Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Got Rage and played about 40 minutes of it. It's a damn shame that id has followed Epic down the path of putting consoles first and then getting around to tossing scraps to the members of the Glorious PC Gaming Master Race. It used to be that you could count on Carmack's latest to crush your puny rig and require massive upgrades. No longer. While it looks great from a distance and runs like glass on my killer rig, close up the textures are disappointing compared to stuff like Battlefield 3 and Crysis 2. Other than it chugging like hell as textures loaded for a minute when leaving the first mission area to return to base, it runs fast.

By the way, I am one of the few that doesn't have Plants vs. Zombies, and $2 is an excellent price. Is the game truly as enjoyable as it's made out to be?
I was among the doubters for a long time. Then I picked it up in a "what the hell" moment. It's good. It's enjoyable. If you don't buy it for $2 now, you're only hurting yourself (and the small, starving Malaysian who only gets to eat when the game sells).

Plants vs zombies is really cool and I'm not a big fan of tower defense or whatever genre this is. I would buy it for $2 but I have it on PS3 and I just got an iphone which I'd rather have it on.

I have Plants vs. Zombies on Steam, PS3 downloadable, PS3 retail, 360 downloadable, 360 retail, iOS, and Android and I still want more.

Dammit, I was just thinking about those games about a week ago. The fates are laughing at me.

Never played any of them before, but I used to be a pretty big Star Wars fan. I loved the TIE Fighter series and Rebel Assault 2 back in the day. Are these any good?

Note I've read about people having issues with the Jedi Knight/Dark Forces games on modern systems. Might want to check the Steam forums for the games before you buy.

I have no idea if they hold up, but they were really great when they came out, at least the later ones. The jedi gameplay was very satisfying. I loved going up against Sith with the force powers and lightsaber.

The only game I haven't played in the pack is Dark Forces 1, the rest of them are great games. Dark Forces 2 was one of my favorite games back when it was released, your enjoyment may vary depending on how much you can stand how outdated the graphics are though. If you're a Star Wars fan and haven't played these games, you're seriously missing out.. they're some of the best Star Wars games available.

I've been playing through Jedi Knight II on my Win 7 PC with no problems. Haven't tried the others on this system though.

Funny thing is I remember watching the trailer for the original Dark Forces and thinking it looked so real at the time. I think the trailer was on the original Sam and Max disc.

Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy were both a lot of fun when they came out. I remember you could breeze through Academy by using your lightsabers and crouching.

I have this pack and a Win7-64 machine. Just to let you guys know.....Dark Forces 1 is an old DOS base game and if I remember right, the steam version runs in a dosbox emulation. Had no problems with the game aside from very dated graphics and gameplay. Jedi Knight/Mysteries ran fair. From what I remember, I got it running correctly, but had to do quite a few setting tweaks to fix graphical bugs that Windows 7 was causing. The more recent games ran the best. You should have no problems playing this on a modern system if you are willing to play with the settings (as always, steam forums are the best place to find the settings and tweaks required).
Jedi Outcast was fantastic when it came out. Have no idea if it holds up.
It does and so does Academy. I played all of them around a year ago and they all held up with the exception of the graphics. And the gameplay far outweighs the dated graphics. If you want to have fun, get these games. If you only play video games for pretty visuals then I doubt you would ever consider anything over 2 years old so you would stay away anyway.
Note I've read about people having issues with the Jedi Knight/Dark Forces games on modern systems. Might want to check the Steam forums for the games before you buy.
ASUS G73JH Windows 7, no issues.

Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight is a game that deserves a modern remake. It had such stupidly entertaining heart. Like an old west treasure hunt movie. I remember DF2 and MotS when I hear the Star Wars soundtrack over the actual Star Wars movies just because those games recut SW music wholesale for their tracks. The music there was CD tracks though so you'll need to hum your own versions of the SW themes to enjoy those two, if you can stand them long enough.

Anyway, I never once understood the love for Jedi Outcast. It was pleasant enough but the level design was boring and awful. The mechanics were sound and they worked well enough that Jedi Academy's "Let's just make one level of everything." was fun, but JO just felt so... lifeless. I don't know.

Also, best part of JO/JA? NPC spawning hundreds of Jedis and bad guys and having big melees.

What was the price of this Star Wars bundle during the Winter sale? I know I bought it there, but I can't remember how much I paid.
Note I've read about people having issues with the Jedi Knight/Dark Forces games on modern systems. Might want to check the Steam forums for the games before you buy.
Seconding this. I picked up the collection during the last Steam Winter sales, and DF2: Jedi Knight screws up graphically in Win7, rendering it unplayable. There's a straightforward fix however in the Steam forums that resolves this. It ends up not being the ideal setup for graphic quality, but definitely playable.

I'll go ahead and also note that Dark Forces, Jedi Outcast, and Jedi Academy had no issues. I imagine that running on the same engine, Mysteries of the Sith will run into the same issues as Jedi Knight. The only manual configuration you might need to do for JO and JA would be editing some ini files by hand if you want widescreen resolutions. Relatively painless, thanks to the guides at Widescreen Gaming.

I may make an on the whim purchase of the Jedi Knight pack. I own all the games in some form or another, but I'd like them on Steam for sure.

The coolest thing I remember about JO was how much time I spent playing multiplayer in 8th grade. So many epic lightsaber duels with people online...on dialup. We booted up Academy at a LAN party last year, and it was fun for a while. People still play that online, could be a decent game to play some multiplayer on.
What was the price of this Star Wars bundle during the Winter sale? I know I bought it there, but I can't remember how much I paid.
Lowest it's ever been is $60, which seems a bit rich for me. Most of the games in it are nearing the age when they can start collecting social security.
lol wrong one bud

at least i think he was asking about the one on sale now.
That's what I get for thinking everyone else would be interested in the same thing as I am  For those curious, though, it's cheaper to buy each Star Wars game individually at 75% off, which they've all hit, than to buy the complete Star Wars collection, even when it is on sale. This Jedi Knight pack is a friggin steal, so now I have to buy it.

I love the Jedi Knight series, I grew up on those games. I highly recommend them, especially at only $5. Plus nearly all machines should be able to run them just fine at this point, I got a cheap BF laptop and they all ran perfectly on there.

Ended up buying the Star Wars Jedi Knight Collection. I was worried that the games wouldn't run on my computer because I've heard they have trouble, but all of them ended up working thankfully. Nice price for 5 good games. On a side note, I realized that I had actually played Dark Forces and DF2 as a kid, so this is a surprise nostalgia trip for me :D

Picked up the Jedi Knight collection. I've bought them all throughout the years, but Dark Forces was the first game I ever played on a computer, way back on my Macinotsh Performa. Ah, memories.

On a cold rainy night in early 1998, I picked up a used copy of Jedi Knight. (Remember when you could actually buy USED PC GAMES?) It was unwittingly one of the most important nights and games of my life. I may have only had a 4MB Voodoo 1 card in my puny Pentium 133 Compaq system, but it managed to smear the textures around on those Legoeque low-poly-count models to make it look really good for the times. (Colored lighting didn't arrive until the MotS expansion.) The FMV parts were cheesy and everything was gray, but it SOUNDED like Star Wars with John Williams' score and those iconic Ben Burtt sound effects. I remember email a friend and raving about it.

I never finished it. I would get motion sick from the weapons sway and head bob and was always getting lost in the mono-textured environments. I bought the guide with the intention of just taking a guided tour though the game, but I never did. I got Unreal shortly after that, then a new computer, then Half-Life, more upgrades, then Quake 3 and so on.

Along the way of upgrading my PC to handle the escalating needs of the new titles, I picked up enough knowledge to snag an IT job in 1999 that I work til this day. Through my time there, I made connections that led to one opportunity after another to the point where if I hadn't snagged this job, I can't even imagine what other direction my life would've taken.

And it all started with buying a game that sparked an ever-escalating series of games and the machines needed to run them. I won't be buying these because seeing Half-Life these days makes me want to tear my eyes out and these are even older. After playing RAGE and Crysis and Battlefield 3 and so on, there's just no going back.

Had to buy the Jedi Knight collection. Great games, and I don't have to boot in some compatibility mode to play my physical copies.

I forgot about that, but anyway, I purchased it along with a bunch of other things in the sale and I don't feel like piecing everything out.

Do they all have music?
Do they all have music?
Are you asking if the games themselves have music or specifically on my computer if the music works? The answer to both is that yes, they do.

Oh man, I played the crap out of Dark Forces II back in the day on the MSN Gaming Zone. Still have the discs kicking around.

Brings back memories.
Ah, that's brilliant! I'd held off on buying them as Jedi Knight and Mysteries of the Sith were released musicless on Steam (due to the originals having the score as CD audio). If they've added it back in, then it's instabuy for me! :) Thanks for the update!
I just double checked. Jedi Knight definitely has music, but I'm not sure that Mysteries of the Sith does in fact. You might be right. However there is a fix I found on the Steam forums here: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=996112

Not sure if it works, but it should.

Thought I should mention that you can get a permanent 15% off at GamersGate if you have IGN prime (free trial available). It does not seem to come with any restrictions, you can use it as many times as you like. Works for pre-orders and they don't mention any time limitation.

And for those who missed all the IGN prime excitement a few pages back, you can also get free Steam keys for Rochard and the first King Arthur game.

Found it here:

I played Dark Forces on my Vista64 PC a few months ago and it ran with no problems. What I do remember from the hour or so that I played was that I could not find a way to save the game.... plus the graphics are (obviously) VERY dated. It got so bad on occasions that stormtroopers in the distance were shooting at me, and I could not see them because the melted into the blocky background... oh well.

Can you save the game?

I think it saved after every mission, if I recall. I don't think there were mid mission saves like with the rest of the games (since those only gave you one life, I was f9ing like a mother).
