Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Definitely grabbing the Painkiller and FEAR collections. Thinking about grabbing the first Bioshock so I have it on PC as well.

Also, Atom Zombie Smasher and Space Pirates and Zombies are pretty good games in my book. The SPAZ developers are really good dudes too.
Bioshock is the only game I regret buying on steam. I got it for 5 dollars but when it isn't having problems with a video card it's having problems with the sound card. I haven't found a PC it would run on without a problem. And believe me I'm no amateur with computers.
While those games are quite fun (I liked them a bunch) the game seems to be better suited for a controller than kb/m and that is mainly because of the mouse. Having to hold down both mouse buttons whilst moving it isn't the best.
I prefer to play with controllers, so that works for me. Overlord I is confirmed to work with controller. It sounds like II works with 360 controller as well, although the Steam page doesn't say so.
Great to know! I remember when CAG was flipping out because Vampire was finally on sale, and at $5, it seems an even more amazing price. Watching gameplay videos further cemented my interested. I'm definitely getting this one.
Ya.... I jumped on it thanks to that. It was an impulse buy and 13 didn't seem too bad. It's been 5 twice since then and I still haven't played it.

I will point out that the info you may need

Oof. Well, thanks for the heads up. I've already beat it on 360, but would rather have it on PC if I ever venture another play through. Already bought it, so at least I'll get to see how busted it is.
Could someone please look through the Halloween sale games and point out which ones have cooperative play? It would be a big help for me. PM the results if you're able to do so.
I know F.E.A.R. 3 has coop.
Would I be missing out if I just grabbed Painkiller Black? Are the other games in the Complete Pack unmissable?
Black is all you need. The other stuff in the pack is a bunch of bastard stepchildren.
Wish there was a demo for Vampire. I'm not normally into first-person action games, but the theme interests me.
It's one of my favorite RPGs, which is unusual since I'm not much of a fan of vampires. The writing and voice acting really does a good job with the characters though, and the game has a pretty fun take on vampires (I suppose that might be from the Masquerade setting but damned if I know). It's probably closest to Deus Ex 1 in terms of gameplay. Only with vampires.

Definitely would recommend giving it a go at $5. My favorite RPG of all time is a pretty close tie between this and Fallout 1.

My wallet sighed in relief since most the games that are on sale I want, I already own. The only thing I bought so far was Ghostbusters the Videogame and am thinking about the Deadspace pack.

Plenty of other games that I'm interested in but not at current prices (Capcom when will you learn how to do a sale.....)
I think my wallet made a shrieking sound and scurried off into a dark corner, once I pulled up the Steam page.
I had the opposite experience. My wallet did a little jig and said, "Go crazy!"

;)

Actually, the two games I'm considering will only add up to $10, so I'm not committing myself to bankruptcy just yet.

If I remember correctly you're more of an indie gamer. If that's the case 10 dollars is a small fortune.
I'm thinking about the Painkiller series, but the reviews aren't great. I'd just be buying them to get four games for $5.

I can see everything in this sale being offered for less in one to two months time.
Ignore all of the games (and consequently the reviews) except for Painkiller:Black. The publisher hijacked the series from the original developer and released, basically, a bunch of mods disguised as new games of the same quality. The original is a brilliant old school first person shooter.

Going from memory here... doesn't it try to install several sound extensions? IIRC, I removed them and the game ran fine.

Dear lord. Somehow I was not prepared for this. Right now I'm looking at: Painkiller pack, Penumbra pack, Amnesia, STALKER: COP...and now I think Vampire and Overlord...and who knows what else.

Dammit Steam.

But $5 for one game and $5 for two more + DLC? I'm good with those prices. Mostly anything sub-$10.

This is great! I've just recently built myself a gaming rig and was waiting for my first steam sale. I haven't gamed on a pc in years. I'm thinking about getting:

breath of death/cthulhu pack
overlord complete pack
painkiller black
l4d1 or 2.. or maybe the complete pack. I've never played either, but heard good things.

can anyone recommend on l4d1 or 2?
If you had to pick one. Nation Red or Dead Horde?

Haven't played Dead Horde, but Nation Red is excellent and the dev is awesome, He keeps close to the community and free stuff and listens to the fans.

If you have to choose a L4D then choose L4D2 most of the campaigns from the original have been converted over and they have added way more in terms of free DLC to 2.
I think my wallet made a shrieking sound and scurried off into a dark corner, once I pulled up the Steam page.
You'd better teach that wallet to man up.

yeah but zoey is hotter
yeah but zoe is hotter
yes but if i recall you still play as zoe when playing the original campaigns in L4D2

Ghostbusters is tempting. I had it on 360 at one point and played the multiplayer for 10 minutes, got bored and never put it back in. Has anyone played it that has a different opinion?

I wasn't saying you didn't get a good deal. I was just taking the moment to make an amusing observation about how cheap indie games usually run.

I have to tease you a little bit for listing a bunch of 3-5 year old games and a super retro one to run on your new gaming rig ;]

This has to be the first Steam sale I've seen with so many games I never heard of, which is probably good for me. I have Painkiller Black on disc that I got for $10, so I'm not sure I need to double up on that. Bioshock 2, though, is a maybe.

Also - Ghostbusters TVG (NOT Sanctum of Slime) is really fun, and I had zero issues playing on PC with KB/M controls. It's written by Dan and Harold and voiced by the cast.
Haven't played Dead Horde, but Nation Red is excellent and the dev is awesome, He keeps close to the community and free stuff and listens to the fans.
second for Nation Red.

You're welcome glad to help. :)
If you had to pick one. Nation Red or Dead Horde?

I have not played Dead Horde yet.

However....

Nation Red is awesome with two and with four it's a ball!!!

Get it!

Great game to play in short bursts when you want to kill hordes of the undead.

Breath of Death is an amusing and fun old school rpg, think Final Fantasy one and Dragon Warrior. Cthulhu is the same but you are Cthulhu!

I have not played Overlord one, but I played two on ps3 and had fun. Very Pikmin like, if you played that on gamecube or wii.

Painkiller Black is a great old school fps! Killer boss battles and hordes of enemies to kill. Great weapons including one of the best weapons of all time, THE STAKE GUN!

Definitely, recommend L4D2 it's very fun and can be played in short bursts or for several hours.
I wasn't saying you didn't get a good deal. I was just taking the moment to make an amusing observation about how cheap indie games usually run.
I see what you're saying. To me, though, anything sub-$10 beats $60 retail games. But luckily for me, there aren't that many retail games that interest me anymore. Steam has commandeered my full attention. :applause:

I'm feeling a little ambivalent here.

I've been wanting RE5 but for $10 I'm not so sure. Also, the Dead Space pack is tantalizing but I played the demo and disliked it. And now people in this thread are saying Bioshock has problems so I'll probably skip that.

What's the deal with these lesser-known games?

This is the cheapest RE5 has been; the last sale was well over a year ago at 66% off of $29.99, making it slightly over the current $10 asking price. I highly doubt it'll go any cheaper unless a pricing error occurs (similar to DMC4 during the Christmas sale).

RE5 is one of my favorite games. It's super good in co-op, but even by yourself it can be quite addictive. While the story is worse than RE4's, it makes a ton of improvements to the gameplay that result in a better game (IMO). You can grind for items and experience and max out the guns, even earning infinite ammo for all of them... Just love it.
My sister is a big Nancy Drew and Sherlock Holmes fan, but I'm sure she'd get into any of these games. I just recently got her into steam, so I bet she'd like 1 or 2 of these.
I got the SH complete pack, wait for it to come around again, it's one of the best purchases for under 10 bucks

RE5 is hit or miss. I hated it just for the fact that the CPU partner you get is dumb as a fucking rock sometimes and it made the game painful for me. Now if you played co-op, then it would be good.

Also to any Rusty Hearts players, they had an update recently. You can now play as the gun chick that was once locked. Gonna try her out now.
Is condemned even a PC game?
Condemned: Criminal Origins is on the PC, yes.
The sequel Bloodshot never got ported here.
Complete FEAR pack for 6.79? Definitely gonna buy that when I get home.
I'm thinking about buying it, I doubt that they'll have a real Complete Collection (including FEAR 3) for cheap on BF, but I wonder...

Also, Anyone think that BttF will have a better price on BF/Cyber Monday? I want to get the game, but it will probably just go into my backlog until then...
Thanks. I'll consider this.
If you liked RE4 then don't play RE5. If you never played RE4, then you'll probably find some enjoyment in 5.

I guess the conclusion is, play 4.

Even at $6.79 that's what...3.40 for 2 fairly recent games and all of its expansions? Can't beat that dude.
