Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Actually, you might want to play Dead Space 2 on Origin instead of Steam, because EA stopped patching the Steam version.
This is good to know. I just got DS2 via Amazon recently, and now I'm glad I passed on the Steam version last time in this case.
Is Origin even good? I hadn't touched it at all but I might have to for some of these games...

Do I have to talk to human CS reps to activate my DS2 CD keys in Origin or can I just copy paste my Steam keys?
You can copy/paste your DS2 key into Origin to register, no need to contact Origin's CS. I think only games that were released before 2008 (or might be 2009, I forgot) require to be activated by a CS rep. I wouldn't call Origin "good", but you're gonna have to get used to it if you're going to be playing EA games in the future because some games will start to require Origin, so you might as well make best use of it. It's actually best to close Origin before you launch DS2 from it, there's a bug that causes the screen to go black when you change resolutions or alt-tab if you have Origin open while playing DS2.
I agree with everything here 100%. I beat it in my first night on the hardest difficulty, with no problem at all. But it was an amazing campaign, a more realistic twist to the modern FPS scene. This is what I had hoped Battlefield 3's campaign was going to be like.

Think of the Call of Duty campaigns as a Michael Bay directed game, and think of Medal of Honor as a Steven Spielberg directed game. Both are fun in their own ways.
The tone differences were great. In MoH, the soldiers all behaved like professionals. CoD's troops all feel kinda try-hard-ish. Ref MW2's STAY FROSTY OSCAR MIKE jokes, for instance.

Personally, I think the ease helped the game. When CoD gets hard, it's asshole hard rather than a solid challenge. I'm sure that genre has room for more gameplay variety and better challenge than what CoD has but, for now, MoH was just good fun.
I wouldn't mind having to buy games on Origin if I could then register them on Steam. I just prefer to have one hub for launching my games.
Can you buy on Origin and just create a non steam game link thingy on steam?
Can you buy on Origin and just create a non steam game link thingy on steam?
You can, but it's kind of tough for some games. For Battlefield 3, you have to actually launch Origin through steam, not the game itself.

My real complaint with origin is that it doesn't track your hours played of a game. Sure it's a useless stat, but I like to know how long I have played a game for.

Also I kinda feel Kingdoms of Amalur will be the same way with EA. They might stop supporting it for the Origin version because I am pretty sure Dragon Age II did the same thing.

Also tried to get my DS3 working with Motion Joy but no luck whatsoever. I can get Motion Joy to recognize it as a controller but it does nothing in any Steam game (the computer allows me to calibrate it and stuff but I can't use it on Steam games). I would really like to get that working for 360 controller emulation because I prefer that over the 360.

I hated the campaign because it never felt like I was doing something. I always complain about hand holding in games and this one was one of the worst and surprisingly even worse than Call of Duty's amount of hand holding. And honestly I can't stand that. It is just terrible now a days and annoying when it always says "follow" over someones head. For example with BF3, I was being talked to by my teammates who then said, lets go. The moment after that there was a giant "follow" sign over them. Really? Am I too fucking stupid to understand that I need to follow the people that were just talking to me and said to go? And I haven't played the single player of BF3 since... but that is because the game runs like poo on my machine.

It is kind of weird how little impact that has on a game, but makes me absolutely hate them for it. But then again I don't get the games for their campaign because apparently the people writing the story still hasn't learned that killing off people that you have known for 30ish minutes and by know I mean fought alongside while they say random things does not make me care about that character. The last time I somewhat cared about a character dieing in a modern shooter
was in Modern Warfare when I died by that nuke.
Now I can't remember if someone dies in Medal of Honor, but I cared so little about the story I can barely remember it at all and that I beat it roughly 5 months ago.

I assume you installed the driver for the dualshock 3? If so then what I do is just select the 360 button under Select One Mode and then below that click the pink Enable button. Works perfect for me. And to get the analog triggers to work best you go to the Options tab and under button threshold set L2 and R2 to 0, otherwise they basically work digitally.

Yeah I got it working fine now.

Tried some Sonic and Sega All Star Racing. That game is pretty good for $5. Although I am trying to figure out why the fuck they would put Big The Cat in the game. Just no...

I've literally never played a Genesis-era Sonic game (I've actually only played Adventure 2), but want to now at least try one since they're on the cheap. Which is the one to get if I only get one?

Are the Sonic games even worth it compared to emulators, barring the whole ethical hullaballoo vis a vis games I've probably bought six times in their various forms?

Ethics aside, yeah, buying it isn't worth it, but it's only 2.50...I've wasted much more money on much worse things.

I've never even bought a sonic game other than Adventure 2, nor played one, so it's not like I'm really re-buying a game like say...Super Mario Bros. again.
As much as I hate to admit it, I've bought 3 versions of the same Peggle game >_>

Plus, ethics.

Sonic 3 and Knuckles. It has Sonic, Tails and Knuckles as playable characters and really shows what Sonic has to offer.

i never really cared for sonic games. i played the ones on gba. all i did was press right and jump occaisionally. I also never cared for mario games. im more of a megaman and metroidvania guy when it comes to oldschool platformers

Even having played Sonic CD, I think the only Sonic games you need are Sonic 3 and Knuckles (Which is two games anyway) and Sonic Generations. Sonic 2 has some good levels though

Sonic 2 is equally as good as 3. Sonic 1 is worth playing too, it's just not as good as 2 and 3.

You know as well as I do that is BS. You hit down all the time to roll. You're just killing the complexity that is Sonic.
Haters gonna hate, lovers gonna love. ;)

I LOVE Sonic, so many memories, so much nostalgia. :)
Me too, Sonic 1-3&K are some of my favorite games. I haven't really played Sonic CD, I guess I need to get on that. Hell I hate to admit it, but I played Sonic The Hedgehog 2006 because I love sonic that much (Still need to try Unleashed some day though).

Also I realized that Sonic and Sega All Star Racing is nice because it's in HD. I mean I don't really care about graphics, but on the other hand I played every Mario Kart except for the first one so having a HD Mario Kart like Kart racing game is pretty sweet.
Thanks for the opinions. Think Ill get 3 for the time being, and if CD goes on sale, ill get that down the line
As a heads up, Sonic 2 is my favorite Sonic game so I recommend checking that out sometime as well, but the reason I recommend checking out Sonic 3 is because of Knuckles (not that Knuckles makes Sonic games better, but it's another playable character to try out), and it has a save system in case you find the game difficult at parts (well it saves the level you are at).

Sonic 3+K also has midbosses at each act 1 and world bosses at each act 2, and the boss structure of 3K is worlds better than the previous two games.

That said, Sonic 2 IS a solid product and has moments that are worth revisiting even if you've played 3K.

Again, though, 3K is about twice the length of S2 because it is two games combined. Hell, you beat 3 and then move right into the first level of Sonic and Knuckles.

The additional characters don't really change a lot but the save game/level select structure is damn nice. Note that you do get a different boss around Marble Gardens that revolves around Tails's flying, so the boss plays differently if you're Sonic+Tails or just Tails, and differently still if you're Knuckles or Sonic alone. Also, the extra final boss can only be fought by Sonic if you clear the game with all 7 chaos emeralds. I think there's master emeralds or something too but it won't be so hard that you can't do it between two whole games worth of levels.

If true, hooray for me on never buying a Serious Sam game

Hax.

That's not a bad deal. If you have those, you can wait on SS3:BFE until it hits the much more reasonable indie price of $5.

This also doesn't surprise considering how SS3:BFE's sales blurb was mostly INDIE INDIE INDIE INDIE INDIE INDIE INDIE INDIE INDIE INDIE INDIE INDIE INDIE INDIE INDIE INDIE INDIE INDIE INDIE INDIE INDIE INDIE INDIE INDIE INDIE INDIE INDIE INDIE INDIE INDIE INDIE

If it has the HD packs then it's a good deal. If it's just the first two classic games, then it's not worth the price unless you want Double D or The Random Encounter. Those HD packs go on sale like every big sale for like $2-5 for both.

Also Serious Sam is indie? I never thought of them as indie seeing their games were on the PS2, x-box and Gamecube.
Supposedly, it's both HD and originals.
I'm not so sure of that, I know that the article states that the HD versions are in it, but if you look at the actual pic, they aren't. Seems like it's only the classic versions (non-HD), unless I'm missing something.

Pretty crappy bundle if it turns out to be true though, Serious Sam Gold has been $4 during various steam sales, Double D was free with the littlebigbunch bundle, and The Random Encounter was $1.24 during the holiday sale.. Not really saving much by purchasing the bundle, and even worse if it doesn't come with the HD versions.

I think I was the only one, but I thought Unleashed was a lot of fun. The day levels weren't that different from the 3D levels in Generations and for the most part I enjoyed the night beat em up levels as well. Definitely some flaws, and Colors and Generations are way better, but at least on PS3 I had fun with Unleashed before either of those two existed.

Daily Deal is the Binding of Isaac for 50% off at $2.49.

Many of us will have it already from the Humble Bundle, if I'm recalling my past purchases correctly.

It was also 1.25 at the holiday sale.

Good game though.

Cool, thanks.

Now I just have to wait for the demo that they can confirm is unconfirmed, but if there was one it would be from the newest build of the game.
(something like that)

Since I see no proper thread for this:
I have a 33% off Skyrim coupon, WTT for both Portals or Portal 2 + no biggie, up to talk :)

Thanks and waiting for those PMs!
Thanks! going ASAP
Though in my defense, I'll accept that I overlooked that thread because it has "trade" nowhere seen around it. My intention wasn't to do a group buy  anyway! thanks again.
The title for that thread is rather confusing. I'd say that group buys and gift requests take up about 40% of that thread, if that.

Yeah, I think I got redirected there too, and the Christmas madness was enough for me to completely forget about it.
Ehem, ON TOPIC post maybe? I'd rather not have any more quotes on this :)
Sonic 2 Game Gear was a fucking bitch! I never beat it and never could beat the part where run down a cliff and hang glide.
That is the only part I remember from the game. Nothing fun, just that bloody cliff jump. If it were my game gear and not a friend's, it probably would have ended up smashed.
