Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

I know everyone keeps complaining about the damn coupons, but come on, shut up already.

Here's the OBVIOUS TRUTH: Steam recently spent a lot of time and development in creating a trading platform. Now they want people TO USE IT. If you don't want it. Trade it. If didn't already have the game, odds are, you wouldn't freakin trade the coupon and ever experience the trading platform.

Ps. Sorry you didn't win at being random enough.

Everyone talks about SD being so full of hoarders... this site has way more whiners.

I actually agree but then why not have the system looking at your friends and what they have/want?

I have two useless coupons right now and everyone on my friends list either has the games or doesn't want them/would never play them.

I might give them to some random person but trading them with randoms most certainly adds a level of anxiety. But you know what will most likely happen? They'll sit there unused and expire.

Like I said, I fully understand what they were going for but it should have been done in a more intelligent way as to foster people giving and trading to people that they actually know.

edit: I guess another way to put it would be that they track all of this kind of stuff. They know what you have on your wishlist as well as your friends and recommendations and pages that you look at often and who you actually trade with/gift to and chat with and so forth.

There is no reason that they couldn't have made it so that every single gift and coupon would be relevant and used either by you or someone in your circle of friends.
3 pieces of coal for me today. On the plus side I am liking Defense Grid quite a bit.

One more piece of coal to go for the 7. The question is, is there a chance the seven pieces of coal can result in you getting another piece of coal or is it guaranteed to be a game/coupon?
You cannot get another coal from crafting them.
You cannot get another coal from crafting them.
Thanks. There is always that glimmer of hope of hanging onto all of them for the January 2nd drawing, but good to know.
I suspect Rage was a daily deal they released early.
I guess I was too busy checking the holiday sales to notice that there are daily deals as well... bummer.
If I just wanted to sample one of the Sherlock games, which would you recommend?
If you *do* get any of them, please let us know if they still have TAGES DRM (in addition to Steam).
But is it (RAGE) really worth it at 15? the price has been tanking pretty quick on this one.
If it goes back there, yes.
Any opinions of the Grotesque pack and that Defense Grid thingy?
Defense Grid is an amazing Tower Defense game. It's so well done that it's even a good introduction to newcomers to the genre.

It is guaranteed to be a game or coupon. Says so very prominently on the game contest page.
Sherlock Holmes pack and Defense Grid: You Monster! for me today.

Anyone want to knock out the Swords and Soldiers achievement with me?
Sorry to ask this twice, but since you already bought it: do the Sherlock Holmes adventures still have TAGES DRM?

I don't know what piece of coal I've been living under- I just found out about HB4. What a sweet package of games for just over $5.

Here is Steam keys for HB3 for any one that wants it:

Note that I have not played any of them, but from the sounds of it, the Jack the Ripper and Lovecraftian one, The Awakened, get the highest praise.

It looks like only Sherlock Holmes Versus Jack the Ripper lists TAGES. The rest have no 3rd party DRM. I haven't installed any of them yet, so I can't say for sure if it's been patched out or not. I don't see anything on the Steam forums about it. Of course, it does look like you can uninstall TAGES with their own tool.

And yes, Jack the Ripper and The Awakened seem to get the consensus best bet.

You're welcome, mate.

Has anyone done the Swords and Soldiers achievement? How long did it take? What is the level of difficulty for someone who never played the game and sucks at multiplayer games?:D

I'm waiting for someone to run it with me. It's not too hard a game to figure out. Play the first level, and I'll run through the achievement with you, if you want.

took about 5 minutes. Just remember to sacrifice your people to build up mana to cast that mind control spell

I can run it through with you right now... just add me "Moost"
took about 5 minutes. Just remember to sacrifice your people to build up mana to cast that mind control spell
Yeah. I just don't want to have to worry about someone actually trying to beat me while I'm just working on the achievement.
I suspect Rage was a daily deal they released early.
Earlier this morning I saw Rage listed in today's Daily Deal post in the Steam News feed. It wasn't on the main Store page, but it did have the $15 sale price. My guess is that it will be back as a proper daily deal later on during this sale.

I'll get on it.

I'm thinking about picking up Sanctum (didn't get it during the Indie Royale bundle) and Sequence. Are they worth picking them up at $2.49 a piece or should I wait out a possible daily deal? Are the Sanctun DLCs worth buying the complete pack?

For anyone still on the fence about Defense Grid, just do it. I've purchased the game on both XBLA and Steam and continue to play it every now and then due to it being one of the best tower defense games out on the market.

I'm looking to trade my sanctum lol have anything?

Sanctum and the DLC are solid. You most likely won't see it go better than 75%, and even if you do, it wouldn't go that much lower. If you're looking for a game to play now, I'd say just go for it, but there's no harm in waiting.

The Rage deal at $15 is weird, because the clock was counting down from 24 hours like it was a daily deal, but now it's back to $20. Did it get pulled as a daily deal?

Just got that Trine achievement. As much as I want to like the game, it's just too frustrating for me control wise. I am using Mouse + Keyboard because it's easier to aim the Archer with the mouse but it's just frustrating playing that damn wizard trying to make precise things.

At least I only spent $2 on it.
Just did the Tropico 4 achievement and got the Valve Complete pack.
The knight in armor annoys me the most. He's slow, has glitchy blocking, can't jump worth crap, can't even swim. Now the thief with flame arrows - that'll rush a bunch of skellies at once. just get in their face, BAM. cake.
I joined the Holiday Sale Community group when it first opened, and now the achievement won't clear. Oh well.
I had to leave the group and rejoin to get the achievement to work.
Is Grotesque funny and a RTS or what?
Grotesque Tactics is sort of a strategy RPG akin to Final Fantasy: Tactics. While it has a good framework, it is fairly mediocre in practice. First off, it's short (beat it in 12 hours with all the achievements) and has zero replayability. It's also repetitive in that the game uses many of the maps more than once (think one or two were used 3-4 times), and the objectives don't change much. The gameplay starts off fun, but becomes a little mundane towards the end, especially when you're managing a team of 10 (which, in turn, removes a lot of the challenge). The story is forgettable and the humor is hit or miss.

I suppose it's a decent enough game for $2.50, but don't expect too much. I can't speak as to what the sequel has improved or not, but the first really hasn't encouraged me to find out for myself.
Yeah. I just don't want to have to worry about someone actually trying to beat me while I'm just working on the achievement.
If you still need someone to get the achievement I'm game ready.

Alright, now I'm glad I held off on buying any of the stalker games til today. Just grabbed Shadow of Chernobyl and Call of Pripyat, now to kick my backlogs arse. Lol

You are my new best friend! Ha.. thanks I really appreciate it. I've only recently gotten into steam and only bought the last 2 humble bundles. I wish I had something to give back to you, sorry. But thanks again you are awesome!!!

Funny with all of the talk of the Humble codes. I just looked and saw that I still have codes for #2 and #3 available through my Humble page.

Have to see what I want to do with them.
