The Orange Box: Team Fortress 2 - Gen. Discussion

I never had a problem finding a game. The only thing I didn't like were that some of the people were really annoying. Wish I would've kept it to play with some CAGs but Call of Duty 4 is taking up all my time.

Will that splinter the community though? Will people with the update just dominate everyone else that doesn't want to pay 10 bucks for it?

Well, the new weapons aren't necessary better than the other ones, they are just different. The way it will splinter the community is the lack of game modes for people without the update.
But the update will likely cost 800 pts :(.
I don't care. We are kind of used to paying for almost all of our DLC on the 360 that I really don't mind. I love the game and I will buy the content as soon as it's out. The good thing about getting updates to 3 characters at once is that there wont be all Medics or all Pyros in a game at once since we have 3 new characters to play with

I tried playing it on PC, and failed...so I jumped in on 360 for the first time against people. First trying Pyro and sucking, I quickly switched to Engineer and had a blast popping up dispensers and sentries. Awesome.

So if someone tells me the name of the Clan tag, I'll gladly send an invite so I can play some more.

Bastards are making us pay for updates!
I don't know if its Valve or M$, both or some unknown 3rd party, but some one is making us take it in the ass.
That being said I would like to join you guys some games! :D
my info is pretty relevant from my sig.

Quote from Gamespot

"On the PC side, we've done as many as four updates in a day, and that's great: we can respond very quickly," Newell said. "Or we can do the Pyro updates, and the Medic updates [and so on]. On the consoles, they want us to charge money for them, because that's in their model, and our model is very much more to grow the community by giving out free updates. That's harder for us. And then on the consoles they have pretty lengthy certification periods, and we're pretty happy that our customers think that we do a good job on the quality side of updates, and we don't need someone looking over our shoulder checking to make sure that we're not going to screw our customers with a bad update."
I really hope the updates are free. Don't compromise your values, Valve!

Anyone up for a game right now? I'm gettin' on in a few minutes.
They don't have a choice. MS is forcing them to charge. That's why they're waiting, to give us the most bang for our buck by collecting many updates into one for the 360.

I wouldnt mind paying the 800pts for this update at all.
Its truly worth it, much more so than those damn COD4 maps anyways

I would gladly pay for these updates. The thing that worries me is how many of the TF2 360 community are willing to pay for them? I don't want to go into a New map and see there's no one playing on it.

I think people would be willing to pay for it. Although I don't want to pay for it, I probably will. The people left playing TF2 on XBL are pretty dedicated to the game. I see lots of familiar people playing the game whenever I play.

It's too bad I got rid of the game when I did. I didn't think the updates were coming and I kinda got tired of nothing but Pyros in every room. Then again, I never did play with any of you guys.

i hate spies! always zapping my sentry lol Im a dork so im going to pay for the update no matter what! i want to get my OM NOM NOM NOM on!

Finally got my internet and xbox up at the same time.

Add me and I will try to play a couple nights a week.

People still play TF2. There will probably be an update for the TF2 (360). So, more people will start to play. Isn't it like $30 or something now? If it is, that's a very good price. TF2 is definitely better on the PC though. You can easily purchase Orange Box (steam) from other people for like $7-8..

By itself on Steam and Retail, TF2 is $20. The Orange Box is still $40, and if I had a choice, I'd pay $40 for TOB.

When the DLC/Update hits the 360, I fully expect it to be 400 points, but no achievements. TF2 on PC has like...150+ achievements or something insane like that alone already. So, don't expect anything insane like that to happen.

Some communities' sole purpose is to sell CD Keys/Accounts. Most of the time, you'll find people selling steam accounts that have the basics: CSS, Orange Box, etc.. for cheap (assuming you purchase an 8-digit steam). You essentially buy the person's account that has the games on it. Then again, if you don't trade someone that is trusted, there's a chance you may get scammed.

I was playing HL2 this morning from the beginning. With all the content in Orange Box, it's a steal, even at $40 or whatever price it is at. Soodmeg, that is an awesome video btw. Boom, headshot, and it was like 4 seconds in!

Yep, it's an incredible deal for TF2 alone. I've spent roughly as much time with TF2 as I did with WoW, and I rate TF2 far higher in both gaming enjoyment and (obviously) value.

Meet the Sniper is my favorite of the bunch. "I think his mate saw me" is something I can relate to in my limited sniping experience, though that ricocheted bullet usually winds up being a knife in the back or flame in the face for me.

I just got a 360 and Orange Box was my first purchase.

I've never played an online FPS so I suck royally when I play TF2 but I would love to play with some CAGS who aren't insane like these 14 year olds online.

So add me and I hope to play with some CAGS soon!

Gah. Finding games seems harder than before.

Send me a FR if you play this game ALOT..AKA you ALWAYS place in top 3, but usually 1st or 2nd. If not don't bother.

Hey good job, there, hardhat

We've been pretty quiet lately, but thankfully, that's about to end. In the next few days we'll have an update out that has a couple of new features for the Engineer and Spy, and a variety of other smaller fixes.

 • Teleporters will be upgradeable to level 3. As the teleporter is upgraded, the cooldown will decrease.
 • Dispensers will be upgradeable to level 3. They will heal faster and generate metal faster as they are upgraded.
 • Spies will be able to recharge their cloaking ability by picking up ammo off of the ground.
 • We've made a bunch of minor changes by adding particle systems and upgrading the HUD to show things like deaths by critical hits, players that are overhealed, and giving more information to medics when people are calling for them.
These are just to work on some class balance and depth issues that we've seen in the wild with these two classes, but aren't meant to replace their entire class packs. They will be getting more attention further down the road.

[PIC]

While that's in testing, we're off working on several things that folks have been emailing us about, so we thought it'd be good to provide some detail:

 • The next class pack will be the Scout. One of the main goals we're focusing on for him has been to provide tools that make him useful in maps like Dustbowl & Goldrush. If you have any ideas for what you think would work well, post them over on the Team Fortress 2 Forum and we'll take a look.
 • We are actively working on a massive XBox 360 update, which will include pretty much everything we've shipped on the PC in the last year. We'll provide you with a rough date when we have one.
 • We're also working on bringing over a variety of engine improvements from Left 4 Dead into the TF2 engine, but it won't be a wholesale replacement of the engine. This means we'll get some of L4D's performance improvements, like the better multicore support, but not all of them. For example, we can't bring over some improvements without dropping support for DX8, which we're not prepared to do.
That is going to be one massive update.

Drat, I just goozex'd this away not too long ago. I would keep going through TF2 trying to find a game (on a sunday night no less) and kept coming back with nothing. Since I had already burned through all of the HL's and Portal, it seemed like a good idea at the time.

I don't like spies being able to recharge their cloak by picking up metal. The cloak lasts a perfect amount of time in this game already.

Upgradeable teleporters and dispensers sound good though.

Well when the metal disappears it kind of gives away their position. I just wish they'd fix it so the modders can't screw everything up.

I absolutely love Team Fortress 2. Its a shame that theres almost no one playing it online on 360, but theres still an active fanbase on PC. We should get a new CAG game night going.

Add me on XBL, Im up for a game anytime.

A lot of people play TF2 online on XBL. I was playing at 5 (EST) in the morning and I found a few matches. Everyone playing was foreign...but still...

I am actively playing the game still. I mostly play Dustbowl and Gravel Pit

I just bought about 5 copies of the game for me and for chirstmas presents for my friends. I'm really getting sick of the normal shooters and I'm hoping this one will actually involve some team work.
