We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Opposing Force CD-keys cannot be registered through Steam. Opposing Force was included in a retail Half-Life package. The Half-Life CD-key included in the package will unlock all of the games in that package, including Opposing Force.
Note: Only the retail games listed above can be registered through Steam. No other retail games can be registered and downloaded using Steam.

Hey guys, if you really want to get Portal 2 for $7.49, I was able to click back and forth around the site (while swearing) and the price popped up again. It let me go through the whole checkout process and only charged me $7.49. Might be worth a shot.

Finally. Got a 33% off any Valve game, and then a 50% off STALKER Clear Sky (but both are only applicable after Jan 2nd so boo)

I saw a bit of fine print somewhere though saying that if you get a Golden coupon, that coupon can be used DURING the sale. A bit of Willy Wonka, there :p

They give you a coupon for a Valve game, but the coupon is only good after the holiday sale.

I like that bonus. A free game? Sweet!
 
If we already own our free gift game, can we trade it? ...better be able to. That or I'll fart in a jar and label it "valve's gift." I need all the giving I can give :D!!

It says on the details page that we are free to trade away both the games and coupons and anything else we get during the sale.
 
I think I got Half-Life 2 Episode 2 as my free gift, but the second I read what it was, it booted me back to the main store page.. the gift page is incredibly glitchy right now.
 
Wow, the discounts really went down on those publisher bundles. Some of them were like 85-90% off half an hour ago.
 
Awesome. I think trying to get Dead Island when it was cheap screwed over my account. I must've tried to check out a dozen times or more and it always failed out before the final step, or the price was high by the final confirmation, and I'd try again. I would think some sort of security measure kicked in preventing too many purchases, except none of them were ever completed, so I don't see why that would be the case. Now I have to wait several days for them to get back to me.

And this is why I hate the archaic ticket support system.

Maybe through this Steam sale, I'll finally play Half Life 2. But then, I assume the prizes vary by the game you earn them from? Or maybe those are the prizes for the overall sale? Valve games?
 
how did you guys get your inventory to load up? trying to right now and it just keeps telling me i have an empty inventory (i know i have some TF2 items in there even).

any insight fellas?

I had an empty inventory but also there was this black box so I right clicked on it and chose reload then when the page loaded it looked totally different, it had a layout and a.... 33% off a valve game coupon. I've been naughty indeed.
 
so I was able to get to my inventory after a couple tries, but the gift / first sale achievement isn't there. I'm now very sad. Guess it's time to come back in a couple hours.

And I'm not gonna lie, not a fan of their layout, with the pages all off to the side and no overlay and stuff.
 
Wow... I don't think I've ever had so much trouble even loading the store on past sales, even in the first hour. They're getting slammed...

a little less sarcasm please? it was a valid question, i was wondering if there was a method some people were using that worked for them other than "spam F5" and cause more load on the servers.

but since we are on that topic, i really do hope they fix this soon. i really want that Dead Island DLC for 1.69!

I had to refresh 40+ times for it to show my gift. I recommend checking back in a couple hours (don't know how long it usually takes for steam issues to be fixed).
 
Unless Valve deviates from past "events" having daily achievements that don't require you to own a game (wishlist an item, leave a comment, etc.), I predict some srsly snky bsns.

1. Open new Steam account / use old TF2 idle account.
2. Complete daily objectives for coal and gifts.
3. Trade wintry booty to main account.
4. Profit, forsooth!

I'm assuming they've thought of this.

edit: Apparently SteamTrade isn't available without a purchased game on your account. That leaves the multi-account gifting to TF2 Premium Idlers ($5.00) and HIB purchasers (>= $0.01)

Don't forget that there's a Telltale Complete pack at 75% that includes a lot of those games at a discount.

I'm waffling between getting Sam & Max today or waiting until later in the sale (after my next paycheck) to bite on Telltale Complete. Sam & Max are the only ones I'm dying to play, but I'm interested in the Money Island games, Back to the Future, and Hector.

I'm tempted by the Pendulo pack, but I'm on a budget and I'd rather save my money for daily deals on Whispered World, Monkey Island classics, or another game I'm really interested in. I'm afraid there'll be more episodes in The Next Big Thing anyway.

In non-Adventure games: I'll definitely get Portal 2 if it settles on 75%.

I'll second the reminder on the TellTale Complete Pack. It's a bit more than it used to be, but they've added Back to the Future and Jurassic Park this year. It's still an excellent deal for adventure game fans.

Also: The Pendulo Adventure Pack is exactly what I've been waiting for them to do. Now to decide if I buy or be content with my backlog of adventure games as is.

That and there have been price mistakes on daily deals making them cheaper then they were supposed to be. I think 2 years ago that happened to the Gothic bundle.
