Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Which retail CD Keys are accepted on Steam?

Damn, steam. Your prizes are terrible.
lol!
torn on Metro 2033, is it worth playing?
I got it for $5 a few months ago, only played about an hour but it seemed really cool. Appears to be a quality game.

sorry but I laughed pretty hard at this hahaha
Awesome and thanks. I bought a new computer about 3 months ago This one to me exact and I wasn't sure if I needed to buy a graphics card to run some older games like The Witcher.

edit: I have Half-life 2 episode 2 on the orange box via PS3. Whats the difference between the Half-life 2 and the Half-life episode 1 and 2. Are they completely different games? Another thing I wanted to know is do any of these game supported controllers like a wired Xbox 360 controller?
Yes, they're different games. Start with Half Life 2, work your way up.

Clearly they plan on charging you soon for TF2.

GUYS GUYS I CRACKED THE CODE

YOU CAN SOON USE YOUR FRIENDS AS HATS :hot: IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW

Enjoy paying for your friendhats, suckers. I have a guest pass.
I got the Renegade Ops message too. Was confused as I don't have it either.

Debating on the Half Life Complete pack. I mostly just want HL2 plus the episodes/DM/etc., as I already have HL1 complete. I'm assuming Steam won't give me extra copies, will it? I didn't see anything on the package page, at least. Bah, humbug.
If you owned Renegade Ops before December 19th then Avalanche gave you the new DLC for free. Try adding it to your cart and it will say you already own it.

Free DLC? I didn't know there was DLC for the game, checking now.

I don't know how "gust passes" work, but is it possible that it's for a "premium account"? If that's the case, you basically got the veteran's helmet as your prize. Which kinda sucks as a prize, but at least it's something, I guess.

I have 9 different accounts (5 of witch I've created in the past 24 hours) and the only game I've won across those accounts is Half-life (the first game from 1998). So that's at least 18 different chances to win something and all I got was HL, which I already own.

On the upside, I've got a lot of coal. If I could only figure out a way to get them all onto one account, I could redeem them for a couple of mystery gifts. Of course, I'd probably end up with guest pass to TF2.

I cannot add Dungeons of Dredmoor standalone game to my cart. Maybe it's sold out already? The complete pack with the dlc will still add, however.

Meh, finished the spiral knight and dungeons of dredmor objectives but all I got was coal. Guess I'll try for the Psychonauts objective next.

Hmm, it doesn't look like the Sacred games ever go sub 50% according to Steamprices.com.

I'm sort of interested but I normally don't buy games until they are 75% off, especially older games.

I just tried and was able to add it. I already own it from one of the Humble Bundles, so I didn't go as far as trying to buy it. But I was at least able to get it into my cart.

Just came out in the past couple days. It's normally $3 and $5 for the two pieces, but if you already had Renegade Ops they just gave it to you cause they're nice. There's also a winter achievement in RO that's coming up that I think requires the DLC, so I'm guessing that RO will be one of the dailies at some point.

Renegade Ops Naughty or Nice Done in any level of the new Coldstrike campaign. Look for Santa flying in his sleigh and shoot him down. Receive a present from Santa Claus.
I have completed 11 achievements and received 8 Coal, 1 L4D, 1 CS:S, and 1 Alien Breed 3: Descent.

How does the redeeming work? I only have 1 coal right now, and I know that's not enough to redeem, but I don't see anywhere to craft coal into games (or coupons). When you get a few coals, does this suddenly become an option?

They owed us something for the clusterfuck of a launch they had, tbh.

Yes; it says "Craft Coal" or something like that.

I haven't played it in a couple of months, just did a verify game cache and it's downloading 762.1MB. Hopefully that's the DLC. Thanks, I wasn't paying attention. They probably gave it for free to make up for the multiple last minute delays and shaky launch.

Son of a bitch!! I just assumed that when you redeemed coal you got a game. It never occurred to me that those stupid coupons would also be a possibility.
Do you have an xbox 360? Play the Orange Box there. It looks great and plays great too. If you are a console gamer that's the right place to play it. Mouse and keyboard controls can be frustrating for newbies like myself.
This is horrible advice. If you are interested in Half Life, buy the complete pack on steam (they're all good). Valve games are always better on pc, and the original Half Life isn't even available elsewhere, anyway.

I played through Portal and Half life 2 on PC and Xbox 360 no difference and actually if you have a choice Xbox is better for the achievements

That's what I thought too. This achievement hunt is BS. At least during the Summer Sale you were guaranteed something tangible for every 4 "tickets". Now you're playing Coal/Coupon Roulette.

A Spiral Knight achievement guide:

1. Download game. Run and create your knight
2. Go through the tutorial and at the end you will go to the "rescue camp"
3. There are elevators at the camp that you can go down in a party with. You will enter a dungeon.
4. Beat a dungeon and you should have 200 "crowns"
5. Once back at rescue camp, click on the double crossed sword icon on the top right of the screen to enter battle.
6. Once in battle, pick up a snowball and hit an opponent.

Just Chantelise for me today. That was the exact price I was hoping for. :)

Bought the Half-Life Complete pack for my gf because she wouldn't stop telling me how bored she was... in fact, she's still saying she's bored. Ah well lol

And I'm too lazy to do any achievements today. Especially since I'm likely to get another coupon I don't want anyway xD

7. Uninstall that awful, awful game.

You can also do the dungeons solo. Just "start group" and then make the group private or invite only.

Went to buy Dungeons of Dredmoor (for a cheap achievement) and it wouldn't let me...then I checked my library. I already own the game from some past indie pack. Cool, but I feel dumb for not even remembering these things.

If you end up liking the game for more than just an achievement then the Realm of the Diggle Gods DLC is worth it. Just a side note.

Well, on the bright side, on the "How does it work?" page, in the coal crafting bubble, it seems to say that once you have crafted 7 into a gift, "Don't worry, you won't get coal again".

This differs a bit from the Summer sale, where your spent tickets still acted as entries to the big final drawing. Here it looks like you choose whether your coal turns into gifts (after redeeming the first 7) or stays as entries for the end of sale drawing.

So maybe in your case, your leftover 8th will remain as 1 entry, and you'll only get gifts for each achievement from here on. If you ever get another coal, can you follow up here?

I just got another coal. So 9 coal total.

Got Dungeons of Dreadmor for the achievement a few hours ago, and was just able to put it down. Very funny and addictive game for $1.87 with DLC. Highly recommended!

From the steam client, click the forgot password link. There will be an option for not knowing your account name. Selecting this will have your account name emailed to you.
