Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Does anyone have any info on how bad the odds are for crafting? I've crafted once and it ended badly, but I'm getting tired of begging for trades with my coal.
Well I finally won a game. Super Meat Boy! But I already own it :(

Do you think they could purposely be giving people games they already have to encourage trading?
I'll add to this conspiracy theory by revealing that I, too, won a game I already own: Fate of the World.

I think most people on cag on a ton of games on steam -- especially the cheaper ones that they are giving away -- so the people that post on here are likely to win games they already own. That being said, I won a game I own (portal 2) and a game I didn't own (wonderful end of the world) so, uh anecdotal evidence!
Glad to see such love for Jamestown.

Jamestown has me considering Gundemonium. Is that as fun as Jamestowne or is it more hardcore brutal?
Jamestown is hilarious, but it's also a tough bullet hell shooter on any of the higher difficulties. I think the same goes for Gundemonium. It all depends on how much you enjoy shouting "FUUUUUUU~!"
I hate shmups, but Jamestown is wonderful. :D
I was pleasantly surprised myself. Sadly, I have some issue with horrible lag if too many things are on the screen (or if Guy Fawkes' ship charges for some reason). Someone on the forums suggested it had to do with dual core processing, but that's turned off for the game, so I have no clue what the problem is. It's not like it's that graphically intensive of a game that I should be having this issue. Sucks, because I want to play it more, but it becomes nearly impossible on any of the higher difficulties.

That actually might be decent to trade for if the Humble Bundle didn't completely devalue it. Honestly indie games pretty much aren't worth a damn right now because most major ones have either been in a Humble or Royale Bundle or people assume they will be in one at some point in the future.

Oh and FWIW I mostly got crap coupons but I did win 2 games Basketball Manager 2010 and Left4Dead, neither of which I owned. And yes I realize I am probably one of two people on Earth who didn't own Left4Dead.

Luckily, I didn't have any trouble with the Charge ship (unless that's not the Guy Fawke's ship? -- is that the DLC ship?). The game seems really fun on Normal, but the difficulty certainly ramps on higher modes. I'm trying to unlock more stages, but I think I'll take a break for the evening now that I got the winter achievement.

It was coal, but the game was so fun that it was worth it.
There is a Savefile for Binding of Issac that works.

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2398585

All you do is copy the savefile, boot up Binding of Issac and done (it unlocks about 77% of the achievements though).

Won a copy of Osmos which I already own so that is going on my trade pile.
that def works....my achievements just went nuts....whoever made that save file did a boat load of achivements

I won Dota2 for doing the Rock of Ages achievement, posted it in the Steam trading forum, but due to the "no bumping" rule, it immediately got swallowed up into the void. Sucks, because I think I probably could have gotten some pretty decent for it.

And lol at people who try to offer games that are worth LESS than the game they're trying to get.

So they are giving away Beta keys for DOTA2 as a 'prize'? I assume once it goes to final release the beta version will no longer work and you'll need to buy it? If so, some prize.

I have a feeling that the game will be F2P. ;D

Dammit, I just realized I never got around to buying SPAZ. It was in my cart and I've been busy all day to remember to get there during the sale lapse.

Most people think it will be F2P.

I'm not sure what it is, it's one of those that says "Hardware Survey."
Can anyone say if the Jamestown Gunpower, Treason, and Plot DLC is worth it? Just seems to be three (or four?) new ships.
Obviously there's nothing more important in Jamestown than ships, so this DLC isn't something extraneous like horse armor.

Also, I got it when it was 75 cents but now it's $1.50 so you have to consider that.

Xotic is the only thing for me today. Tried Wasteland Angel's demo but the controls feel clumsy compared to Renegade Ops' dual-stick mechanics.

Then it's still a rip off prize. Like getting TF2 for a prize. Come to think of it, I seem to recall someone claiming he did get TF2 as a prize but I think he was joking. Uh, I hope.

At any rate, I feel like this promotion is more coal than anything else, and I ain't talkin raffle tickets. :p

How about I just give you $100, you keep And Yet It Moves and we call it even ;)

The hardware survey is the thing you take to enter for a chance to be in dota beta. Everyone who signs up for the beta gets and does the hardware survey. Not everyone gets in. Or at least not right away. Hardware Survey value is beyond low. Worthless actually, not to be rude. Just letting ya know.

There wouldn't happen to be anyone who has a copy of SPAZ, would there? And is willing to sell it to me for yesterday's sale price?

Ah, well that I didn't know. Thanks for the tip!

Finally played Sanctum after getting it in a bundle a while ago and I must say I really enjoy it. I'm not a big fan of tower defense games, but I really enjoyed this. I can see myself playing this a lot in the future...

Rock of Ages got me coal. I liked the Summer Camp promo more. At least I felt I was working towards something.

Thanks for the info. I'll think about it.

Tempted on Shogun too, but I will wait for a GOTY edition. I'll settle for Rome and Medieval II instead, since I haven't played a Total War game before, and I've read those two are the best older ones.

So I guess we have two more days of deals and likely a final recap day. Thank goodness this sale is almost over. These achievements are more crap than reward, and I'll be happy having less spending temptations.

Maybe I'd feel differently if I won a game by the end of the promo and not stupid coal.
Ah, well that I didn't know. Thanks for the tip!
Apparently the hardware survey thing you can win ends up as dota 2 beta on the account its redeemed on + 2 gifts of it to send if I remember correctly, which would make it what you get from being chosen after completing the hardware survey.
Dammit, I just realized I never got around to buying SPAZ. It was in my cart and I've been busy all day to remember to get there during the sale lapse.
Give the demo for starscape a try, seems to be somewhat similar if smaller scale and more arcady.

Been out of town all week (went to Orlando for Christmas... let me tell you guys, never visit the Disney parks this time of year... it's the busiest time of the year for them! The Harry Potter attractions, while awesome, were CRAZY crowded... sometimes I was standing literally shoulder-to-shoulder with hundreds of people, barely able to move).

Anyway... looking forward to catching up on achievements. I was able to grab Bastion, Rock of Ages, and Edge using my phone so I'm downloading these now.

That Revenge of the Titans one looks hard as hell though... I have the game, but I'm not too interested in it generally... it was in one of these indie bundles I got. Might have to do a search for a save file for that one at least...

So what are people hoping will be a daily before the end? Only thing I have left on my must buy before end of sale list is Rochard + Soundtrack.
I hate shmups, but Jamestown is wonderful. :D
That's how I always try to recommend it. It's an EXCELLENT shump for people who aren't usually into shumps. The difficulty curve is magnificent.

Technically, it's not as amazing as your doodoopatchos or whatever else they call them but it's damn fun.

And, yeah, the DLC is just three extra ships. All of them decent. The fourth extra ship is just a random of the others.
So what are people hoping will be a daily before the end? Only thing I have left on my must buy before end of sale list is Rochard + Soundtrack.
Good taste. Rochard is great.

I've wheeled and dealed all the stuff I want. I'll probably buy Lost Planet 1 and Judge Dredd. Maybe Sniper Ghost Warrior and SSF4AE but I'm loaded with good stuff.
So what are people hoping will be a daily before the end? Only thing I have left on my must buy before end of sale list is Rochard + Soundtrack.
I've gotten pretty much everything I wanted. Wallace and Gromit at more than 33% discount would be nice, but I can easily wait on that. It likes to go on sale, iirc.

Edit: Yeah, apparently it was $6.80 a month ago. I can easily wait.

That BoI save file got deleted fast. Does anyone have a copy NOT hosted on Steam and instructions to boot? I'd like to have it because, heaven forbid, if I play this awful little fly/Monstro-killing repetition sim again, I'd like to have a more mutable save file.

BoI will autoload Steem cheevos every time it starts, under the assumption that it has been played without Steem or something similar, so every time you start it will try to unlock all cheevos you own. This is why the save file works.

I'd like to see Resident Evil 5 at 75% off.

Good luck with that. Capcom doesn't know how to put a game less than 50% off on Steam.
Glad to see such love for Jamestown.

Jamestown has me considering Gundemonium. Is that as fun as Jamestown or is it more hardcore brutal?
Probably a bit more hardcore brutal at least on the higher difficulties.
the first two are horizontal unlike Jamestown so there is that difference.
I do so love Hitogata Happa's(the vertical one) doll system though probably due to me not being particularly good at it though.
But just noticed all 3 of them have demos so can give them a try.

Or you could get it for $9.99 right now off of Telltale's site. You also get the DVD with it, I can't remember what exactly is on the dvd though.

Anyone know of any Ubisoft coupons greater than 10%?

I'm wanting to get rid of my coal for a good coupon.

I have terribad skills with crafting... got 50% off of Virtual Tennis 4... WTF :whistle2:#

But just noticed all 3 of them have demos so can give them a try.
Thanks for the info. I think Jamestown just hits some magical sweet spot with me. I'll likely not enjoy anything else to this extent. If the Gundemonium collection goes to 75% off, I'll think about it. Just not that interested, really.
Or you could get it for $9.99 right now off of Telltale's site. You also get the DVD with it, I can't remember what exactly is on the dvd though.
Great deal, but I'm really partial to having all my PC games on Steam, if I can. I've got plenty of adventure games to last, anyhow.

This is the link that was posted in the thread you're referencing.

Place the .txt file in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\the binding of isaac

Be warned for people that didn't read the original thread, this save file will unlock 77% of the achievements in the game, so if you were planning on trying to get them legitimately this save file might give you some problems. ;D

I actually got a decent coupon. One that makes a bit of sense anyway. 75% off Risen. It was a Daily deal a couple days ago at 50% off.
So they are giving away Beta keys for DOTA2 as a 'prize'? I assume once it goes to final release the beta version will no longer work and you'll need to buy it? If so, some prize.
Except that DotA2 Beta Keys have been selling online for around $50, so it's almost as good as getting any game on Steam.
