Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Damn you're right. Well, never mind then
I've never played CS. Should I get the complete pack or should I just wait for the new game to come out so I can get into it?
Wait for the new one. You haven't missed anything, just a competitive FPS that's addicting and fun, no story whatsoever, just my opinion though. The new will just build upon its predecessors, so just get that and you'll be solid.

Torchlight 2 had its price announced. First off its $20 the same as the first TL! Was happy to hear that because I was thinking it was going to be $30 since it looks to have more content and the price for DL games are trickling up. Second its awesome that they announced this because at least to me its a signal they feel they are getting closer to releasing the game.

Heres the link. If anyone cares they also announced the fourth and final class the Embermage.

Fantastic. I will be sure to grab a Steam copy when it comes out.
CS is basically a tighter focused flavor of the CoD/MoH style MP anyway.
I dont think you can really compare CS to these games. Takes accurate precision, speed and caution to survive.

Pretty much all games require that
Hasn't updated yet but the announcement says today's deal is Metro 2033 for $5
Wow awesome! I just built a new computer, so I'm definitely going to buy this game. From what I've read, this game tends to bring even very powerful rigs to their knees.

It's pretty brutal on the hardware. My rig (Ci7 @ 3.6GHz/12GB RAM/SLIed GTX 460) had to drop down to 1680 rez and turn down a couple of things to get it running smoothly. This is the same rig that can run Far Cry 2 timedemos with everything full blast at 1920 rez at 100 fps. It can even play Crysis smoothly!

Damn, I wanted Metro but if it's really such a killer I don't know that my laptop will survive. i5, 4gb ram with nVidia 420m :( I've played everything else just fine but now I'm scared, haha.

All the benchmarks using the game have the settings maxed out.
steam starts / ends their daily deals at 3pm EST / 12pm PDT.
No they don't. It's 1 PM EST every day, and the press release for metro was at 1 PM EST. I know for a fact because I check every day at 1.

Steam is fucking late today.
direct2drive matched gamersgate sale on Homefront of $15

Been offline for a WEEK thanks to moving house and this was the first post I saw since coming back.

Turns out that I had some credit left that was going to run out soon, so I bought Homefront for the princely sum of ... 23c! (plus it activates on Steam - YAY!)
Seems like Metro 2033 is $5 on Steam all the time for the past year.
Actually no. I don't think so. According to steamgamesales.com, this would be the lowest ever.

It's been $5 on Gamersgate a couple of times and it activates on Steam. I believe this is the lowest on Steam itself.

Thank you for clearing that up :)

We need a site to track every steam related sale as well as that website does. I just don't have a good memory to remember threads on CAG.

Thanks! Downloading my copy now.
Now do I get Homefront from D2D w/CAG coupon? Is it worth $12?
The campaign isn't. Total playtime for the campaign when I did it was 3.5 hours, and that was with dying/restarting. That'd be ok if it was a really good campaign, but it's really not. The set up was great but it went nowhere with unlikable characters and a boring, plodding plot. It's just not good.

The multiplayer is more divisive. I never played it, but I've heard good and bad things about it.
Ok thanks.

D2D also has Witcher 2 premium for $25--good deal, or should I keep waiting until Holiday Sale time?
Might be a good idea to actually wait. That's what I'm doing at least. They are going to release some major patch (2.0) and it will be a great time to start playing it imho.
Pretty much all games require that
Haha well you got me there yet COD/MOH is leagues behind CS. If you actually invested time into it you would understand.

http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-420M.35837.0.html

Hmmmm, well if you can stand 24 fps you could probably get by with medium settings.

Definitely, a great price for the game even if you can't max out it's settings.

Metro 2033 is like the new Crysis, in terms of requirements.
Is it worth buying Counter Striker now? I haven't played it for a while. Are there still people online? Thanks.
Tons.

Thanks for the input. There are Counter-Strike: Source + Garry's Mod, Source Multiplayer Pack, and Counter-Strike Complete. I don't have any of them. Which one should I buy? Does each of game in the package have its own multiplayer part? Much thanks.

You're welcome. Personally, I'd take the Source multiplayer pack. The CS complete pack is just CS: S with its predecessors, which I wouldn't buy because they're essentially the same thing as CS: S, but with worse graphics and little to no real physics involved. CS: S has physics and looks much more polished, so that rules out the CS complete pack.

The other two are great, you just need to decide between Garry's mod (a physics sandbox where you can build houses, cars, rockets, etc. on top of the great mods) and the other Source powered multiplayer games, DoD and HL: DM. Personally, I would go with the Source multiplayer pack, since I was bored with GM rather quick, but I expect MANY to disagree and say they love it. It's really personal preference, so you're gonnna have to choose for yourself. YouTube can help a lot. :)
Now do I get Homefront from D2D w/CAG coupon? Is it worth $12?
Not really. I bought it on release day since a buddy of mine was begging me to play something online with him. Worst purchase I've made in a long time. Campaign is terrible and the multiplayer isn't much better. If you want a similar game just go with CoD, if you already have CoD and want something different, then stay far away from Homefront since it's basically just a crappier version of CoD.

ive only played the mp demo but i disagree, the mp has a good feel to it. i dont think its a shitty version of cod, you see a lot more mid/long range engagements, at least i did. to someone who likes the modern style of fps i dont think you can go wrong at $12.

I grabbed the current DOTD this afternoon, Metro 2033 for $5. Been waiting on a good deal on that one for a while. An hour & a half in and it definitely doesn't disappoint. Looks great & has a ton of atmosphere.
