Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Wasn't Broken Sword just free on GOG?
Yes, already mentioned lol.

I don't see Fable 3 listed as weekend deal for me on the main page though. It is marked down at $16.99.

Already got the Broken Sword triple pack from a friend a while back.

I had previously played the DS game, but the PC game is vastly superior with its superb voice-acting.

I already have broken sword for free through gog.com but I think ill pick up all 3 through steam. Spewed

Played a few hours of the first game with my wife and we were both hooked.
It seems with Steam that you can only view the DLC by left-clicking on the actual game title on Steam and viewing DLC. I'm afraid if you buy the DLC without the game, the DLC will just disappear until you purchase it on Steam.
I'm pretty sure that's the case. I've had the SpaceChem DLC for a few months, but didn't get SpaceChem until just this week. I couldn't tell for sure that I had the DLC until I had the game.

The Broken Sword triple pack was like $3.50 two months ago and I think the games were something like $1.66 each. Revolution has been saying for awhile that the 4th game will be available from digital distribution services soon, so if you want the complete package you may want to wait for that as well.

What's interesting is that it's back on Steam. The games were previously available through a third party publisher. I think it was Kalypso. Now they're back after being gone for about a month and the developer is controlling them. That's great.

Unfortunately it seems that they haven't updated the second game to the remastered version yet. That was suppose to happen awhile ago, even before it was pulled. When GOG updated their copies everyone who already bought it got the remastered version automatically. Hopefully that happens on Steam as well.
I have Fable III on GFWL and I'm interested in the DLC and Steam even says you'll get a code to redeem on GFWL. But it also says I have to start up the game and get the code from the Steam overlay after launching Fable.
So does this really mean I won't have access to the GFWL codes without buying Fable III on Steam?
Steam won't even let you purchase the DLC unless you have the game already.
Steam won't even let you purchase the DLC unless you have purchased the game from Steam already.
Fixed your post.

But yes, you are correct and this is an important point for all non-Steamworks games. If you are considering buying a game that has copious DLC, think carefully about where you're getting it from before you buy. You are most likely locked into that platform for obtaining the DLC down the road. Some big examples from the last couple of years: Borderlands, BFBC2, Fallout 3.
Is it just me or is Crysis way harder than Crysis 2?
it completely is. The AI is really good.

One thing that I had a problem with was the time it takes for your energy to regen when you crank up the difficulty; the AI is really smart, and is a ton of fun to play against on harder difficulties, but by turning up the difficulty you also greatly increase the time it takes for your energy to regenerate, which is frustrating. So I used a mod that lets you manipulate that kind of stuff. I just improved the AI, told em to go prone and throw grenades more in strategic circumstances, and kept the energy regen at normal levels. Made the game a ton of fun.
Fixed your post.
I'm sure that was all implied, unless you think people are going to assume that Steam has the power to prevent them from making purchases from other sites.

Well if you want to get technical, as long as you have the game on Steam purchased through Steam or by other means (Steam version, this doesn't include the non-Steam version that you can "add to your Steam library"), you can buy the DLC. This means you can get the game by other means (i.e. gifting, Steam-redeemable codes, if the game is a Steamworks title, etc.) and still be able to get the DLC. Just saying. :)
Steam won't even let you purchase the DLC unless you have the game already.
That's what I thought too, but I can add the DLC to my cart and get to the payment screen without problems. I stopped there just in case I do buy it when I continue.

@anarchyoblivion and @gcorlett

Thanks for clearing it up. I expected it not to work but I hoped I was wrong about it.

Same thing happened to me with Borderlands. Bought the retail DLC and tried to get the DLC to work with the base game I bought on Steam. Incompatible versions of course, but Steam refunded my money.

It just makes no sense to me that I'd get GFWL codes for the DLC from Steam for a game I have on GFWL but I'd have to own the Steam version which requires GFWL to even run. Ah whatever, the DLC would have been good enough to get them but I'm forced to pass on them.

Can't help but agree, but Steam is all-powerful and wants to force you to buy the game from them.

Ooo, I must say, Fable III is tempting, especially with cheap DLC.

I did try the 360 game for a few hours before sending it to Goozex. I had a hard time getting into it. Wasn't a fan of the death of the menus.
And if you don't preorder, you're at the mercy of whatever agreements the publisher worked out with various retailers on if/when the bonus preorder items will be available as DLC. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
Eh... maybe you lose sleep over preorder DLC but I don't. Usually it's just another gun or skin or something fairly trivial. Anyway, some publishers -- like Bethesda -- have taken to selling all preorder stuff later on as purchasable DLC.
I loved the first Fable, but I'm too OCD to play the third in the series and not the second. No 360 means no Fable II for me :(
I was pissed as well, but I can't just pass up the series because of it. =P
Is Steam going to sell Batman Arkham City?
I don't see this mentioned anywhere..
The Nvidia promo that is happening right now is giving Steam redeemable codes for the game, so I think it's safe to assume it will be coming to Steam. I believe the PC version got delayed though, which is why it might not be on the store page yet

Those bastards! I'll sue!

You can cart it and purchase it, but only as a gift. I did that with the New Vegas DLCs because I have a retail copy of the main game that I haven't activated yet.

I'm exactly the same. If I enjoy the first one enough (backlogged), then I'll buy a 360 before doing III.

What I find funny is that GMG has it up there but Steam does not.
What I find funny is that GMG has it up there but Steam does not.
Steam seems to be pretty sporadic when it comes to listing coming games. Some are up for ages (Super Meat Boy was up for at least 6 months, probably longer) and others get put up maybe a couple weeks before release. I imagine a lot of it has to do with what the publishers decide.
Does Fable 3 require the player to fart and do stupid dances in front of NPC to gain favor like Fable 2 did?
We can only hope so.
Does Fable 3 require the player to fart and do stupid dances in front of NPC to gain favor like Fable 2 did?
Not only that, it loads an instance for you to do it in.

Just wanted to point out that the Renegade Ops group pack is 29.99, so that would make an ideal group pack purchase. That's effectively half off. I'll start a thread for the four pack.

Whomever has the steamed version of fable, can they just buy the dlc and gift it to a nonsteamed fable over steam so we can retrieve the key? Or It is it required for the recipient of the gift to own a steamed fable?
I'm sure that was all implied, unless you think people are going to assume that Steam has the power to prevent them from making purchases from other sites.
Considering how many questions we see on CAG that are of the "will this activate on Steam?" variety, I think it's all up in the air what other people think Steam can do! I thought your post made perfect sense, but random passers-by seem to need this stuff spelled out over and over.
Well if you want to get technical, as long as you have the game on Steam purchased through Steam or by other means (Steam version, this doesn't include the non-Steam version that you can "add to your Steam library"), you can buy the DLC. Even more specific than my correction! Thank you sir.

You know, it's cases like this that give me sympathy for Steam's side of their disagreement with EA. Valve wants all DLC available through Steam for every game they sell. EA wants to cut Valve out of the $-equation with in-game DLC purchases. Aside from the money issue, there is a convenience factor, and also a case for it being less confusing for the purchaser.

DotD is COGS for $3.40.

I got this in the HIB3, and you probably did, too. I rather enjoyed it. Here is my Steam recommendation:
Cogs is a fine little puzzle game. The puzzles are of the sort where you slide interlocking tiles around on a board. You probably played with a puzzle like this when you were a child, one with tiles numbered 1 through 15, and you worked to get the numbers in order. Cogs uses similar mechanics, except you're sliding tiles with pipes and gears on them, creating a huge crazy machine.

There are a few dozen puzzles in here, of increasing difficulty. I had to do some diagramming for the last 8 puzzles.

The presentation, however, is the best part of this game. The sound is fantastic - you can hear the steam hissing, the gears grinding, the balloons filling. It's just wonderful to sit with headphones and enjoy the sound as you play.

If you stick through to the end, make sure you score enough to do the "Final Credits" puzzle. It's difficult, and so worth it!
I didn't like Cogs, but I don't usually like puzzle games. If you like puzzle games, ignore me.
I like the idea of Cogs, I like the presentation of the game, and I like the first few puzzles that I can actually do, but I suck so bad at it.

If previous HIBs are anything to go by, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see HIB3 included in HIB4 for paying more than the average. So keep that in mind if you're interested and patient.

if i've purchased Fable 3 during a MS sale, can i still purchase the DLCs from Steam and use it?

- From the text description, seems like the DLCs purchased from Steams are just activation keys, similar to any XBLA title. Tried to make the purchase of the DLC alone and it wouldn't allow me because i don't own Fable 3 on Steam. smart. i'm wondering if someone would purchase it and just help me get the DLC key? willing to pay via PayPal.

Since the DLC's are just activation keys for GFWL, I think it would be possible for someone to buy it for someone else then send the keys. However, that person would also have to own Fable III, and they wouldn't be able to buy it for themselves afterward (as steam will only let you buy the dlc once and thus only get one code). The only people who would be able to help out the GFWL shoppers would be steam users who just want the base game, and i bet that's probably not the largest group.
