Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

+1 for Orcs Must Die, I found it to be an addicting trap-defense shooter. I'd suggest everyone try the demo but seems like steam servers are already crying. Probably going to pick up Portal 2 for $10, I don't think I'll see it any cheaper any time soon.

Actually havn't heard of Renegade Ops
If that isn't steam's official sales motto, I don't know what is.

Is it cheap? Well, I don't know if I'll ever play it, but it's nice to have the option.

200+ games later... Crap. What have I done?
Rule of thumb only buy a game if you intend to play it "one day" and only if you don't think it will get any cheaper. I'm probably not going to play Orcs must Die right away but its never going to get any cheaper than it is today! :)

Oh yeah if you don't already have Portal 2 you should jump right on that. Game of the year material right there. I had a ton of fun with it. Even the Co Op with a buddy was a blast.
I just got off a plane and checked my Steam wishlist. Everything is on sale and this thread is like 90 pages longer. If my brain explodes before I get caught up on all of this I want everyone in thread to know that I love each and everyone of you. Good bye!
Alas, louiedog, we hardly knew ye...
Is 12.50 a good price for Oblivion? I'm loving Skyrim and now I'm looking to going back and playing the other games in the series.

Sale is ideal, but how long will it last and do you think a further drop is possible?
It was just cheaper last week. See if it is a daily or wait for the next sale unless you need it quick.

The deluxe GOTY version was like $6.50 the week Skyrim released. Wait it out.

Ugh. I missed that. I'll wait it out. Maybe this sale or the Xmas one it will dip in price. Heard the mods for that game are great...

Oh, I intend to play them all "one day," but when my average cost per and in my library is under $3, what's a couple hundred extra games?

Thinking about Orcs Must Die and the Oddbox.

Going to see if the Orange Box is a daily deal since I already have Portal and Team Fortress 2.

Only other game I am really hoping for is sub $40 Skyrim, but I am not expecting it.

Picked up Breath of Death VII/Cthulhu Saves the World pack for a buck. Orcs Must Die looks interesting and it's a good price but my backlog is pretty big...

So this is the sale in which I shall hit 200 games. Well played, Steam.

Well played.

I'm in for Orcs Must Die, maybe Portal 2. But since I won't be playing Portal 2 any time soon, I may just wait that out to hit $7.50 or $5. And so much else of my wishlist is on sale and hopefully a daily, money might be better spent there.

I think I'll end up getting Cthulu too, by the end of the sale. Also Sims Midieval. Probably Runespell: Overture. Perhaps Dungeons of Dredmore.

...

Steam sucks my money away from me. Not that I'm really trying to wishstand temptation. :D
Deus EX: HR isn't on steam anymore?

I have it in my WL. It isn't showing a price, also when I click on the store page button it sends me to steam's front page (the same as DA2).
It's still there for me.

Orcs Must Die for me today.

Seriously... Duke Nukem at $6.79 is quite reasonable. It's very unlikely that it'll drop any farther. If you can run the game and you don't mind some rough edges, the price is more than fair.

Lots of really great games at lower prices that everyone should at least check out: Nation Red, Tidalis, Delve Deeper, Clones and more.

God damn Faerie Solitare is addicting.

Just one more hand then I will quit.
Just one more hand...
About 5 hands later... fuck

Also love the music in it. Great gem for $1

It's ECON101 stuff and it works: Lower the price to the point where the price isn't an impediment and watch the sales soar. I was adding the latest Humble Bundle to Steam today and looked at my list and had several "I have THAT?" moments. I think I've had this conversation with Steam several times:

STEAM: I've got a game here.

ME: What is it?

STEAM: It's $4.00.

ME: SOLD!!!

Aaaaaaannnnd SCENE!
Whoever linked to www.deal4downloads.com, I don't know whether to thank you or get mad at you.

The daily deals change, so don't buy anything until the last day lest it becomes a daily deal (and discounted more than what you bought it for.) All the other games on sale (and there are a lot of them) will stay this price until the last day. Pick them up then, just in case.

Prior to you demise, can you sign over your Steam account and other earthly possessions to me. ;)

Currently, I'm considering:

Orcs Must Die
Mass Effect 2

Quick question are the Christmas sales generally better than the Black Friday ones? Recettear is $10 but last year around Christmas (and over the summer) it was $5. Should I buy it now or wait and see if it goes on sale again around Christmas?

Renegade Ops and Orcs must Die for me today. A bunch of stuff is on sale on my wish list (Dungeon Defenders I'm looking at you) but gonna try in buy those after all the daily deals end. Also anybody know why the heck Jade Empire never goes on sale?!!! Really want that game.
Quick question are the Christmas sales generally better than the Black Friday ones?
Yes, like you wouldn't believe.
Yes, like you wouldn't believe.
I feel like some clarification is needed here.

Are the Christmas sales overall better than the BF one? Yes
Are the Daily Deals generally of a higher percentage for a given game? Rarely.

So for example I would bet some decent money that Mass Effect 2 isn't below $5 at Christmas and Orcs Must Die isn't below 3.74$

Sales outside of the daily deals are also generally better at Christmas with lots of large packs and the such.

Also, anything released this fall will probably be either on sale or for a better deal in December.
Yes. Nation Red is the shit.
Also anybody know why the heck Jade Empire never goes on sale?!!! Really want that game.
Yeah, seriously. It's literally never been on sale since I started using Steam.

Agreed. Fun to play on the netbook while the wife is watching reality tv.
So is this the black friday sale going on or just the autumn sale? I'm not seeing a ton of ZOMG deals yet...
Pretty sure this is it, who knows maybe they are saving the best daily deals for black friday?

got ME1, Orcs Must Die and Cthulthu/Breathe of Death VII

thinking to get ME2 even though i have it on Origin Client and PS3, just for the game time tracking feature of steam...

hope fallout 3 goty and new vegas + DLCs 75% off as well later on, want to try them on PC.
So is this the black friday sale going on or just the autumn sale? I'm not seeing a ton of ZOMG deals yet...
Either you own them all, or you aren't looking very hard, because those deals are sick.

Rock of Ages if half off, really hoping it gets a daily!

Steam usually runs a deal week around Black Friday and another around Christmas week.

Their deals during these periods, at least imo, aren't generally any better than their other sales (Summer sale).

But that doesn't mean there aren't screaming deals to be had if they're selling something you don't have (I picked up Portal 2 and OMD)

My thoughts on today's November 2011 Thanksgiving Deals:

Portal 2: - $10 is nice. It's possible this will go for $6 in the winter 2011 sale too. Valve games are most prone to that. Do you care to risk about $4 loss? Except you might also see this cheaper in a Valve pack HOWEVER, who the hell doesn't have almost 90% of the valve games in those packs already. My thoughts, this is the essential buy of he day!

COD: Black Ops, it's cheaper, but only die hard fans. FPS fans including myself will wait. $29.99 is still too high for what's to come and if you want to survive this sale I insist you "hold" sir. Unless this is one of the only guys you wanna buy then go right ahead...but I personally think it's too high for how long it's already been out. Still being at damn $59.99 retail AFTER COD:3 is already out is ridiculous.

Oddbox. Fans only. Most of them are like Snes quality games in the pack. meh

*sigh* I tried to talk myself down but I ended up adding these to the backlog lol:

Humble Bundle (Steam achievements for playing Defcon? Yes please)
Orcs Must Die (I love tower defense and action rpgs. The trailer alone had sold me)
Renegade Ops (Reminds me of Death Rally and Zombie Driver)
Duke Nukem Forever (I am ashamed of myself. But I have fond memories of playing D3D so I have to at least give it a shot)

If Dungeon Defenders and "Space Pirates and Zombies" don't end up as daily deals I'll probably buy them too at 50% off.
Pretty sure this is it, who knows maybe they are saving the best daily deals for black friday?
Fine with me. Between some of the sales from last week, buying my 3D tv at a steal, and this coming Friday I'll have close to $1500 spent 0_0

Bought Orcs Must Die too along with TDU2. Amazon seems to have PM most of the games on sale. They even had La Noire for 10 for a brief moment. Managed to snagged one before sale disappeared.

Not sure why Steam is complaining about me not having enough money in my Steam Wallet. I never used it before and I've been buying my games using PayPal...
Prior to you demise, can you sign over your Steam account and other earthly possessions to me. ;)

That is what im considering for today as well. ME2 has been $5 every single time and I knew to wait on the Amazon sale. I can always wait on it to be cheaper ? I also have most of the DLC for Xbox.

Might grab the DLC for Orcs must Die. Played the demo and loved it. Love tower defense games and the demo was alot of fun. I like the cartoony look and action.
