Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

You've got a point there, especially since CAPCOM was going to remove it a year or so after its release. (My understanding is that they did that with Flock.) However, it seems they forgot about that, so the game remains in limbo.

Still, for less than a dollar, the limitation is not much of an issue. (Unless it's a matter of principle, of course.)

Anyone get the Renegade Ops Achievement? I know it's the first mission of the Coldstrike Campaign but I can't seem to find Santa.
Yeah, it's the first mission, but it isn't the first "level". I was driving along a road and noticed the shadow of a sleigh and reindeer first... drove north a few feet and there was santa/sleigh and he dropped a present.

Finally got that Renegade Ops holiday achievement. Santa is a fucking random spawn so you have to get lucky in the coldstrike campaign.

On the plus side though I love Renegade Ops. It reminds me of the old Desert/Jungle/Urban Strike games on the Genesis and SNES which I used to really enjoy back in the day.
Too much negativity towards E.Y.E. in here. I think it's great, especially for $2.50. Within 20 minutes of playing the game, I was dual wielding an automatic pistol and a katana, in a cyber church surrounded by angelic techno monk-knights in armor and Raiden hats and crowns, speaking in a weird language about cyber-brains. Have I mentioned I like the setting yet?
The game's insane...and a lot of fun.
And that's how I felt, spending $10 on it.

At $2.50, it's a steal.
LOL they really should have put more thought into this system. You shouldn't get coupons or games you already have XD
Maybe it's meant for TRADING achievement for the Stockpile. :p

Just in case anyone is interested, I have a Saints Row The Third steam code (acquired it from Green Man Gaming with my trade in credit) and I don't really want that game. So, I am willing to trade it for Back to the Future & Pay Day The Heist (both games). Which would run you $17.50 if you caught both daily deals or if they return on Sunday when they repeat the deals.

Just keep that in mind.
Man Dungeon Defenders receives more updates than Windows! I was browsing and noticed that Steam started downloading the second update for it since I signed in tonight!
One time, we had 5-6 patches in 3 days, I think. The developers are a little patch happy, which is both a blessing and a curse. It's great that they are so willing to keep the game updated and add new things to it, but they also tend to use the fact that Steam allows such frequent updates to not so thoroughly test things, since they can just fix it later.
9 objectives completed, 9 lumps of coal. Lucky me.
I got a 50% off coupon for a game that is currently 50% off and then 8 coal in a row. I'm not sure which of us is winning...

How long does it take to get your account activated on the steam forums? It's been an hour and I want to trade.

Took about a day for me. Don't expect it to be activated in a few hours.

Just did the Audiosurf, Fate of the World, and Frozen Synapse achievements. Coal, coal, and coal. I'll do the trading one tomorrow with a friend for more coal. I'll also probably buy E.Y.E. and get a bit more coal from that.

Its starting to look like my 33% Skyrim will be the highlight of my winnings.

BTW, congrats! :)
Hmm, I see the full Dejobaan collection for $5 (75% off). Anyone have any opinions on that deal? It's 75% off so I don't know if it will daily or not.
Wow, I thought this was part of a daily from a couple days ago. It's a great deal if you don't own any of the games. I already owned the first Aaaaa and still bought it. I thought there would be more to 1 2 3 Kick It, but then again, the game is still in development. Overall I'm happy with the purchase.

A lot of people don't like Aaaaaa, but those people tend to be the ones who bought it sight unseen just to do the holiday achievements (which are very hard, especially if you haven't unlocked any of the abilities from playing the regular game).

It's a fine game that got a lot of positive buzz before its reputation was tarnished by their bad achievements.

Their other games, I hear are legitimately not-so-good. I do recommend Aaaaa.

Well, that went well. $19 of DLC for the DOTA 2 key. I gave the guy a hard time - 10 items, but it looks like I'll have gotten something out of this holiday sale after all. Still prefer the summer sale, though.

Yeah I don't buy games for the achievements, I had a friend who played Aaaaa and liked it so I thought I would try it (and we have very similar tastes). I decided to bite on the whole complete pack, since it was 75%.

People who want to trade should (aside from taking it to the trade thread) just sit in the CAG Steam group chat lobby and wait there. It's a private group so (ideally) no phishers to bug you. I will probably be there late for people who want to get the achievement.

Did the Defense Grid achievement and scored coal for my trouble. Sigh. Still need to trade some coal.

EDIT: Hey, could someone please invite me to the CAG group. Thanks.

EDIT 2: Taken care of. Got another coal. I've gotten more from the initial "check your inventory" thing than any others. Oh well.

So my girlfriend got Nuclear Dawn as a gift, and she gifted it to me. I declined the gift because I wasn't sure if it would add to my library or not (I wanted to keep it in my inventory), so she tried to send it to me again. But this time, sending it didn't work. So we tried sending it again, and again, and even tried the option that said "return gift to inventory," and tried to send it again, but now it gives an error saying the gift no longer exists or has already been redeemed. :(

Bought Frozen Synapse and E.Y.E. Devine Cybermancy. I like them so far.

On a side note I actually messed up and snagged two separate copies of Frozen Synapse so I have two spare copies on hand (wouldn't mind maybe a trade for one of the other games on sale if possible)

E.Y.E. isn't bad at all. Involves a bit of reading, but for the asking price I feel like it was a good purchase.

so after trading with my brother, so we can both get today's "achievement," we both got coal. Then I had 7 coal and then combined them into *drum roll*

50% nimbus ....... who wants to trade it for coal or a coupon?

and can I also get an invite to the CAG group? I would like to see if some members like to play Killing Floor.

Sorry, my steam username is: lupe121283
I can't really comment on the deals because I own pretty much everything I want. However, I think the summer event was really fun. I enjoyed earning tickets and then picking out exclusive prizes and DLC. Also every ticket was worth an entry into the drawing whether you used it to claim a prize or not. It was well done, and I bought a few games in that sale that I normally would not have just so I could use the "exclusive" prizes I got. That's the point, to encourage steam users to buy MORE games.

This promotion so far has not encouraged buying, if anything it deters it. People might want to save their coupons and sit out on a winter daily deal in hopes of combining their coupons with a normal daily deal at a later post-sale date.
I fully agree with that sentiment. I think the Summer Sale was a much better promotion. The exclusive prizes and DLC were a very nice touch, but, more importantly, the ticket setup truly encouraged people to try new things. I feel this sale is really only encouraging hoarding (and ppl dicking over the Humble Bundle developers to get cheap achievements).

This "Games for Coal" thing is NUTS! I spent the night tonight playing the games I already owned for prizes and got 6 coal. Turned that 6 coal into E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy through trading. Free game for playing games?

I

Add 50% off Psychonauts coupon to my Inventory.
Worth noting - I already own this game on CD disc from retail box...

EDIT:
All that I got in my Inventory:
50% off Psychonauts coupon;
50% off Hacker Evolution: Untold coupon to my Inventory.
33% off Valve coupon;
1 piece of Coal;
HL1: Ep 1 [from buying Orange Box years ago, when I already owned HL1: Ep 1].

The only good Dejobaan game is AAAaaaah. 1 2 3 Kickit has been "in development" for about 4 years and is still a crappy beta

On the fence about getting E.Y.E. I love FPS, RPG combos...but it's getting some bad reviews. I'm not expecting Deus Ex or anything but is there some type of story at all? Or is it just like a pseudo MMO...like go here, kill all these people and then report back. Rinse repeat? $2.49 though so I might just get it regardless if the FPS portion is good.

Can I please get an invite for the CAG group? Also, could someone help me with the trading thing achievement? I have two coals and one 33% off a Valve item (including the complete pack).

My id is HenryRequiem

Thanks!

The FPS graphics are kind of janky, the aiming is less than perfect, but the RPG elements are cool. For $2.50 and the chance to win something however, you can't really go wrong. It's moderately entertaining.

I come home from a family gathering after the inventory not working earlier to find that I have Assassins Creed Revelations for free, f yes. (Also have a 50% off Valve coupon but own most of their stuff)

I got 2 coal and a 50% off valve game and still need the chieve if anyone wants to do a quick trade. I also wouldn't mind an invite to the CAG steam group.

PM me if interested.

I'm surprised so many people are adding each other for quick trades. I would assume everyone would have at least on friend on steam, and all it takes is a quick trade.

I would love an invite to the CAG steam group as well. "psn_kanmekaz". My wifes fault for not linking it to the PCs account sigh...

Need some opinions CAG. Is Rage worth $15? I've read both good and bad things about it. I've also read some people saying its 8 hours long and some saying its 15+. So any opinions on it? Is it a good deal or should I save my money? Also does it have any technical problems (I think I recall hearing it did when it launched)

I've only played and finished the Xbox version but at $10-$15, I'd say it's a good deal. At $60, it was a huge disappointment. People who said they finished it in 8 hours probably rushed through it although maybe it's a lot easier on PC because of the M&KB. It took me about 15-20 hours to do absolutely everything. That includes side quests, job boards, and races. I can't speak for the PC version's technical issues, though or if the requirements are are steep but the Xbox version looked stunning compared to other 360 games.

Come in expecting a solid corridor FPS with a little bit of RPG and almost no story at all. Oh, and the ending will disappoint you.
