Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Steel Storm was in an indie bundle although I can't remember which one.

I played it for about 5 hours and I've come to the conclusion that I can't recommend it.

Humble bundle 3 I believe it was a bonus for paying over average

I have a 50% off coupon for Steel Storm if anyone wants it. Makes the deal $1.24. Just PM me on CAG w/ your Steam ID.
Is From Dust only an objective based game, or is there some type of free play (that doesn't get old)?
Once you complete the game you get a sandbox to use the powers in to do whatever you want. Does it get old? I guess that would depend on how much you enjoy the gameplay. I liked the game, but only put about 5-10 minutes in that final area before ending and I haven't been back.
Meh, I want FEAR 3, but $20 is $5 too high IMO.
I have a 25% off a Warner Bros game coupon which is valid for FEAR 3, which could knock $5 off the price. I'm willing to trade for any reasonable offers for other coupons you might not want, or any other steam tradables.
Do the coupons from the holiday sale stack? I have a 50% off SPAZ coupon if anyone is interested.
They do stack with sales, yes.
Fear 3 was around $6 on GMG last time.
Damn, I missed an epic deal. Would have bought it in a heartbeat.

@Thoth, I think I'll just wait for another sale on it. Now that I know it has been much cheaper before, I can wait lol. :S

On Space Pirates And Zombies, I picked it up in the winter sale and I quite enjoy it. I remember playing a game called Star Control when I was a kid and SPAZ seems very keen to evoke those memories.

The bulk of the game is spent carrying out missions (i.e. quests) which will reward currency and/or reputation with each system's faction. Speaking of which, each system has two sides: UTA (think Galactic Empire/Union of Allied Planets) and Civilians (Rebel Alliance/Browncoats). You don't always have to butter up one or the other, and which side you'll have to piss off will vary from system to system. It's very much up to you how and where you want to go questing, but the levelling process can feel a bit grindy.

The combat is fun but not overly deep, and things can get a bit repetitive (I tend to play the game in short bursts as a result). But I like the idea of gradually improving my fleet and choosing which ships to have and so on, for some reason any game where I get to "collect" stuff seems right up my alley :)

There is a central plotline, it's pretty much the only plotline (occasional side-quests notwithstanding) and I've just got into the Z of SPAZ. At this point, everything got markedly harder and my times of zerging everything in sight seem to have stopped. The Zombies (think... REAVERS!) definitely add another dimension and I'm having to re-think battles/quests quite a bit.

I've put 20 hours into it so far and I've only really just got into the meat of the campaign I think. At this price, I'd say it's worth it. I wouldn't be disappointed to buy it at 50% off so anything else is a bonus.

p.s. If you're on the fence, TRY THE DEMO. You get a pretty good idea from that whether or not SPAZ is for you. It won't butter everybody's crumpet.

I also downloaded the version for Android and tried to login in. Got the same message, but at least they've got a mobile app now. I know you could do most of those things with unofficial apps and/or web browser but it's still nice to have an official app.

It's not as exciting as say the Onlive app that lets you play games, but it's a start.

BTW the link for both versions is http://store.steampowered.com/mobile

I got the same thing. :( I hope this app makes it easier to track games on sale which you've marked in your wishlist, as well as sales in general.

I don't recommend FEAR 3 for any more than $10 and even that's stretching it. I've played the FEAR 1 and 2 in the order they were released, and FEAR 3 is definitely the weakest of the series for me. My expectations were not that high either since I had read reviews on it, which is what caused me to wait until it was on sale for as cheap as it was at GMG. The scares in FEAR 3 feel so forced that they're not scary at all. In fact, as I went on, the game actually got less and less scary until it felt like they basically tried to create a CoD/BF/MoH clone and shoe horned a sci fi story into it.

The graphics are well done, with some really nice attention to little details here and there as you move through the various areas that the game takes you through. I guess the game play isn't bad either, since it's refined from the first game with a cover system added. It all just felt so generic to me though. I didn't feel like I was playing a FEAR game like I did when I played the first and even the second. Something about FEAR 3 just isn't right for me. I managed to complete the game with the Point Man and then uninstalled it. While Fettel could be enjoyable to play, I wasn't interested in going back and re-playing the game as him since he wasn't that different from the Point Man in the grand scheme of game play. Do note, this is all from the single player perspective. I imagine the game might be a little more enjoyable as a co-op effort, but I wouldn't know. Unless you REALLY want to play another FPS game, I'd wait until FEAR 3 is nice and dirt cheap.

I really liked FEAR3. A lot. It just felt right and like a worthy sequel to FEAR1, more than FEAR2 was. Of course, it's short as hell and geared toward co-op so even the haunted house bits are briskly paced but I thought the shooting was quite fun even alone. If you can get a buddy to go along, it will be a hugely entertaining ride.

That said, it probably should be less than $20 by now. There've been plenty of opportunities to have it for that price and, as I said, it's REALLY short. As in literally 5 hours, no exaggeration, no rush, no easy mode, still playing for fun. I went back and replayed it at least twice with co-op and my co-op buddy and I still dash out a level or two here and there every so often.

Picked up SPAZ on sale for $3.99. Also downloaded the steam app to my iPhone and tried signing in, said it'l put me into consideration for the beta or something.

Oh and just got invited to Dota 2 about an hour ago, bout time.

It's funny that you should mention Star Control, as the developers of SPAZ (their whole army of two men) loved that game and used some ideas from that game towards SPAZ. One of the developer wrote a fairly detailed story (over at the Steam's forums) about how they got started with MinMax and SPAZ. Quite an inspirational read for anyone, especially those aspiring indie developers.

Overall, though, I do agree with everything you said. It's a fairly straight-forward game. Definitely nothing too deep, so the learning curve is quite easy to get a grip on. Granted, though, the game does feel grindy as you're trying to get the biggest guns and baddest armor, so you have to hunt around for the parts. But, overall, definitely worth it at the sale price, assuming you're into sci-fi space action stuff.

It's only part of a closed beta for now, so unless you're invited/authorized for it, it won't be available on your account. Still, great to see them adding this feature.

One peculiar thing I noticed though when looking over the webpage for it though...did anyone else see this intriguing screenshot from the mobile app page on the steampowered.com site?

Indication of a future deal, or just an example mockup?

That would be awesome if that's a future deal.

I'd love RAGE to be $9.99. How does it compare to Borderlands? I love Borderlands GOTY so much; I know there are flaws but I don't think it brings the game down much for me. I love the way it leans toward Diablo II with the mission-kill-loot gameplay. I haven't even touched the DLC and I'm 40+ hours in the main campaign just completing missions, leveling up, getting better gear, etc. To me it's the equivalent of the most delicous double bacon cheeseburger ever. You may not look at the individual ingredients with awe but put them together and I'd argue it's better than steak, seriously.

Uh, what was my original question? ;) Damn, I'm going to have to play Borderlands again tonight...

I hope RAGE goes on sale for $10 soon. Then I can use that 50% off coupon I have to bring that sucker down to $5. Thus making use of my sole good coupon.

Other than the overall theme it's really not much like Borderlands. The wasteland is kind of a hub for linear corridor levels that open up as the story unfolds. It's not the sort of game where you'd get much out of wandering around.

If the idea of a standard straight corridor id shooter with a Borderlands-ish theme and very mild character progression sounds good to you, then you'll have a ball. Note that RAGE does more with the driving aspect than Borderlands - it's mostly optional but more fully fleshed.

Played a ton of SPAZ after I picked it up during the holiday sale and have enjoyed it alot.
Do try the demo if you think it might interest you.

someone traded me Plants vs Zombies goty for a fear 3 coupon yesterday and Ive already played 5 hours of it. I cant believe how fun and addicting this game is.

If my play time is any indication (75 hours) then you're in this thing for the long haul. Great game.

Thank you so much for your thoughts on Rage. I'll have to think about it more then. Borderlands scratched some kind of latent itch I've had for FPS action; before I got it last year I was largely motion sick and not interested in such games, but I muscled through the dizziness and headaches and a couple of hours later I was hooked on Borderlands' game design.
