The Randy "The Ram" Robinson Wrestling Thread
-Final four is one main event level babyface (unsure who... Trips seems obvious), and Legacy.
-Babyface eliminates DiBiase & Rhodes but gets tossed by Orton for the win.
Woot... what do I win?

They should have at least had one more match for the PPV to last until 11. I am glad they didn't let HHH win but this push for Orton is going to be silly.

Overall, this was a HORRIBLE Royal Rumble match.

** only for the athletic near-eliminations and a couple cool spots centered around the RKO.

The best Royal Rumbles have a decent central-storyline to them.

1992: Flair draws bad number, but won't get eliminated

2001: Kane tosses everyone, nobody has an answer to him.

2004: Chris Benoit adapts to every situation to avoid elimination.

Those are the three GREAT Rumble Matches.

This year was an abomination. Too many guys in the ring at one time. I think when Pig Shit entered there were close to half the guys still in the match. It might as well be a regular battle royal at that point. Nobody sold injuries, there was no central theme through-out. Even the Legacy didn't come together until the at the end.

And there was no Diesel moment. Nobody got over this Royal Rumble. Not a single new star was made.

Horrible.

*EDITED TO REMOVE MY OWN STUPIDITY*

So any predictions for the elimination chamber lineups?

Raw: Cena, HBK, JBL, Jericho, ???, ??? (maybe Orton being forced to cash in his title shot early)

Smackdown: Edge,Matt Hardy, Jeff Hardy, Triple H, Show, Undertaker

Pretty epic Rumble match. liked how it got really crowded towards the end, and I especially loved the ending. It's a shame we got to sit through ANOTHER Cena / Orton matchup :whistle2:/ Hopefully someone wins the strap at NWO, but bloody likely.

So "The 25th Anniversary of WM" is looking like:

Cena Vs Orton XII
Edge Vs HHH VII
Matt Vs Jeff III
Big Show Vs Undertaker XXIII

WM25: Night of Rematches.

Oh dear god I hope Hardy vs. Hardy is better than that random resthold filled match they had during that first breakup that didn't take.

"Pretty Epic Rumble"

Are you serious?

Jesus, nobody has any standards for the Royal Rumble. The only ones I would rank below this one in terms of how crappy it can get are 1991, 1993, 1994, 1998 and 1999.

This was a terrible Royal Rumble.

Oh wait I forgot, the brand that didn't have the Royal Rumble winner had the Elimination Chamber be a #1 contenders match. So maybe we'll get Edge vs. H a month early

*wait i screwed that up again, they were both for the number 1 contender spot last year?*

I don't think we're going to get straight Hardy vs. Hardy. I sort of liked the idea that was bandied about, with it ending up being a feud with Jeff/Christian vs. Edge/Matt. On that note, until Matt turned and that was brought up, I never once thought of bringing Christian in as a face.

Anyway, this is an interesting run up to WM, since it all seems so damn obvious. Edge/HHH, Orton/Cena. I mean, who else is there? JBL? Show? Michaels? None of these are guys that are going to be thrown into WM main events unless they have to be (see: Michaels/Cena). I'm still pulling for Michaels/Taker.

I'll be interested to see the card and then guess how Batista *not* being on the shelf would've changed it. If anything, I always assumed the idea was to do Cena/Batista II at WM25, not necessarily for the title.

Maybe the Legacy will fill out the last 2 spots on Raw. Either that or Regal / Kane / Mysterio or whatever upper-midcarder they got

Okay, now that I looked things up, if its like last year there will be 2 elimination chambers for number 1 contender, and 2 title matches.

However i can't see them pulling the "I don't want to wait until Wrestlemania" with Orton/Cena again (but reversed).

Kane's good filler in the "not gonna win but the kids believe he's a threat" category.

Raw's title match: Cena, JBL, HBK, Y2J, Punk, Kane.

SD's #1 contender match: Triple H, Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, Undertaker, Big Show, Kozlov.

I would say that's about as accurate as one could guess.

Of course, this means the champions have the night off.

Or they could make it a tag match...

Orton/Priceless vs. Edge/Chavo/Matt... that is assuming they continue with the "Orton as a tweener" gimmick all the way through Wrestlemania.

I would hope they are going to extend the Punk/Regal feud to at least No Way Out, just to see if they coudl top how brutal they were in their match on Raw
Well I was right on 2 of the 3 predictions I made.

Right:
-Orton winning.
-RVD returning.
Yeah, nice prediction there... If only I hadn't announced it here an hour earler!
Does RVD returning even count since it was all over the place today that he was at the arena
Hell, I was chatting with my friends and I called it last night.

Friends: Who's the surprise entry?
Me: I don't know know... where are they, Detroit?
Friends: Yeah
Me: Sheik is still dead, right?
Friends: Uh... yeah.
Me: Then Rob Van Dam.

I figured Umaga would be #30 and would eliminate Undertaker.

Oh goody, now we get Pig Shit vs. Undertaker at Wrestlemania. Gee wiz, wonder who wins that one.

You know what the problem with Pig Shit's BIG PUNCH is? It's too slow! Good lord, if this was boxing you could check into a hotel room and eat a full continental breakfast before having to worry about dodging that thing. It SUCKS!
Yeah, nice prediction there... If only I hadn't announced it here an hour earler!

I didn't see the ones you made. Oh well..... its all in good fun.

Meltzer:
Mickey Rourke at the SAG Awards tonight said he'd talked to Vince McMahon and that he would be at WrestleMania, and that he is coming for Chris Jericho. Thanks to everyone who wrote in with confirmation.

...what?
Meltzer:

...what?
Rourke with Agent

"Kane?"

"Too big."

"Mysterio?"

"Too small"

"Umaga?"

"Too fat."

"CM Punk?"

"Too Goody Two Shoes"

"Jericho"

"Perfect!"

Better Rourke than another Mayweather/Show kinda match. At least WWE will be contemporary pop culture, instead of 6 months to 3 years behind.

But if he's announced as Rourke and not "The Ram," then fuck it.

I have no problem with Orton winning but he really needs a new gimmick. All he does is huff and puff and get in people's faces while he's all sweaty. It's the most retarded thing I have ever seen. It's bad enough I'm watching half naked guys in underwear pretend to beat each other up. They don't need to add on to it. Orton and Cena is going to suck. I wish they would just turn Cena heel or he would tear a quad so we don't have to see the same predictable stuff for at least a full year.

I liked RVD's entrance. The Matt Hardy thing was pretty cool. I'm looking forward to how it develops.

"WWE Universe (ugh), please welcome Robin--"

"Call me Randy!"

Hopefully someone will talk him out of going. It would be a huge hit to his recently regained credibility.

It's practically an Internet cliche now, but I can't help but wonder if they're dabbling with the idea of a Cena heel turn at this point. Orton vs. Cena almost seems like it's set up for a double turn. Given how split the crowd usually is with Cena, they tend to go out of their way to make his opponents super-heelish. But Orton's been painted as more of a dominant badass lately.

Also, for as much as they relentlessly shill Cena, Raw seems to actually be "about" Orton a lot more. Heck, Cena's own title match wasn't "about" Cena this month. It just seems odd... it's like Orton's been painted as the real star of the show lately.

One has to wonder what WWE gains from cross-promoting with The Wrestler. Sure they gain the usual "WRESTLEMANIA IS SO BIG, EVEN CELEB'S JOIN IN" advertising stuff. However, the now kid-friendly WWE is advocating a movie that's not only raunchy and very adult-only, but heavily exposes the business too.

Might as well have John Cena come out before every show to remind the kiddies that everything they see is heavily scripted and in no way real (outside of the whole "the pain and injuries are real" part).

Plus, the only thing WWE has in common with The Wrestler is that parts of both take place in a ring. It's the complete opposite of Vince's product and shows everything he would prefer nobody know about. However, since there is the possibility of money to me made he's all in. If Vince produced this movie it would have been called The Superstar or whatever he calls his employees independent contractors this month.

Rourke is getting buzz and Vince doesn't have a celebrity for WM yet. This may, however, show how desperate he is... I mean, it's WrestleMania 25, and the best he's done so far is Mickey Rourke. C'mon.

Point is, Vince likes money and I assume that since he'd be asked about The Wrestler anyway, he might as well get buddy-buddy with it, regardless of whether he agrees with the film or not.

Any word on if RVD's return was a one shot like expected or a full time? ETA on the beginning of the angle with Rourke? Trying to come up with some good sign ideas yet again for the show tonight.

On a related note, someone in WWE must really like RVD because they've really put him over for both of his surprise returns.

No one finds it weird that Matt Hardy turns on Jeff to align himself with Edge, the same guy he had a blood feud with a few years back?

Well, that depends on whether or not Matt 'aligns' himself with Edge. It's sort of the point that Orton made about Jericho one time... just because both are heel doesn't mean they automatically get along.

They definitely tried to play up the fact that Edge and Vickie seemed to be shocked, too, so they may be playing it that way. It'll be interesting to see where it goes from here.

It's supposedly a one-time thing. Although, I'd guess that it's a decision made by Rob as the WWE would probably take him back for a longer run if he wanted.

I was thinking about that last night after it happened. Either the whole situation back then was the best worked shoot ever, or Matt Hardy is the biggest company man in WWE history.

On the Ring of Honor TV Deal

HDNet today announced the contract has been signed for a long-term television deal with Ring of Honor.

The announcement only stated it would be a weekly television show, and included a quote from HDNet owner Mark Cuban, stating, "Ring of Honor is an exciting addition to our programming lineup at HDNet. ROH has developed a cult following thanks to its special brand of professional wrestling and we are pleased to present it for the first time to a mass television audience.

"Ring of Honor is proud and excited to enter a partnershi with HDNet," said ROH owner Cary Silkin. "Our in-ring action is the perfect compliment to HDNet's respected programming and growing stature in the broadcast industry. It's a match most definitely made for a main event."

I'm interested to see if they get a decent venue and some production values. Nothing worse then a foggy, cheaply produced wrestling show. I hope they can at least show TNA type production values.

RVD's return was a one time thing but he's welcome back at any time.. I heard somewhere his wife has cancer and he would (understandably) rather be with her.

//edit: Matt's just a company man.

But it'll be in HD. So, yeah, that's something. You can see the detail on the fat kids' Pantera t-shirts in the stands, then, I guess.
