Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Sorry, that was posted in a thread that was merged into this one. I meant the QuakeCon pack.
Just adding up the requirements on product pages, north of 50GB, but that honestly seems low. I'd say closer to 75-100GB to be safe. If you're new to Steam though, one of the nice things is that you can redownload and install the games whenever you want, so you don't have to download everything at once.

Edit: Of note: Skyrim and Rage give the discounts and TF2 items if you purchase before August 8th. Quake 4 only gives the Quake rocket launcher in TF2 if you buy before August 7th. Expect to see a Quake sale on the final day that includes Quake 4.

Smack down 60$ and I get a f'ing hat. You've got to be kidding me.

Lets try again Bethesda. If you own. Morrowind 5% Oblivion 5% Fallout 3 5%. Pre-order now and this adds to the 10% pre-order bonus. I think we should be rewarded for our continual support of the developer. Or am I bordering on the world owes me a living.

Does anyone know if Skyrim is going to have steam achievements?

Saw this info over at Neogaf:
Tomorrow, Friday 5th August, you can get the Elder Scrolls Pack (Morrowind and Oblivion Game of the Year Editions) for $19.99, or $9.99 if you pre-order Skyrim.

Saturday 6th August marks the start of a Brink free-play weekend, where you can also buy the game with 50 per cent off for $24.99. Then on Sunday 7th August, there's a Fallout sale – Fallout 3: Game of the Year will be $9.99, New Vegas will be $19.99, and there will be DLC discounts too.
Brink is free to play now til Sunday!
Nice. Even though the reviews were mediocre I'll give it a look.
I hope it's New Vegas with all the DLC for $19.99. Is the DLC for that game worth it?
I've heard the newest one, Old World Blues, is one of the best of all the Fallout DLCs.

Me during the summer sale: You know, if they'd offer a Bethesda pack with everything, especially including Call of Cthulhu, I'd be all over it.

Me today: Ffffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu-

I wish they just could of also had the split pack. One for Bethesda and one for ID. The only games I want from the ID pack would me Enemy Territory and Quake 4 (because it was originally not in the quake pack).

I would of loved to spend $40-50 to have every bethesda game because the only one I do own is fallout 3 but that is a non steam vanilla version.

Now if only they would fucking drop morrowind to $10 or even $5. I mean Oblivion was fucking $7 during the summer sale, why can't a game that is what 4-5 years older drop.

I have the feeling the daily deals will be the little packs, as demonstrated by today's deal of the Doom & Quake pack.
Another to add to the "other keys" list is Just Cause 2. I bought it on D2D and they give you a Steam key.
It was always there. I bought mine from some other site for like $4 and put it into my Steam.

Bummed about the $60 price point for Rage and Skyrim. It doesn't really matter much anyway since I'll probably be waiting for a deal on both of them (which will be tough since they both look so awesome).

As release draws nearer, keep an eye on other sites like Green Man Gaming as they will probably have a much better deal than Steam for those games.

Anyway, tried Brink and I don't think it's for me. I just can't get into the team objective based games.

Game is ok but not for $25 bucks. i rather wait

I just tried Brink and after two attempts to play the campaign in which a popup told me to press F1 to read something only to not be able to close the menus, forcing me to quit out, I bailed. I regret wasting bandwidth downloading this thing. Unreal.

Would have totally bought the Quakecon pack had I not purchased Fallout 3 GOTY and Oblivion GOTY during the summer sale.

I do want the Heretic/Hexen games, Morrowind, Call of Cthulhu and Fallout New Vegas, but I can't justify it just for those.

I'm kinda hoping that the Heretic/Hexen games have their pack go on sale cheaper one of the days (I've been wanting to replay Hexen for a while now), but it probably won't.

Are their any fellow CAGs who have Rage and Skyrim pre-ordered that are willing to hook me up with the Quakecon Pack 2011 for $39.99? :D
I'm getting sort of tired of seeing TF2 items as the pre-order bonuses. It's not in any way enticing me to buy anything early.
I think the other problem is if I can find a box copy cheaper or if I pay at a place like GS with credit, I don't get the TF2 items.

Hey SteamCAGs, there is a new Subreddit called "Playdate" where every day we meet up on a lesser known game and blow it to smithereens. Thought you guys might like it! First Playdate is Alien Swarm tonight. Right now.

can't help but notice that Wolfenstien(2009) isn't in the Quakecon pack, so I guess that means no Wolfenstien day?

EDIT: Morrowind for cheap on Elder Scrolls day? One can hope! But Brink is already 50% off all weekend, does that mean there's no new deal on Saturday?
Here are the sales for the rest of the weekend:
Friday — Elder Scrolls sale
Saturday — Brink 50% off
Sunday — Fallout sale

Source: www.quakecon.org
Now I kinda wish I had not dropped the money on the King's Bounty Platinum pack, especially if the Elder Scrolls and Fallout games are going to be cheaper than the 25% off listed already.

It's pretty much ancient news now, but I'd like to thank dark2025 & beeman07 for answering my questions about Europa Universalis several pages ago. I ended up picking up Europa Universalis III Chronicles just before the sale ended. Thanks for the help, guys.

Rage and The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim...

Wish they were available in pre-purchase four packs. =/

I call shenanigans, Brink is 50% off all weekend. It even says so in the screenshot on the linked page. I suppose it's not impossible, but it would effectively mean no Saturday sale.
Wow Brink is just terrible.
It's not for everyone. Personally, I really like the shooting; I get great satisfaction from kills, as the feel of shooting the guns is great. Just my $0.02. :)

I'd love to pre-purchase Skyrim, but I wish they'd sweeten it with a better bonus and a better price. I don't care about a TF2 hat. I already have it pre-ordered at Amazon, and it comes with a cool cloth map. Granted I'd rather have it on Steam so I can play it a few hours sooner (which is kind of silly). Maybe it's better to have a retail copy anyway since I can just activate it on Steam.

Steam has great sales, but I still feel weird paying the same for a non-physical item.

I thought Brink was fine - not horrible but nothing special either. I think I would pick it up for about $10.

For those complaining about the TF2 bonus items - why don't you sell/trade them? There is a reason so many games on Steam offer those hats as incentives.

Yeah, Brink is pretty fun. I'm not a huge fan of how you suck until you reach higher levels though.

I'm hoping it'll hit $10. $15 I would consider it.

Steam has some great deals on Id software during Quake Con Aug 4-7.
There are daily deals as well as static deals such Quake/Doom pack or everything for $70; that is 31 games with DLC. There are discounts if you preorder Rage or Skyrim. I reccomend going to Quake Con; I played Rage there yesterday; the event is free.

i got brink for free wen it came out and actually liked it a lot, after all the bug fixes with online play. i havent played it much in a while, but when i do its pretty fun. I think i only find it fun cuz everyone sucks. so, i always win. and its fun to win. character customization is also a great addition to the game. i blazed through the challenge levels and the campaign pretty quickly though.

This isn't a sure thing.

Neither Bethesda nor Valve has announced that Skyrim will be a Steamworks game - it's possible that you'll have to choose between a retail copy and a Steam copy, just like Oblivion and Fallout 3. If it's not a Steamworks game, then activation on Steam is hit-or-miss, and Bethesda/Id games are usually "miss" in this regard. However, Fallout New Vegas was a Steamworks game, so there is good hope for Skyrim to be so, too.

That would be the best of both worlds - pre-order on Amazon to get the nice map, activate on Steam when your copy arrives. You'll just have to schedule something else to do between 11/11/11 (when it's released) and 11/11/14 (when your game actually arrives). That will be a looooong weekend! #-o :D

3 years?! That's one hell of a weekend!

Wow. That Quakecon Pack is ridiculous (if you don't already own 75%+ through one of the many many times different versions have been offered in the past).

In case anyone is interested:
Since I can't seem to find anyone with the discount, if anyone is interested in getting the Quakecon pack for about $44.00 send me a PM.

If there are enough people interested, I'll go ahead and preorder both of the games. Otherwise I'll just wait it out for some one else that can do it.
I just looked up Quake Con and realized that not only is it in Texas (I'm from San Antonio), but it's at the same hotel that they used to have MLG Dallas. So I've been there twice.

I'd place my bets that Skyrim will be a Steamworks title considering the last three of their recent releases, New Vegas, Brink and Hunted were.
