Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Does anyone else hate how Bastion doesn't allow you to run diagonally? If I press 'w' and 'd' at the same time, my guy will always bump into the wall or fall off the side. So I have to keep adjusting instead of just running straight down a path. I guess if I had a gamepad it wouldn't be a big deal.

Oh well, the game is pretty cool.
Started out Bastion using Keyboard+mouse....switched to 360 controller and it's so much better. Plays much better too. It's hard to move while charging up your bow since you need to hold down Q.

So apparently, From Dust is playable right now from Capsule, Green Man Gaming's game client. I haven't activated my key yet, so I want to trade it for something of equal value that's activatable on Steam, like Space Pirates and Zombies, Renegade Ops ,or something of that nature. I've already bought From Dust and Bastion on Steam. If you're at all interested, please let me know. Again, you get to play it a night before it's released on Steam!

So, now I own 2 copies of Section 8. 1 from Steam, 1 from GFWL marketplace. Does this mean I could have a friend install it and play it?

Does the 2nd account have to associate the CD key with its GFW account when it signs in? How does all that work exactly?

Heh. I wasn't paying attention and I ended up buying the Section 8 four pack. Oh well. Anyone want one of them? Free of charge, just tell me your Steam name.

Yes please. Steam name is jamezuva. Thanks!

I would love this if you have another! I'm holydread
Gotta accept my friend invite for me to gift it to you. I guess. I dunno, I've never gifted a game before.
Accepted your friend request

Edit: Got the game, thanks again!

You're the greatest. Thanks so much!

Probably the wrong place to ask but does anyone have any tips for Bad Company 2 multiplayer? I bought it during the Summer sale and just started playing it and I've figured out that I suck.

Hide in a dark corner and shoot people in the back when they walk by.
What's the PC equivalent of the select button?
If I can offer up some advice in saying, you are going to suck regardless for a couple of days.

Some recommendations would be to find you a class and stick with it while you learn the levels, this way you unlock some good weapons and get specializations for your other classes.

Keep playing with a configuration that works for you to. I've moved my tagging button a couple of times until I found something that works for me (which currently is q). I have also moved my 4th item to the left alt button, cause usually I need that stuff in a hurry and well inadvertantly swtich to the third spot without realizing.

Just some growing pains I had to go through, and hope it helps get you over yours.

Be a team player and nobody will care what your k/d is. Drop health packs, ammo packs, motion mines. Repair stuff. Just don't revive people while you're getting shot at :D

I'd like one. Bottlenecked on steam. i'll accept your invite when i get home from work.

Two questions.

#1) I've got Gratuitous Space Battles already, but I have none of the DLC. How is the DLC? Should I spend the $7 or so and grab it all?
EDIT: I already had all the DLC except the two newest. Oops. Embarrassing.

#2) If I buy the Complete Pack for like $3 more, will this net me a giftable copy of the base game since I already have it?
EDIT: NO, it will not, according to an article on Steam itself.

#3) :D
EDIT: D:

ALSO:
Avadon is out today and is 10% off. Not a huge deal, but it's a nice gesture, and I'm thinking about buying the game just to support it. Good reviews and pretty sure I'd like it.

FINALLY:
Where the heck is the From Dust demo?

I can answer that question, at least. The extra copy isn't giftable.

Pick a server that has a max rank of 25 or 35, they are a lil easier to get acclimated to the multiplayer. And like someone said before, stick with a class for awhile to get the hang of it. And tag people with q

Well, I went ahead and bought Avadon: The Black Fortress and the two remaining GSB DLCs. I'm going to try Avadon out over my morning tea ("Umm, it's noon?" "SHHH") and will give some impressions for anyone who cares. :) It does have a smattering of really positive reviews and no negative ones really.

For those who know nothing of Avadon, it's sort of an old-school RPG developed by a company that has made hoards of old-school RPGs. It looks more accessible to me than their previous efforts.

Avadon impressions. Really cool. If you don't mind doing some reading, and you like RPGs, this is your game. It's sort of like a book combined with a game and reminds me of a more up-to-date, user-friendly version of Ultima (as in you're not actually reading a BOOK, because it's a lot more manageable amounts of text than that, but it's still very bookish). The game is kind and guides you into learning the ropes, and the difficulty level is highly customizable to please casuals, people who like an average challenge (me), and the hardcore (it's changeable in-game, too, happily).

I personally prefer to avoid reading on LCD, and when I see a wall o' text, I get sad, but this is all accompanied by pictures and dialog choices, and it's refreshing to see a game where people speak in more than 120 character sentences.

Combat is turn-based, which really pleases me, but it's fast and concise. I remember wanting Baldur's Gate to be more like this back in the day.

If you have any inkling at all towards this type of game, I highly recommend grabbing it today, for $1 off, and supporting this type of game (and this developer) on Steam. Really, really glad I picked this up. Modern developers of big, whizz-bang RPGs could stand to learn just as much from this as they've learned from WoW and Diablo. I'd love to see games take a direction more like this. I feel really drawn in to the fiction of the world and part of the story. It is NOT a fast-paced game, but it's one that will encapsulate you if you give it the chance to.

There are only a few little things I miss, like being able to see equipment on my character when I put it on them (spoiled by Torchlight and such).

Now, if you'll excuse me, back to the game!

EDIT: Just realized there's a demo on the developers' site (why is the demo not on Steam?). http://spiderwebsoftware.com/avadon/index.html

Thanks for the post. :)

Wow, I didn't know these guys (might be just one guy?) were still around. I remember playing their old Exile games, which were similar to the old style Ultima games and were a lot of fun. I will try to pick this up sometime.

Does it play like a pen and paper? I have been dying to find a pen and paper like game on the PC cause my IRL P&P has gotten flaky.

Also, if you really want to support the dev, they have it on their websites store for $20.

And their games are usually $20+ through their website. Seeing it for $10 on Steam was a big surprise. Though I think they said their next game that's releasing will be closer to $25.

I think it does feel a lot like a pen and paper game, though I also thought Baldur's Gate did (minus the combat that I always despised).

I think they want their next game to be on Steam as well, and to be low-priced. Theres a blog post discussing the price. Some fans were upset at how low the price was on Steam.

Also, there's a demo! Why is the demo not on Steam?

If you have an iPad, the game is available in the App Store for $10.

If I loved the Star Trek Armada games, will I like GSB? the lack of resource collecting intrigues me, as after UI beat the game I would replay just using with the unlimited funds cheats code and build a few hundred ships and just annihilate everything
Just an FYI, Skyrim will use Steamworks, so buy it wherever it is cheapest cause it will still activate on steam!
Source please?

Great news! I was expecting Skyrim to be Steamworks, but it's great to know for sure.

What bugs me is that Steam isn't doing a discount or a special deal or anything. Would've switched to the Newegg version, but I'm hoping Amazon's release-day shipping will actually get it to be before it unlocks on Steam (assuming it unlocks at noon on 11/11/11, guess we don't know). To be honest, I don't care about having a box copy or a cloth map. I'm just annoyed on principle that it's $59.99 on Steam and all we get is a TF2 hat.

There's a Warhammer Complete Pack coming for a weekend deal tomorrow (as the demo for Space Marine will be available that day to those who've pre-ordered).
It will include DOW I, II, both games' expansions, Retribution + its wargear, Space Marine, and the pre-order bonus of Darksiders.

I wish I hadn't already registered my copy of Soulstorm (or bought Darksiders, for that matter - though at least that will be giftable).
