Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Someone claimed it without posting, at least publicly. Anyway, thanks for the generosity :)

So I put the Magicka DLC in my cart but forgot to purchase them. Common sense and experience say that they'll be discounted again soon, but Murphy's Law says I'll be waiting a while.

Murphy didn't know nothin' about Steam holiday sales.

Bummed that Gamersgate took Nuclear Dawn off sale. Haven't had a chance to play much of the demo, but I was willing to risk 7.50 on what I saw with the tutorial. $12 though? eeeeeh...

fuck I logged on to Steam to get the Shogun 2 DLC but it turned 1 PM and the deal changed! At least there is a good chance the series will be on sale again during the Holidays or something. :p
Today's deal is Dead Island at 50% off ($19.99)
The 4-Pack deal is pretty sweet - it works out to about $14.99 per person.

This game had a lot of woes at launch but it's really a pretty decent game. Co-op makes it especially interesting.

Also... just noticed this bit in Steam News:

A new game starts tomorrow. Check back to join in on the excitement!

Just confirmation of what has been known.

Ugh.... I payed $40 for this game at BB not that long ago, should of known Steam would have a better deal on Dead Island before the end of this year

The bloodbath arena is scarcely worth your time. You spent the entire game in big areas where you are constantly swarmed by zombies and now you want to get into a small area where you are constantly swarmed by zombies and pay for the privilege.

The game itself is lousy but great fun. I love the brutal, ragdoll-heavy first person melee combat. Just a shame it is so loaded with RPG numbers

This happened during black friday, Dead Island is $25 in Canada but $20 in the US.

Great game, I played solo for at least 40+ hours. Ran into just a couple quirks. I didn't get it at launch tho.
Cant believe I missed Shogun 2 for almost 70% off. The one thing I didn't check yesterday, Steams daily deal. Fu*k.
No worries -- a new sale/event starts tomorrow.
For those that don't know Supreme commander keys now seem to be activating on steam.

I happen to have a set of gold keys from direct2drive if anyone is interested in working out a trade.
My keys from D2D did not activate (FA or the base game). This was purchased over 2 years ago for the $5 deal. However, some are reporting success on your link from D2D.

Same, didn't work.
I'm hoping Christmas sale will begin tomorrow.. I'm so addicted to sales..
I would say, at this point, it's about a 99% chance it will.

The other 1% being a giant bear attacking the Steam servers?

I really hope the Holiday Sale is tomorrow. I am tired of Daily Deals I already own . The past four days have been games I already own.

Dead Island is decent for $20. I mean it's not perfect but $20 is about the right price for this game.
No worries -- a new sale/event starts tomorrow.
Crosses fingers. Have been eyeballing Shogun since it released earlier this year.

Thanks for the heads up. Wont forget to check this time.

Dead Island is still a bugged-out mess, but not game-breakingly bad like it was on release. The bugs that stuck around are more of the "break the illusion" variety: voice that in no way corresponds to movement, NPCs who physically behave strangely, enemy spawn techniques that shouldn't exist in today's gaming (for instance, stand on at the edge of a shed and face the zombies below, and they won't climb up. Turn your back while standing in the same place, however, and all of them will "climb up". Not sure if it's better they don't climb up at all, or if they should be allowed to climb up while you watch them, but either way the way it stands is not right.) Respawns are super frustrating because, although very fast and generous as they don't set you back far, more often than not they don't set you back far enough, so if you die in a heavily zombie-populated area, you will spawn there and die again another 20 times even if you are trying to leave it as fast as you can.

I was super amped for this game, but overall I'd give it a 7 ONLY if you play with friends. We had fun, more in spite of the game than because of it. Play by yourself and it's a 5 at best.
Just a reminder, Amazon has Steam beat on Dead Island and DI is Steamworks so you'll get the Steam code through them
It's $20 on both.

I'll try later, I bought Supreme Commander during that same sale a couple years ago.
The Steam sale can't get here soon enough. I've got money burning a hole in my pocket!
And judging by your signature you've not any games to play. Sadness.

Over/Under on Skyrim hitting $40 or below? I think $45 is kinda expected. And by expected I mean pleaseaplspelasplepalspalepslapleapslepalspleapslepasleapsleplaseplaeaseplease.

Yup. It is sad, but then I will have new games to play on my pc. And that will get better!

I'm waiting on Skryim as well - it should work out to about $48 on Direct2Drive today with 20% off code but I'm holding out to see if Steam does better.

I officially don't understand you. How can it be both?
I officially don't understand you. How can it be both?
Are you saying something can't be bad and fun at the same time? Fun isn't necessarily the measure of quality of a product. Something can be broken to pieces and can still be fun. For example I had a blast with Too Human, but I know that game is bad and completely understand all of the hate. I still had a blast with it though. Also same went with Mass Effect (1). Framerate issues, horrible controls, terrible texture load-in, and the first portion of the game can make you fall asleep... easily. But it is my favorite game this generation.
I officially don't understand you. How can it be both?
Its like a B movie. They are terrible, from a critiquing standpoint, but a guilty pleasure for some people. In fact, its that aspect, that they are so bad, that many people find so enjoyable. It defies logic but it is what it is.

If Jade Empire is on sale tomorrow I'm gonna get incontinent up in this bitch. That game has never been on sale since I started using Steam.

*loved Dead Island*

Did the game have a lot of bugs and some other issues? Sure nuff! But was it fun as shit just running around beating/slicing/shooting the shit out of zombies and leveling up the different characters unique skills? Sure nuff!
But did it have as many issues as Skyrim?
I played both Dead Island and Skyrim. Besides the developer accident of getting into debug mode I have had way less problems with Dead Island. Skyrim crashes whenever it feels like and I can't alt tab properly. Dead Island has none of those problems.

I guess different results for different people though.

Yeah i didnt think id ike Dead Island as much as I did. Kinda glad the DLC is on sale too and wanted it back when I got it on sale this past time.

Now tho im not so certain about the DLC. I think I might hold off and wait to see what if it goes back on sale here in the future.
