Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Which retail CD Keys are accepted on Steam?

Place the .txt file in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\the binding of isaac

Be warned for people that didn't read the original thread, this save file will unlock 77% of the achievements in the game, so if you were planning on trying to get them legitimately this save file might give you some problems. ;D
I'm willing to bet the 0's and 1's in that text file unlock the achievements. So if you could tell which position the achievement was in, you could just lock the rest up before loading the file. Not that anyone would waste time with that. ;)
Anyone know of any Ubisoft coupons greater than 10%?

I have terribad skills with crafting... got 50% off of Virtual Tennis 4... WTF :whistle2:#
I have an AC Brotherhood 50% off

Do you mean a publisher or just a Ubisoft game coupon? Because I've gotten a 50% AC Brotherhood coupon.

Does this unlock JUST the cheevos or does it unlock the game content? I'm okay with cheating for the game content because you'll lose it if your Flash cache empties and the whole appeal of the game is on the compound plays yielding more items.
After 9 coals did my L4D2 and got Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad. willing to trade.
Lucky bum. Been debating buying it over at GetGamesGo

Well hurr de durr. Why is this not synced to the Cloud? Can you actually LOSE a BoI savegame then? I just assumed it had the same problem as VVVVVV before the C rehost.

Crafted my coal and got a bunch of useless damned coupons. Willing to give them all for a trade to a good home. I'm interested in either coal or games.

-33% off valve
-60% off hearts of iron III
-50% off Trine (1)
-50% off Oddworld: Abe's Exoduss
-50% off the Witcher: Enhanced Edition

The saddest part is I own all the games these coupons are for, lol. IF anybody is feeling nice I'm willing to accept just about anything for these since they are 100% useless to me.

Steam ID: Negamask

Edit: And if anybody has a Dota 2 beta and thinks it's a crap prize, I'd be willing to give all my coupons for it, even if the game ends up being F2P. I had an old DOTA team (four of us) who've been playing for the last 7 years pretty much regular, and the three of them got in and I didn't. :/ Tragic, certainly.

I've actually been trying to reset mine...I wanted to play through and try to gain the items after I cheated for the cheevo. No luck yet...I actually found this...

http://www.destructoid.com/the-binding-of-isaac-update-delivers-improved-save-system-213704.phtml

Not sure if that means I can't do it anymore...or I'm just doing it wrong.

Interesting, but there IS a reset data option on the stats screen. Would that do it for you?

Maybe just delete the text files in the Steem directory for BoI?

Also, thanks for the Binding of Isaac save. I've actually done all those cheevos and more, but I did them all on my Mac side so I didn't get ANY of them. Very helpful, thank you.

Thanks for the Binding of Isaac save. I've played the game for like 6 hours so far and really like it, but never seem Krampus and was a bit pissed that I probably wouldn't get it simply because the achievement was poorly planned out.

Duh....deleting the save file in the game did the trick. I actually deleted the whole BoI directory that it created and it still saved my game.

I hope we get to keep telling people that there is a trading/steam gifting thread every page of this thread. It is fun!
Except that DotA2 Beta Keys have been selling online for around $50, so it's almost as good as getting any game on Steam.
I'd love to see Jade Empire hit a daily.

Decided to craft one more time, and got a game!

The First Templar - Steam Special Edition

Maybe not the greatest game, but better than a lot of the stuff I have gotten.

Nice. I would gladly trade (almost) any of my coupons for a game. I got lucky by winning two packs on the first day of the sale, but lately I've just been getting coupons and coal. :(

All this coal and the crap coupons have really left me feeling bittersweet about this year's promotion. If you could turn the coupons back into coal or like 1/2 the amount of coal that would be cool ... but the coupons are just so worthless.

Did the Xotic achievement. Took me all of 15 mins to do, well after the verifying the cache and then redownloading like 300 mb of data .

Achievement was easy but the game fucked up on install. For $2.50 Xotic is alright. It's basically an arcade game sort of shooter where your goal is to run around and shoot all the glowing targets and enemies around the level, and while it's no serious sam, it will be a decent hour or two down the line.

Has it ever been discounted in the history of Steam? I don't recall seeing it on sale.
There is a Savefile for Binding of Issac that works.

All you do is copy the savefile, boot up Binding of Issac and done (it unlocks about 77% of the achievements though).

Won a copy of Osmos which I already own so that is going on my trade pile.
I got the save file working but no achievements are coming through. Does anyone have any suggestions? Do I need to do anything once I'm in the game?

I've gotten Roboblitz (didn't own it so was happy about that) and Defense Grid (owned for long time and love) and just coal/coupons thus far :(

Jade Empire was in the winter sale 2 years ago for $3.75

I picked it up back then, but still havent gotten around to playing it

Has anyone had any luck trading coal for games? I know the "cluster" of a trading forum was mentioned. Most people don't seem to be wanting coal for games at this point.

I may craft 7 to see what I get, but the reports from you guys are scary. I do not want more coupons!

paulcalypse, you really have to be willing to check everywhere constantly. I have made some awesome trades, but I have been glued to the trade forums and have had to sift through a lot of bad offers to get a few worthwhile ones.
So what are people hoping will be a daily before the end? Only thing I have left on my must buy before end of sale list is Rochard + Soundtrack.
Resident Evil 5 75%
Bioshock 2 75%
Dead Rising 2 75%
GTA IV Complete Edition 75%
Star Wars The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes 75%
The Club 75%
Gears of War 50%

I know that last one isn't on steam but I want it to be DotW dammit!
Say whaaat? Selling online where? eBay? I could totally use $50.
Maybe a couple of months ago. As more and more keys are being released, the market value has dropped to $20-25 (still too much for a beta, imo). Check SteamTrades.com or the SteamPowered forums but expect wade through a ton of offers of coupons.

I've had success with trading coal for games or coal and games for games. It does take awhile to find that good offer/deal though.

That's a good call, I'd love play that game again.

Has there been any list yet of hidden gem games that aren't likely to be dailies? It was around this point in the sale last year that we started to see some suggestions.

I remember The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom was $.49 last year.

I've got quite a few things this year. This has been awesome! Also the gundemonium collection is on sale for $4.99. I haven't seen this advertised anywhere.

Just a ubisoft title... generic publisher coupon.

I'd like to craft coal but my last one is crap and I bet I'll get more crap.

thinking maybe the coal is a bit more better than a stupid coupon.

Quick question: Gamersgate has Deus Ex DLC for cheap, are they handing out Steam Keys for it? Interested in buying some.
any opinions on Red Orchestra 2? kind of interested (im a WW2 nut)
I'm on Tripwire's mailing list from my long-ago stint as a games writer and one day a key for RO2 showed up in my email. I plugged it into Steam, downloaded the game, fired it up and hated it. Graphically unimpressive and shipped with totally borked IFF so I got a couple of kills because people ran right past me because they didn't realize I was the enemy. I hear they've patched it up, but I'm not a fan of WWII games. I prefer more modern warfare style games with scopes and adaptable gun systems, not iron sites, etc. Personal taste.

I've said it before and I'm getting on my soapbox about it again: Steam needs to implement a means for users to sell or trade the games they've bought. Actually, "rented" is more accurate because if you can't sell something, you don't really own it. Finish a console game that you weren't stupid enough to download and you can trade it, lend it, sell it, make a coaster of it, whatever you want. What's the PC gaming equivalent? Exactly!

There is absolutely no technical reason why we shouldn't be able to dispose of our PC games. If I want to unload my destined to be unplayed copy of RO2 (or something I've paid for, if you're going to be picky), why can't I trade it for another game or sell it outright. All Steam needs to do is reassign key ABC12-EF3G5 for Game X from my account to someone else's. Then they have the game and I've got whatever I got in return. Hell, we can gift our extra copies of games we already have, so it's all the publishers blocking it and Steam not wanting to anger them lest they all start their own Origins and pull stuff off their storefront.
Yeah, the publishers wouldn't like that at all, which is why it would never happen.

I deal with it by not paying a lot for games, so therefore if I lose, I'm not out much.

It almost makes me angry getting the tough cheevos (I'm looking at you, AaaAAHAHhhh) when all I get is lousy coal. 19 coal! NINETEEN! And 4 stupid coupons:

-50% Valve
-50% Rockstar Games
-25% 2K Games
-50% The Witcher 1
-10% Deep Silver (Valve is taking the piss)

At least most of the games are fun, but still. 23 objectives and no games? Lame!
