Welcome to the Official CAG Gamerush/Blockbuster video game deal thread.

First and foremost, please check out the
GameRush Trade-In Prices Wiki.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals, of which there are none currently).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
There will be absolutely NO DISCUSSION of the recent doctored coupon. Do not discuss what you bought, what you traded it for, or anything else - all such posts will be deleted. Any discussion of that should be done here.

Also, it is bad form to discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arrive (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell new and used video game hardware, with the exception of the occasional new controller/memory card spotted at regular stores. (Edit - Some recent exceptions have cropped up: many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and a few stores have been reported to sell DS Lites).

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of new games (though, it seems, many of those have even stopped taking preorders).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later.
I've always found in interesting how they can't add additional copies to the rental distribution, if limited copies turn out to be super popular. I asked the manager today what happens if I choose to keep a rental (incase I forgot to preorder), and basically if it's the only copy, they don't get a replacement. That's just plain stupid, but I guess make's BB more into a retail store for someone like me, or you IO
That would explain why I couldn't find any copies of Gears of War to rent...:wall:

All orders are decided at the corporate level. Depending on the expected popularity of the title, the popularity of the console (360>Wii>PS3), and the amount of business a store makes (just to name a few of the main factors), determines what stores get how many copies (and whether they will get any retail copies as well).

What sucks about the system is that (as stated earlier) the store manager cannot change the order or order more if the title is popular. This is all a factor of poor programing of the ordering system 10-20 years ago. However, with the new CEO who just started a couple of months ago (Jim Keyes, former CEO of 7-11) this has a small chance of changing. Keyes is a big time number cruncher and is a big advocate for stores making their own decisions. He implemented this in 7-11 and it worked wonders. I wouldn't be surprised if he does it to some extent for BB as well. It might take a while, but you might actually see some positive changes in the future (pre-orders mean the store will definitely get a copy of the game, different games and/or number of copies of games depending on the customer type, etc.).

Also Warner, what time are your stores opening? I'm hoping to hit up EB/GS at 6am and then make several dumps to GR.

I'm hoping to find a Wii at a GR, what day do the SoCal ones get consoles in?

Are there any current or upcoming deals regarding purchasing used games? Are their used prices usually lower than other stores?

Did a trade for the first time in a while.

:360: All-Pro Football 2K8: $15
:360: Lego Bionicles: $15

This is the store with a few new games for sale. They had Guitar Hero III for 360, but I think it might have been game only (display case was marked $59.99). They had Assassin's Creed for 360 but remarkably, no Mario Galaxy (or Mario & Sonic At the Olympics). They had Need For Speed Pro Street for all 3 systems, I believe (not sure about PS3 but 360 and Wii for sure). And they had some wrestling game - must have been the one Wombat was talking about in the last CAGcast. I'm talking new games for sale at a non-GR Blockbuster, just to be clear.

I'm gonna go make another trade as soon as they get Assassin's Creed for 360 in. All they have right now is the PS3 version. I'm gonna trade Stranglehold, Tomb Raider: Legend, Def Jam Icon, & Rumble Roses XX.

Anyone spot Uncharted at their local GR with the early release? Knowing BB/GR, they'll state the original release date as mantra in their system.

I still have CoD4 sealed from a trade I pulled last week & am now thinking of trading it for Uncharted. I still have Halo 3 & Orange Box unplayed at the moment, so I want to be able to get a game in another genre at least (managing my backlog is awesome!)

hey man, i'll give you bioshock for call of duty 4

The west side Norman, OK store just became a regular blockbuster again. No more locked cases with systems or game counter (although it has been vacant for a long time). Games went from the front of the store to the very back.

Doubt any GR will get Uncharted early since they cant get 99% of games on the actual release day. I've got it paid off at Gamerush but I hate waiting so I went to Gamestop and bought it today i'll just return the GR copy for a refund friday. I plan on starting something new tonight or tomorrow after I finish CoD4 offline it would have been Mario Galaxy but I figure I can play through this alot faster than i'll spend on Mario so I had to bump the big fella back. :D

No more new releases this year I want but still sucks that i'm completely out of GR credit after this. It's been a great last couple months though paid half price for PS3, Wii and all the new releases I could handle at half price as well. We needs another bigass coupon/bigass trade value games to come along soon.:D

Does anyone know BB's return policy on guitar hero? I have a Wii version and want to return it for a PS3 version.

Thanks!

30 days sealed with receipt.
30 days? Any idea about the return policy for sealed consoles? No one at my store knew when I asked lol
My GameRush stores don't allow returns on consoles at all, sealed or not.

Not often; but every now and then I find something for $5-$10 less than Gamestop's used price. Bioshock comes to mind; I think its $45 at BB/GR and $55 still at Gamestop.
Are GameRush's used game prices usually lower than usual?
On new stuff, usually. Games that are $54.99 used at EB are usually $49.99 (Halo 3) or $44.99 (BioShock) at GameRush. Of course, that's usually cancelled out by an Edge card.

GameRush tends to be a little behind on price drops though, so games like The Darkness ($26.99 at EB) tend to still be $40+ at GameRush (which is nice, because buying games used at EB makes for decent trade profit at GR).
Are GameRush's used game prices usually lower than usual?
Gamerush tends to have A LOT of used games that usually go for $25+ at gamestop priced at a comfortable $20 (for the 360, at least). Saint's Row, the latest Fight Night, 99 Nights, Star Trek Legacy, Battle for Middle Earth II are some that immediately spring to mind.

All stores should open at 10AM. As for consoles... no idea. Our store has never gotten a console since I've worked there (1.5 years).

Somebody mentioned earlier something about Mass Effect "being on the shelves" release day... would that be referring to new copies for purchase (and not pre-ordered).

Also, someone should keep an eye on the popular "flip" titles (Darkness, Hour of Victory, Over G Fighters, etc.), especially this coming tuesday. Haven't had any reports on those in a week!

Darkness held last week, I never heard about HoV. I'm really going to try to take advatage of the B2G1F @ EB/GS on Friday and Flip a ton of games.

I'll be calling or visiting to check prices for those regulars and some of the other ones mentioned in the last few weeks.

Please let us know which games are flippable. My GR doesn't allow for multiple copies of the same game to be flipped, much harder for me. T_T
Anyone trade in Blue Dragon recently? Just curious of the price....no Wiki info for it.
It's gotta still be either $30 or $35.

GR/BB are selling used Halo 3 for 44$, this works especially nice with my local GS/EB which has a 50% trade in promotion, nets 56$ in credit.

Stoned, you are referring to the Trade 5 get 50% extra promotion?

Ideally you could trade in 5x Halo copies for this and turn credit back into EB/GS credit.

Good luck getting GS to take 5 copies at the same time.

No, 4 locations in Southern California have been running a promotion +50% on any trade. It runs until Dec 2nd. My location is Cypress, CA.
Does BB have a decent selection of gaming controllers? I wanna trade in some games if I can pick up a wiimote and an extra ps3 controller.
I know the GAMERUSH stores have a god amount of Wiimotes and PS3 controllers. I see lots of Wii accessories at mine (at least theclassic, nunchuck and wiimote).
Does BB have a decent selection of gaming controllers? I wanna trade in some games if I can pick up a wiimote and an extra ps3 controller.
The GR by me has a lot of new controllers, at least for the 360. Wireless headsets, too.
Does BB have a decent selection of gaming controllers? I wanna trade in some games if I can pick up a wiimote and an extra ps3 controller.
I've noticed at Blockbusters, they usually have 1 or 2 Wireless 360 controllers and usually 1 of each Wiimote & Nunchuck. Maybe a Sixaxis once in a while
anyone know what COD4 PS3 trades for?
I'm going to assume $35 at the very least....maybe $36 or $37 as PS3 had higher trade values sometimes.

This stinks. I was told that the Blockbuster near my house could order games so I traded in a bunch of stuff and have $160 in credit. I was going to order Rock Band and they say that they can't order that particular game.

That's weak. Now I have $160 in blockbuster credit. Hooray.

My store received Mass Effect today and I picked it up with the last $60 of a crapload of credit I accumulated flipping from Circuit City clearance titles this summer. I basically ended up paying less than half price for an Xbox 360 Premium, Bioshock, The Orange Box, Call of Duty 4, Gears of War, Beautiful Katamari, The Simpsons Game, Assassin's Creed and Mass Effect. Add on to that picking up Dead Rising, Crackdown, Call of Duty 3 and GRAW as part of the 5 for $25 coupon before it was known to be bogus and the combination of this board and Blockbuster have been pretty good to me this year.

:ps3:
Darkness $33 :hot:
Assassin's Creed $33

:360:
Darkness $32 :hot:
Hour of Victory $32 :hot:
Earth Defense $8
Cars $8
Fuzion Frenzy 2 $8
Open Season $15
Gun $12 :hot: :hot: :hot:

Did you pre-order Mass Effect, or were there copies available for everyone to buy? If the latter, what was the amount of copies available.
