Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Which retail CD Keys are accepted on Steam?
Okay, now that I've actually looked at what the entire catalog looks like? I don't even want to win that prize. I'm just enough OCD that owning all those games would totally stress me out. My backlog is big enough as it is, know what I mean?

I'd be much happier with the 10- or 5-pack off my wish list.

Unless 2,000 free games also came with 2,000 free hours to try them all out!
Yea I thought the exact same thing when I saw that list. Plus, it takes the fun out of looking forward to future summer/winter sales. I didn't win the grand prize - meh, I'm cool with it.
Is anyone having trouble launching Steam games using the client? I've tried to launch Bastion for about 15 minutes now and had no such luck. I checked with my roommate and he's having the same issue.
Downtime announcement.

Seems like I can launch the game, but the Cloud sync is all wacky. Even on games that doesn't use the Steam Cloud, it still gives a statement, after launching said game, that Steam won't be able to sync it with their Cloud servers.

On the bright side, as they are aware of it means that they are on top of fixing the issue. Give it some time before everything's all honky-dory again.
Just out of interest, which "end boss" are you referring to?

Mom is the just the first. Once you've killed her, you have to do it all over again but with another layer of dungeons.

And another, I think.

The first incarnation, kept getting to the Depths and eventually dying due to poor available upgrades in the dungeon roll / lack of available hearts to pick up / wrong choices in the devil rooms.

I believe there's a demo. Think I tried it a long time ago and it struck me as a generic and tepid FPS.

Edit: Never mind, no demo. It was a free weekend that I tried it on.

Have I just gotten so used to the winter sale page that I never noticed the tiny picture of a man's face in all of the store headings? Steam Headlines, Demos, Videos, Specials, Featured Mac Games...is it from SAM?

CNSLj.png
Maybe you're using a skin?
Yeah, that's probably it. I used SAM to unlock glitched achievements. I deleted it, so it must be stored in my Steam directory. I thought someone was trolling the service for a second.

Just to pitch in my $0.02, Dreamkiller is pretty bad. Much like Mooby I tried it on the free weekend a while back. Honestly I wanted to like this game since it seems like a fun concept, but the execution was lacking. It's a rather generic, subpar shooter. I wouldn't recommend it even at $2.50. =(

Laura Bailey voices the protag. That's enough to make me wanna drop the $2.50. I'm a sad little man.

Still, can't possibly be as awful as DNF.

That really sucks. Hot chick killing big ass monsters seems like a concept that is hard to fuck up. I guess I will have to pass then.
Hey, if I leave this thread and come back, I don't have to read 18 pages. What's up with that? :D
There's literally no money left amongst us all.
There's literally no money left amongst us all.
Speak for yourself...I'm too busy not playing all of the games I just bought
Finally beat Binding of Isaac for the first time after 8.5 total hours of trying to get to the end boss. It's crap that it doesn't tell you what each item does in-game when you click on it at the collectibles screen.
Yeah, I was surprised it's not even listed on the Collectibles screen. Fortunately, this is around.
That really sucks. Hot chick killing big ass monsters seems like a concept that is hard to fuck up. I guess I will have to pass then.
Exactly, I was immediately excited when I saw the game. Then I noticed the meta score and was completely baffled. How does one mess up such a great formula.

I like how my Steam account is going to show I'm not playing anything soon, because I've spent so much time logged onto my husband's Steam account playing Skyrim. :D

I think I will just have to sate my Laura Bailey lust with another playthrough of Bloodrayne. A couple of youtube videos convince me that if Serious Sam and Painkiller bore me and Hard Reset repulses me, this will surely insult me.

Yeesh. Just looked at my Bethesda coupon and discovered Rage isn't a qualifying title. I had someone looking to trade for it, but because he didn't have anything I wanted and I figured I'd hold it until Rage went on sale, I kept it. Bleah.
So was it ever decided if a new thread was coming or will this one be living for a while longer?
I'll probably recreate it over the weekend. Need to revise the OP and I'm too busy with work deadlines right now.

Incidentally, it looks like nobody wants to help with the OP, even during the big sales. In previous Steam threads, people posted lists of the sale games all the time. Can anyone suggest why they're not using the Wiki?

Probably because no one wants to tackle posting dozens and dozens of properly formatted links and prices. I've made a couple midweek deal updates, but one time they were having like 50 things on sale and there was no way no how I was going to slog through all that.

Its possible that during the big sales people want to try and keep up with the thread.

That, and I'm lazy. And I never check the OP.

I've updated a wiki post in the past and was literally berated for having done so and the OP reverted all my changes. I don't really care to involve myself in that way anymore.

Runs fine for me, although steam has been kinda wonky lately with the community going on and off for a while.

I was wondering the same thing during the holiday sale. I'd constantly check the front page and find that it wasn't up to date. I have no problem helping out with it during major sales, so long as I have access to my laptop or PC (something I didn't have during this past sale as I was away).

I actually wanted to make a change to the OP to make the trading thread link more prominent, and then I copypasted the contents to scratchpad to work on it... and then like everything else this holiday break, I slacked... sorry east.

If people would actually refer to it, I'd help out to keep the OP up-to-date. I just figure that everyone more simply navigates to the front page of Steam. It's a lot easier to find what you like personally even during big sales. And when the big sales aren't around, Steam does a really good job of letting you know what they've got to offer.

Lol I was looking for a coupon to get PAM for cheap yesterday. Turns out I've had one this whole time. 25% off Meridian games, which just so happens to include PAM.

If you really want the coupon, add me on Steam and we can work something out. This will allow you to get the game for about $1.63.

If you guys could help with the V3 thread, it would be fantastic. Mid-week sales don't matter so much unless the deal is something really special. But I'm thinking we should at least make sure to post the weekend deal, and every day of major themed sales.

I would love it if everybody uses my established format because I think it's the most attractive and useful (percentages off are not actually useful). But if you only have time to stick the list in, that's better than nothing. Just make a note next to the place where we mention when a section was updated (Updated 1/4 etc.) and someone else can go back and fix the formatting later.

I want to do more with the thread, but I've ended up with the unenviable problem of a real-life workload that never seems to calm down. Also, for me to put in the effort here, it needs to be appreciated. The occasional thanks are great, but actually pitching in with the Wiki is 10 times better thanks. That would help me maintain enthusiasm and put in more energy even when things are hectic.

Of course, I also appreciate everyone who posts in the thread and keeps it alive, even when we're slacking with the OP. The discussion is consistently great, and we don't get the annoying entitlement posts that show up in most other deal threads. (The consistently high quality of Steam sales may be a factor, but still!) This thread is one of the reasons I'm proud to be a CAG.

I would like to say thank you, if I had said it in the past its past due for an update. I love these threads and that they are not only about sales but steam in general. I have tried to edit the first post in the past but self consciousness got the better of me, I seem to do better on a case to case basis for assistance. Thanks again and I look forward to v3!

I'll help out when I can, I visit this thread almost everyday, but I don't always have the time.

Another thing keeping me from updating the OP is that not many people check it, it kinda just gets buried in the thread like any other post, which is why we get people posting: "Which retail games activate on Steam?" or people posting here with their trades and such. Most people just pay attention to the last few pages, and don't even think to look at the OP (I know I never look at the OP, but that might just be because I check the Steam front page every day).

If we get enough people to actually look at the OP and appreciate it, then I'll probably be a big contributor to the OP updating. Otherwise, if people aren't going to actually use it, then why even bother?

Always appreciate the time you spend on this thread, east, and I'll definitely stick to your format when I make updates to the OP. ;)
My news years resolution is to play and beat 50 games this year from my Steam library.
I'll see that resolution and raise you 2 half-beaten games. ;)

haha

I'm on my way to finishing Serious Sam 3 BFE, Saint's Row The Third, and Trine this week.

Though Trine and SR3 I had finished most of before the new year, but I'm still counting them!

This is by far my favorite thread on CAG, so thanks to eastx and the other CAGs who contribute to making this a great place to visit every day. I'll do my best to help with the OP if I can.

I'm surprised that Steam doesn't have a blog type of feature. I would actually use it to keep track of the games I beat this year, probably just use the profile instead, seem like a pretty obvious feature they would have imo

Don't know if this is the place to ask but does anyone have a THQ or Titan Quest coupon? Or does anyone have Titan Quest Immortal to trade?

I can make an offer, thanks!

Here's the link to the Steam trade thread for all your trading and selling needs. :) It's mentioned in the OP but I think we should make it a bit more obvious in V3 of the thread. Anyway, happy trading and good luck with the coupon.

I'm not sure if you're just looking for the expansion or not, but just to be sure make sure you get Titan Quest Gold (or Immortal Throne if you already have TQ). IM adds a lot of extra content that truly rounds out the TQ experience to a large degree. Also, make sure to visit TitanQuest.net for the latest patches, mods, etc. The game is no longer supported by the now defunct developer but TitanQuest.net is host to a community-made series of patches that fix and update all manner of things.
