Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Woah. Just received the Valve Complete Pack as a gift for doing the recommendation achievement! As I already have all of these games from other sales over the last year, this pack will be going into the CAG Fund for Childs Play drawings.
I agree. That's really awesome. :D

jscme has gained 1337 experience!
jscme leveled up!
I hate that game so much and only play it during sales for achievments

What bothers me is that everything has to be 90 degrees and if you hit the wrong key you're stuck slowly going back the other way
Bah
I only every play And Yet It Moves during these sales just for the achievements for that reason. I think I just don't have the patience anymore for that kind of precision in games, plus I find the game rather imprecise at times. I also don't like the presentation but I suppose that's a matter of taste. I'll try it again with a controller one day; I've read that it controls properly that way.

Bought the Jedi Knight Collection, Republic Commando (always wanted to play this one) and Empire At War Gold cause I loved that game but don't know where my discs are. I'm installing Rusty Hearts now for the achievement. Hopefully it's not too far in the game.
Trick to enjoying And Yet It Moves in 3 easy steps:
Step 1: switch the key mapping on the camera rotate keys so left is right and right is left
Step 2: Room now turns right when you press right and left when you press left, what a concept!
Step 3: Profit
Okay, now I'm REALLY going to have to try this with a controller and remapping the rotational keys. Why did I not think of this? :D

I just received what has to be one of the worlds oddest games as a reward for my recommendation of KOTOR. Anyone ever played Farming Simulator 2011???
Recommendation achievement netted me a second 33% Valve coupon. Lucky me?
Ha - just a tad luckier than the torrent of 10% off coupons I'm getting from TellTale and Atari (Atari from the recommendation, and TellTale from crafting coal).

I decided I'm not doing any more achievements. The risk/reward as far as time spent is just not worth it. I've completed 22 and received one game - and while it was a decent net...I've spent well over 8 hours on those achievements, and it's just not worth it for the 10 dollar game I received.

It takes about 30-45 minutes. It feels like a PS2 era Japanese beat-em-up. Somewhat similar to a really bad Devil May Cry but multiplayer. I played with a controller and felt like the combos were really clunky and my character had little "flow". I ended up just button mashing. Maybe it gets better as you level up.

Not a whole lot this year IMO, but I'm still excited to see the sales every day at 10am :)

I'm working on what achievements I can right now. There are 2 I can still do but haven't done yet: trading (12/23) and the one for Killing Floor (12/25).

Questions on the holiday gift pile achievements:

1) If I trade a piece of coal for a piece of coal will I get the achievement? All I have is a 50% off Valve coupon and coal :p Unless of course someone would like to trade said coupon for something else...

2) I played a bit of Killing Floor on the Evil Santa's Lair level but I still haven't got the achievement. I'd hop into a game for a bit, kill some guys, then leave; my guess is I need to play until it gets beat? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

yes you can trade anything for the acheivement

41 objectives have earned me 10 coupons and 32 coal. Not too thrilled with this promo.

If you're going to buy the Prince of Persia collection today, skip Sands of Time and buy Forgotten Sands Deluxe instead. For the same price you get both games plus an extra level and the soundtrack.

1. Yes

2. I have heard you can do what you are talking about but I just started a private multiplayer server playing by myself and got it at the beginning of wave 4. That's when they finally spawned enough invisis.
I was able to learn the control scheme just fine. It's not that hard to figure out. And around halfway through the level, there's a part where you have to ride a branch down to another area. It's a very easy achievement to get.
I used default control scheme for awhile and it worked ok for a bit but later levels can require some pretty quick, twitch moves and more than a few time instinct won over brain and I rotated the room the wrong way. I found it much easier to just remap to fit instinct rather than try and fight it every level.

What is it folks find is off-putting about And Yet it Move's art style?

Yeah I noticed that too. I recommend all of the PoP games except for the 2008 PoP. That was the only one that I couldn't bear to finish.. and it's nothing like the others.

Why does Activision have to ruin a slot in the daily deals every single day instead of just making one franchise sale like any other normal publisher?
Hey! I am from The Netherlands so I can fix that for you if you want.

All you have to do is send 5 euro's as a gift via paypal. You can set the valuta you wish to pay in, so you can pay in euros. It will convert automatically and pull the amount in dollars from your account. I will then buy the game as a gift and send it to your email/steam acct.

I've bought a few games via american friends and some CAG's here myself. That has saved me quite a bit of cash. Dead Island, Rage, Terraria, Frozen Synapse... I never had any problems with the regional difference. The only thing I saw was that it clearly said "North American edition" or something for Dead Island. But I saw nothing noteworthily different in the gameplay. As long as nothing has been edited in a different region (censuring sometimes happens, but it is very uncommon) you should be fine.

Just send me a PM if you want me to fix that game for you. CAG's helped me. About time I returned the favor.

You might want to wait for it to appear in a daily though. Might have a Dawn of War franchise sale or something.
Thanks. PM sent.

Thanks for the reply! I'll have to give that a try once I get home in a little bit :)

I'll be picking up the game later tonight Sir_Fragalot.

I'll try to get a hold of you once I do. (Won't be until after 8 CST tonight.)
Why does Activision have to ruin a slot in the daily deals every single day instead of just making one franchise sale like any other normal publisher?
Because their Evil?

Also did Crimecraft and Rusty Hearts achievements. Crimecraft was annoying but not to difficult and Rusty Hearts was easy it just took 30 minutes to get to it. Got coal for my efforts but better than coupons.
Anyone want to do the DOW II Retribution Achievement? I will be on most of the day, just add me on Steam (sirfragalot86).
I am interested but will have to wait until I am done with work. At the earliest 6 PM CST.

By biggest issue with Crimecraft is I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to make throwing a snowball anything besides f1. What a horrible key for this. Why not "mouse 1." Somehow even with this handicap I won both of the matches I played in but taking my hand off the movement keys to throw a snowball really handicapped me.

Dejobaan complete pack is silly. Aaaaah For the Awesome REPLACES Aaaah A Reckless Disregard for Gravity. And 1 2 3 Kick It is a forever unfinished tech demo. Just get For The Awesome.

Note that the For The Awesome cheevo requires you do well on six pretty tricky levels. It's not beyond your abilities but if you're just starting the game it'll be a bit of work.

I was actually just poking around looking for this info, so thanks! That was the notion I got from what I saw so it's nice to hear it confirmed.

That game looks kinda like a completely vertical, buildingless Mirror's Edge. Does that sound right or am I missing the point? Looks fun regardless.
Has Unreal Tournament 2004 been less than $3.74 for this sale? I want to pick it up before the sale is over just for a few mods.
For this sale, it hasn't been cheaper. Will it be cheaper? My guess is no because this price is already 75% off. Although I can't say that with 100% certainty as I haven't been a STEAM CAG for as long as a lot of people here

I managed to change the snowball button to Mouse1. Did the achievement a couple days ago and uninstalled but I was able to do it, no problem in options.

The only connection to Mirror's Edge is that it's the parts where you miss a building and go careening to your death.

It's an arcadey game where you jump off a building and dive through an obstacle course of stuff, trying to graze as much as you can to rack up big points and then land in the safe zone at the end. For pure arcadey fun, the speed and maneuvering of it all is quite fun. I do recommend it.

Though, be careful, the stupid lol randumb run-on sentences never stop. They think they're hilarious

Sequence videos were amusing so going to pick that up along with empire at war.

just played a bunch of the binding of isaac found it rather amusing though not a huge fan of the story/artstyle, no achievement yet either.

considering Dejobaan Complete Pack, and battlefront 2.
Sadly not all the star wars games on are on sale though have the ones i do want already.
The devs said it wasn't going to be on sale till spring time in the Steam forums for it.
and from related comments seems likely trine 2 will show up in a humble bundle in a year or two, maybe a small sale in the first 6 months.

PM's back mate :)

Not much for me today again. Stronghold 3 is tempting, but that price is still way too high. F3AR 3 is also too expensive still. Already got Dawn Of War 2. Not retribution though but I haven't played DoW2 that much, didn't like it as much as I thought, I suppose.

I'm thinking of picking up the Unreal Deal Pack though. Someone mentioned it and it's a nice deal for alot of nostalgia that still provides quality.

Hrm im completely new to buying games off of steam, wanted to pick up Magic: DOTP 2012, I noticed they have a complete bundle for about $25. Does buying a complete bundle mean that when they release more DLC I will get that DLC free? As I know they are putting out more DLC in january.

It's incredibly easy. Just start it solo on easy mode. By the end of the level you should have it.
I managed to change the snowball button to Mouse1. Did the achievement a couple days ago and uninstalled but I was able to do it, no problem in options.
Yes, changing the buttons made all the difference (easy to do in options - left mouse button for special 1, right mouse button to fire since it is needed to enter the level). Since my computer requires pressing Fn+F1 to register as an F1 button press, it was impossible otherwise and I had to quit the first time.
Sequence videos were amusing so going to pick that up along with empire at war.

just played a bunch of the binding of isaac found it rather amusing though not a huge fan of the story/artstyle, no achievement yet either.
I liked Sequence but it is what it is. You know what you're getting going in and the grinding got annoying. Didn't take long but you're battling percentage chances which is always soul-sucking.

Agree on BoI's story/art. There's decent gameplay ideas there though but with so few fun enemies to fight there's little of value beyond your first clear or three.

considering Dejobaan Complete Pack,
NOOO DONT DO IT CHECK ABOVE JUST GET FOR THE AWESOME NONE OF THE OTHERS
Hrm im completely new to buying games off of steam, wanted to pick up Magic: DOTP 2012, I noticed they have a complete bundle for about $25. Does buying a complete bundle mean that when they release more DLC I will get that DLC free? As I know they are putting out more DLC in january.
The wise thing is to assume NO. Steam doesn't do Season Pass style DLC, not yet at least. SR3 is the only one to try and there it is EXPLICIT.

And the complete pack for Magic 2012 is a silly investment. Look at how many of those DLCs are garbage like foil cards and full deck unlocks. Cherry-pick just the actual gameplay related ones.

Yeah I realize the complete pack is a joke, I am familiar with DOTP 2012 on my xbox.. but just got a laptop for xmas and wanted some mobile MTG fun!
Total comes to 15.02 for the game and the real DLC. Besides the foil conversions just make the cards look silly imo, and unlocking the decks is the fun part.

Thanks for the info though =)

Ugh, Rise of the Immortals is a PITA. Only managed 8 assists on my first game, took 45 minutes. Not sure I really want to put in the time to figure out how to get to 20 in a single match.

Ditto, I really want Stronghold 3. I've never played any of them but always remember staring at the box when you could still find PC games in stores and wanting it. I can wait for it to hit $10 though.
I was able to learn the control scheme just fine. It's not that hard to figure out. And around halfway through the level, there's a part where you have to ride a branch down to another area. It's a very easy achievement to get.
This. It took a bit of getting used to but I've been playing for a while. I fell in love with the game's mellowness and minimalism. The winter achievement is easier to get when you realize that the distance can be covered on the branch even if you're spinning 360 degrees on it, and you don't have to survive the landing for it to pop.

Today I'm in for a couple of RPGs that will sink into my backlog with little hope of seeing daylight soon. Yesterday I traded a copy of Bulletstorm for Disciples 3: Resurrection, so I still feel  cuz it didn't drop to $5.
That game looks kinda like a completely vertical, buildingless Mirror's Edge. Does that sound right or am I missing the point? Looks fun regardless.
Actually it's a skydiving game where you get points for basically getting close to buildings, going through maze like metal structures, flipping off fans, among other things. I like it but then again I am a big fan of pilotwings.

Just keep in mind if you do go for the achievement, you have to play until you unlock the ability to cheer or flip off fans before you can finish all the holiday levels (you need it for holiday level 5 which is a son of a bitch).
