The psychology of this generation.
There is an option to turn off pop-ups. But it kills all of them, not just achievements (friends singing on, invites, message notifications etc.).
I think I saw that option a while back and I was tempted to click it all OFF, though I would miss all of the spam messages I get on PSN then. Oh the travesty of missing out on seeing 'enter the following PSN card # to get $50, then forward this to everybody and their uncle' every day at least once.:whistle2:#:booty:

But if it'd stop the silly trophy popups I may have to forgo my spam flooded inbox notifications to get rid of the trophy crap.

There is a 'notification messages' function that you can turn on and off on the PS3, however it ONLY covers messages on PSN from friends and tells you when they're on or offline.

I love trophies and chievos. They are a completionist's wet dream. Those hours and hours I spent getting every date scenario in FF7? If the game came out today I'd get a little trophy as an added bonus to commemorate the event. Woot.

Much like Ivan Drago, I get trophies and chievos for me. FOR ME!! I couldn't care less if someone online is impressed or not with my score or count. I get satisfaction out of beating a game to its full state, and trophies/chievos are just an added part of that.

Thank you :)

Same here... I just realized that it's not the trophy/achievement that I'm addicted to, but rather the process of unlocking them!

That's right! The various methods, tricks, codes, cheats etc... It fascinates me how some people find those tricks. Well, the PS Button "pause" trick is the oldest one in the book. But there are tons of other neat tricks, like playing easy and just switch to HARD on the last chapter in Transformer:WFC.

See, the experience of unlocking a platinum trophy is very satisfying/rewarding, there's so much to talk about (not that people care, but with another fellow trophy/achievement hunter, the conversation can go on and on).

Unlocking trophy/achievement is not the key, but it's all in HOW YOU DO IT. Of course, not all trophies/achievements are memorable. Hence the hunting of platinum trophies require you to collect all trophies, which you're bounded to encounter one or two anal ones. This also include the fact that you have to take the shortest method to unlock everything (because there are too many games to play).
