As I read this, I was like WTF?! Is it me, or are some people in this country really acting like pussies. I thought this country was created by telling King George to go fist himself. Then we dumped his tea, killed a few soldiers and live in the freedom we live in today. The forefathers didn't say "sorry king George. We'll pay your crazy taxes and live as if nothing wrong is happening." This PC shit is getting out of hand.

PS-I am hispanic, and my wife is Puerto Rican. Even she said this was bullshit. She knows "spic" is derogatory for puerto ricans. But Porkchop?! Read the damn article to see what I mean. I can't even rant properly.
 
What the hell kind of regional slang is "porkchop"? That's frickin' stupid. I sure hope the Philadelphia Eagles never sign Seattle Seahawks offensive lineman Porkchop Womack.
 
It's funny, in a blog about overreach of offensive speech, many of the comments were edited for being offensive.
 
Apparently, the IronPigs received “several complaints” from local residents that “PorkChop” is a derogatory term used for Puerto Ricans in the area. So the team caved and changed the name.

I had no idea I went to college with a bunch of porkchops on the baseball team...
 
yeah, i saw this story earlier in the weak and its completely ridiculous. thats how america is nowadays, you cand offend anybody.
 
If you want a good idea of how badly the US is trying to be PC with everything, take a listen to George Carlin's skit on the euphemisms used in war.

Then take a look at the statistics for suicides in each states, sorted by soliders coming home from the Iraq War. The quote I received was:

"In 2005, taking data from 45 of 50 states, over 6,500 Iraq War veterans committed suicide." All sufferers of "Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder" or some other PC bullshit syndrome originally known as "ShellShock".

All PC does is give everyone a good excuse to cover shit up.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is a psychological disorder (which is extreme stress that comes after a trauma - hence post-traumatic stress) first defined in 1980 in the DSM-III. "ShellShock" was just a term given to it after WWI, other terms were used before and after (until 1980).

It doesn't only cover people after wars, it's also given to people who undergo severe traumas (Rape, other sexual abuse, natural disasters, etc.) and end up with similar symptoms. Is it PC to define disorders?

Just off the top of my head are ADHD(Attention/hyperactivity), ADD(attention deficit), IE (emotionally impaired), LCL (low confidence learners), PDD (pervasive development), and the kicker - PDDNOS (pervasive development disorder not otherwise specified) etc.

Just because something has an official sounding name doesn't mean it's an real disorder. Many times people are diagnosed by default, meaning they show some symptoms of anti social behavior (which used to be call being an asshole when I was younger) and are grouped into an all inclusive acronym so that everyone can feel better about treating him differently, or in some cases, demand that their child be treated differently. It's basically used as a classification of idiots to excuse their abhorrent behavior and used like a crutch, instead of a tool to help them.

Yes, yes, I know there are truly mentally fucked up people. They deserve their labels, they've earned them. I'm just saying that today we have too many badges in circulation waiting to get pinned on someone to make them special.

They are real disorders, by the definition of the word disorder. If their behavior displays the symptoms of a defined disorder, the person is said to have that disorder, otherwise there's no point in naming a disorder. Sometimes people are badly diagnosed, but that's not the fault of the fact that there is a defined disorder.
 
The first time I heard that phrase "Pussification of the US" was a couple days ago on a radio show called BTLS... which stands for "Bubba the Love Sponge". I found it a little contradictory that a guy who calls himself "Love Sponge" would criticize our country of such a thing. But he's a local boy, and good friends with the Hulkmeister... so i'll let it slide.

Anyways, I'm half PR, and the closet thing I've ever heard to that is when Mexicans are called Beaners. Ok... so we got the PR's representing the Porkchop, Mexicans representing the Beans, sooooo.... who represents the rice???
Cubans??? Nah... I hate yellow rice.
Let's get some Asians in the mix... I want some fried rice! :D

Eh, "spic" is a catch-all for Latinos, unless you're the dark-skinned Dominican Republic (or Puerto Rican) variety. There are, undoubtedly, others. IIRC, something like "wetback" also?

Now, while this individual case (and also in the recent case in Cincinnati of the NAACP trying to shut down a high school performance of Agatha Christie's "Ten Little Indians") suggests that too much protectionism/censorship is absurd, I don't see that it makes any case at all for any and all "PC" language being absurd.

Pretty sure you can't. My dad got in trouble at his office back in the early 90's when some fat lady was walking through the parking lot and taking forever to do so. My dad had to stop and wait, and eventually he honked his horn coz it was getting ridiculous, and she said "go around," to which he replied "I only have a half tank of gas."

So... I don't think making fun of fat people would go over much better today.

On topic: I think this is ridiculous. It's very clear that the name wasn't chosen to insult Puerto Ricans.
I'm not sure how common of a slur "pork chop" is, but I've never heard of it.

That is actually, very funny. My wife had a good chuckle with that one. It's like when Al Bundy insulted a fat lady at the shoe store and she says that he will hear from her lawyer. He replies in Bundy fashion... " will that be from the law offices of Haggen and Daaz!" ROFL! If only I could find that clip on YouTube.
As for insults, I spoke to a few PR friends that live in Allentown and they have never heard that term in their neck of the woods. I'm sure it wouldn't be smart considering how hood their part of Allentown is.
 
Allentown is around 25% Hispanic which I'm sure played a part in it since they figured it would hurt attendance.

Political correctness is ruining this country, and it has got to stop.
 
This reminds me of a story I heard about a school stopping their kids from running on the playground during recess. This resulted in 50% less scrapes and bruises in the student pop. (

Yeah, I don't know if it's the lack of Puerto Ricans up here (I've never seen one, don't really believe they exist :p) , but Pork Chop has always referred to Portuguese people (or Pork'n'Cheese).

That's a gross over-simplification. ADHD and ADD are actual disorders; the problem lies in an overdiagnosis based on shaky parental evidence, i.e, "he runs around a lot" (which, in my day, was called 'being a kid.') This kind of attitude that "it's all a bunch of PC bullshit" is what makes other, life-threatening psychological disorders go undiagnosed.

If you want to talk about psychology and be taken seriously, then I highly suggest you learn what the hell you're talking about before opening your mouth.

As for the Op's post, all I can say is, lawlz. Porkchop? A racial slur? Wow.

Policies today are too damn protective, both of feelings and of physical harm.
