Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
On the wishlist, I didn't realize until recently that you can reorder things by typing in the number instead of the slow-ass click and drag method. D'oh.
Thanks for letting me know that! Dragging the games was incredibly annoying.

Told myself I was going to play psychonauts for just like an hour or so, and get a feel for it to see if I wanted to go far enough to get the acheivement, since I heard it took a while. This was at like 9pm. I turned the game off at 4a.m., because my wife meandered into my office and wondered what in the world I was doing. I had no idea I'd been playing for that long. Work sucks hard today.

Still haven't pulled the trigger on the Sherlock Holmes pack. First person to say yay or nay decides if I buy it or not. Please give a reason though.

Yay, b/c robert downey jr is dreamy. Go!
Thanks for letting me know that! Dragging the games was incredibly annoying.
It is also annoying trying to remember to hit save before leaving the page. I have reordered it many times before left the page forgetting i had to save and lost all the changes.
What was Guardian of Graxia's price yesterday?
The same price it is today, $2.49. It hasn't had a daily yet, although I'm sure it will.
what was guardian of graxia's price yesterday?
$2.49

edit: ninja'd by utopian! not sure about that daily prediction though, since yesterday it was on the chevo list...

All through the Summer Sale it was 75% off and never had a daily, doubt it will have a daily this time around as well.

Adds to these purchases..

Hm, darn. Considering the craptastic reviews for it, I'm hesitate to buy it for much. I think the game has been less than $2 before, and I'm not sure I want to give them $2.50. We'll see by the end of the sale.

Still havent bought anything yet. Im hoping for saints row to drop to 30$ even though I don't really need it. With so many other games to play i can probably wait till it hits 20$.
No one is posting their winnings today? Are none of us doing the achievements? I know I haven't. Toki Tori looks especially annoying.
The Toki Tori one was actually pretty fun, and I got The Orange Box for doing it.

Edit: Though I already had The Orange Box, of course, because who doesn't at this point?
I do occasionally buy used copies of older games, though. I found System Shock 2 last year and since that game seems to be stuck in licensing limbo for DD services, why the hell not? It was only like $3-5. Unfortunately, it's impossible to run on Vista/7 AFAIK, and you have to perform the Black Sacrament to get it on XP. I may just have to see if I can make a Windows 98 VM for it. Oh Windows 98, I thought I'd quit you.
Nice find I managed to find Baldur's Gate II Shadows of Amn for 2.02 at Play it Trade it and Vampires The Masquerade Bloodlines at Half Priced Books for eight bucks.
I just got farming simulator 2011 as a prize from the pile.........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
I actually really want that!
Man I wish Space Marine would get cheaper!
It was $20 on amazon. I am personally waiting on it to drop to $10.

I did the Toki Tori achievement in about a half hour, and got coal for my troubles. Oh well, I actually like the game so I didn't mind too much.

What took me ages was the Binding of Isaac achievement (even though it's not one of the achievements for today)! That game is brutal, lol. But hey, the achievement for it made me actually launch the game and play it a bit, so I at least got my money's worth out of that game.
No one is posting their winnings today? Are none of us doing the achievements? I know I haven't. Toki Tori looks especially annoying.
i won universe sandbox today, space pirates and zombies yesterday, something like 6 pieces of coal so far, and a 33% valve coupon. i've actually done a lot of achievements but most of them are for games that haven't been in the gift pile yet.
Hm, darn. Considering the craptastic reviews for it, I'm hesitate to buy it for much. I think the game has been less than $2 before, and I'm not sure I want to give them $2.50. We'll see by the end of the sale.
Looking at Steam Sales tracking thingy lowest it has ever gone was 75% off.

I found a couple of possibly unadvertised deals:

- World Basketball Manager 2010 for $1.24 (75% off) was 50% off yesterday.

- Puzzle Kingdoms for $3.74 (75% off) was 50% off yesterday.

So far I've gotten 5 coals, 33% off Valve, 50% off IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover, 10% off Telltale, 50% off Combat Wings: Battle of Britain, and 75% off Risen. If anyone wants any of those coupons, PM me. I don't need anything in return.

Thanks for the reminder. I forgot about the You Monster DLC for Defense Grid.

I'm thinking about passing on Grotesque Tactics. While it looks attractive, the reports of bugginess has me hesitating.

I don't. *looks sheepish* I've just never gotten around to getting any of the Half-Life games, although i do have Portal, and TF2 now that it's free.

Both of these are steamworks games so you can buy them anywhere. Amazon had both of them on sale earlier this week. SR3 was $29.99 and I believe Space marine was $19.99.

There are probably some cags on the trading forum that will trade copies to you for decent prices.

Straight from T-Money.

Two more steamworks games on Amazon tomorrow/tonight.
I just want to know if you guys are excited for us to run Just Cause 2 and Lara Croft: A Guardian of Light at $2.49 tomorrow?

I don't have it either, but I do have Portal (free) and HL2 (cheap).

Man, The Polynomial runs like absolute shit on my computer. I have no idea why considering I can run most other games perfectly. The framerate is horrible. Nonetheless, did the achievement and got 50% off Tiny Bang Story. Meh.
I don't have it either, but I do have Portal (free) and HL2 (cheap).
You guys are missing out HL2, and Episode 1 + 2 are great games and well worth it. I like to think of HL in general as a thinking man's FPS.

Why the HECK is EYE not advertised. I want this game besides the iffy reviews simply because of what it tried to be & the source engine. Will be buying, thankfully, because people talked about it on here....otherwise I would have missed it.
Does anyone want to 4pack with me? Can someone PM me?

Still last minute deciding on Batman Arkham. I might be able to wait.....for lower...maybe? God frick IT. I crumbled and I don't even have a gamepad for pc. LAME.

I got DOTA 2 for the Toki Tori achievement. In the description it says "Dota 2 - Hardware Survey". What's that supposed to mean? I thought it was going to be a free game, or maybe not? I'm not interested in multiplayer RPGs anyway.

Well, if either of you fine fellows might like to trade, do feel free to PM me. :) I've also won L4D2, which I also already have.

I'm having a ton of fun doing the haven't-officially-been-revealed-yet achievements.

Definitely in for Avadon and considering the Mass Effect games even though I already have them on 360. Wouldn't mind playing 3 on PC and I'd want my choices to carry over. Any opinions on the Alien Breed trilogy?

What makes it more cerebral than other FPSs? I've played through HL2 and the episodes, and while I really liked the episodes, HL2 never did anything for me. The atmosphere and world-building were great, but I was never compelled by the gameplay (nor found the story to be any better than most science fiction -- if anything, it was weakened by non-existent characterization of Freeman.) I know I'm a minority, but I've just never felt nor understood the love the HL series gets.
You seem to have missed that I do have HL2.

Just to be clear, I was offering The Orange Box for trade, not requesting it.

Sorry to post twice about trades in a non-trade thread. Just wanted to eliminate any confusion.
Agreed though I only put about 35 into it.
I messed around with other character builds in Torchlight, with my Vanquisher being my main character. I made a few other mule characters to store extra gear and gems when I was overflowing.

Got The Witcher: Enhanced Edition gift and a 75% off Napolean Total War coupon. Don't think I'll ever get to Witcher and I don't play RTS games that much, so anyone can PM if they want em.

EDIT: Witcher gone
