Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Would I be able to finish TQ without installing patches/mods?

Game looks really fun and I'd love to play it, but I'm incapable of installing patches/mods. I'd hate to dump a ton of time into it only to be unable to finish it.
Deathspank: The Baconing is 50% off ($7.49). It also has a new DLC character, which is also 50% off ($0.99).

Pretty good since the Deathspank games rarely go on sale. I've been waiting for nearly a year for a sale on Thongs of Virtue.
That's really tempting. I like the Deathspank games a lot, but I've been waiting for Thongs to go on sale forever too. My fingers hurt from crossing them. Knowing EA and Steam's relationship now is making me less than hopeful.

No clue about the mods but Steam always downloads the latest updated version of the game. So if you buy it, you will get the latest patched version and any future patches will download automatically via Steam.

Man this is really tempting. I've been waiting for something in the Deathspank series to go on sale. Guess I'll have to pick this one up too!

There's a community patch that installs just like a normal patch that's highly recommended as it fixes a lot of bugs.
As for TQ: the TQ Gold bundle is always, and I mean always, under $10 at Amazon. As others have stated, Immortal Throne improves the original interface, most especially by adding a caravan that appears at the market in most cities you visit, acting as a free item bank for you. Install TQ, and Install Immortal Throne, then play from the beginning. You don't have to wait to finish the first to start the second; it's a GUI upgrade and an extra chapter, all in one.

It's also about 80 hours of gameplay to get through the whole thing. At $5, or $13, it's one of your better cost-per-hour games out there.

Also, the Fan Patch is a must if you are planning to complete the game. It fixes bugs that the designers didn't have time to patch out before the studio was dissolved. the Fan Patch is easy to apply, stable, and Steam-compatible.

Good luck with this great game.
Right, I've looked around a bit and I believe I'm right in saying that the Fanpatch I need is here?
I've downloaded the demo of Everyday Genius. I've heard good things about it.
I bought it on Hal's recommendation last year. Loved it. Played for about 40 hours and still haven't finished the main campaign.

Read on to my reply below.
Right, I've looked around a bit and I believe I'm right in saying that the Fanpatch I need is here?
Yes! That's the one. It's a breeze to install. Install TQ and Immortal Throne in Steam. Then download the Fan Patch 1.17a from the site you referenced. Run it when it's downloaded. It fixes a ton of little bugs in the game, and a graphical glitch that makes the final chapter unplayable on newer machines. Seriously - couldn't be easier. There's no mod manager or anything like that.

I played with a Druid character and I was floored when I read all the little bugs that the Fan Patch fixes for my character. No changes to the story, just that damage for some spells wasn't being calculated correctly and things like that.

There is a late-game glitch in the Immortal Throne chapter (like, 60+ hours into the game) that the Fan Patch fixes. The story goes that the Iron Lore development team was only kept on long enough to finish Immortal Throne, and terminated as soon as the expansion was released. There were no subsequent bug fixes.

(However, the dev team regrouped as Crate Entertainment, and is currently developing a new game called Grim Dawn, which you can follow here.)

Have fun. PM me if you have any trouble.

I have been playing it off and on for the last few weeks. It's an excellent time waster!
Titan Quest is a must buy right? It's on sale for $5 and I am at the page to buy it, just need confirmation that's it's good, lol.

Anyway DNF is a great deal for $10. Fun game, and while some people may be expecting more out of it, if your looking for a classic run and gun shooter, DNF will be a great choice and a steal for $10.
If you like hack n slash RPGS it most definitely is!!!! Awesome game I have put in like 50 hours with some other CAGs and still have not beat it!

Definitely, get the fan patch since it fixes bugs in the game.

Damn, DNF is tempting at ten bucks but I know it will be cheaper probably during the holiday sale so I will pass.

I don't particularly care for the hack 'n slash mechanics as much as deep character customization. The gold standard for me there is Sacred 2. Does Titan Quest compare in that way, or is it more like Diablo?

I love Deathspank but the gameplay is the worst of mindless Diablo crud. Baconing is gonna have to go a lot cheaper to convince me to dive back in for a THIRD helping of the same game.

Duke Nukem? Just buy Quake 4. It's not great but it's a damn sight better than DNF. Eugh.

Dead Rising 2 Off The Record? It's the same game as Dead Rising 2, almost verbatim, only with a worse plot and two new bosses. The changes are numerous but small. They're practically a 1.01 patch for DR2. It's pathetic, and the changed story is for the worse so I don't see who this is supposed to appeal to. Unless you hate story completely, DR2 is the better buy for a first-timer and for a vet, there's just not enough here to merit grinding Frank up to level 50 again.

I should probably play the first Deathspank I downloaded on Xbox before even thinking about the third installment.

From what I've heard, the third one isn't that great, anyway. Too many sequels too soon. We haven't even had a chance to miss the franchise.

If you like Diablo-esque isometric clickfests with tons of loot, I can't recommend Titan Quest enough. There are lots of quests and countless hours of replay, plus it looks pretty. I've only finished the story once and haven't gotten around to doing it again on a harder difficulty.

Everyday Genius: SquareLogic is strangely addictive at times. It's definitely a fun math puzzle game worth buying.

Decided to buy Titan Quest Gold. The game looks great, and the controls look pretty straightforward. Similar to Torchlight, and I like the game's atmosphere that I saw from YouTube videos.

Deathspank is all about the writing. Classic stuff. Deathspank is basically The Tick and just as hilarious. Even the Baconing is funny as hell. Problem is the gameplay is just limp. Hell, TOV and Baconing, the two sequels, reuse practically everything. The same (great) music shows up in all three games.

You are basing your review of Deathspank and Dead Rising 2 based on the prior entries.
So what about those people who have not played any of the prior games in the series?
Are these two games better than their prequels, or would you say hold off until the original games are on sale?

Actually, I did kinda touch on that for DR2, really. DR2:OtR seems to be geared more towards veterans of DR2 than new guys and I think the story in DR2 is just better. For me, it would come down to the idea that, unless you really, really want the checkpoints added into DR2:OtR, the added stuff for OtR does not outweigh the, in my opinion, better told story in DR2. But they are still the SAME game. I cannot stress how same they are enough. Cutscenes may be different and there's incremental differences all over the place but it's the same thing all around so if you get one you probably won't be back for the other unless you want OtR's sandbox mode.

Bottom line, for the better told story, I recommend vanilla DR2 for anyone who wants to get into DR2. Wait for that to appear cheap and get it that way.

The Baconing? If you have NOT played a Deathspank game then by all means download the demo. I would not want to meet the person who does not smile at just about ANY conversation in the game. In Hothead's defense, TOV refined Deathspank a lot with better quests but it did not really make the basic combat better. Baconing seemed just as hilarious and with a third helping of the same thing. If it's your first taste then I do heartily recommend you at least try it. If there's no Steam demo, check Xbox or PS3 for a demo. Or demo one of the two previous Deathspank games.

I think that's a spot on assessment. The humor is definitely the high point of the Deathspank games. Personally I try to play them in bursts in order to not get worn out on the gameplay.

On a side note in case anyone missed it, Hothead released the Deathspank OST as a free download. Check it out here if you're interested. Pretty nice. :)

I haven't played Sacred 2, but you can combine classes in TQ. With the expansion, there's 45 different class combinations and there are different builds for each combo.

Add stats, and you add another layer to the build. A Thane (Warfare + Storm) can be built to deal strength based damage or intelligence/magic damage.

It's my preferred action-RPG, and I'm looking forward to see what Crate brings.

I've been watching for Duke to get down to ten bucks at my brother's request, but now that it's twenty at full price and he's not likely to play it before the November and December sale events, I might hold off for 66% or 75% off to gift it to him. I know that the PC version had better load times among other advantages over the console versions. Anyone know how playing it on a Mac compares?

Titan Quest seems tempting.
I downloaded the Titan's Quest demo from Steam and having trouble getting the game to start-up. Anyone else have this problem?
I had a problem running the demo also (Win 7 64x) I remember having the same problem when this game went on sale during the summer and wanting to try it. I saw this fix today on the steam forums and this worked for me, thanks sKin1337!

"If you're getting the virtual memory error like I was, do the following.

Head over to your steam folder, ie: c>programfiles>steam>steampps>common>Titan's Quest Demo

Right click on the Titan's Quest.exe file, hit properties, hit compatibility, and change to Vista Service Pack 2. Close out, run it as administrator, and you should be good to go."

I had a lot of fun with the game, reminded me of the first Dungeon Siege. Only thing I didn't like was how small your inventory is at the beginning of the game, hopefully it gets bigger later. I had to make so many trips back to town to sell stuff, but at least they make it easy to do with the portal. Still not sure I am going to get it yet since I have so many games backlogged, and I know this will be 5 again soon.
I should probably play the first Deathspank I downloaded on Xbox before even thinking about the third installment.
That's really not a bad idea. Or at least give it a try so you know what the gameplay is like.

Personally, I loved it and have been kicking myself for the past year for not picking up ToV at the same time. But, I would agree that a lot of my enjoyment of the game had to do with the writing.

Anyone see a Torchlight Demo in their games? Might have installed it and forgot about it.

Picked up the Titan Quest Golden Pack deal with a help of a fellow CAG.

As mentioned before, I'm happy to help CAGs pick up Titan Quest Gold so long as they don't mind paying the UK price (£2.50). It's not as cheap as in the EU but it's still not bad.

Happy to accept payment in dollars (~$3.93) if that makes it easier.

Window of opportunity closes at 5pm GMT when I go home from work :)

Titan Quest is awesome, but incredibly long. It's definitely a great purchase and should offer a lot of fun to anyone looking to scratch their Diablo itch. Co-op works great and has no problems. Pick it up.

Picked up Duke Nukem ForNEVER for $9.99. That was my price target for that game... plus 2K just sent me the new DLC for free from the 'First Access Club' I got from buying Borderlands GOTY.

I couldn't make the demo for Titan Quest run either, but it seems other folks have enountered this problem. I watched a trailer, looked at some reviews, and watched some gameplay footage before I bought. Looks like something I'd like. And for $5, I'm sure I'll get my money's worth.

Also, thanks for those that mentioned the Fan Patch. This is the first patch I've ever applied, so it was new territory for me. Luckily, it was a cinch.

Any thoughts on any of the Red Factions? I haven't played any of them. 1 and 2 look dated. Guerrilla looks pretty nice. Armageddon is a bit high for my backlog.

I've heard the PC port of Guerilla was very shoddy and that there's lots of performance problems with it. I've only played it on console but it was pretty damn fun on there.

While 1 may look dated, and my memories tainted with age - I always thought of it as a "poor mans half-life" - and thats okay....cause im poor.

2 was kinda lame, I don't really remember a whole bunch from the game, but the one thing I do remember is the story bored me to a point that it sat on the shelf for a year.

I have yet to play Guerrilla, and I have been waiting for another $5 day for this game so I could nab it. It's downloading now - but reviews seemed decent.

But you are definitely right about Armageddon - I am going to wait as well. Guerrilla has been on sale on steam , i think, twice since June, and if you are not a steam-only guy, Gamersgate and another site has had it for $5.

I feel like I have had many opportunities to buy it at 5 and that is probably what I will do with Armageddon

I can vouch for the PC version of Guerilla and say it runs just fine. I've been playing it off and on for a few months just to pop in and destroy some buildings (I bought it when it came out and finished it on Xbox) and it runs great!

You will need a decently beefy CPU to maintain framerate when buildings start to collapse into pieces as there are a lot of physics to calculate, but you can't really fault the porting for that.

I must have missed those sales, this is the cheapest I've seen Armageddon besides the onlive sale where it was about $9. I did a quick search for the sales but couldn't find any cheaper than this, can anyone confirm? Isnt the game a steamworks game? It shouldn't matter where you buy it.

I think it was when it first released there was a lot of performance issues, but they released a couple big patches after. When I played it, after the patches, it ran just fine.

The first one is fun, but you have to factor in how old the game is. I played it a few years ago, and shooting rockets to tunnel through to different areas was fun, but expect dated graphics and dated gameplay compared to the more recent Red Faction games. The second game was fairly forgettable from what I remember.

This is the cheapest that RF:Armageddon has been on sale on any of the digital distributor sites. I believe it may have been 50% on D2D a couple months ago. 75% is pretty decent considering it came out exactly 4 months ago. And yes, it is Steamworks.

I predict that it will take another 6 months to a year to reach the $5 mark. It seems that steam rarely does anything over 75% unless it's Indie (Alpha Protocol was a recent exception). Therefore, RF:A would have to permanently decrease to $20 and then be discounted an additional 75%. In all likelihood, you won't see it for $5 until the Summer Sale of 2012.
