Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Are these DotA 2 gifts I see everywhere just beta entries or a paid-off pre-order for the full game?
Just a beta entry, but people are paying $20 - $30 for them on the steam trading forums.

sigh, Steam isn't accepting my visa/amex/paypal payments for the past 2 hours ("There seems to have been an error initializing or updating your transaction. Please wait a minute and try again or contact support for assistance."), and I can no longer stay awake. I sent an email to support but by the time they reply, the sale price would be over...can't believe I'll be missing my deals due technical difficulties because I know for a fact that my card works...

this is what I get for not keeping some funds in the Steam wallet I guess...

anyone here have similar experience before? I'm wondering if they'll honor the price after the sale ends

If you're in a different country, for example, they just don't run your transaction, and tell you it failed.

Try this link:

They won't.

This happens often if I buy a lot of Steam games in a short period of time.

This happens to me nearly every single sale, it'll stop working for a few hours because I've made several purchases in short period of time. I've also noticed that it happened (though has probably changed with the introduction of the inventory system) when I bought a lot of gifts, rather than applying the games to my account.

It'll usually clear itself up, or you can sometimes get around it with paypal.
Cool thanks everyone. Seems like a touch interface would be nice for this game. The Ipad version now appears to have most (or all?) of the mini games + Zen Garden that the PC version has, right? I will probably watch for a sale on the Ipad version then.
I don't know if it's been updated since I bought it, but the iPad version does not have the Zen Garden, and is also missing the Puzzle/Endless modes for Vase Breaker and I, Zombie (though it does have an exclusive minigame called Buttered Popcorn).
I'm interested in picking up Dawn Of War Platinum Edition while it's on sale. According to steamprices.com though, it's significantly cheaper for those paying in Euros. In fact, steamprices currently has it listed as the top rip-off (game with the largest disparity in price between regions). It's $14.99 here in the US, but people paying in Euros only have to pay 4.99 (which comes out to $6.52 in US currency).

So I was thinking about asking over on the steam group buy thread if somebody in Europe could gift it to me. I've never asked somebody out of my region to pick up a game for me, so I have two questions that hopefully somebody here can help me with.

1) If I send my payment to the guy buying it for me via paypal, do I just need to send the $6.52 and paypal will convert it into Euros for him? That is to say, I don't need to convert it somehow before sending it, do I? Or if paypal handles it, there isn't any extra charge for paypal converting it, is there?

2) Any problems with using a game bought in a different region? This is an older game, so probably not in this case. But generally speaking, are there ever any problems with games not working when not being played in the region that it was bought in?
Hey! I am from The Netherlands so I can fix that for you if you want.

All you have to do is send 5 euro's as a gift via paypal. You can set the valuta you wish to pay in, so you can pay in euros. It will convert automatically and pull the amount in dollars from your account. I will then buy the game as a gift and send it to your email/steam acct.

I've bought a few games via american friends and some CAG's here myself. That has saved me quite a bit of cash. Dead Island, Rage, Terraria, Frozen Synapse... I never had any problems with the regional difference. The only thing I saw was that it clearly said "North American edition" or something for Dead Island. But I saw nothing noteworthily different in the gameplay. As long as nothing has been edited in a different region (censuring sometimes happens, but it is very uncommon) you should be fine.

Just send me a PM if you want me to fix that game for you. CAG's helped me. About time I returned the favor.

You might want to wait for it to appear in a daily though. Might have a Dawn of War franchise sale or something.

Ooh, I'd love to get in on this as well.

Also, anyone expecting a recap day today? My thinking is that they've previously done one each week, so today would be a good day to do it. Also, both Costume Quest and Psychonauts have achievements left for the winter holiday, and both are specifically Christmas day related, so I figure that's as good a chance as any that we'll see them back up today. Since they've already been on sale, that would indicate a repeat day.

Or, it could just be my wishful thinking.

*sigh* Still not sure if I want to bit on Hard Reset or not.

No, I think you could be right.

Cave Story has a Christmas day achievement too.
Just did the EDGE achievement (nice game, BTW) and got..... 10% off Atari..... 10%!!!!
None of the coupons make any sense. Unless they give you 90% off or something, the game will already be cheaper during the holiday sale than it would be with the coupon.

These coupons will have some value after the sale at the Stream trading forums, for people who missed the holiday sale. Expert CAGers will have no use for them.

Even then, 10% off is a joke.
My 50% off Serious Sam: The Second Encounter HD is oddly specific. Was there demand for a coupon like that?
IMO that coupon is completely useless.. the double pack (containing Serious Sam HD first and second encounter) was on sale recently for $2.99.

They should really implement a more forgiving system. Crafting 7 coal into a 10% off coupon is just pathetic. They should guarantee you something good when you craft.

I got some 50% off coupons(Valve, Nordic Games, Worms Reloaded) and a bunch of coal so far(I've been bad, apparently).

I'm hoping Half Life 3 comes out before the coupon expires.

(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
Traded in my 7 coal for a... 10% coupon. Awesome.
Ouch. Hopefully it wasn't a complete middle finger with something like 10% off Farming Simulator.

With the exception of the seemingly rare 50% off Skyrim/Bethesda coupon, it seems that the majority of these coupons are trash. The flip side of course is that our chances of actually winning the giveaway are infinitesimal, making coal almost as worthless.

Keep the coal for a minuscule chance of winning or craft the coal for a pathetic coupon. Lose-lose unless you get really lucky. Honestly, you probably have a better chance of getting something good by doing the achievements.

The valve coupon I have says it excludes games that come out after 01/02/12 so yea even if by some miracle HL3 did come out soon into 2012 the coupon ain't going to help.
Ouch. Hopefully it wasn't a complete middle finger with something like 10% off Farming Simulator.
10% off a Telltale Game. Not helpful.

Man, the Steam trading thread is just FLOODED with posts. I made a post trying to get rid of my 13 coal and less than minute later it was on page 3. I've bumped it 4 times and have no offers yet. I'm thinking it's more trouble than it's worth if I have to sit here and bump my thread every 2 minutes if I want people to see it.

Anyway, really want to get Hard Reset, but am having second thoughts since they haven't announced if the extended edition content will be free or paid DLC. I don't want to end up spending another $5 later for 2 more hours of content.

I won the valve complete pack earlier and am dying to know what EXACTLY Ill get if I own 90% of it already. It seems JUST halflife and eps. Which is just worthless. If thats the case Id trade it for a friggin 50% activision or bethseda coupon.

I cant believe Im this annoyed at winning the valve complete pack for free, haha.

I'd feel the same way!
Any verdict on Company of Heroes? Seems to have a killer metascore, but it seems almost too good.
It's a really good game(s) if you're into RTS games, and it totally deserves that score.
About the price, there was a day like two months ago or so when they had the same offer, if you didn't get it back then now is your chance.

I'm not being really helpful with my comment, but what can I say, I really like the game and it's very well done if you like RTS games focused more on tactical experience.

You can check video reviews to get more insight about the game, here is one:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYlxV4JgCgs

Oh, and as always, with most of those "packs" most of the time, they are cheaper if you buy them individually, but this one is only about 0.01 cent cheaper...
Any verdict on Company of Heroes? Seems to have a killer metascore, but it seems almost too good.
I consider it one of the best RTS games that came out within the last 5-6 years. It's very strategic and tactical but it's not hardcore at it like other RTS games like say... Men of War. For a game that came out in 2006, I still think it looks better than a lot of RTS games out now. The amount of details in the game is amazing.

The video above isn't exactly actual gameplay, but it shows off the stuff you'll see in the game running in realtime on the engine.

New deals are up, mostly older items but a few newer ones.

I think it will be Killing Floor dlc for me, maybe demolition Inc and Fallout 3 Goty
Alice and maybe Overlord 2 for me today. Does anybody know anything about nuclear dawn?
Not really, but I remember someone mentioning it's going to be included in a near future Indie Royale bundle based on a twitter post by their company so you may want to hold off.
Alice and maybe Overlord 2 for me today. Does anybody know anything about nuclear dawn?
It looks cool and I've heard mostly positive things but it is all but certainly going to be part of an indie royale bundle. The dev tweeted it and said to stay tuned last week.

Also if anyone wants Football Manager 2012, I have a code for it I don't want. I can beat Steam's price.
Didn't, expect such support for Company of Heroes. Totally grabbing it. ^_^
I remember playing a bit of it when it first came out and totally loving it. And I'm not even the RTS type of gamer. Dang it, I think I just talked myself into getting it!

Nothing for me today, I think. I am pondering buying a gift copy of Nuclear Dawn just to give to a friend or someone else that I can convince to join me in the game. I bought the game for $11.99 during the free weekend. Normally, that would really upset me, but I really want to support this game, and I hope my extra cash helps them keep improving the game. Right now Nuclear Dawn and BF3 are my MP games of choice!
