The Simpsons Seasons question

I used to be a huge Simpson fans, watching all aired episodes. I stoped laughing around season 10. This show getting old with it's recycle materials, squeezing celeberities in each episode and outragous stories that keep jump from place to place. Not to mention, many of the previous writers are gone. Matt have very little involvement in Simpson like he used to.

Now I prefer Southpark or Family Guy over Simpson.

I still enjoy them today. People complain that it became generic and there was no character expansion, but how much more can you expand a character after 200 episodes.

The problem is that it shouldn't have even dragged on for 18 seasons to begin with.

The Simpsons get better the more times you watch the episodes. I remember when seasons 5 and 6 were airing and everyone was saying they weren't even close to seasons 3 and 4 in terms of quality. I've been paying less attention the last 5 years or so but I usually laugh when I watch and even repeats from seasons 10+ keep getting better and better.

I don't laugh anymore. Each episode gets maybe 1 or 2.

Stop at Season 10.
I'm a sucker and would still buy the rest just for completists' sake.

I also enjoy them all. I can see where people are coming from with the complaints about the show today, but I don't think it's a poor show by any means.

I'll be buying the season sets until they stop producing them.

It's not a poor show, but it does feel stale in the later seasons.

That's why Futurama is great: It's the simpsons, except with a fresh setting and characters.

As long as i enjoy it, I hope they go to 30 seasons ;)

I think the show is still fine, this past season was the first time I have ever thought that it was past its prime. Thing is people say season 10 but then they start to think about some random episodes and find put they were from season 14. If you want to know that last good season for every ep than I would say 7 maybe 8 but there are plenty of awesome episodes later on.

The show's run out of steam to the point where basically almost all the gags depend on getting laughs from fans from Homer getting hurt or doing something stupid. At this point, The Simpsons has infact done everything and has even admitted this in a clipshow episode before.

With Futurama, it at least had a damn story and some continuation as well as none of the story being dependant on Bender being a criminal or Fry being an idiot (the Giant Brains being an exception).
Season 9 is where it most definately jumped the shark. The 2 Principal Skinners episode was the one.
I completely agree. I remember when that episode first aired, it was the first time I was like wtf?!? I still watch the show but it lacks any emotional feelings behind the characters.

It's almost sad how terrible the show is today compared to the classic early episodes. Seasons 1-8 are all worth owning and it gets progressively worse after that.

S11-13 are considered the worst in the series.

S14 - 17 are not bad, each season has increased quality and most episodes are good.

The same could be said about One Piece, but that's neither here nor there.

Seasons 1 - 9 are great, I own them and watch them regularly. As it's already been said, the show takes a turn for the worse around 13 (imagine that!).

I need to pick 2 seasons to buy at Best Buy today. I read numerous reviews at Amazon.com and most people say that Seasons 3 and 4 were the best. Can anyone confirm this?

anyone have any idea which season has the episode where homer and lisa break into a museum and then hears some melody from some egyptian device

Get 3 and 7, those are definitely the best

However, you might want to consider buying them in order. I never watched them that often on TV so when I bought each one on DVD it was fun seeing how the show evolved. Really you should get seasons 1-8 right now, I watch them over and over again, they never get old.

If the "rock and a hard place" joke appeals to you, then you'll like it.

I think 7 and 8 are the best, since getting each of those I've watched them each about once a month. Some of my absolute favorite episodes are from those two including:
"Who Shot Mr. Burns Part II", "You Only Move Twice", "Lisa the Vegetarian", "The Springfield Files"

The series got better and better up until Season 8. I still think the series is great and has some newer episodes that are nearly as funny as the ones in those seasons, but it's not as consistently funny anymore.
I find the Simpsons awsome throughout all of the seasons. There really hasn't been a decline at all.
Agreed.

10 is pretty awesome, 11 has the grease-smuggling and Tomacco episodes, I think killing Maude Flanders was the true shark-jump. 12 does have the crayon lodged in Homer's brain, but 13 doesn't have shit. I think it's when Al Jean took over as executive producer that everything went downhill.

There is only so much you can do with the traditional family setting, even in a cartoon. Futurama had limtless possibilities for stories due to the fact it was in the future, had alien races, planets, time travel...there is just so much more to work with.

That being said, I enjoy The Simpsons still, but not nearly as much as re-runs of Futurama.

9 was the peak, IMO. Slowly declined after that to the point where I don't watch them much anymore. But if I catch an old one in syndication, I'm tuned in for the next half hour.

I would say it's remained solid through... the problem with The Simpsons is that they really have it all so there really isn't much left for them to do.

I will say though that the series was at a pinnacle in seasons 3-8 and became inconsistent after that. Season 14 was kinda disappointing and as the season that just ended.

"Can I see Armand's copy of Swank?"

Season 9 was solid, IMO.

I think my favorite Season is probably 4, but I also really love the first season; which has one of my all time favorite episodes "Bart the General."

The newer episodes are still funny at times, but nowhere near as good. The humor feels a lot more forced and some characters have changed for the worse. Homer was never bright, but he's REALLY stupid now. Also, while he used to sometimes be a good guy who cared about his family, we seldom see that side of him anymore. Ned Flanders has tunred into a raving Moral Majority type rather than the goofy, naive guy he used to be.

I slowed down at season 7. I picked up season 8 last black friday for $20 and I'm probbly not going to pick up any season past that for more than $20. ALl I can say is that season 8 has "A Milhouse Divided" with the Milhouse's dad's demo "Can I Borrow A Feeling". I always laugh at that mainly because Homer burst out laughing the way I would if one of my friends had something like that.

My opinion though is anything past 10 isin't worth buying for more than $20. If you don't have the Futurama sets yet then I highly suggest them. In the commentaries of Futurama, in one of them they say that the show was just too smart to catch on and when you hear them talk about some of the jokes and how much time they actually had to put into some of those jokes is funny. The 4th season of Futurama is gold though. Just top notch all the way through in every aspect.

Good post, emceelokey. I just picked up all of the Futurama sets for $40.00 bucks at Best Buy. I didn't realize how many episodes I haven't seen, but just about every single one is hilarious. It's just a damn shame the show was cancelled.

Supposedly they're working on a few episodes to go straight to dvd and then they'll get a first run on tv on comedy central. That's been the persistent rumor but I haven't seen anything official about it. It would be a good move though. Cartoon Network did a bump about the Futurama marathon they had like 2 weeks ago and said something like it averaged a 1.3 rating when the anime shows that would air in that same timeslot averaged a .5 rating. If that's true then that's pretty good. TNA Impact and the UFC programming average arund the same rating as a cartoon that hasn't had a new episode in 3 years.

:whistle2:s

Am I misunderstanding something or is there a big deal I'm not aware of?

I think 9 is the last great season, though there are some good episodes scattered throughout the later seasons.
