Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

picked up the source multiplayer pack for only $7.49. Hopefully tomorrow they have some good games for recap like the mass effects because i missed out on those. ;(

I've done 5 achievements today, and got 1 coal, 3 Valve coupons (bringing my total on those to 6), and DoD: Source. I just....god dammit. I own every Valve game in existence and I have 6 coupons for their games.
Honestly, wish I could tell you - I came here to ask that exact same thing. I had played Minerva's Den on PS3 previously, hence my recommendation for the pack in general. But I was upgrading my Bioshock stuff to pc today. The pack downloads, but it keeps telling me it can't install. Tried both outside the game through the GFWL Marketplace app, and through the game itself - no go. Does anyone have any advice?
Damn, that's really disappointing. I'd like to pick it up, but I'm not computer savvy. So, if it's a difficult process to get it running, I'm going to pass.

i too received a pile of valve coupons for my troubles today :/ and, like everyone else, i own everything except for DoD: source. ah well, maybe it'll get a daily during the coupon window.

...unless of course one of you fine gents wants to give me one of your extra copies :)

Decided to craft my coal and got another coupon...

I really hope Valve has some mercy and puts these coupon games on sale during the window.

grrrrrr just did the last achievement I am able to get for this gift pile, just need 1 piece of coal so I can craft (already have 6) and what do I get? Another 50% off Valve coupon instead of the single piece of coal I needed/wanted

Crafted 7 coal, got another Valve coupon. On the plus side, though, I did trade that copy of Glow Fish for a copy of AvP. Also, a friend bought a 4-pack and gifted me a copy of Magicka. I can live with that. :D

All in all, I'm pretty pleased with the sale, considering I spent very little and came away with some free stuff, even if most of it is worthless.

lol i came here to say the same thing but i ended up with a 33% Valve coupon. Maybe i can win the steam lotto with my six entries and win every game, but with my luck ill just win more valve games.

Ended up spending less than $90 for the whole year on steam so i can live with that. On to the next sale i guess.

I just realized how bad it sounds to complain about winning free games...

Judging from the reviews, I'm going to skip L.A. Noire and just play the vanilla version on Xbox. It's supposedly doesn't look much better and "half-assed console port" is coming up over and over. Oh well. Here's to hoping my 14 coals win something in the raffle. Haven't bought a single thing all sale.

I know this is a long shot but I crafted half life and I already have it. If anyone wants to trade for it I'll take about any game I don't have. Make an offer. I'll most likely take it

With everyone saying they're only getting Valve coupons now, I decided to try my luck. Crafted 3 times for 3 Valve coupons. :( 21 coal down the drain.

But the Trine achievement earned me a copy of Day of Defeat: Source, and the Steam Guard achievement earned me Shattered Horizon, so I'm happy. :D And I was able to trade my excess games for 5 games on my wish list.

I still have a 50% off Bethesda coupon that's good for $30 off Skyrim, but I'm holding onto it for the right offer.
Has Gemini Rue been $5 this whole sale? I want to buy it, but I figured I might as well wait until tomorrow in hopes that is on sale.
I have a 50% coupon for Gemini Rue you can have. If you're not looking to play it right away it might hit a daily and you could stack the coupon saving you some change.

Wasn't that a bundle game?

Glad to see L.A. Noire for 75% off, willing to trade my copy of IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover for it. :D

Yeah, Gemini Rue was in one of the Indie Royale bundles.

Yeah it is a bundle game, but I don't feel like paying $20 when I only want 1 game which costs $5. Normally its $10 but its 50% off right now.
When I was doing research a few weeks ago, I read that you're supposed to start up the game in Steam, then look for the DLC in game through one of the menus. It should find that you own the DLC and download it.
I just finished Minerva's Den. What I did was launch the Games for Windows Live Marketplace, logged in with my Xbox ID, and searched for the DLC. I purchased it through the client and set it to download. Once it finished, I closed the Marketplace app and launched Bioshock 2 normally which logged me into Games for Windows Live with the same ID I used to buy the DLC. Then I chose Single Player and Downloaded Content. It launched right into Minerva's Den.
Yeah it is a bundle game, but I don't feel like paying $20 when I only want 1 game which costs $5. Normally its $10 but its 50% off right now.
Yeah but wasn't it in one of the pay what you want bundles?

I got lucky, a generous soul over at another forum where I do the Steam sales thread gave me a piece of coal. Crafted it and got Half Life 2 Episode 1. At least it wasn't a coupon so I'm happy even if I do have it :D
Yeah it is a bundle game, but I don't feel like paying $20 when I only want 1 game which costs $5. Normally its $10 but its 50% off right now.
Yeah lol it was in an Indie Royale bundle, only like $4 for 4-5 games.

I finished all the game achievements I am going to get. 65 achiements total and for my efforts I got:

Dota 2 (traded for JK Collection and Call of Ctuhlhu)
Orange Box (Traded for SS: The Random Encounter and SPAZ)
X Superbox (Still up for Trade)
HL Ep 1 (Still up for Trade)
a bunch of coupons
1 unredeemed coal left

Although I had no interest or owned all the games I won, I was able to trade them for some good games from my list. I personally think this has been my favorite sale event. The idea of winning games and not just insignificant dlc is way better than the summer sale.

Anyone who owns Grid, do you know if it works with the Logitech wheels? (The Driving Force GT to be exact). I searched on Google, and a lot of people were complaining about the wheels not working properly or at all with the game. However, most of the posts were from a few years ago, so I was wondering if it was fixed either through patches or a particular method since.
Yeah but wasn't it in one of the pay what you want bundles?
Sort of, but not really. I think there was a $2.99 minimum at the start of the bundle, and the price went up over time.

Got to 7 coal today on my second account. I was planning on crafting, but not if I now have a 90% chance of getting a valve coupon. I wish I knew the odds of getting a Valve complete pack or one of the HL2 episodes, which are the only Valve games that I'd like but don't own. Ah well, maybe I'll win that grand prize ;)
I have a 50% coupon for Gemini Rue you can have. If you're not looking to play it right away it might hit a daily and you could stack the coupon saving you some change.
If he doesn't take it, I would be extremely interested. I've really wanted to pick up Gemini Rue but had no idea it was being distributed on Steam.
Just crafted 28 coal, got 3 valve coupons and HL1. Oh boy!
Well at least we know now that they're still giving out games, and not just coupons and (now worthless) coal.
Man, everyone types out their coupons expecting that we WANT them.

And, of course, nobody wants coal for games any more
Everyo--Well I, know that you HATE coupons and coal. ;)

The daily sales were kind of disappointing for me (same or higher prices compared to the summer sale, M&M Clash of Heroes was only 50% off, etc), but the Gift Pile thing was kind of fun and yielded some stuff I actually wanted.

I kept Aliens vs Predator from the gift pile, plus got some coal and a few other minor games that I already had and traded them for Morrowind, EYE, and Greed Corp. No crafting ftw.
My two biggest disappointments this sale were no Witcher 2 for $15 or Morrowind for $5. Those were my two most wanted deals.
Probably more so because amazon had the witcher 2 for $16 last month.

My problem is it will not install, no matter what I do. I even went as far as to uninstall the GFWL clients & Bioshock 2 itself, then start from scratch. No matter if I try to d/l & install from within the game or from the client, after it downloads it gives me error code 8007000D & refuses to install. No idea what else I can do, and I'm really frustrated now.

Honestly, if I had known you had to go through GFWL to get the DLC, I probably would have bought the game from Amazon last week when they had it on sale, because I have a hunch running the game through Steam is what's messing up the DLC install. :whistle2:(

Mine was that Day of Defeat Source was never a daily.

I've got a cart full of cheap games right now. Are any of these completely awful to the point of not being worth $2.50 and 30-60 minutes of my time?

 • Gundemonium Collection
 • Cargo - The Quest for Gravity
 • Astro Tripper
 • Capsized
 • Dark Void
 • Dark Void Zero
 • Inside a Star Filled Sky
 • Gravitron 2
 • Dark Sector
 • Eversion
 • Beep
 • Alien Zombie Megadeath
 • Defy Gravity Extended

I had to run a registry cleaner to even get games for windows live to start up, but after that it managed to install and run.

I'm pretty sure Dark Void Zero has some DRM that people hate, but other than that I know nothing of any of those games.

So far made out pretty well with my crafting. I crafted twice and got world of goo and the Valve 2011 pack with every valve game.

Decent, not to the level of Farming Simulator 2011, but decent.

Out of curiosity, what OS are you running? I'm running Windows 7 64bit. Just trying to find some common denominator for what the problem might be.

Only Microsoft would make installing a game this problematic.
Wait, anyone know if BioShock 2 comes with Minerva's Den? I can't find it.
I remember seeing that as being exclusive to one service... GFWL?

^ this. i think it's currently on sale for $5, however. reading through the thread, looks like it might be a pain in the ass to get it running though.
