Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
I was waiting on a sale for this; would prefer the XBLA version (like the interface and sitting on the couch playing it), but I really wanted the new version. Surely the PC online community is thriving!?
I had the original DotP for 360, and I have to say PC version with mouse feels a lot more natural. If it ever goes on sale for 360 I'll probably get that version too tho!

The PC version's interface IS an awful console lift, although to be fair even on consoles it's pretty lousy.

Luckily, in game, you can click where and how and when you want to where it matters, but those menus man.

Not sure about MtG Planeswalker 2012, but the original was buggy as hell and was never patched proper.

I could barely get through a game without it freezing. They may have fixed 2012, but buyer beware.

I played the heck out of the previous Magic game (steam says 218 hours but I left it running a lot) and I never had a problem with it freezing.

I didn't think it would go on sale until xmas sale so I am super excited to get it now. Got one for me and my wife time to kick her butt! She always beats me in the physical card game .

Finally got to try Hard Reset. For anyone on the fence. Think a cyberpunk Painkiller with upgradable weapons and environmental kills.

Game is fucking awesome, and well it's one of those games I feel good supporting the developers because it's very rare to see a shooter like this nowadays.

For those on the fence, the new MTG 2012 game isn't anywhere near as buggy as the first.

I also bit on Dangerous Highschool Girls in Trouble. The reviews are really solid.
I had this problem with the last game, and I just tried the demo for 2012 and it doesn't seem to be fixed at all. It seems like the decks aren't balanced very well at the beginning, and barring a very lucky draw you just lose because they have stuff you can not counter.
Crap, yes! I played for about an hour last night and kept getting crushed...tried various strategies but as you said, the two decks available in the beginning are way off. I'll keep at it, but it's def. frustrating.

Dumb question...might I like Magic the Gathering if I've NEVER played it, but like Card Fighters Clash on the Neo Geo and DS?

Probably, Magic is a really fun game. The only drawbacks of the physical card game are that it can be expensive to make competitive decks, and that there isn't always someone around who can play a game with you.

I would recommend trying the demo if you have time. Otherwise, just buy it. It is cheaper than a starter deck (or whatever they are called now) in real life.

Magic is a lot of fun and the biggest drawback of the real game is the expense. Duels of the Planeswalkers solves the problem of the expense though as the cost of entry is all you need to spend on it whereas $5 in real magic buys you a booster pack with a little left over.

Cool! Thanks guys...well, $5, what the heck! And maybe I'll finally have a clue what it is

I remember it starting to be a big deal like...15ish years ago or something, with some people really in to it, but I was too busy playing PC games :D

The daily deal isn't much today, but there seems to be a massive sale on Paradox Interactive games. Anybody have any recommendations from their catalog? There seem to be a lot of hardcore sims so I am less inclined to trust metacritic scores.

A lot of the Paradox games that people tend to get excited about, Mount & Blade, Magicka, Europa Universalis, King Arthur, etc. Have been cheaper before, so I'd wait for daily deals, or pass.

Played against the first 3 opponents in Magic and so far I'm liking it. Definitely brings back memories of the old days when I played the card game.

I did pass up on that Highschool girl game and will probably pass up on today's deal on Restaurant Empire II...But I did buy Magicka from Amazon so these two games will keep me busy till the next sale :)

Hmm I might get magicka of course after I see if it's a daily or not. I will probably get the complete pack.

If anyone wants the base game it's $2.50 on Amazon digital download no clue if the code is steamable. I would do that but I wanna get the complete game so I am waiting.

I like how Magic: The Gathering is compatible with Alien FX. Pretty! I seriously suck at this game. I've lost twice to the first enemy. I'm having a bunch of fun though.

Yeah I seen that this morning but no clue if the Amazon's code is the same. I am sure it is but I have seen no reports if it is or not.

Yeah I seen that did not know if Amazon had it steamable or not and Amazon confirms that it is.

Now that I look at my steam collection I did not think I owned this many Paradox games. Mount and Blade Collection, Elven Legacy Collection, and King Arthur Collection.

I will recommend King Arthur Collection if it drops to under $10 for the complete pack. It's a RTS at it's core but it has some very nice RPG choices as leveling up units and a branching choose your path story (kinda like how Starcraft II gives you choices).

It's a Steamworks game, so it requires Steam to play. $2.50 is a good price for the base game alone. I haven't kept up with the DLC's much, but the only one that's even slightly worth it is the Vietnam DLC (one mission + a few new gears).

The thing I like about Magicka is that it doesn't require everyone to own the DLC to play it. For example, you join the Vietnam map, made by your friend who owns the DLC. You will not be required to own the DLC to play with your friend. Obviously, if you're a solo player, you will need the DLC. I haven't been keeping up with Magicka recently (or any game, really.. damn you League of Legends!), so take my words with a grain of salt.

Big Ol' Paradox sale, Cities In Motion is todays deal. Everything is 50% off from Paradox though. Any non-super complicated RTS' I should be looking out for?

Picked up the Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 expansion for the hubby. I believe he's unlocked everything, but I've unlocked less than 20 cards in my game. I'll get the DLC for myself when it's on sale.
I like how Magic: The Gathering is compatible with Alien FX. Pretty! I seriously suck at this game. I've lost twice to the first enemy. I'm having a bunch of fun though.
The first duel is very hard since I found the green deck completely worthless against it, and the white deck relies on good draws before your opponent starts cheesing it out with that one creature that gains +1/+1 every time any creature on the battlefield dies. The good news is that after you unlock his deck, you can take your revenge on the computer using the same strategy. I did that against the green deck AI and was laughing my ass off the entire time as I slowly demolished his creature lineup. :)

Sounds much more tempting than I had imagined it to be. Thanks for the tip.

I couldn't help but notice that Eleven Legacy was just featured as a Daily Deal a couple of days ago and is almost a full dollar higher now during this sale.
Guys, when can we expect the next BIG steam sale? Thanksgiving/Black Friday?
Torture, isnt it? I cant decide if my life was better before I knew about Steam or after. On the plus side, I can get tons of hours of gaming enjoyment for minimal cost, with tons of convenience and a large community. On the down side, I am now trapped in an endless loop of Christmas mornings (daily deals), only most mornings I awaken to coal. If only we had the technology for cryogenic hibernation...

Might want to hold off -- strong possibility that Magicka complete collection will be a daily on Steam. Could be a better bargain overall.

I agree. Of the four days remaining in the Paradox sale, I think it's a safe bet that one will be dedicated to the Magicka series and one will be dedicated to the Mount and Blade series, as they are generally Paradox's top performers on Steam.

I picked up the Cities in Motion collection today and am hoping for a Europa Universalis themed day.

Magic seems cool, but after like 4 tries I cannot beat the first guy in the demo. Same thing happened when I tried the demo for the last one. I'm a complete magic newbie though.

Still, I can't really buy something where I can't even finish the demo. I may pick this up later if it goes cheaper.

I had the same issue too, but stuck with it and I'm really enjoying it. Finally made it to level 2 lol!

I'm a completely Magicka newbie and find myself frantically hitting buttons in random order to come up with something. Maybe one day I'll be a little better.

Feel free to add me - IronSerif

Well, it's $2.48 on Amazon and registers on Steam, so I imagine it may be never that it gets cheaper. The trick in the early going is laser beams really, using lightning and arcane. Later as you learn some of the Magicks you can do some ridiculous stuff (and muscle memory lightning bolts!)

Magic != Magicka.

I've heard the decks you start with in DotP are pretty underwhelming, especially the green deck. The bad thing about no deck creation, is that you're stuck with what they give you meaning your deck has obvious weaknesses to the other premade decks, and the game becomes more about luck than the actual card game.

Uh oh...I predict this is what will happen to me, and I already paid for it. Oh well

I used to play Magic, I despised Duel of the Planeswalkers. The decks they give you suck and the only way to unlock the better cards is to keep wining with that deck. When there was that rumor you'd be able to trade in Steam games, I was excited just because I could get rid of DotP.

haha sorry, I misread Magic to mean Magicka...

Anyways, I played through some of the campaign through Magic: Duel of the Planeswalker and got up to the 4th or 5th battle. It's pretty fun, and challenging at times because of the pre-made decks. I just played a game with the Artifact Deck and I'm definitely not liking that one...
