Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

I really sort of wish Steam owned everything so everything ran through Steam. That sounds scary though.

Speaking of that, I wish Steam would give us a discount on pre-purchasing Skyrim. Even $5 would be nice. Amazon and such have the cloth map, Newegg has it for $10 off and free shipping... Maybe Steam isn't allowed to discount it since it will (probably) have to be activated on Steam anyway?

Mostly I just want it on Steam and want it the moment it's released. Don't really even care about the map, surprisingly... If Amazon would match Newegg, I'd probably stick with that. Or maybe I'd still sacrifice the map and $10 to have it the moment it's released. (Even release day delivery is too slow for me!)
What's wrong with that? I didn't need those 300 megs of RAM for my games anyway.
Nothing's wrong with it. What do you think?

Guys, what's some good co-op games on Steam?

???

Nothing is wrong with that unless your planning on having them all on at the same time.

I just built a brand new beast of a computer. Although I do not want to do this (run origin steam etc), my computer should be more than capable of handling it. Currently I have Steam on one monitor, Zune on the other, then the middle two flip between different internet or photoshop stuff. I can't imagine it too bad to throw on Origin too.

I think 24gb of RAM is good, no? : P

Any suggestions on some good co-op Steam games peeps?
Guys in a similar vein to SPAZ you might check out Starfarer http://fractalsoftworks.com/ its not on steam yet but looks promising. Seems to be about developing a character as well as a fleet.
Looks REALLY cool. I wonder how it'll turn out, and I definitely hope they bring it to Steam. If I weren't so obsessed with getting everything on Steam, I'd probably pre-purchase it for $10 and get the alpha version.
______________

Okay, so I was thinking SPAZ would "unlock" at midnight. Apparently it unlocks at noon central time, at least for me. Is this normal? Does this mean Skyrim will unlock at noon on 11.11.11 as well? (If so, Amazon release-date delivery might actually arrive before it unlocks on Steam.)

______________

I was on the Steam forums and going to post the above there (the thing about Skyrim), but I dunno what it is; I'd really just rather be here. Lots of obnoxious people around those parts. Pretty much everyone on CAG is great. Maybe it's something to do with being cheap.

Sorry again for the spammity today. I'll probably be spamming more than ever as the Skyrim release draws near and my Steam-obsession hits new heights.

Depends on the game. Left 4 Dead 2 unlocked at 1 AM EST (well due to a problem they had, it was supposed to be midnight). I think Call of Duty MW2 unlocked at like 6 AM. So yeah it's total luck.

Yeah, the publishers tell Valve what time they want their game to be unlocked at and if they want their game to be able to be preloaded.
^ Says the guy with the 60 line sig. For fuck's sake dude.
lol thanks You obviously don't know my reference, though. :applause: It is said that people who brag are overcompensating for a lack of something. Nothing in my sig is bragging at all. It's full of helpful stuff that people PM me about alot since I put it in there. I'm trying to spread love.

Just bet Zeno Clash I got in a weekly deal on Normal.

It's a very short game (haven't tried the challenges yet), but the main story mode took around 3 hrs and 15 mins (including deaths). Give or take 10 minutes.

So I only recommend the game if it goes on sale again. It's not a bad game, just real short.

Generally indie games will unlock around the same time new sales go up. Preloading and midnight releases tend to happen just for the big games.
I highly recommend this game. I'm not even a big fan of shmups and I really enjoyed it.
Man I really should just install windows on my mac instead of hoping and waiting for ports. I'll just pray for this to be in humble bundle 6. :)

Burn Zombie Burn was part of the Indie Fright Pack (Burn Zombie Burn, The Path, The Scourge Project, The Void, Zombie Driver) for $5 in the winter 2010 sale, but this is the cheapest the game has been on its own. Fun game to play in short bursts, I'd say it's worth the asking price.

I bought Space Pirates and Zombies and just put 82 minutes into it. I gotta say its a lot of fun, really reminds me of star control 2 and thats really a great thing. Its worth checking out the demo even if your only just a little interested. Thanks Jesse_Dylan for pointing it out to me as I hadn't noticed the game before your post yesterday.

I giggled.

I just have been saving up and wanting to build this computer for a while so I am quite excited now that I have it up and running!

As far as Co-Op games go, I too wouldln't mind a few suggestions.

If anyone cares that it isn't Steam, GreenManGaming has
SPAZ
for 13.95. If you use the code SUNNY-SAVER-20PEC, it will take an additional 20% off the price, dropping it to 11.16.

That code will work with Deus Ex: HR and the game will activate on Steam as well. You can get it for $34 or $40 for the AE version.

I want Jamestown, but I'm having a hard time biting on it when my backlog is big and it might end up in a bundle in the near future. I'll wait until the winter.
The thread title makes no sense am I missing something?
It originally said "No Longer Causes Cancer" but a few people didn't like it so it was changed.

Other popular co-op games on Steam:

L4D, L4D2.
Borderlands.
Magicka.
Sanctum.
Dead Horde.
Alien Swarm (free!).
Nation Red.
Altitude could be considered co-op if you're on the same team.
Portal 2.
Hunted: The Demon's Forge.

Also any of the new free-to-play MMOs like Champions, Spiral Knights, Global Agenda.

Not all of these are excellent but all are good, or at least high-profile. Good luck.

So you say this thread DOES cause cancer now? Ugh. I thought we'd hashed this out already.

Sorry if this lame humor offends any of my CAG bros and sisters. But speaking as someone who helped his wife through cancer surgery 10 months ago, I find that the humor helps the pain, in the long run.

Glad to see someone affected by it appreciates the OP's humor. Also, sorry to hear that, and I hope all is well for you.
But does SPAZ activate on steam?
It will.

Before anyone jumps my shit about this being a Steam thread, my defense is that this is CheapAssGamer and I was simply pointing out how to get the game cheaper. I updated my original post to show that the 20% off code does work and getting it through GMG can save you almost 4 bucks.
Why does Jamestown activate in STEAM, but isn't on the list?
TL;DR: It isn't retail, so look for something indicating the need for a 3rd party download/registration (Usually an indication of a Steamworks game).

Many games aren't on that list that activate on Steam, so that list isn't always reliable, as it only applies to retail games. To name a few: Super Meat Boy (Gamersgate version activates on Steam), Hamilton's Great Adventure (Gamersgate version activates on Steam), and Fallout 3: GOTY (Gamestop digital version activates on Steam).

That list only applies to games that you are at least able to pick up from a retail store and register the CD key on Steam.

If it's from a digital download service, you'll need to ask them or look for another CAG to vouch for the successful activation on Steam. Sometimes there is more to it than a simple list. I wish this message would reach all CAGs who have the same question.

Unfortunately, it's limited to those who show interest in this thread, and not even everyone from that pool. =/

I would suggest checking out the already mentioned Alien Swarm (**FREE** 3rd person isometric action shooter), and also Tobie's Vertical Adventure (16-bit styled action platformer).

I saw on the steam forum where somebody said their copy of SPAZ from green man gaming activated on steam. So its possible but I wouldn't call it confirmed as of yet.

SUPPOSEDLY all copies of SPAZ will activate on Steam, but it's not required. Right now there's a bit of a mess as some of the keys are in Steam's database but some aren't. Since I bought my copy about 5 days ago on Greenman Gaming, mine isn't. But people who bought earlier than me on GMG are.

So it probably won't work right off the bat, but supposedly it will activate on Steam eventually.

Sorry to hear that, my friend, but big kudos to both you and your wife. It does warm the heart to see people sticking together. Bless you. That's what life is really about, I think.
Tried demo of SPAZ. Seemed alright but not $15 alright.
Boo. :( How much did you play? It took a while for me to get hooked. I thought, "Well, this is interesting" for the first 30 minutes or so, but after that, wham, I was playing with my fleet, harvesting stuff, buying and researching and messing with the tactics screen, and having a great time. It gave me some of the same feelings, oddly, that Oblivion does (present-tense... playing it again... it's like a yearly thing for me).
I bought Space Pirates and Zombies and just put 82 minutes into it. I gotta say its a lot of fun, really reminds me of star control 2 and thats really a great thing. REALLY glad you like it. I have to admit that whenever I enjoy something and there aren't any reviews for it, I am hesitant to recommend it, worried maybe it's just me. Especially considering that it's apparently not even on sale right now (though it is $15, which was the "sale" price on Impulse). But as someone pointing out, there is a way to get it cheaper and apparently still activate it on Steam, which is really cool.

It'll be interesting to see how the game is received critically, if it gets any attention at all.

Kind of off-topic, Dragon Age 2 is $25 at Target this week. I sure wish it activated on Steam. Kinda wish I'd bought it on Steam when I had the chance. Maybe some Dragon Age 2 Game of the Year Edition with all the DLC will come out in a year or two on Steam and be on sale for $5. That would be good enough.

Don't get me wrong, SPAZ was interesting and I liked the sort of free wheeling, just collect and build mechanics. That losing a ship was scarcely a speed bump so long as you didn't keep losing. The comparisons to SC2 don't seem right to me, as SC2 was massive time management, adventure game style dialogs and fetching, and very arcade, distinct combat... and lousy mining. This is entirely different, something like Space Rangers only in real time with a better focus and less stupid difficulty curve. I don't know.

I got to about working grinding quests/resources in the second quadrant before calling it a night. I liked the ideas and the style, but the interface was still awful in a lot of ways and I was not feeling the combat. Mid combat targeting is still stupid.

Also, I thought overflow crew was supposed to go to your goons stock...

PR machine from Space Marine let slip that there's going to be a Warhammer 40k sale shortly to coincide with the early Space Marine demo. Demo hits the 18th.
