bought SMG/AC. Anything I should look for in the next few months that BB will carry/sell?
Anyone have a trade value for Shrek 3 on Xbox 360? I saw it on clearance at Target for $12.
shrek 3 is $20 retail so it's probably not going to be much.

I was just at the victory location renting a movie and spooted 3 or so Rock Band Bundles with the price sticker on them. Not sure if they were display but hey it doesnt hurt calling in. I would have asked but I can wait to pick up the bundle in 6 days.

Haha I've been around the site for a few months now, just havent got into the habit of posting much. I was at GS last friday night with AV and went to GR after. I thought you knew I was on this site.

Looks like GS is tightening up it's trading rules. I was refused a trade today because I did not have the artwork. The same thing happened at a different store last week, but the clerk decided the rule only applied to movies and took the trade anyway. So beware if you're flipping, of course I'm convinced all those games at EB/GS without cover art are really stolen from somewhere, come on how can they have so many copies without the cases. It's shoplifters using the razorblade trick to liberate disks from walmart, etc.

On a funny note, I spent 300$ of my credit on preorders yesterday, only to need it today at a different store to buy up their stock of used Halo 3's, which is basically the only item worth flipping inreverse to EB. GR sells Halo 3 for 50$ used, thats a really good deal.

Victory blvd on Staten Island????

Anyway, my typically non-eventful trade transaction...

Splinter Cell: Double Agent (X360): $12.

I noticed a copy of Wartech (360) in the used section priced at $15- so I'm assuming that $15 is no longer the trade in price.#-o

I also noticed a single copy of Beowulf (360) in both the rental and new retail section. Not sure if it was just released this week or not...

I noticed one copy of Beowulf at my local store too. IGN.com lists Nov. 13 as its release date. Why they have that in but not Assassin's Creed yet is beyond me.

Probably due to assassins creed not coming out in theaters anytime soon and beowulf is... They are a video store primarily so they have backwards mentality.

Assassin's Creed will show up in stores on Friday afternoon.

Mass Effect should show up on shelves on release day (20th?). We'll get it the day before just like with Halo 3 and WWE 2008.

Trade bans... If you trade EXCESSIVELY or break the trade rules (more than 2 a day, etc.), you will be banned by corporate and your account will have the trade ban attached to it no matter what Blockbuster you go to. If it's just some retard manager or district manager getting his/her panties in a bunch, you'll probably be banned from a particular store/set of stores. Simply stop going to that store(s) for 6 months. In that 6 month period, the majority of the staff will have changed and all of your account history will have disappeared from their computer system. After 6 months, when you go back in, act innocent, maybe rent a movie or two, then start trying to trade again. If they say something about the ban (and it isn't one of the panty bunchers), tell them that it was due to someone who stole your blockbuster card and was doing fraudulent activity. Tell them you contacted corporate and everything was taken care of.

So the question becomes, what constitutes EXCESSIVE.

Haha no Victory blvd in the san fernando valley here in so cal. Kunai and I live a few minutes apart from each other.

Yeah, that's what I'm wondering. I trade at 8 stores in my county, both GameRush and regular Blockbuster locations. When a good flip game is uncovered, I'll usually trade one copy of the game to each of the 8 locations (only one copy total per store, not per day or anything like that). It seems reasonable to me, but I wouldn't be surprised if I got tagged for "excessive" trading at some point.

I just picked up three of those Rock Bands. 1 PS3 and 2 360. If anyone near Los Angeles is interested, I have them for $175 and you get to rock all weekend.

Also, interesting trading thing- WarTech trades for $14.99 now, and Shrek 3 trades for $19.99. Strange enough seeing trade values ending in anything that isn't a quarter, Shrek 3 sells for $19.99. They're giving the same amount they sell it for. I'm assuming it was an auto-correction when they dropped the used price of Shrek 3 down to $19.99 and the system adjusted it so they would at least break even. Still, quite strange.

I'm really surprised they even got them, let alone put them out. None of the blockbuster's/gamerushes should be getting them until the 18th/19th. Ah well, BB's stupidity is your gain.

The box they came in was marked "DO NOT SELL UNTIL 11/20" on the sides, but it was easily missed if you weren't paying attention. I picked these up from a GR I normally only hit up if I need consoles, but Ragekod tipped me off, so I stopped by earlier tonight. They still had a few, but all my credit is at another GR holding my preordered copies. I could only pick up 3.

With the B2G1F sale at EB/GS coming next weekend, there ought to be a lot of good flips available. I suppose after we hear about price drops on Tuesday we can start discussing it more in detail but I'm hoping to score big on Black Friday.

These threads have been running for a long time, and I've never heard of anyone receiving a system wide ban, it's usually district manager specific. Like I said before the trade agreement allows for multiple copies of a single game, so unless you're actually stealing I don't think there is such a thing as excessive trading. I was originally banned for flipping, not excessive trading, which was simply defined as buying a game under a certain promotion and then immediatelly trading it back for a profit. Those days are mostly over, even though I hear some stores are running the +5 deal (not in my area), which does create a possible scenario, if you buy supper cheap games and then trade them back to a BB.

Well I got at least a district ban. I think they put a note on system.

I called the District managers phone number 10 times in the last 3 days with no answer or even a voice mail to leave a message. i called the store twice and no real manager is ever present.

I even "filed a complaint" with the Customer Care number, received a case # and was told I would hear from them within 24 hours... and yet no response.

This shoddy customer service is the reason I stopped renting at BB in the first place. I have been a card holder for some 10+ years though. I have traded close to 75 DVDs (if anyone remembers the $5 or $8 minimum days).

Its just beyond crappy, but it is life.

Yeah, I tried going through CS for my previous issue and it never went anywhere. I suggest you open a complaint with the BBB. That will get their attention, at least enough to get you a reasonable answer. It's odd that the DM is not answering your calls. I wonder if you have the correct phone number ?

part of the reason i called the store back is to verify that was the correct number. I gave no pretense to my request for the DM number, so they should of had no reason to mislead me.. the number he read was the number I had been given two days prior.

DM's are notorious for not answering their phone. They always let it go to voice mail and then deal with the situation when they have time/feel like it. Once you call the CS number, the situation is supposed to be resolved within 24 hours, but obviously that's not the case either.

As for system wide trading ban... I've never seen one, but I know it's possible to do with the updated computer system they implemented 6 months ago (it was part of the communication they sent out... they can also ban particular accounts from writing checks and renting at any store).

Trades:

360 C&C 22$
XBX DDR UltraMix 2.50$
360 All PR0 FOOTBALL 2K8 15$
CUBE Mario Party 7 24

Picked up Assassin's Creed and they had RockBand sitting behind the counter, but they wouldn't let me pick mine up :)

OK, here's my Blockbuster rental rant...

So I have pretty much unlimited game rentals should I want them (via Coke Rewards).

The problem is, all the games I really want to rent, they never get any copies of. I'm only going to rent things that are fairly short and probably won't buy for a long time or may never buy. Case in point: Carnival Games. My local Blockbuster is in a small town and EVERY time I'm in there, there's parents with kids looking for games and movies. Yet they have SIX copies of Timeshift to rent (none checked out Fri afternoon) and 5 copies of Spiderman Friend or Foe (none checked out). Yet they have NO copies of Carnival Game, Mario and Sonic at the Olympics, Mario Galaxy (!), and Viva Pinata Party Animals. I didn't ask about the Mario games (I assume they will have Galaxy at some point but it is pathetic not to have it for Friday evening at least) but Carnival Games and Viva Pinata PA they don't even have on order. Of course I have no interest in renting Mario Galaxy (already own it of course) but I probably would want to rent Mario & Sonic too.

So, anyway, I rented Lego Star Wars Complete Saga which, at least, they had ONE copy of (for 360). But whoever makes the purchasing decisions on game rentals has the brains of a small rock... Is that a local thing or decided at the District or Corporate level? Oh, I should also add that they DO have the complete set of uber-crappy Wii titles that are so bad that you can't even find reviews: that Broomstick racing game, for example.
OK, here's my Blockbuster rental rant...
So, anyway, I rented Lego Star Wars Complete Saga which, at least, they had ONE copy of (for 360). But whoever makes the purchasing decisions on game rentals has the brains of a small rock... Both blockbusters by me have about 6 copies of Sonic and Mario, 1 copy of Carnival games, 1 copy of lego star wars complete saga. For whatever reason they also have 3 copies of the spyro game for Wii. I have never seen anyone rent the Spyro game.

I've always found in interesting how they can't add additional copies to the rental distribution, if limited copies turn out to be super popular. I asked the manager today what happens if I choose to keep a rental (incase I forgot to preorder), and basically if it's the only copy, they don't get a replacement. That's just plain stupid, but I guess make's BB more into a retail store for someone like me, or you IO
