Royal Rumble is tonight thus starting the tradition of "The Road to Wrestlemania." To celebrate this tradition, here are some "outstanding Wrestlemania moments of the past to get you in the mood.

Lets begin with fat men in diapers at Wrestlemania, because everyone wants to see Big Shows bare ass!!

Possibly one of the biggest Wrestlemania moments in the early years. Possibly the biggest one until the Shawn Micheals/Undertaker matches.

And finally, for all of you Diva lovers, the first ever Miss Wrestlemania 25 Woman over the top rope battle royal, won by a surprise contestant!!

Wow, WWE signed Mistico.

Mistico of CMLL, who led Arena Mexico to one of its biggest boom periods in history, was reported by Super Luchas magazine today as signing with WWE.

Mistico had been unhappy with CMLL of late. The promotion had fallen greatly in the last six months and was no longer catering to him as they had over the past five years. He had secret talks of late with both WWE and AAA. WWE had made plays for him in the past. Still, this is a risky move given his size, and that the WWE mentality is the belief Luchadores don't know how to work. On the flip side, WWE is more popular in Mexico than anywhere else, and they recognize Rey Mysterio won't be around forever and feel the need for someone in that role.

Mistico is one of the bigger drawing cards in pro wrestling history. Based on headlining the most shows that drew more than 10,000 fans, Mistico was the biggest drawing card in wrestling overall three different years, and in the last six years, he was always either first or tied for first among non-WWE performers, and is the only Luchador in history to win the Wrestling Observer's Wrestler of the Year Award, winning in 2006.

With news like that, I really wish WWE would start to highlight some of the smaller guys and bring back the Cruiserweight Title. As it stands now, I think he'd just get squandered outside the telegraphed Mysterio/Del Rio feud.
Memorial thread? Why not just "The Road to Wrestlemania Wrestling Thread"?
I was thinking the same thing, also, guys, enjoy it tonight. A few friends and I are chipping in 10 a piece and ordering it. Beer, wings, pizza, and wrasslin' should make for a good night.
Run. Far away.
I don't know what to tell you.

My plan right now I'm thinking is to show up at the party, spend an hour or two there and then take off citing either not feeling well or more homework to work on. The party starts at 7ish, same as the Rumble. If I can get back home by 9 I should be able to catch most of the Rumble itself (which I believe is the main event?) and I'm really hoping they save the "surprises" for the later part of the Rumble.

Because, it's about sharing your Wrestlemania and/or road to Wrestmania memories. Hence the memorial. Also because the traditional "Raod to Wrestlemania" is long since dead. The phrase was coined back when there were the big 4 pay per views. Now, if you honestly think about it, from the rumble the road goes to another ppv , then from that ppv to Wrestlemania. Therefor, it has kind of ruined the major push from the results of the Royal Rumble due to the winner sometimes losing thier opportunity at Elimination Chamber.

That and Since you can use spoiler tags in the thread title, it killed my idea of "The Inaguaral Royal Rumble

of

Wrestling Thread."
WWE PPVs start at 8PM, unless it's Wrestlemania...or, I suppose, if you live in CST.
Yep, I'm central time.

I like how they exaggerated Hogan and Andre's heights in that match. Andre was just over 7 feet tall, not 7ft 5in.

So I decided to watch the Rumble with my cousin tonight. I'm beginning to think this was a terrible idea. I knew going into this weekend to stay away from the dirtsheets and not read any spoilers in the wrestling thread here. I've been tempted but so far I know nothing about surprise entrants for once. This is nice. First thing as I'm walking in he wants to talk about what he read online. He was trying to drop hints for a while but he decided he best stop. For his own health, it was the best idea. Dude has a compulsion to talk about it. I really hope these are good because dude is fidgeting.

I don't know why, but I have this bad feeling they are going to have Miz lose the belt to Orton and later that night have him end up winning the Rumble match.

As long as they don't do that or have Cena remind people that we're watching a PG show (Are we suppose to laugh everytime Cena reminds us?) then this should be a good PPV.

BTW, is there any chance of Jericho showing up tonight?

Agreed. I give this thread title a C.

doubtful. He seems to have moved on and is concentrating on Fozzy/book

It's really not going to happen, but I would buy Wrestlemania in a heartbeat if
Brock Lesnar showed up tonight and F-5'd the shit out of Yoshi Tatsu and Zack Ryder.

Huh-uh, Cole.

Ran across this.. will probably be buying this day one:

The official preview for WWE The WrestleMania Story has been released below:

"It is the most anticipated yearly event in Sports Entertainment, an annual pop culture touch point. For more than 25 years, WrestleMania has hosted the biggest matches, the biggest stars, and the biggest celebrities.

Now for the first time ever, the story of WrestleMania is told from its early beginnings through the week-long spectacular it has become, routinely drawing fans from all 50 states and around the world. This documentary feature includes new and insightful interviews from the superstars and creative forces behind the event."

The DVD is to be released as a two-disc Bluray set on March 15th, 2011.

They did a "coffee tables" style-book like that many years ago (I thnk it went up to WM 16/"2000"). It did have the corporate WWF feel to it at times (like how they moved Wrestlemania 7 to a smaller arena supposedly due to "threats on Sgt Slaughter's life" rather than the fact tickets weren't selling), but it was still a very interesting read and had some great pictures.

You can get a used copy for peanuts. Definitely recommended just for the pictures alone.

One of the Apter mags this month has a chapter from Jericho's new book. It was really great, right on par with his first book. It detailed his first few shaky months after his WWF debut segment (learning to work how WWE wanted, Vince's disappointment, etc). Can't wait for the book to come out...one of the few I'll probably buy while it's still in hardcover.

Will do.

My RR predictions:

RR winner = Alberto Del Rio
Miz/Orton = Orton
Edge/Ziggler = Ziggler
Diva's Match = Bathroom break

Asked a buddy if he wanted to order the Rumble tonight, but I just realized it was $55.00 ... fuck that. Prices like that are why I've never paid for a PPV viewing.. rather let my friends waste the money.
u verse is 45 but still way to damn high
He's got U-Verse, told me it was $55... maybe he was mistaken. Still, that's fucking insane. I think they'd make a killing if they reduced the prices to $29.95 or so, but I know that's just wishfool thinking.

Could be the SD/HD price discrepancy?

Final Rumble spoiler:

According to Alex Riley and Wade Barrett's Facebook pages, another surprise entrant in tonight's Royal Rumble match will be Charles Wright (formerly Papa Shango and The Godfather).

Good choice for an opener...there's only this, the divas and Miz/Orton right before the Rumble right? Might as well start with something that the crowd will care about.

This.

Wow. I had no idea there were only three matches and the Rumble tonight. That's insane. Isn't there usually 5 or 6 matches? I guess it's because there's 40 men in the Rumble. It'll probably be Edge/Ziggler, the Divas match, the Rumble, then Miz/Orton.

The Rumble is just about always the last match. Hopefully tonight will be no different.

it is sickining when you think about how much they make one these ppv's. at 45 a shot curley a million or two will watch, add in all the high price ticket sales concessions merchandise etc and that is one hell of a payday. and they do it monthly.

Prediction: Dolph loses. He's going through "the Jeff Hardy treatment". WHC match at the Royal Rumble, he'll lose tonight but he'll be champ by July.
Forgive me, but is there a reason why Ziggler's tights have the DZ backwards?
I noticed that too. That's really odd.
