Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

WOOHOO! Just completed my 48th achievement (Beat Hazard - enjoyed it, pretty tough) and won The Witcher 2! Add that to Costume Quest from my 47th (Rock of Ages) and today was a total win for me.

I have been pleasantly surprised by a lot of the achievement games. Some of them I plan to play a lot more, some I may never get back to, and some I have already uninstalled and won't ever touch again.

So far of what I have played, I recommend:
Rock of Ages if you have been waiting for an update to Marble Madness with a whole bunch of wacky stuff going on.
Jamestown, which you can still get in the Humble Bundle for 23 more hours.
If you like tower defense, Defense Grid is superb, and if you like city-building at all, I blew 5 hours in Tropico 4 like it was nothing.

I would say avoid Wings of Prey unless you really like flying games.

And Cargo and Anomaly were total surprises for me. I really liked getting the achievements in them and I plan to go back and play more of both of them.

I love what a workout my backlog gets in these events. This one is still going and I can't wait for the summer sale!

Thanks for the replies on Spiral Knights, I was going to not cheat on Psychonauts but I decided to do a savegame for the achievement. I would never get to it any other way this week without it.

Got coal for that which is alright by me.

So, on the topic of DOTA 2, I got in on the beta earlier this month and gave one of my gift betas to a friend, but still have my second gift beta. That has value? And if so, where should I go to get something decent for it?

Are you sometimes glad that you don't own a game so that you don't have to do the winter achievement but then get mad when you realize that you actually own the game. I just had that with Fate of the World right now.

Now I have to download it and then try the achievement. I am just using the save file and just get it over with. Until tomorrow......

I sold my copy using a broker since I didn't care to deal with it for about $15 and he got the beta for Counter-Strike: Global Offence. We were both happy.

EDIT:

I got 50% Amnesia. *smacks Valve* I already own the damn game you jack hole.

Steam trading forums are your best shot.
Anyone have any opinions on greed corp and Demolition inc?
Demolition Inc is a fun little puzzler. I think it's worth 2.50. Give the demo a try.
Anyone have any opinions on greed corp and Demolition inc?
I like them both quite a lot, but I have only played 4 or 5 levels of Demolition, Inc.

I have a proposition for all my CAGly friends. I have the following, and am willing to trade one or multiple for Bastion. Here's what I have:

1) Half-Life 2
2) 33% off Valve
3) 75% off Risen
4) 50% off Duke Nukem Forever
5) 4 Pieces of Coal

Anyone interested? PM me or befriend me with the Steam info in my signature.

Again, and now less politely, use the goddamned trade thread for this. It's in the OP.
How long is Bastion?
I hate buying a game and only getting 3-4 hours out of it.
If you only last a single playthrough, and you're good at these type of games, it might only take you as short as that. If you want to level up, max out your weapons, and get all the achievements (not so much grindy as tough) it could take you 3 or 4 times that long.

Stop posting your trading shit here. There are two trading threads for Steam already. Go to the appropriate topic.
Would you say it's worth it to do that achievement? I'm not sure if I want to waste my time with it.
The game is awesome, I have over 22 hours logged on it

The Steam sale has been a lot of fun so far with all the trading going on in the forums. I ended up with Bastion and 12 coal today after some trading around. Finally got Two Worlds 2, which I have always had trouble biting on even though I really want it.

I was going to keep Bastion, but I'll wait until 75% and just buy it sometime.
Bastion is so worth it at that price. Surprise of the year for me.
Oh? The inordinate amounts of praise it garners from critics and gamers alike on various forms of media wasn't hint enough that it might be a good game?

Did the Spacechem achievement. Spacechem is an interesting and fun game but it's a thinking mans game (which means I cheated by looking at solutions because I didn't want to actually spend hours going through all of it ). So if your not into spending a lot of time, thinking and tinkering around to get the right solution, do not bother with it. It's a hard game.

Ended up trading my DOTA 2 for Bulletstorm and Worms Reloaded. Probably could have done better, but I got it for free and it paid for the games I wanted from the sale today, so I'm happy.
Kinda want Rock of Ages but I'm afraid it's going to be in an Indie Bundle soon so I'm torn.
I'm going to buy it because I love Zeno Clash so much (it's made by the same guys) and it looks funny.

The satisfaction you get when solving a puzzle is immense, though. It earns its difficulty.

I totally agree. I used a guide for the Summer Achievement for SpaceChem, but this time around just played the game normally to get the Winter one. The game hurt my brain a little and ticked me off some at the beginning, but once I got the hang of it it was really satisfying when I could get through a level at a decent pace.

It's been a week and the servers are still messed up for the client. I can't buy anything without just going to the website and that still takes a few attempts for the purchase to go through, which is ridiculous this far into the sale.

This is why I traded L4D for SpaceChem. I like meaty puzzle games like this.
I might hit up the Spiral Knights achievement tonight, depending on how long it takes do download, quick question. How does one achieve crowns and what do I need 200 for?

Thanks
If you need crowns still, add me on Steam and I'll give you the 112 I have.

EDIT: Forgot to mention I crafted 14 coal today. My prizes? 50% off Poker Night at the Armory (a game I'll never play since I'm not a poker fan) and 66% off Two Worlds II (a game I know nothing about). Eh.

I just read somewhere that by creating an account for Amazon with a fake US address, it would let buy get the downloadable games on the website.

Anyone knows where can I check for those games which can be activated on Steam? Only interested on those that can be activated on Steam.

I remember seeing Dungeon Defenders a few days ago, don't know if the deal is still up, now there is the Sonic one which is cheaper than the one on Steam.

that's weird. i never had a problem on the website.

I think my first playthrough was 6-7 hours, but I wanted to see both endings, so I ended up giving it another playthrough (which also helped me unlock more achievements). I worked on unlocking every achievement in the game (still haven't done Score Attack mode), and have put in 16 very enjoyable hours. I'll probably put even more time in to get the last achievement, but I decided to take a break to play something else.
I have literally been just download ALL DAMN DAY. I'm hitting like 50kb/s what is the deal today?
It looks like I'm not the only one having issues with download speeds on Steam. I came here to see if anybody else was having problems. I'm only getting about 15kb/s - 20kb/s peak.
Kinda want Rock of Ages but I'm afraid it's going to be in an Indie Bundle soon so I'm torn.
Rock of Ages is published by Atlus. Generally indie games published by major companies do not participate in the bundle scene, the only exception being Shank. Every single other title has been self published.

Depends on the game. The free to play games seem slower than anything else.
I have literally been just download ALL DAMN DAY. I'm hitting like 50kb/s what is the deal today?
So it's not just me! I was thinking my internet was wonky. I've been downloading steady around 80kb/s, but every now and then I'll hit 150-180. Still annoying and way lower than my regular speed.

I haven't tried in a long time, but you used to be able to change your location to another country and get connected to their servers which may be better.

I won my first game Sanctum
Then I won my second game, Stalker Call of Pipyat

Now that would be be awesome UNLESS I already own them which I do.

Now I'm all up for encouraging trading in the community but I just wish that when it came to games and coupons we got games and coupons for stuff we didn't already own. I hate knowing that I'm forced to trade away doubles instead of getting a game or coupon on something I don't have, debate about keeping it, and then deciding to trade it.

I just don't like the forced hand thing, would it have been so difficult for them to see what games we already had (maybe even scan our wishlists) and then give out the stuff based on that?

Have Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter(Giftable Copy), 7 Coal, 50% Off Amnesia and a Killing Floor Guest Pass for trade! Looking for Game(s) and Coal. Post your offers below or message me, NO COUPONS!

There's threads set up for trading, take it there
We don't care

Yay, spiral knights cheevo got. More coal for the fire. Now to download Rise of Immortals.

At first I wasn't going to care about Rise of Immortals but I won 2 games, and crafted one game and the orange box so yeah now I am addicted

I crafted 7 coal and literally won this game.

Edit: First to PM me gets this game gifted for free
