Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Missed the thread, thanks! :D

I'm gonna go ahead and NOT recommend Yosumin for today's Daily Deal. It requires more luck than skill, the music and sound effects will drive you batty, and at the very end of the campaign, the difficulty ramps up to punch-your-monitor levels. I got it as part of the Squeenix pack a while back and I can't remember why I installed it. If it ever drops below a $1 then *maybe* root through the sofa cushions.

Thanks for the input. I was actually debating this for my wife but I'll save the $5 for another day now :)

I'm curious if anyone bought the game. I think this one CAG review killed it. :D

Between that review and the fact that I am going to end up with it when the Squeenix pack goes on sale again, I passed on this one.
Dear Baby Jesus,

Please make Steam put Bastion on sale for 50% off tomorrow.

insta-buy if true X)

@Sire
go to the game's storepage and add to wishlist somewhere in the middle of the page
Is there a way to add games to a wishlist on Steam?
There's a grey "Add to Your Wishlist" button on each product page.

Today's deal is iBomber Defense for $2.49 (50% off).

iBomber Defense combines classic tower defense gameplay with intense action and strategy. Keep enemies at bay all over the world using a variety of weapons and tactics, from rattling Machine guns, explosive cannons and awesome anti-aircraft artillery!

Finally a day I don't buy a Steam game. I have bought a Steam game (well game that activiates on Steam), every day since Thursday. Keep in mind they were all deals but still.

Although I did pick up Kirby Mass Attack and I am getting RE4 HD tonight so that makes 6 straight days so far of buying games.

It turns out it's also an iOS game, for $2.99 over there.

It sounds like maybe it's a more complex sequel to one of those dumb simplistic touch based shooter games...except with strategy elements added in.

It COULD be really fun although I'm more skeptical now. Looks fine to me though.

Ok, I just played the demo...

Just like the description says, it's a tower defense game with strategy elements. You buy different weapons with cash that you earn as your destroy units. Demo let you played through one level with 20 waves which included infantry, jeeps/trucks, and tanks, all of which you have to stop from reaching your base.

You have a certain amount of life (14 in the demo), and each enemy that you let go into your base makes you lose 1 life. I finished the game without losing life.

Fun and can be addicting. I might pass up on this since I still have Defense Grid from last week!

It looks like there are a couple deals for the Midweek Madness. Two Worlds II is only 50% off but you have at least two indie bundles that are 80%+ off.

Can anybody recommend these? The strategy one looks really tower defense heavy so Ill probably pass but the 2D look s a bit more interesting.

for the indie bundles, do you get gifts of any of the games if you already own them? i already have defense grid, nyx quest, sanctum, revenge of the titans and world of goo. its pretty unlucky that i have 5 of the ten games. if only i could choose which 5 games i wanted for $10. i actually only really want anomaly, sword and soldiers and sol survivor

I don't think you do. :(

So that sounds like it's just a normal tower defense game? I mean that's fine with me-my impression was that there was some (to me probably lame) action element to it?

Here is a very quick rundown: buy both packs, fantastic value

here is a slightly longer rundown:
Anomaly- Enjoyable tower defense, but with roles reversed, solid visuals
Defense Grid- Traditional tower defense, good visuals and solid voice acting
Revenge of the Titans- traditional tower defense, but with large range of customization and tech tree
Sanctum- tower defense and fps combined, neither half is exceptional, but they do work together well
Sol Survivor- a more traditional tower defense game
These are some of the best tower defense games. If you hate that genre, they won't convince you. But if you never really played one, these are great. Defense Grid should probably be played first.

Bit Trip Runner- The Bit trip games are all well made, good music elements, simple controls in that you can't control moving forward/nackward, but strongly designed
NightSky- atmospheric, relaxing puzzler in which you control a powered ball to figure out how to move from one screen to the next
NyxQuest- more sidescrolling platformer than action game, not terribly long or difficult but enjoyable
Swords and Soldiers- 2d rts, simplified units, and skill tree, but still manages to be varied and offer challenges.
World of Goo- physics puzzler with strong story elements
All of these games have memorable visuals and interesting backgrounds. World of Goo is the star, but each easily justify a $10 pricetag on their own.

Love all of the games in the strategy pack. This might be a bit lazy, but here's a copy and paste of my recommendation for Sol Survivor that I wrote up on Steam awhile back:

You won't find as solid of a tower defense game as this that supports as many players online as it does other than Warcraft 3 or Starcraft 2 custom maps. You'll play this game for the multiplayer since there are campaign co-op modes, survival type modes, versus and a multitude of customization options that offers a lot of different ways to play it along with all the commander abilities/tower type combinations you can use.

It's not the prettiest, but there's quite a whole lot to the package in terms of even singleplayer gameplay. The campaign has different medals you can earn by completing levels in certain ways or on specific difficulties. I've already spent quite a few hours going through the campaign.

As a big fan of the tower defense genre, I highly recommend it, but especially so if you have some buddies to play with. There are other great options out there for sure, but a standalone tower defense game that has this solid of a multiplayer package is a rarity!

This was before Sanctum came out, so that one is pretty solid for co-op multiplayer action. The other 3 games will have you covered on really solid singleplayer gameplay though.
Turns out I already have 3/5 of the tower defense pack
I already have 3/5 in each bundle. I would have probably re-bought if I only had 1 game, maybe 2, but I just can't justify that price for only 2. I'll have to wait until they go on sale individually. I've been wanting to play Revenge of the Titans.
When do midweek deals typically expire?
Thursday at 4pm pacific.

The two indie bundles are worth the prices. Granted, it's possible during one of the holiday sales they might be on sale for less. :)

edit: wow I need to refresh before I reply.

Also, Swords and Soldiers is a lot of fun. It seems pretty simplistic when you start, but every level is different, and it can get pretty hectic.

I have to co-sign this. Fun game.

All the games are pretty solid -- problem is I'd say the deals are only great if you don't own any of them/only own a couple. All of these games typically drop to $2.50 each during the major sales and sometimes lower if in a 5 for $5 pack.

Yeah I too have grabbed Defense Grid from Direct2Drive and Revenge from Humble Indie. I think the other games would worth it tho. Defense Grid and Revenge have been more than worth it.

Wondering as well if I could gift the extras but Im doubting thats possible.

So, according to Steam's Twitter feed, Trine is today's "daily deal" at 75% off (posted about 10 minutes ago). Since iBomber is already today's daily deal, one can only assume that someone at Valve was a bit trigger-happy with the Twitter update and posted tomorrow's deal.

haha yeah, most the time they are pretty slow on the draw

Other than that, there are basically only a few of Valve games that you get gifts for if you already own it. And I do mean just a few, Half-Life 2, Left 4 Dead (1) and HL2: Episode One. Oh and Dawn of War II, if you get DoWII Gold.

Bah, I've got two from each pack (Defense Grid and Revenge of the Titans from the strategy, World of Goo and Swords and Soldiers from the 2D). I can't help thinking that if the remaining games hit $2.50 each in the winter sale, I'd save a couple bucks.

Those two indie packs are kinda gross. Tower defense is the lowest of all genres though Defense Grid is nicely presented.

Of the other bundle only Nyxquest provides actual quality.

False! World of Goo is fantastic and charming.

I want NightSky but I already own 60% of that package. Curses!
If you look through his posts in this thread, I'm convinced that RollingSkull hates fun.
To be honest though, without RollingSkull's posts, I would not have saved so much money on Steam games. That voice of skepticism has caused me to sit out on a fair share of deals. It's nice to read a different opinion from the common gushing of CAG over most titles on Steam.

Keep it up!

Same, but 80%. I'd be paying full price for the one game.

Just for the record, lots of people reported Nyxquest chewing up and corrupting people's saves or just failing to save. They had an update a few months back but LOL INDIE DEVS WHAT ARE CHANGELOGS WHO NEEDS THOSE and they never posted one. The Steampowered forums seem to hint that the save issue might be fixed with that update but I have not seen it confirmed.

If it helps, I had no issues with Nyxquest saving and I liked the game a lot so nyah nyah nyah nyah nyah nyah.
False! World of Goo is fantastic and charming.
World of Goo is charming but so are lots of Flash games. I wouldn't call it especially fantastic though. I found it dreadfully dull.

That's quite correct. You're very perceptive.

Really? I've actually poo-pooed enough games to save someone some money? That's amazing! Anything specific?

I also really like his skepticism. Though a lot of times I don't agree with him, it's a very nice contrast to the "love everything" sort of opinion for the vast majority of games that come up.

Thanks RollingSkull! :D

I appreciate your perspective- it is thoughtful and well presented.

You've saved me from getting the seizure inducing shooter that plays music from personal library- and a few other games.

I just wish I would've been warned about Faerie Solitaire before it sucked ten hours of my life away.

iBomber isn't bad for cheap. I held out on it and got it for $1.24 during the Summer Sale. That's about the right price for it.

It's very basic and there's fairly limited strategy. I can see why it might have made a better iOS game.
