Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Got DOD Source. It was $2.50, so whatever. So yeah Skyrim is selling a fuckton just on midnights. My best buy had like maybe 20, but the gamestop down the street had over fucking 50 people.

Also don't like this 200 mb forced patch upon installation but whatever.

I was going to say "I think Steam is ripping you off, dude. Mine says $1.25." Then I looked at the deal closer and realized it was $2.50 for DOD Source. Kind of a weird banner. It makes it look like you get both for $1.25.

Just realized that with the purchase of the newest Indie Royale bundle, I now have 100 games in my Steam library. :joystick:

I'm sure plenty of you have far more, but considering I've only been using Steam for mostly the last year, it's crazy how fast these games accumulate.

Quick question about the upcoming Black Friday sale:

I'm going to be out of the country for the 25th-28th November, which i think will coincide with Black Friday and all the Thanksgiving stuff.

Is Black Friday a 24 hour sale on Steam? Or are the deals spread out over a 4-5 day period like the Halloween sale? Furthermore, do they have "super" daily sales like they did on the Summer Sale?

I don't have a massive wishlist, but I'd rather not miss out on any bargains. :)

I believe they had deals the whole 5-6 days but new daily deals.
Oh, man. E.Y.E.: Divine Cybermancy is the deal today....might have to get that. Anyone here play it?
I liked it, its a rpg shooter. Just know there is no tutorial so looking over the controls is a must. watch a few videos it gets complex, or you can just shoot everything.

That 50% on E.Y.E. is kinda making me want to wait for it to be 75%, but I do want the game. Decisions :whistle2:k

Also Skyrim is awesome, but you already knew this

If I remember correctly Steam has done their sales differently each year over the Thanksgiving weekend. I believe last year was a treasure hunt similar to the summer sale but on a smaller scale. The year before that they had a lot of sales consisting of packs of the same game. These packs were similar to the 4 packs you can by of some games, for example the borderlands 4-pack, at a massive discount.
It's a good idea to use a password manager because of situations like these. Lastpass and KeePass are both good and free. You can easily use a different password for every account that you have and when a site gets compromised you only have to worry about changing one. They'll automate password entry and after the initial setup will probably make your life easier.
Thanks for the recommendation. I'm checking these out now.

I don't get it. The game wasn't $20 on release, I'm almost certain. $10 is such a non-impulse buy price, especially for a game that got such luke warm reception.

I really wish Dungeon Defenders would go on sale. It's one of those games that is an incredibly obvious for the next sale that people just wait for it, but I would totally buy it for a smaller discount like 33% off right now.

It's my antivirus program of choice, or rather, my husband's choice. He just paid to renew a year, and as he's the tech man of the household, I won't uninstall it.

Guess I'll just be waiting for a patch. I've got other stuff to play til then.

Sorta off topic, but Microsoft Security Essentials is free and lightweight. Put your computer behind any standard NAT router, and you should be fine. Good luck!

On that page it lists a workaround: Uninstall Zone Alarm Toolbar. Considering that usually any kind of toolbar is optional, I would say you could uninstall it and be playing FotW without problem.

They don't install over Steam, but those who bought this week's Indie Royale Bundle will find two more games have been added. Irukandji and Bullet Candy Perfect from the developer of Scoregasm.

Nice, thanks! :D

Tempted by E.Y.E. But I think I will wait til the Christmas sale. I expect it will be the same price if not cheaper then. Besides I can't see myself playing that over Skyrim right now.

I just looked into the different free antivirus last week because AVG wasn't cutting it, found that Ad Aware is considered the best one, might want to give that a shot if something else is causing problems.

Daily Deal

Alien Breed Trilogy $5.74 75% off includes the below
Alien Breed Impact $2.49 75% off
Alien Breed 2 Assault $2.49 75% off
Alien Breed 3 Descent $2.49 75% off

I didn't use a ticket on it, because I'd thought it was too similar to Shadowgrounds, which I'd recently played. But now that it's the whole series on sale... must... resist!

I'm glad I was able to get the 2nd one for those Summer promo tickets because after about two hours of playing I decided I wasn't interested in buying the others.

Even if you uninstall the program and reinstall and select not to install the toolbar, it'll still show up as disabled. Sucks bigtime.

No need to uninstall. Find it in control panel and uninstall it there. Even if that doesn't work, I guarantee there's a workaround, you just have to find it. ;)

Yes, I totally agree. I've wanted to do this multiple times.

Definitely, it makes for a more secure trading/selling experience.
Out of curiosity, what didn't you like?
Hard to put into words. I've previously played Shadowgrounds (and Shadowgrounds Survivor) and didn't feel like it offered much different than those games. The camera also annoyed me a bit. It's pretty much your standard isometric shooter. If you really like the genre than it might be worth your while but I've sort of had my fill of those games unless they offer something different/unique.
You know what I wish? I wish you could activate a code on Steam but store it as a gift.
I doubt Valve will ever do this because I don't believe they get compensated for the ability to unlock the games on Steam. I could be wrong, though. Even then it would probably be limited to the Royale Bundles that at least have a floor price. Not sure it would be a good idea to allow of flood of Steam Gift games into the system that people amassed for $0.01 each.

ok, do it isn't somuch the games being bad; they're just nothing exceptional. The only reason I'm really looking is because I got the second one for free. Now my OCD is going "hey, you need to complete the set!"

Same, I bit. Bugs me how I was like $0.76 away from the whole set. I feel the discount on 2 of them should have been better. =/ Or the set more expensive so I feel better.

Well if you enjoyed the second then I'm sure the other two would be just as enjoyable. If you haven't tried the second I'd give a whirl for an hour or so to see -- there isn't much of a story so you aren't going to spoil anything.
Great. So Fate of the World won't launch if I have Zone Alarm (antivirus) installed. FotW was the main reason I got the new Indie Royale bundle. :(

http://fateoftheworld.net/releases/1.1.1
Wow - ZoneAlarm. It's so 2001 in here all of a sudden.

There is a very easy workaround, Utopian, and you don't have to change ZoneAlarm. the known issue you linked to says this happens on the Steam edition, not the stand-alone edition.

So:

1. Uninstall the Steam version. (right-click on it in your library, "delete local content")

2. Go back to the Indie Royale page where you got your steam code.

3. Click "Download MSI" beneath FotW. An "MSI" is, essentially, the same as an .EXE file. (MSI = "Microsoft Installer") Save it to your Downloads folder, or to your desktop.

4. Locate the downloaded MSI file. Double-click it. This will install the stand-alone, non-Steam version of your game.

When you're done, you should have the game in your Start menu.

Forgive me if these instructions seem pedantic, or patronizing; I know you've said you like Steam for windows gaming because it's so easy to install and get to games. Thought it best to spell it all out.

At this point, you could even use Steam to "add a non-Steam game" and it will make an entry for the game in your Steam library. There won't be Steam cheevs for time tracking, though, if you do that.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Lol, thanks for the step-by-step, gcorlett.

Although I certainly know how to add and remove programs, for some reason it didn't occur to me until someone posted about it on the Steam forums that I could play the game using Desura or, as you mentioned, as the exe itself. I just forgot that I had the other options when I bought the bundle.

So yeah, I may do that. Kinda itching to play the game.

It's still annoying though considering this is a Steam cloud game and by using a different version you're losing out on that feature.

I know that you already gave your reason for using Zone Alarm, but the next time your household is re-evaluating antivirus/antimalware I suggest taking a look at Microsoft Security Essentials. It's free, lightweight, and I've never heard anyone make the kind of complaints that they do with products from third party companies.

Bah, I caved on the other two Alien Breed games because I'm weak. I just can't stand having the middle part of the set without the rest. Who knows if I'll ever actually play them

I preordered the first of the current Alien Breed trilogy long ago and got the second one free from one of those Steam specials a while back. $2.50 isn't too much to complete the set, even though I doubt I'll be inclined to go back and finish the first game. Maybe some day...
How was steams BF sales last year? I'm diving into the PC gaming relm soon and I need to get prepared lol
Pffft... The Black Friday sale? You'll get some goodies. But then the real holiday sale will hit, and no amount of preparation will save you. If you don't have much of a PC library, you're going to have the itchiest purchasing finger in the world.

The Black Friday sale is alright but the Holiday Sale will destroy you. Everyone's first Holiday/Summer sale is always the worst. It in theory gets better when your library builds up but holy god, be prepared. You think ok I am not gonna spend much. Then the sale hits and your wallet goes dry

Indeed. That first sale where I was actually into buying games on Steam. I got too many. Since then I pick up less. This year there are only maybe a handful of games I want and probably only 1-3 will actually hit a price I'd pay.

The only games I really really want on discount during this year's winter sale are all $15 or less, oddly enough. Still could get interesting if XBL has a decent sale on some of the Summer of Arcade stuff.

It can't be that good can it? Really looking for good deals on the Assassins Creed Games, Oblivion, Morrowind, Fallout games, Rift, borderlands etc. But I doubt steam can deliver on all those.
