Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

When I said lately I was referring to after the halloween sale.
When I said lately I was referring to after the halloween sale.
well in that case I give the same answer that I gave before. I think it's silly to say " Steam has really dropped the ball lately and I hope it changes soon" based on not even 3 weeks and when you know the holiday sales are coming

God. Just shut the fuck up, tominater12 and atreyuevr. Good Steam sales come periodically. A company can't have deals on everything you want every week. You aren't the only members of Steam. Suck it up and quit acting like whiny bitches.

I really wish a mod would be more active in this thread and stop it from going to shit every 20 pages with atreyuevr's meaningless bickering. /ignore list

has anyone done the ign prime free 7 day trial to get free games? Their newest free game is King Arthur Role Playing Game, which registers on steam. I did the signup, but everytime I try to get the code, it just sends me into an eternal loop of logging in as a member. It keeps telling me that I need to login as a prime member in order to redeem the game, eventhough I'm already logged in.

You mad bro? My "meaningless bickering" is just me offering up my opinion on Steam deals, clearly on topic. Instead of posting meaningless hate here, why don't you visit your friendly neighborhood psych, ask him/her "why am I so mad at atreyuevr?" He'll/she'll give you some advice. ;)

I wasn't whining btw. =] But nice try.

Try using a pm next time instead of posting your nonsense flaming here.

On topic: I wish the weekend deal was better. =/

And while we're at it, can we all agree to stop asking if the Steam store is down for anybody else? Every 20 pages or so we get a page of people asking and reporting if the Steam page is down for them. Yes, in case you're new to the internet, websites do go down for a couple of minutes/seconds from time to time. Just relax and wait a bit, no need to clutter the thread with your two minute trouble of loading a website and encouraging others to validate.
Of course this gets much worse with the big sale daily deals.

I had the 30 day trial and it worked great for me. Maybe it's one of the changes they made when they dropped down to 7. Thanks for the FYI on the free game though.

I can't help but facepalm at the argument of the past page or two. Informing the thread that "I think the recent Steam sales have been subpar with the exception of those that were not" is about as useful as posting that toast may or may not contain elements of bread depending on the time and method used in toasting. Thank you so much for sharing and then filling the thread with the redundant defense of your statement.

I had this exact problem and gave up.
Also you will find the longer you follow steam deals the worse they get as it is just harder to get excited about them. You either already have the game or passed last time as well.
This is very true.

Regardless of what everyone thinks about what I said about the deals being not that great lately, all of the hate was way too blown out of proportion. You either disagree or you don't, why make it any more than that? Just let it be lol... "Suck it up".

I had the problem as well. However, the strange this is I logged on with my fileplanet info and viola it worked!
Let us all put all our differences and opinions aside and collectively prepare for the trauma that all of our wallets will receive in fewer than 7 days.
Steam has been a second chance for me, and I expect that might be true for many of you as well. It has been a chance not only for games and savings, but also to be a different man. And I hope a better one. There have been many ideas brought forth in the past few pages about what a Steam sale is, and what it should become. We are not all in agreement. But I'd like to ask each of you what it is you value so highly that you are willing to bicker and possibly get Ignore Listed for. We will call that a Steam sale.

The Amazon download sales hope to lure us into attempting escape. Almost anything seems better than Bejeweled 3, half off. If, however, we force the enemy to attack, I believe every one of you will prove himself worth ten in return. We will not only show the world what cheap asses are made of, we will also deal a crippling blow to full price games. If anyone wishes to depart under the white flag of surrender, you may do so now. You have that right. But if you wish to stay here with me, in the Steam thread, we will sell our wallets dearly.

because this is the internet and a cag pc forum. this is where assholes practice their craft.
Doesn't change the fact that the sales have been crap lately.
Crap is relative. I look at the three games you most recently played in your signature thingy (generic military shooter clones) and I see 'crap.' Ah well.
Crap is relative. I look at the three games you most recently played in your signature thingy and I see 'crap.'
Lol... Yet again misunderstood. I don't discriminate, I'm speaking of the amount that is discounted, not the games that are discounted. No need to offer up your opinion, I'll keep my opinion of what you say to myself. ;)

It's all just one gigantic misunderstanding *rolleyes*

I'm sorry, but posting "whatever sales of whatever time period are some kind of good or bad thing" isnt an opinion that's going to further any discussion of any topic other than the defense of such a meaningless random general statement of pure blahness. Be specific, then we can have a discussion about a particular game or a particular sale and then we can have some interesting interaction and discussion. Ugh.

Not sure if this was posted in here yet, and I know there is already a thread about it, but there is Dawn of War II: Gold for $4.99 (Digital Download) on Amazon and if I am not mistaken it requires Steam (and I know the code works on steam).

I know I can hardly spend anything right now for budgetary reasons, but I'm still excited about the upcoming Black Friday sale. There's not a ton I'm interested in right now as I'm working on my backlog, but sometimes these sales introduce me to games I haven't heard of yet. And usually, you can get it cheap. Like Ghost Mater during the Halloween Sale.

That happens to me all the time. Huge backlog, but I buy games anyways. It is an addiction.

wooo I have been looking for a deal on those games for awhile. Thanks
Hydrophobia $2.25 75% off is the Daily Deal
This is one of the more intriguing daily deals in a while. I think I'll bite.

Edit: The Steam trade/inventory system is brilliant. A game like Hydrophobia is added to the backlog but remains alienable if you change your mind.
Anyone think Rage probably drop to $30 during the Steam sale? The military exchange has the retail version for $30 during BF weekend.
Great chance it'll hit 33%, decent change it'll hit 50%. Either way, that still equals to a maximum savings of $30, making it $30.

Guess I'll get the retail. It has Steamworks, but I like having the physical disc so I don't have do the initial download if I ever switchout my pc.
Should I spend money on Steam sales or other Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals? I only have enough for 1 new game.
That depends if you are more of a PC or console gamer. If you are looking for a new PC game you'd probably be best served waiting for the Steam sale. The brick and mortars are doing very little in the way of PC game sales for Black Friday and thus far Amazon's countdown to Black Friday deals for the PC have been less than thrilling.

With Steam, the usual advice for the big sales holds. Don't buy anything unless it's deal of the day during the sale or it hasn't gone deal of the day and it's the last day of the sale.

If you lean more toward the consoles then definitely go the Best Buy/K-Mart/Target/Walmart/Amazon etc route. Most of their sales have already been posted so you can browse them in the sticky thread at the top of the forum.

I'm more of a PC gamer... Batman AC is coming out next week but I have a good feeling it'll drop down in price by the time Black Friday rolls around. It'll be $28 for consoles but I'm not sure about the PC version...
What's the lowest the Dragon Age Ultimate has gone for? That's another one I'm hoping to get this upcoming sale.
If I remember correctly, $10.20 as a daily deal during the Summer Sales event. Since it has been about 4-5 months since, I'm sure it will drop sub-$10 during the upcoming sales.
DOA2 not with Steam? Ack... Well, I hope EA store has a good sale then. :)
Sucks, I know, but we have to deal.

Origin has already had an awesome deal on it, I expect another sale on it too in the upcoming months. They had it on sale for $11.50 as well as D2D back in July, was an insta-buy for me, even if the game has flaws. I expect a similar price on it, if not lower. :)

It has been $8 several times on origin.

If you check Ebay, you can find codes that activate on Steam for Arkham City for around that price and lower. People are selling the codes they got for it that came with video cards.

Magicka seems interesting.. but im stuck 5 mins into the game. Checked out gamefaqs and it wasn't any help. I know this isn't the best place to put this but what are you supposed to do at the beginning of the game? I grab a staff.. hit 'W' and click the middle mouse to heal myself like it says. My health bar clearly maxes out.. but wtf??? It doesn't progress any further. I am just doing the free trial for the weekend but if its this glitchy then forget it.

EDIT: Pretty lame.. had to restart and then it worked... not a good sign

Magicka is incredibly buggy. It's still a wonderful game. Nothing else like it out there, and it's super cheap.
