Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Not a fan of AYIM. Glad I don't have to touch that game again after getting that achievement. Though I got a 66% off Two Worlds 2 coupon, so maybe the joke's on me. Renegade Ops was great, though. Kept playing long after I'd earned the achievement.

Now, I just have to decide whether or not I want to try crafting.
That Atom Zombie Smasher achievement is not worth it IMO. Didn't like the game at all but also got it for free. Gave up after the 3rd wave. No point in doing achievements unless they are actually fun to do like most of the ones I've done so far.
It seems like a formidable challenge at first glance but it's actually very easy.

The trick is to let the zombies infect most of the survivors early on so you don't have to worry about infection later.

Pore through these videos and you should be fine.

Lowering the game speed also helps a lot, the achievement isn't difficult to get, and I wouldn't say it's boring either.. I got it on my first try. The only achievements I've had problems with so far are Rise of Immortals (terrible game, took me 2 days just to register an account), and Frozen Synapse (very difficult to log into the servers).
I reckon a lot of these achievements aren't worth the trouble, considering the gamble itself. Then again, I have a very skewed viewpoint concerning the Achievement system in general. I think Achievements are fun when they're awarded through normal gameplay and doing certain "above and beyond" things. When they're designed to cause frustration, amplifying any of the game's weaker aspects in execution and design, Achievements take away all the fun of the game itself. (The best example is inFAMOUS. For example, players must slide on the train rails for the equivalent of several hours to get a Trophy. Even going for 100%, the average player won't accrue half that amount of time on the rails. So, Sucker Punch, how is that Achievement fun?)
Conversely, some achievements are just ridiculous fodder. For the Sly Cooper Collection, you're awarded 3 achievements before ever actually playing the game (one for putting the disc in, one for selecting to play one of the games, and something else equally silly -- visiting the setting, perhaps?). But I'm a trophy whore, so I welcome things like this, too -- even if I'm being recognized for knowing how to put a disc in a slot ;)

I was going to say the same. The Atom Zombie Smasher achievement comes down to learning how to succeed at that minigame. It takes a few tries, but once you figure out the mechanics of it, you're set. It seems that most players experience being stuck in the first three waves for as many tries, and then it clicks and you make it as far as the achievement.

It's worth noting that the minigame is a derivation from the actual game. Eagles, if you haven't tried playing AZS proper, go back to it after the Cheevograb Event is done and give it another whirl. It's a whole different game.
Only 22 minutes left, think today will be a recap or brand new sales?
Recap is the last day of these sales, they should all be brand new.

I got the achievement on the first try. Just be quick with clicking, the helicopter is pretty deadly if you can click quickly. The bombs really aren't even needed until you start getting the large zed spawning.

Last year, they did so a recap one week in, so don't count it out.

However, I figure that if they were doing the same this time, it would have been yesterday, marking the seventh day.

I'm going to assume you watched a video of the minigame first, something I opted not to do. It took me more than one try just to figure out the controls and where I needed to position the chopper just to pick up the bombs.

Once that was figured out (and the strategy to allow infections in the first wave was employed), it was cake.
No lie.

I'd thought that too but they might have pushed the recap off (assuming their doing two again) til today so they had brand new sales for Christmas.

That is an interesting point that I didn't consider.

Game of Thrones 50%
Worms/Rock of Ages/Red Factions - 75%
Beat Hazard 75%
Far Cry 75%
Test Drive Unlimited 2 - 66%

Don't think any that hasn't been said already.

You can get the Frozen Synapse achievement playing offline with bots. No need to even register with the servers. This is how I did it.

The achievement is easier than you think. I played it on the first days of the sale and got stuck on wave 2-4 every time and gave up. When it actually became a daily achievement, I took some advice I read and found it to be pretty easy. A summary of the notes I read + my observations:

- let zombies infect survivors on one side of the map early on. This gives you breathing room in later waves where you can't afford random chain infections. In later waves, check the remaining time to see if you can afford letting civilians get infected, as it gets easier when there are less civilians to protect.

- To pick up Kringlebombs, the bottom of your helicopter's line needs to touch the bomb pickup. Kringlebombs aren't necessary to reach/beat wave 7, so save them for when a chain infection starts and you don't have time to wait for it to stop. Trying to line them up perfectly wastes too much time, and not lining them up perfectly means you usually miss a straggler or two and still end up wasting time.

- Your helicopter fires much faster inside of the dotted circle. Aim with a sweeping motion instead of pausing on each group, and it takes time for the minigun to rev up between bursts. Use this time to check over the rest of the map and plan your movement in advance.

- +/- speed up and slow down the game speed. If you're having trouble, you can slow it down to 10% and get the achievement that way. I found I liked 30-50% the best, as the action was fast enough that I didn't get bored, yet slow enough that when things got hectic, I didn't get overwhelmed.

Also, after you're done with the achievement, give the normal game a try. I've found it to be an enjoyable distraction that's well worth the price, even without the achievement.

Ah, I didn't realize that. Wish I'd known that sooner, oh well. It's ridiculous how difficult it is to log in though, it took me a while to even log in to the alternate server.

You can get the Frozen Synapse achievement even more easily by setting up a campaign where you have one gunner and the opponent has nothing. Play one turn, get.

You can actually play offline and start the game with just a machine gunner and have the other team start with nothing. Play the first turn and the game automatically ends, and you get the achievement.

Yeah...that's what I did. 2 minutes of gameplay registered on my account.

Rock of Ages is $2.49. Nice!

Looks like nothing for me today. Thankfully, there are very few games on steam I really want anymore, otherwise I think my wallet would rise up and kill me.
sorry, i know this is OT but how do you remove a game from your steam library?
Right click on the game you want to get rid of > Delete Local Content

You can get it by starting a skirmish with one machinegunner - JUST ONE - on your team, and nothing on the other side. Yep, nowt, nada, nish.

Imagine my surprise at discovering that tactic after nearly an hour of fsddfffdsdSTUPIDBAZOOKAMANfdsd$$$rrrrrrrs. :D
Anomaly Warzone is a daily deal, it has an achievement but the Gift Pile page doesn't show it.
That is because it was an earlier one.

I wouldn't mind some of these indie games, but with the amount of bundles I just can't bring myself to get them. That and I could care less about getting coupons from their achievements.

I had no issues getting the achievement (I used the strategy you guys described), I was just dumb and didn't realize I could get it by playing offline, rather than logging in.

Holy Shit. I just won 2 games through holiday cheevos.

Majesty 2 Collection and DiRT 3. Keeping Majesty 2 but DiRT 3 might be trade items.

Just Rock of Ages for me today then :D.

New achievement: -10% off Activision. I expect no less (or actually more discount) from those greedy bastards.

Oh and boring deals again today. Already got the cool stuff.

lots of great deal today I'm getting Bastion, Bulletstorm, Red Faction Armageddon and Rock of Ages. I'm considering picking up Sonic Generation and the RF Armageddon Path to War DLC but waiting to see if any fellow CAGs recommend them
That is because it was an earlier one.
D'oh! Of course.

Got coal for the Rock of Ages achievement. I have enough to craft, but I fear for what's to come...
Oh boy. Another coupon. 50% off GreedCorp.

I'm now at 12 coal and 6 coupons. Still yet to win a game.
Right there with you, man. 7 coal and a bunch of coupons.
Any thoughts on Far Cry (1 or 2), Beat Hazard, Rock of Ages, and Bullet Storm? I already have the rest or am not interested.
Far Cry 2 is either love it/hate it. It's an immersive, open-world FPS but its immersion can come at the expense of fun. If you can't stand having to do a lot of driving/walking to get to objectives, or respawning enemies (at checkpoints you drive through), then you'll get frustrated quickly. I got through the first half but burnt out on it after about 20 hours, doing all side and main missions.

Beat Hazard is a twin-stick shooter that's, ostensibly, powered by music. I've never seen any real connection between music and gameplay though, personally, since it's more abstract than something like Audiosurf. If you love twin-sticks, you'll like it. It's fun, I like it. But it doesn't have a lot of staying power, IMO. I go back to Audiosurf, but not Beat Hazard.

I hear you. Im at 24 gift pile entries and finally got something other than wretched coupons or coal by crafting some coal into payday.
