Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

I'm waiting for the same thing, will buy the GOTY for $10 or less.

I played Jamestown for about an hour to get the achievement and I was so impressed with the game that I immediately bought the DLC.

I got my first non-coal gift, too: Fate of the World.

I'd actually like to know that, as well. I'm not sold on Conviction, but Chaos Theory sounds like the best choice.

I'm not completely sold on Hard Reset, either. Any thoughts on that one?

Absolutely get Conviction. It's like if they made 24 into a video game, with equally-awesome pacing. It's gorgeous and controls incredibly well, with well-constructed levels and very solid gameplay. While I was playing it, every second I had free I wanted to play it more. I'd squeeze it in between classes, I'd play it while pasta boiled, it was great.

Has anyone tried gifting a single copy (not a copy from a four pack) of renegade ops to themselves?

Does it come with the DLC or is the DLC only included in the giftable copies from the four pack?

I believe Hard Reset has a demo. I was interested in the game when it was announced but I thought it was pretty horrible.
Conviction might be a good action game, but it is not a splinter cell game. I think Chaos Theory is the high point in that series.

?

People seem to be buying the four pack of renegade ops and gifting one of the three giftable copies to themselves in order to get the DLC (for less than the base game + DLC price).

I was wondering if you purchase a single copy of the game as a gift if the DLC was included as it is in the three giftable copies in the four pack.

I'd rather pay $5.09 than $10.19 for the game plus DLC. I'm also curious if the DLC being included is a "bug" with the four pack or gift copies in general.

Oh sorry Misunderstood , I have no Idea.

Hard Reset is one beautiful looking game, I just did the objective for it which was real easy by the way and got another piece of coal, I'm up to 4 pieces now

Hard Reset for $5, yes! Also tempted by Wings of Prey, every time its been on sale I've almost gotten it. The fact that it has a holiday achievement might be enough to push me over the edge and get it this time.

Also did the and yet it moves and jamestown achievements for more coal, yay. Certainly not going to do something stupid and craft it again.

Which is the best platform for Plants vs Zombies? Steam vs Xbox vs Ipad? I never played it before, but I just tried the Steam demo today for a few mins and it was pretty fun.

Took about 20 minutes to get the cheezemint for that F2P Crimecraft game. Had to play two matches after downloading 10GB. What an awful game... and why in the world did they map snowballs to F1? My hand hurts now.

Then why didn't you just rebind that ability key to your mouse? Made it much more bearable.

Since you can't use normal weapons in that mode anyway, I mapped the snowball slot to the left mouse button and mapped the fire button to the F key. It was still crap, mind you, but it made playing the game a lot easier.
Oh, you can rebind the snowball? Well, whatever, I never have to play it again.
Unless it's in the Summer Sale. But I doubt they would put such a horrible game back.

After playing PvZ on a tablet, it really feels silly to play it on anything else.

Damn I wish Hard Reset was out in more gifts. Wish I could get it but I don't want to pay for it.

Wings of Prey is a port of the console version of IL2 - Birds of Prey. Glad to see there's no DRM on it any more, at least as Steam reports it. It fits somewhere uncomfortably between arcadey Ace Combat and simmy real IL2, never quite deciding which one it wants to be. It's got practically no good presentation but if you want a dry WW2 flight sim you could do worse.

As far as the Tom Clancy Collection goes, Splinter Cell Chaos Theory is simply one of the greatest games of all time. It's a dynamite stealth game.

Splinter Cell Conviction is really good as well. It's less rigidly stealth and more 24-ish or Bourne-ish and the campaign level design is all over the place but it's pretty dang good. The co-op campaign is absolutely fantastic though. If you can talk a buddy into playing it with you, it's totally worth it. You can also do one-off random guard placement missions in the co-op maps either by yourself or in co-op. The DLC is just more maps for that mode but they are AMAZING maps. I highly recommend Conviction and the DLC if you can enjoy it. Do note, though, that this has all the design philosophies of a console game in menus and action binding and even on consoles the context-sensitive movement is a bit fidgety. I also don't think they have text chat in co-op nor a particularly sexy voice comm overlay for co-op so you'll have to make do with what you have.

Tom Clancy's HAWX is basically Ace Combat. Almost completely. HAWX1 is great and no DRM, but the campaign mission quality is, again, all over the place. There are loads of tepid missions and a few real standout missions. I have a lot of love for it even though, yes, it's probably not quite as polished as your Ace Combats, it's fun.

HAWX2 makes me puke. They took the campaign of HAWX1 and padded it out with a bunch of stupid minigames (Oh boy another UAV/gunship mission.) . None of the good missions they try come close to the quality of, say, Rio or Japan from HAWX1. Also UbiDRM. The only good thing it adds is a survival mode which HAWX1 really needed.

Rainbow Six Vegas is pretty actiony, it's an inbred child of CoD and the old R6 games. Linear, no planning, but very high lethality shooting. It's not a sim but it does not cut you any slack. I liked them both but never felt like playing to completion.

Prototype should be cheaper and is a crummy console port. And Jamestown is great.
At least you got the acheivement , I cant even load the game.
Just in case, there's a solution posted on their forums. I couldn't load the game, either and apparently you have to manually download the loader and replace them inside the steam folder.

I played the crap out of Rainbow Six: Vegas when it was just out on the 360. I'm not sure if it would be good now or on a PC. I also know nothing about the single player. I never played anything but multiplayer, but daggonit I played that thing for weeks.

did that. achievement still won't complete. :( played so many rounds of that. so sick of it. lol. had to make a second account and it finally completed.

Thanks for those reviews, dude. By the way, I noticed that Conviction doesn't have any DRM listing on the Steam page. Has the "Always Online" DRM been removed?

LOL I load up EYE to go for the achievement. Kill the first NPC I see, which happened to be a friendly and bam, got the achievement. A whole 20 seconds of my time. Too bad it only got me a coal. :(

Just wasted an hour of my life getting the And Yet it Moves achievement. At least I got coal instead of a worthless coupon...up to 6 now. I think I'm going to hold onto my coal after reading some of these crafting horror stories.

Personally, I wanted to craft 10 coal, but, with all these useless coupons, I question the decision to even pursue any of these Objectives.

Value even gave me a 50% off Duke Nukem Forever coupon somewhere along the way. Quite the slap in the face after I paid $40 for the PC version at launch only to see it drop to $25 and then $5 at the 7th-month mark. Not funny, Valve.

Maybe a little humorous.

If I may quote my own post, I noticed, in tiny black lettering at the bottom of the Conviction page, "HIGH SPEED INTERNET ACCESS AND CREATION OF A UBISOFT ACCOUNT ARE REQUIRED[.]" Not having that warning under the "Game Details" section is shady, to say the least.

Looks like I'll be passing on Conviction.

Yes, they removed it after the fact. I think the Ubiloader for it will update and remove the always online DRM at your first launch of it.

They haven't dropped the Online DRM for all games yet, though, so don't expect Ubimiracles

This x1000. Survival mode can be a little sluggish on a first-gen iPad, but I wouldn't play PvZ any other way.

(Besides, if I bought it today, that would make it the third time I've done so...)

Owning PvZ on all of the platforms in question I'd add one caveat; if you care about co-op at all then the console versions are the way to go.
