Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Holy shitballs! Borderlands GOTY for $7.50 is an INCREDIBLE deal. Buy it now!

EDIT: I highly, highly recommend everybody download this Advanced Settings Tool. It lets you tweak the major annoying stuff (FoV, intro movies) and allows you to enable the stuff that all PC games should have (zoom/crouch toggle, scroll wheel menu navigation, FPS counter). There's even an experimental setting that lets you disable the black borders around everything.

According to Steam Game Sales, that is the cheapest that Borderlands has been.

I've finished the main game on the PS3, twice, but am still tempted to play it on the PC, especially for this price.

...If you care about that $0.01 you'd save over the sale prices since April ($7.50 vs the $7.49 for this sale).

Still though, great price. I just need my friends to buy it now...
i might pick it up. I owned the console version but got it at a bad time and never really got into it and ended up trading it in. For $5 I might give this another try...
I'd strongly suggest playing the extra $2.50 to get all the DLC. They add a ton of content to the game.

Someday I'm going to learn how to use mods. I spent a couple hours one night trying to figure out how to use welps(sp) patch for V:TMB only to fail miserably. I haven't started Torchlight yet because I'm worried that I'll be missing out if I don't use mods(that I don't know how to install).

It's frustrating cause the descriptions make it seem so easy, but I lack the skills to make them work. I couldn't get the borderlands one to work either.

I forget which V:TMB mod I used (could have been welps) but IIRC it was just drag-and-drop into the game's main folder. The failing probably wasn't you; the instructions were sooo clunky and not written well.

As for Torchlight, I played without any mods and had a frakkin' awesome time. Like, 101+ hours worth. The only mod I've considered adding during my playthrough was the one that eliminated the randomizer on enchantments that would give a random chance to strip all modifiers from an item after the 4th or 5th time (something like that). It really stings when that happens :( I still haven't modded it since 3-4 enchantments and I'm actually good.

Hector complete series for $15. For the amount of content you get, I'd say that's worth it easily. Each game is worth $5 on its own, even though there's only two so far. Clever, funny adventure games.

Thanks for the great news about Torchlight. It looks like a really fun game. I like developing a character and I'm a fan of obsessive hoarding in video games. So I'll probably spark that one up after I finish the current game I'm playing (The Longest Journey).

As for V:tMB I'm going to wait on attempting to install that patch again. It took me forever to understand where certain folders were and where they were even at. Then switching admin rights on steam and other folders. I thought I had it set up only to get denied. It was quite infuriating. I'll try a simple drag and drop, but if that doesn't work I'll probably just play it with the steam update patch. I'd rather do that than the other option I've heard. To pull the game off STEAM and apply the patch. That seems like a doomed project for me.
Is Garry's worth $6.24? I am not interested in Counterstrike.
I can't speak on the quality of the game as I've never played it. If price is a major concern it's been as low as $2.50, so I'm sure it will hit a lower price soon.
Is there a CAG group on Steam?

As much as I think I'd like Hector, I'm willing to wait until they decide they have finished making new episodes and buy it all together.
The $14.99 price includes the two currently available episode and the third episode which comes out next month. So you might as well take advantage of this sale.

I just installed the 7.7b unofficial patch about 10 min ago and everything worked smoothly. Although I only quickly created a character and got to the first cutscene to verify it didn't crash. Followed the instructions from the OP of the Neogaf Bloodlines thread: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=435808
I already have Borderlands. Is the DLC worth $7.50 on its own? My gut feeling says no.
Depends on what you value and how you play. If you play solo a lot without friends then pick up Zombie Island of Dr Ned for $2.50 and ignore the rest. You will get a good 4-10 hours of extra play out of it and its hilarious and fun. If you play online with friends then yeah pick up all the DLC for the extra $7.50 it adds a lot of hours of play.
I already have Borderlands. Is the DLC worth $7.50 on its own? My gut feeling says no.
Your gut feeling is wrong. The DLC is excellent - well worth $7.50. Or, at least, 3 of them are, and the 4th is just an added bonus. If you enjoyed Borderlands enough to consider getting the DLC, I dont' think you'll be disappointed with it.

Well I agree except again the fact that most of the DLC is hard to complete solo. The boss fights in them are fucking impossible without a friend.
If I have a non-steam copy of Borderlands, can I still buy the DLC on steam? (I guess not...)

Thanks!
Generally the store page will tell you something like "Borderlands must be owned on Steam to buy this", but to my knowledge, no, it won't work.

Speaking of mods and such, for Torchlight, there is a program called Torchleech you can download. It's meant to basically display a big list of ALL the mods available (from a database), and you just click to install what you want, click to check for conflicts, and that's it.

However, I downloaded Torchleech and it just shows an empty list. Did I do something wrong? Is Torchleech no longer in service? Other than that method, I dunno how to install Torchlight mods and don't want to learn.

(Installing Oblivion mods, woof, now that was a chore. FCOM is "not for the faint of heart".)

The people that created torchleech stopped supporting it sadly. There is some other program now thats supposed to replace it but I had a hard time getting it to run properly. Hopefully Torchlight 2 will officially support mods through the game itself....wish more games would.
I already have Borderlands. Is the DLC worth $7.50 on its own? My gut feeling says no.
Knoxx is fantastic and easily worth that price alone. Zombie has a number of humorous moments and is just such a novel locale in the Pandora world that it's easy to recommend. Moxxi is nearly worthless unless you just love many, many, many... many uninterrupted hours of nearly identical arena grinds. Claptrap ranks third behind Knoxx and Zombie, but it does contain the final segment of the Borderlands storyline. There are tons of hours of gameplay and Knoxx has a few segments that can be repeated numerous times to great reward. The level cap is increased as well.

Yeah, it's worth $7.50 all day long but it's too bad they priced it as high as the entire package.

It's been out for a while as I picked it up in either the winter or summer sale for the same price. I was not impressed; the controls were very offputting. Many people liken it to a poor man's GoW, but I just couldn't get past the poor feel I got trying to play.
Didn't Garshasp just come out? Seems the reviews are quite tilted in the "play something else" direction.
Yeah, you don't want to play that pile of shit.
Didn't Garshasp just come out? Seems the reviews are quite tilted in the "play something else" direction.
I picked it up during the summer sale, and I really enjoyed it. Really, at only a couple of bucks, there isn't much expectation. It's just a God of War clone, but with a controller, it's really quite fun (it is pretty bad playing with keyboard).

I can put together a 4 pack for Borderlands GOTY if people are interested.

I've got 1 taker.
Need 2 more.

PM me

I'm a little irritated with the fact that I ended up having to buy Hector: Badge of Carnage twice in order to get all the episodes, but considering I bought both at discounts that add up to less than the product at its usual price, I'm good with it.

Guys, there already is a thread for Borderlands 4-packs in the appropriate forum. Check there.
Well I agree except again the fact that most of the DLC is hard to complete solo. The boss fights in them are fucking impossible without a friend.
I soloed three of the DLCs with no issues. The only boss I couldn't defeat by myself is Crawmerax, but he isn't exactly designed to be a solo encounter.

The only DLC I couldn't solo is Mad Moxxi's, but that is sort of a different beast as it's an arena DLC rather than one with a storyline and missions.

So a few of you will be happy to know that the canceled third Penny Arcade game is back in development after like a 3 year hiatus. Hothead games who made the first two(as well as Deathspank)is no longer at the helm though, instead the game is being made by Zeboyd Games(the guys that did Breath of Death VII and Cthulu saves the world).

http://www.rpgamer.com/news/Q3-2011/082611a.html

Kind of funny timing for me personally since I just beat PA Episode 1 just a few hours ago ;)

That's pretty cool. I just finished the second PA episode last night, and I was miffed when I remembered the third one had been cancelled.

However:
Penny Arcade's Gabe and Tycho are confirmed as playable characters and the game will feature side view combat different from Zeboyd's past two games. The graphical style will be a 16-bit style similar to that of Final Fantasy V
That could end up being an odd shift, especially since the world and art style was so well-developed from the first two. On the other hand, a new gameplay style could liven things up a bit.

Ah well, as long as the story continues and I get to kill another god, I'm good.

My friend gifted me the base version of borderlands with no dlc. If i buy the goty year edition will the dlc install properly or will I have to buy the dlc individually. Just wondering cause its slightly cheaper to get goty version versus the seperate dlc purchases. Anyway, great deal on borderlands for anyone who hasn't grabbed it yet.

Question: I already have Borderlands GOTY. Why can't I buy the ordinary four pack but can buy the GOTY pack? Does that mean if I buy the GOTY four pack, I'll get all four as giftable items since I already have one copy of the game?

you won't be able to purchase the game at all if you already owned.
