Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Does THQ charge for preorders? I am tempted to get a Darksiders 2 preorder and then decide if I want to keep it but only if they don't charge me the full amount.
They'll preauthorize which charges it, then disappears a few days later. They final charge when they ship.

In the end, I'm thankful for Skyrim. That $60 is really holding me back from buying many other games because I know the backloggery that would ensure would be terrible indeed.

Hope folks are enjoying this steam sale so far. :p

Do you know if you can cancel preorders?

I gave Faerie Solitaire a spin, count me as a convert. That's pretty entertaining, and for $1 I almost feel bad. Kinda looking forward to playing more when I get home from work late.
You should be able to, though I've not done so with them.
Ordered. Hopefully it's steamworks or it gets canceled.

I'm surprised retailers haven't discounted Saints Row 3 anywhere. I still have a few copies if anyone want it cheap.
Popularity does not necessarily equal a better game. Honestly if someone was a fan of the Civ series prior to Civ 5 I'd tell them to stick with Civ 4.
Sure, yes. And bbviously "better" is subjective for each different player. But this game isn't Call of Duty But you can't deny the staying power of this game. It's been out for over 14 months, and it's still in Steam's top 10 list, and that, I think, is a pretty good indication that lots of people are playing it and still enjoying it.

I'm not Civ 5's staunchest defender by a long shot. I played for 20 hours and then wrote a scathing review on my Steam "recommend" board. I promised myself that I'd come back and try again after the major updates... and I haven't. But after playing 5, Civ 4 feels so stale to me. The "stacks of doom" are so stupid... and almost as awkward as the one-mil-unit-per-tile problem of Civ 5.

But they are like apples and oranges, I guess. Each has strengths. I think the best way forward would be a new Civ after 3 years instead of 5... one that successfully melds the best of each of the last 2 versions. Was it you who suggested this? Sounds like a better idea every time I think of it.:)

Edit: It was Nova_01 who suggested that.

See, for me I think the thing that changed most in the equation was....me.

I'm just at a different point in my life where those 4AM Civ sessions just can't happen anymore and I rarely get to play for more than an hour or two at a time. For me that changes the equation immensely and I think the game suffers from it.

Civ IV truly shined for me when I was in college and I would sit down for a weekend and probably from 25 hours into a game over the span of two days (and still have plenty of time for copious alcohol consumption).

Now I need a game to grab me from the word go instead of spending the first couple of hours just trying to get to my Legions of doom (I play as the Romans mostly).

I tried searching but got a headache... hopefully somebody could answer this real quick... but if i have GTAIII already on steam, and i purchase the franchise on steam that includes all of the games, what would happen to the copy of GTAIII that I already have??

Thanks in advance.

Nothing. You end up with just one copy of GTA III. No extras.

Ooh, I do! How much? I'm considering buying from Amazon (PC DD) for $40.

Hey, do you need to pay some kind of pass to play this game with a friend on PC?
Is there a reason to get both of the Serious Sam games? Does one of them have more players online than the other?
I know that no one is online for SSHD 1st encounter.
I have yet to install 2nd encounter, but people say that there is a huge community of people playing it.

Nothing for me today. Some good stuff that I have already. Just as well, though, since I spent a good part of the past day shopping...

I could have sworn Tages was patched out of Riddick, they just never update the game pages. I could be wrong though.

EDIT: Looked through Steam forums and other locations and can't find that anywhere. I must be thinking of another game that had the DRM patched out. Disregard.

Damn, A10C Warthog is 50% off right now. I doubt it'll be a daily deal, but I'm gonna wait to grab it until the last day anyway.

So far, only have picked up Deus Ex through Amazon for $20. I've been really wanting the game, and my selling point was $25, but I couldn't pass up $20.

Might get Call of Cthulhu before the sale ends, but I am hoping for a daily deal on the AC games.

This is the cheapest Call of Cthulhu has ever been, so make sure you pick it up before the sale ends if you want it.

Just a reminder, there is a Steam group buying thread where such discussion should take place. All posts to this thread putting together group buys are considered off topic and will be deleted.

I guess I'm not playing GTA IV anytime soon. Just ran the tests on it on my rig and I just can't get the levels up to acceptable. My 6 year old build is in bad need of an upgrade.

Cry more. A couple posts you can skip is not a big deal. Posts like yours are just as off topic and contribute to the notion of CAG being full of stuck up nerds

Someone hasn't read the forum rules. Might wanna go through that before you're punished. ;)

He's actually very correct in what he's saying. That's why there are specific threads, and not just one thread for Steam. We may be nerds, but at least we know the rules. =/

I know the rules, they are just too strictly applied. I did not start a new thread in the video game deals. Most of the posts in here are worthless and are just repeating the same info. Just ignore it, stop being a Nazi, and after 10 minutes, a new page will start.

It would have taken twice as long to finish a 4 pack with that thread compared to this one.

But I am done with this pointless off topic ranting

So basically you know the rules and refuse to follow them, sounds like you've aged well. ;)

Rules are rules, regardless of the increased amount of attention this thread gets compared to the group buy thread.

Kids these days...

Soooo, what is everyone holding out to buy til the last day?

Considering the Christmas sale is right around the corner, I'm thinking of getting Runespell:Overture and Sims Medieval.
who cares?
I do.

There's a group buy thread set up for a reason, to keep this thread about the deal and keep the off-topic posts where they belong, out of here.

Thread in question is here:

Go use it and keep your buy/sell posts out of here. Use PMs or the thread in question listed above. You've been here almost five years, I'd like to think you've had time to read the rules and know where things go.
Hoping for a daily deal on anything that I'm considering picking up, just in hope of getting the biggest discount. ;)
I know what you mean. I'll likely get Runespell because it has a 75% off discount.

As for Sims content, it seems that it doesn't usually get discounted below 50%. Sims 3 got a discount of about 60% over the summer. So if I get Sims Medieval with the current 50% discount, I probably won't be upset by a discount too drastic in the near future.

Yeah, Sims games don't usually go more than 50% off, Runespell however probably won't go for more than 75% off, so you'll probably be fine. As for me, my OCD won't let me buy anything until the last day unless it's a daily deal. =P

yeah, if a few expensive-ish things i've wanted get deeply discounted to $5ish on a daily deal, i'll get them (Dragon Age: Origins, Fallout 3 complete, Metro 2033). any indie that i want that makes it down to around $5-$8 i'll bite on (waiting to see if From Dust and Cave Story+, in particular, drop a bit).

other than that, i'm doing what i usually do, which is wait until something i have on the 360/PS3 that i either never finished or never played at all makes it to the $5 range, and then i bite. so, i've actually purchased quite a bit this sale so far -- both mass effects, plus fallout: new vegas. and a smattering of indies.

Yeah, I'm confident I'll get enough enjoyment to justify the few book difference that's certainly possible at the Christmas sale. Sims is too popular to get like a 90% discount.

Also, I want to get it on Steam before EA snatches it away.

And yes, Shrike is awesome. :applause:
