Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Picked up COD 4 for the Star Wars mod. I remember people talking about it during the Summer Sale, but missed the deal.

Damn you! I have owned every COD on xbox, and have stopped playing them all due to boredom...but you had to post this and make me consider picking it up on pc to use mods. I had forgotten all about that star wars mod. I don't even like star wars that much, but it just looks badass and different.

Not worth $10 if you're sick of CoD though. Just watch some videos of it on YouTube. It alleviated my temptation to get it in the Summer Sale.

Thanks for talking me off that ledge. I AM sick of COD. MW3 is very likely to be my first skipped COD.

Oh wow, I didn't know the Riddick game came with an updated version of Escape From Butcher Bay. I might just have to grab that and add it to my backlog...

I thought I was sick of COD but Blops was good fun, surprisingly.

That said, Riddick. Great game. EFBB is a bit better as the AODA half kinda runs off the rails at the second half and both kinda suffer from the Doom 3 engine style of darkness where it's too dark when it's dark and almost blinding when it's light. Both great games though.

TAGES DRM is a big turn off though.
How bad is this TAGES DRM? I usually don't have any issues with DRM, but I've never even heard of TAGES before.
It is a DRM with an instal limit that, if i'm not mistaken, resets itself after a set number of days once the limit is reached. I honestly don't see why people hate it.

RS, I had lots of fun with BLOPS as well. I was in the same boat sick of COD.

Anyone think COD4 will go lower than $9.99 any time soon? I wanna try the Star Wars mod.

Also, Fish, I thunk TAGES really is bad from what I've heard. Horror stories of people not being able to play the games they bought. Look at some Amazon reviews of games with TAGES. Like Riddick

Yeah, but amazon reviews can really be just outrageous because people want to be. For example the Lord of the Rings. Nothing wrong with it, but people wanted the extended versions so they 1 starred it.

Not saying the warning about TAGES is bad, but it's the fact that you will most likely ONLY hear horror stories because if somebody had no problem they most likely wouldn't post anything about it.

To some degree you're correct. But if there are so many complaints it's not for no reason. Complaints about some of this DRM shit are completely understandable. And the people complaining about the LOTR Blu-rays have a legitimate point and are using their rights as consumers to great effect. I'm all for consumers rights but the strange thing is that on these forums I think the majority of responses I've seen have been pro-DRM and not against it. It surprises me how many gamers stick up for these huge companies like Ubisoft and EA no matter how invasive they get.

I've gotten to the point where I find a "backup" copy of any game I buy that requires DRM like TAGES so I can play my games when and where I want to if these are any issues.

Do it! The Assault on Athena package is one of this 'gens' most underrated games.

Loved it, but Escape from Butcher Bay was much better than Dark Athena.

In regards to TAGES you get an activation back every 45 days.

I feel like it may hit at least 7.50 during the steam holiday sale. I've never seen it below 9.99 during any of these steam sales. May be a few years till we see it below $4.99.

I've never seen an Activision game go lower than $9.99 not counting CoD DLCs. Man, they are cheap (and making profit).

Does anyone have any thoughts on Velvet Assassin? I reviews don't look too great, but I remember wanting this a while back for some reason.

I've read a couple of negative reviews about Velvet Assassin, so while $5 is usually my price point, I'm gonna hold off.

I checked my Goozex request list, because sometimes when games go on sale on Steam, people ditch their hard copies, but there it's listed as untradeable, and some googling indicates it requires (Steamworks?) Steam.

Personally, I think the game would be worth $2.50, but I'm speaking from a "strapped for cash" perspective. (Typical talk for a CAG, I know.)

If they had gone a bit cheaper, I would have picked it up.

I guess I'll be the odd duck out and say it's worth full price. Bought it with the 10% release week discount, and I really enjoy it. Haven't finished it yet, but I have no qualms about recommending people check it out for $5 if they have a passing interest.

Hamilton's is quite fun imo. I got it during the Summer Sale (traded a spare copy of Darksiders for it so $5 still). Worth the cost if you like these type of puzzle games.
I picked up Hamilton's a while back and have liked what I've had time to play of it so far. There's a demo, so if you're on the fence check it out.

Also, here's a vid from TotalBiscuit (who sucks at this game): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1KfawzlnrsY
He's generally terrible at all puzzle games and he admits it. Try watching his WTF is on the portal levels in The Ball. It took all of my power to not yell directions at the screen.

Oh absolutely and I can respect his humility. Not trying to rip on the dude, just pointing it out to save the later comments about how bad he is. :)

I still wish they'd release Contracts on Steam. I don't care if it's not all that great, I want to round out my Hitman collection.
Any of these Hitman games decent? Never played one but kind of always been interested.
Blood Money, the most recent one, is my favorite and will likely be the easiest to get into. You won't be missing out on much by skipping straight to it.

The Hitman games are really good. I had tons of fun with Hitman 2 back in the day. Especially with the cheat codes, such as no gravity or the nailgun. Put them both on and you could stick people to the ceiling. Fun times.

Blood Money is the best one out of them all though.

dammits! why do they have a hitman collection pack and not a kane and lynch collection pack? I already have the hitman collection. ah well, no kane and lynch for me then.
What are the set times when the Midweek and Weekend deals start and end? Are they at the same times each week?
Midweek deals usually go Tuesday 10AM PST to Thursday 4PM PST unless otherwise specified. Weekend deals go Thursday 10AM to Monday 10AM.

Yep, Blood Money is by far the best Hitman game released. The levels are incredibly diverse - New Orleans during Mardi Gras, a playboy mansion-esque resort at Christmas, a suburban neighborhood, a Heaven and Hell Party in a highrise hotel, complete with giant shark tank in the basement.

Honestly, it's the best in the series for all that but also because it's the best implemented Hitman game too ... in earlier games the AI would go haywire and detect you from miles away, etc and it just didn't make you feel quite like the game was working the way developers intended. The PC version of Blood Money has better graphics when compared to the 360 version and it's a satisfying story that has a solid arc and an ending that may actually surprise you.
