The - PERSONA 3 / PERSONA 3 FES - Thread! (FES OUT NOW! $30!)

If I'm not mistaken, there was two different versions of FES released. One was a expansion pack that needed a P3 save and the other was a bundle that came with both.

I'm not sure which if any is coming here.

Hm... interesting. Looks like I'll have to wait until they actually announce something before I decide to keep/get rid of my copy.
 
If anything, I imagine they'll release a 2-disc game that comes with Persona 3 and FES. The only thing that will really set it apart from what we've already got is the artbox, case, and soundtrack.

That's the pessimist in me. Of course I'd love to see Atlus open up the option of purchasing just FES - even if it's only through them. I think that'd be the way to go. It'd be even better if they could send it in a 2-disc PS2 case that can be swapped with the one we currently have.

Why not keep your original in case it turns out to be valuable later on down the road? You can sell it right now for what you paid for it; I'd imagine it could become worth even more later.

Well, if FES comes here and it includes Persona 3 as well... then I doubt Persona 3 will retain any value. Unless Atlus decides to not include the Persona 3 artbook/slipbox with FES... then maybe it won't matter.

It would just be pointless as FES has the full Persona 3.

I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult for Atlus to fix FES up so that it doesn't require the original game to boot up. The question is WILL they do it.

If they want to make fans happy by maintaining the value of the collectors edition AND making Persona 3 easily accessible, then they'll have to release both the append disc and the full set.
 
The only problem with Fes is that I have to replay the whole damn game, and I spent well over 60 hours on it. And the new stuff will add even more time. So that means I probably won't get it, or I'll get it, but not play it for a few years at least.
 
They'll probably repress a standalone Persona 3 and then FES will be included as a bonus disc.

Real fans will be happy, newcomers will be happy.

There is a version of FES that doesnt need the original Persona 3, so they dont need to do anything
Somehow I dont see atlus releasing both version to make it more confusing. It is going to be append or full.

Aside from the fact that Atlus said they wont be reprinting games.

It looks like people still dont get it, but FES contains the expansion and the director's cut version of Persona 3. So it make zero sense to have 2 disc.

well you could use P3 save data for FES

Why are people worrying about it? It's coming out and it definitely won't be an expansion pack-like situation.

They don't want to diminish their target audience.

I'm just asking because I already bought Persona 3 when it originall came out (lets call it the non-FES Persona 3). If FES includes Persona 3 again, then I see no reason in keeping the original Persona 3 I have. Seems kinda pointless to own two copies of the same game.

But I can also see why they'd just release FES as the non-FES Persona 3 + the expansions as some people might not have non-FES Persona 3.

This is the one thing that could drive down the price of the original Persona 3. More than a few people will be thinking of selling their P3 to cover the cost of FES.

Well yeah. But don't you have to replay the whole game over again anyway for some of the new stuff?

EDIT: Well, I guess this wouldn't be too much of a problem if New Game+ carries over to Fes. Anyone know if it does?

If you mean to use the old data for the director's cut version of Persona 3 in FES, yes. If you mean the new expansion, then no as you start out as a certain level.
 
If you have to replay Persona 3 to do FES, I'm out. I've played for 150 hours and I'm still only in mid-November in-game.
 
I'd play it again for FES. I wasn't able to max all of my social links or fuse all of the personas, so I was going to do a second play through anyway.

like i said before the expansion does not use any save date, so you dont have to replay anything.
 
FES isn't just Episode Aegis, but also the extended version of Episode Yourself. Waiting for FES for a second play through is a good idea as there is the addition of costumes, persona, and gameplay content.

We get the idea that you can't transfer data from Episode Yourself to Episode Aegis.

See, it's a bummer for me that they added more "quests and events" (to quote Wikipedia) to the main game with the Fes release, because when it's all said and done, my game is going to end up being 200+ hours. I go to Tartarus every other night (in-game) and play until my character is tired; might as well, because anything else would be a waste of an opportunity to level and collect Persona.

As much as I enjoy the game (I've never played a game for this long, not even Dragon Quest 8), when I'm done with this I'm DONE, except for Fes. 200 hours is a lot of time when you only get to game one or two hours a day (or none). So to hear that there's another version with more content is like an slap in the face, because there's no way I'm putting another 3 or 4 months of my life into the same repetitive game.

I don't know, maybe I'm playing the game wrong. I'm sure I could squeeze by not going to Tartarus for 2 or 3 hours every single time my character isn't tired, but it seems like a waste not to. These damned Persona are like Pokemon, I tell you.

I have no problems level up in Tartarus. Go there one day before the full moon; in that time frame (AKA endless nights) your character never gets tired or fatigue. The programs did that so you won't get screw yourself like being under leveled or having weak persona's during the boss on full moon periods. I easily max out my education with late night studies


My biggest beef with this game is you can't skip days till the full moon. It almost as bad as the dead rising timer, you have to waste your time doing meaningless side mission to make the time fly by or leave the system on. If the dating aspect isn't your cup of tea, there isn't much to do in meantime beside Tartarus.
 
I also spent alot of time playing Persona 3 and I have no desire to play through it again. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed the game but oonce is enough for me.

If I didn't go to Tartaus at least twice a week I felt like I wasn't playing the game properly. But don't worry Vegan, once you get to the final hidden dungeon your characters will level up like crazy. Took me only 45 minutes to max out all my characters to level 99.
 
wow 920 posts and still going on this game, I got to like the 5 or so main boss and then got killed by some cheap monster in the tower and have yet to go back to the game. Well maybe sometime I will restart it...

I like the side missions. Really helps to break-up the levelling. But I see your point-if you DON'T like them, then you probably won't stick with this game. I'm only in August (almost done with summer break), and have about 38 hours in and am at the gate on floor 114 waiting for the next full moon. I don't get alot of gaming time but I'm still enjoying it when I play.

At this rate I project I'll be done and ready for FES sometime in 2011. :D

I ran through the game twice, mainly to max all of the s-links at least once. I loved the game from start to finish, but can definitely empathize with those who find it repetitive.

As far as Tartarus is concerned, I usually went the first night after the full moon that it became available and climbed as high as I could go. Rarely did I have any problems with growing tired. Honestly, I found this game on the easy side.

That said, I am looking forward to playing through it again with the bonus content and Episode Aegis. I put in a total of 115 hours over both playthroughs. I was at level 93 my first playthrough.
 
do your levels carry over with the new game+? I know the persona's do, but it would make me more likely to play it through again if i already start at my high level so that the first couple of months i can just focus on social links and fusing.
 
Levels carry over for the main character only. Special items that you were given from maxing S-links also carry over as does the Persona compendium. Money carries over. I don't recall if anything else does, but because your level carries over you can buy most of the really good equipment from the police station.

Elizabeth's requests do not carry over. Monad is available when you first go to Tartarus.

What's cool is watching your level 1 characters (provided you can keep them alive) jump 30 levels after the first Monad fight. Just remember to upgrade your Persona before you go into Monad if you want to do any damage at all.
 
For those of you who played through this and maybe othe SMT games, I was wondering. I have SMT: DDS 1 and SMT: Devil Summoner, I also have Persona 3 which one should I play through first/ which one is the best/ or does it not matter. Any advice would be helpful.

Persona 3, IMO, is the easiest to get into and also the best. I do recommend getting Nocturne, but it is much more difficult than Persona 3.
 
Of the SMT games, Nocturne is the only one I haven't played. Persona 3 would be my favorite of the remaining.

Digital Devil Saga was okay. The first game was mediocre IMO. There wasn't enough story (though what was there was great), it was too short, and it lacked challenge. As with any SMT game, if you exploit weaknesses you'll rarely have a problem. It felt like I was playing FFX if American McGee had directed it.

Digital Devil Saga 2 was another game entirely. There was more depth to the game. It felt more edgy than the first. The story was more fleshed out. However, you really must play the first game to develop a relationship with/understand the characters in order to fully appreciate the game. I clocked a total of 54 hours between both games to beat them.

Persona 3 is another animal entirely. You will get spurts of the main story, but mostly be assaulted with (and usually lost in) all of the little day-to-day drama. The story in Persona 3 is my favorite of any RPG this last year. It is very well designed and directed, but admittedly can grow tedious if you are looking to progress through the game quickly. In other words, the game has its own pace and there is little you can do to speed it up or slow it down.

Devil Summoner feels like a cross between .hack and Shadow Hearts, but with an SMT flair. I haven't gotten far enough in the game to have much of an opinion on it though.
 
The first episode was alright; I guess I can't expect the anime to play out like the game. Hopefully it gets better. Looks like Mitsuru may make a cameo from what's been shown so far.

I loved DDS2.
I can't bring myself to beat it.
It's been 2 years since I got it.
I haven't beaten Nocturne, either ^^;;
I'm hopin P3 will be the one to lead me to beat all the other ones. DDS1 is the only other SMT game I;ve beaten.
 
I don't know how far I should watch the anime without spoiling myself the game story. I'm about half way through with the game, but stopped because my housemates are hogging the PS2. I would definitely enjoy seeing the characters from the game appearing in the anime though.

As for the anime, I like the animation and appealing to my taste.

Don't know how long the series is. Can't find info for it.
 
I just can't watch anime anymore. About 10 - 15 years ago I loved anything anime, now I just can't stand it. It makes my brain hurt.

I'm kind of that way too. The problem is most anime nowadays sucks ass.

True, I've tried getting back into it, but it's all just so bad. About the only thing I really enjoy is Crayon Shin-Chan.

Years ago I would've been excited to see a Persona anime. But now I could care less. I'm just jaded. Which reminds me, I remember this on Persona 2:

Watching a Persona anime leaves me a weird taste.

Just like Xenosaga. Love the video game, but couldn't get into the anime.
 
At least the Persona anime has better production values than the Xenosaga anime.

I'm glad they're not simply retelling the story of any of the games, but I too am having a bit of difficulty getting into it.
 
Hey guys,
I bought this game at BestBuy at regular price today, due to the fact that I can't find it anywhere. Is this game gonna be rare or is Atlus dragging their feet on supplies?
 
The game is out of print per Amazon, so don't expect any new copies to mystically appear (unless EB is sitting on them in their warehouse).

Ebay prices for a used set are higher than retail if that tells you anything.
